>> i like that, get your love on. is that what we're talking about. good morning. it's almost 4:31. >> lots to get to this morning. let's check that forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning. happy valentine's day to you. we are cold out there this morning, temperatures very close to the freezing mark. especially in the north bay. we'll continue to drop off over the next two hours. good snuggling weather whether it be your man, your wife, maybe your dog in my case. let's find out how the roads are shaping up. hopefully there are some lover's lanes open. >> you know what, pretty much you can make your own lover lane around the bay area. most people are in bed. that's why we're saying that. no judgments. embarcadero, the off ramp, northbound 101, that's construction going on. so, we will have a little bit of an issue for the off ramp. the rest of the peninsula is moving smoothly.

look at the bottom of the screen. northbound 101, slowing right around highway 85. no incidents reported so i'll check that out, follow it up in a few. back to you. >> thank you very much. prominent nightclub owner in the south bay is denying charges he raped a woman at his family home. ray owns the nightclubs. investigators say a woman says she was attacked january 8 while staying in the guest room of his home. his attorney says his client is innocent. he will be in court on thursday. >> the oakland teenl accused of killing his adopted parents will be back in court where he is expected to enter a plea. prosecutors say 15-year-old moses cayman strangled the two. the teen facing two counts of murder. police believe the attack was the result of tension over the

boy's suspension from school. >> a university driver accused of causing a deadly crash. 64-year-old wallace richardson being arraigned on misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges today. police say a shuttle bus driver for uc san francisco ran a red light and collided with a tractor-trailer. the accident killed dr. kevin mack and injured four others. ucsf has since installed seat belts in shuttles. >> police are on the hunt for two armed men who opened fire at a nail salon. it happened last night east of highway 80. witnesses say two men entered tina's nails and shot a female customer three times. a friend of the wounded woman returned fire which led to four more people being shot including a toddler. detectives are trying to figure out the motive. >> at this point we don't have a

motive. detectives are out here and working on this and trying to piece that together. we've got witnesses we're talking to. >> gun fire left stores with bullet holes and a car across the street from the salon. >> the search is expected to resume for more human remains in what appears to be a massive grave in san joaquin county. the search has unearthed hundreds of bone fragments and what could be the bodies of two missing women missing since the 80s. cheryl hurd has the latest. >> reporter: while authorities search for more human remains in a well on an abandoned cattle farm, leonard spends his time searching. >> see what i'm going to be needing on this tomorrow. >> reporter: padilla is the reason authorities are digging for more human remains, what appears to be a mass grave. human bones, clothes, a purse,

and jewelry were found here on sunday. they were discovered after padilla received a map from wesley shermantine, one of two convicted killers known as the killers. it's labeled herzog's bone yard. >> this is going to be a lot of bodies. they used to talk five or six. i think it's above 30. >> reporter: authorities believe they identified the remains of two women who went missing in the 80s and 90s. shermantine's partner in crime, lorn herzog, committed suicide. this flyer sent to a local reporter hinting herzog had something to do with the disappearance of michaela garecht 20 years ago have many wondering. her mother refuses to believe that it does. >> i don't consider this to be

hopeful. this would be a lead that would not lead us to michaela, it would lead us to michaela's remains. that is not what i'm hoping for. >> reporter: padilla wants families to find closure. >> we can't go out and solicit investigations but if they contact me we can put effort into. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. >> a south bay city about to make things a lot tougher for smokers. mountain view city council taking a final vote tonight to expand the city's smoking ordinance. the rules would ban smoking in outdoor dining areas and create a 25-foot buffer zone around doorways and windows. it's expected to be approved and take effect in 90 days. >> another step forward for the new 49ers stadium. the council will set a time line for the completion of the project. the nfl agreed to pitch in the final $200 million needed to fund the niners new field. stadium officials have finalized

