i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. a lot to get to. let's check that forecast. >> good morning. you want to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely. this morning although the doppler radar shows you we are nice and dry at this point, at least on the radar. your roads however are slick. give yourself plenty of extra time. puddles, ponding overnight and as we head throughout the day today we don't have to worry about that rain any locker but fog will be a factor. we'll talk you through the forecast and tell you when the rain returns. first let's check your drive. a lot of people have a chocolate hangover this morning, i'm sure. >> that's okay. you cure that with more chocolate nor breakfast. crews were working overnight on the bay bribdge. we see slowing on the bridge itself. chp says it might be gusty.

had an earlier wind advisory by chp. they cleared the advisory but we still see the camera shaking but a good note for folks especially over the high-rise here. some are calling this a big-time slap in the face for victim the san wbruno explosion. >> pg&e is capping the amount it will pay for reconstruction. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live in san bruno where pg&e setting a $70 million limit. >> reporter: good morning. the neighborhood is coming back together. there are signs of construction everywhere you look after the deadly explosion in 2010. but now comes word that pg&e may actually cap the amount that it is willing to fund to help pay for all of this construction here in san bruno. we are expected to learn more today at a press conference

being held by san bruno's mayor but this is signaling a real break doub in negle breakdown in negotiations after the pipeline explosion in 2010 that destroyed dozens of homes and damaged countless others and killed eight people. the largest natural gas disaster in united states history. we're told that the utility is setting a $70 million limit on its trust fund to rebuild. right now that's funded to about $12 million. but the mayor is looking at other options and calling a press conference believing that pg&e is now not acting in good faith in their anegotiations. the mayor is expected to speak on it at 1:00 a.m. this morning. that's where the press conference will be, at city hall. live in san bruno, i'm christie smith. 4:33 right now. investigators have now identified bones belonging to at least two missing women. found in a mass grave near stockton in san joaquin county.

so far searchers have uncovered more than a thousand bone fragments at the site. investigators say some of the remains belong to a 16-year-old chevy wheeler who disappeared in 1985. last week crews uncovered the skull of a 25-year-old woman who had been missing since 1998. the bounty hunter working on the case says there could be as many as 30 pod dbodies buried in tha area. we're learning mott abo ining m deal that led the death row inmate to reveal the site. the bounty hunter made a deal for $18,000. sherman asked for an additional $15,000 to pay for headstones for his grave and spending money for the prison commissary. the state department of corrections has not commented on

the deal. no secret it is election year and president obama is back out on the west coast. mr. obama arrives in los angeles this morning for a california campaign tour that includes a fund-raising dinner tonight in beverly hills. his campaign says the foo fighters fresh off winning five grammys on sunday night will perform at that fund-raiser. this would be the ninth visit the president has made to l.a. since winning office in 2008. after visiting l.a., president obama heads up this way continuing his campaign tomorrow heading north to the bay area. the president will hold an event at the knob hill masonic center on thursday. some of the students have real concerns this year. >> i hope he says he will fix our education system out here in california. education system out here is

kind of screwed up, it's broke. >> tickets for obama victory fund 2012 event will range from $100 to $10,000. two executives of an sfo shuttle bus company will appear in court today accused of making illegal contributions to ed lee's mayoral campaign. the two executives allegedly urged employees to contribute $500 each to lee's campaign fund, then reimbursed them with company funds. california law prohibits corporations from contributing to city campaigns. according to court documents, lee's campaign returned those fund after their legitimacy came into question. a saratoga businessman

facing four years in county jail for a hit and run case involving a cyclist. the jury convicted the man of the felony hit and run. members of a santa clara county jury found him guilty of hitting the cyclist on a bike pass in 2009 and then he just drove off. during the trial nelson testified the collision permanently injured her left side and caused memory lapses and double vision. nelson and her husband cried when the verdict was announced. antioch city leaders are calling for community action in the wake of several recent shootings. two of them fatal. the latest one happened monday night when a homeowner shot and killed an intruder who had broken into his house. it was the sixth shooting in antioch in three days. according to the contra costa times, the mayor of antioch is calling for a town hall meeting to discuss the recent violence with residents and find ways to combat the problem. the meeting is expected to be held some time next week. the new mayor of fremont calls it unacceptable. two fremont police officers