the deal with a major construction company to start work come this spring. the city is saying the stadium will open in 2014, a year earlier than planned. >> i want to check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> good morning to you. happy valentine's day everybody. we do have some cold weather this morning, something we haven't had to deal with for some time so make sure you're ready. in the north bay temperatures are very close to that freezing mark. you're at 33 in napa, 38 in fairfield. mid-40s down in the south bay. and the mid-50s in some portions of the peninsula. so this morning the micro climates kicking in. you'll likely find frost in the interior valley. but lovely weather later on today with the mix of sun and clouds and maybe a few on and off showers as we meet back here tomorrow morning. we'll take you through the seven-day forecast. we've got another round of rain in the works for the weekend. and we'll sort all of that out for you first, we'll check your

drive. from yesterday's showers, puddling pondsment how does it look? >> the roads are drying out but they won't be dry until the sun come up and has a chance to do so. more cars on the road will help. slick conditions in spots. the construction 101 continues but the bottom of the screen, we saw slowing, you saw it yourself. that has cleared up over the last five minutes. good news because there are no incidents through mountain view and palo alto for 101 or 85. looking at the rest of the south bay with nice flow northbound. a little blip here and there. that typically shows up as more start to hit the road through the area and heading down to the summit. hamilton, that summit is closed because of snow yesterday. a few inches there. i don't know what the situation is now as far as the snow but the road is still closed. they do that any time there is a dusting up there. they don't want anybody to get stuck. a live shot outside and see how things are across the golden gate bridge. a sign moving folks to the left indicating the crews are still

at the north side of the bridge for construction. other than that not a problem, very light volume of traffic. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. he left his heart in san francisco and today he's coming back to reclaim it. singing legend tony bennett will be in san francisco today, holding a benefit concert at the fairmont hotel. the concert will celebrate the anniversary of the debut of his song "i left my heart in san francisco." bennett first performed that song at the fairmont in 1961. the song was so well received he released it on record in 1962. then went on to receive a grammy for record of the year. the concert will benefit the ucf department of cardiology. >> see how you bring it together. >> he's still got the magic. >> a different tradition. >> that is right. the great valentine day pillow fight will be held.

hundreds of people expected to turn oud for the feather flinging fun. that video is from last year. this marks the seventh year san francisco hosted this fight. it's expected to last for at least three hours. that's a lot of down flying. organizers say all you need is a good fresh pillow. none of the dirty ones. make sure it's very soft. the memory foam pillows can be good for your neck and spine but they hurt when they hit you in the face. the swinging and the love flies at 6:00. >> the department of public works has to sweep up all of those feathers. still ahead, remembering whitney houston. the producer who helped the pop icon rise to star dumb talks about her legacy. >> troubles have taken a toll on most americans but one group hit hard. the effect it's having on young adults still ahead. >> good news keeps on coming for apple. a check of the company's

i guess nothing says romance like the port of oakland out there with all of the lights shimmering in the water, spectacular shot. it is valentine's day. christina loren will be along to tell you where you might want to go and catch the best weather. >> a funeral for whitney houston is expected to be held later this week in her home state of new jersey. a private jet believed to be carrying her body landed last night. the hearst was seen a short time later. houston died saturday at a hotel room in beverly hills. she was 48 years old. part of the reason whitney houston rose to stardom was because of talented people here in the bay area. record producer michael walden said he knew that soulful voice had star power the minute he heard it. walden produced seven number one hits with whitney houston at his studio in san rafael. he has another song he recorded with her that has yet to be

released. he says the singer was all heart. >> whitney is a heart person. a lioness and very warm and generous in spirit and wanted to say hi to everybody and be around the real people and keep it real. >> shannon rubicon also worked with houston. she wrote her hit "how will i know" and "a boy meets girl." they created it for janet jackson but she passed. it was one of houston's first hits in 1985. >> china's vice president in washington today to meet with president obama. he arrived in the u.s. yesterday and will meet with the president and the vice president joe biden at the white house. the talks expected to cover a broad range of bi lateral, regional and global issues. the chinese vice president on track to become the country's president next year. >> a big week for apple.

the company stock hit a milestone yesterday. for more on that and a check of the markets we turn to jackie deang deangelis. good morning. >> good morning. i'm going to start with yesterday. we saw the dow jumping 73 points to 12,874, the nasdaq rose 27 to 2931, that was an 11-year high. and the s&p 500 closed up 9 at 1351. the futures are higher after a strong italian bond auction, the headline from europe continue to drive the market. moody's rating agency downgrade last night six european nations and cut the outlook on the uk but doesn't seem to impact the markets. asia was mixed. europe is higher this morning. we're going to get data on small business sentiment, retail sales, import prices and business inventories. look for those. the good news keeps on coming in for apple. shares closed monday above $500 for the first time and "the wall street journal" is reporting that verizon and at&t are going to sell the next generation of ipads that are going to run on 4g wireless networks.

it's rumored the ipad 3 will be announced in march. apple is the largest company in the u.s. with a market cap of $468 billion. over to you. >> thank you, jackie. >> congress starts mulling over president obama's proposed budget for 2013. the budget was delivered yesterday and calls for tax increases on millionaires and additional trillion dollars in spending. today the hearings begin, the treasury secretary appears before the senate finance committee while the defense secretary goes before the senate armed services committee. >> the economy is taking its toll on young adults that according to a new survey. only 54% of adults between the ages of 18 and 24 actually have a job. that is the lowest number since the government began collecting data back in 1948. nearly a third of young adults say they postponed getting married or having a baby because of this tough economy. and one in four adults has moved back in with their parents. the age group that has weathered

the financial storm the best -- how about adults over 65. >> let's get a look at the forecast for this valentine's day. here is meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you guys. happy valentine's day. love is in the air out there. and that's about it. a little fog, a little frost. otherwise we're dry this morning. 39 degrees in concord, 38 in fairfield. it's cold out there. but we do have the mid-50s in san francisco and you're at 50 degrees in san mateo. certainly cold enough to warrant a jacket just about anywhere you're waking up with us. for tuesday, happy valentine's day to everybody out there. we're going to see pretty comfortable conditions today. 48 degrees, mostly cloudy conditions inland 8:00 a.m. 57 degrees, then 8:00 p.m. staying nice and dry. a mix of clouds out there. 53 degrees. so comfortable conditions. you need that jacket basically all day long. but you don't need that umbrella. we do have more showers moving in as we wake up and meet back here tomorrow morning.

these are the highs today. 57 degrees in san jose, about 59 in walnut creek. 61 in fairfield. and 58 degrees in san francisco. basically, right on track with our seasonal averages for this time of year. so, we are getting a full week's worth of winter weather. wednesday, showers in the morning, we'll get a good amount of clearing late thursday into friday. we're going to see this on and off spotty shower situation all the way through late thursday, then saturday into sunday we get another round of showers which could interrupt construction on the bay bridge. word is we'll find out whether or not that is the case tomorrow. back to you guys. >> thank you very much, christina. if you are looking for love this valentine's day you might want to skip those online dating sites. a new poll shows only one in five people found romance when looking for a match online. not surprising the other 80% of profiles on the sites were not entirely truthful. >> what? no.

>> if you are still with us this morning after hearing those screeching emergency alerts, look at this. all lit up. gorgeous. 4:54. >> the city of berkeley working to find a kinder, gentler way to hand out parking tickets. isn't that nice. during tonight's meeting the city council will consider a plan to alter parking tiblth rules. the rules would ban officers from writing tickets when the drivers of the cars are present. i like that. i've gotten nail add few times standing there watching driver who show up to move their cars would get a break. >> we have a road closure to tell you about. starting today the city will close coliseum way between julian way and independent road to remove tracks. drivers have to use san leandro or 880 to get around. the road will be closed for two weeks until the 28th.

weather could delay some of the construction which means the closure could be longer. >> see if mother nature agrees. 4:54. let's check in with mike inouye to find out what's happening on the roads. >> talking about the area right past the coliseum so let's get a live look. that's in the shot off of 880. right by those giant billboards. use san leandro. prepare for that for the next couple of weeks. no construction closing the high street ramp. that is open where you see the red lights off of the freeway. continuing north through oakland, a smooth drive for 880. the map shows you that as well as 580, highway 13 and the rest of the approaches to the bay bridge from the east bay. on the bridge from the city we have slowing there. as you get on to the skyway, no incidents reported but there is construction on the lower deck as you get closer to the oakland side. maybe crews moving around. also a new accident, eighth and harrison that should be affecting you as you get toward the freeway. city streets are open.