arrested for dui. california highway patrol says both incidents happened a week apart from each other. paul singleton was arrested after being clocked going 78 miles an hour in a pick-up truck on 680 on february 3rd. singleton was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test. then this past weekend the chp arrested 36-year-old william johnson on 580 in livermore after he was seen speeding and weaving in the right lane. >> in the episode of drunken driving it is unacceptable by anybody. it is even more unacceptable when it is our police officers who enforce the law. >> both dui cases have been forwarded to the alameda county district attorney's office for review. 4:38 right now. back over to the nbc bay area weather center with meteorologist christina loren there to tell us about the day ahead and maybe some rain in the forecast. >> for the most part we're starting to dry out. a weak disturbance passed through the bay area overnight. at this point the radar shows you a very dry picture. the showers now racing into the

state, with the world. this is their time now for their farewell. >> houston's exact cause of death will not be released for weeks until toxicology results are complete. prescription medication was confiscated from houston's room at the beverly hilton on saturday when she was found unconscious and under water in a bathtub. the highly debated payroll tax cut may be extended through 2012. after all, the republican leaders in the house of representatives have tentatively agreed to a deal that would allow the cost of the tax cut to be added to the debt. extending the payroll tax cut would keep $40 in each paycheck for some 160 million americans. >> at the end of the day the more americans can keep in their own pocket is good. >> it presents a 20% cut in payments to medicare doctors.

we could see a vote on this by the end of the week. 4:45. it is time to get a check on those markets. for that and more we go live to cnbc world headquarters. >> reporter: stocks finished flat on tuesday, the dow closed at 4,878. the s&p was down a point to 1350. futures are higher this morning as the market continues to monitor headlines out of europe. today investors are going to wait also the release of the latest fed minutes at 2:00 pvm to see what federal reserve members had to say about quantitative easing. some are convinced the fed are carry out more easing which some believe has provided a leg of support for the european rally. zynga reported a profit yesterday of $37.2 million. the online gamemaker responsible for the possible facebook game farmville reported revenue totaling $311.2 million.

zynga's fourth quarter revenue saw an increase of 59% year on year. it is only a 1.4% gain from the prior quarter. the company beat analyst expectations but investors move cautiously after that announcement. wall street strategists are considering tossing apple out of of the u.s. earnings equation. results are striking when they do. for all the companies in the standard & poor's stock index, once apple's earnings are factored out of that, the gain shrivels to just 2.8% according to ubs investment bank. that's it from cnbc. back to you. mild weather in december helps air travelers arrive to their destinations on time. more than 84% of flights arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled time in december and less than 1% of those flights were canceled. that is the best performance on record since the d. 06o.t. star

tracking data. 2012 starting on a very mild note and today it seems like it's pretty chill out there, too. >> quite the contrary to that prediction. right? we don't have anything major to talk about. no major disturbances. in the overall pattern it is going to be cool, cloudy and temperatures running on par with our seasonal averages. finally we are getting a taste of winter this morning. we had some showers roll through. at this point they're in the central valley racing off into fresno but for us we're getting a nice, dry break and that will continue to be the case as we head throughout the morning hours. we could see some of the thick fog develop. the thick fog that generates the mist or drizzle. but we're not seeing that at this point. temperatures running on the mild side with all the cloud cover overhead. 53 in san francisco. into the bay area, few clouds overhead today making way to sunny conditions later on,

staying nice and mild and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s at the coast and, hey, look at this -- mid 60s inland. 65 in san jose and 65 in walnut creek. 58 in san francisco with a fair amount of cloud cover over the city throughout the day today. we could see flight delays out of sfo, although right now everything is running on time. tomorrow we'll get more drizzle, then showers move back in as we head into this weekend. we'll talk more about that coming up. right now back to you guys. 4:49 right now. it is official. construction on the new 49ers stadium in santa clara will begin by july. the santa clara stadium authority approved the contract last night. it requires the company to begin stadium construction by july 1st and finish the preseason kickoff in 2014. the mayor says the stadium authority also plans to approve a contract with the consultant who will oversee that $1 billion project. here we go again. out on the east coast and of course right here in the bay

welcome back, everyone, and a good wednesday morning to you. live look outside, clear look over san francisco this morning. flag blowing in the wind. we'll have a look at the full forecast coming up. 4:54 right now. no tsunami warning on this one but a lot of rattled nerves following a 6.0 earthquake. this one shook the coast of oregon but it was felt as far south as right here in the bay area. the quake struck around 7:30 last night 160 miles west of kuz bay. those who felt the shake described it as a weak jolt. federal agents in san francisco say they made a major drug bust on board a cruise ship docked at pier 35. an estimated $950,000 worth of cocaine was found on board the carnival cruise ship aurora. back on january 25th, it all happened during a routine inspection by custom agents. the drugs were found in two separate rooms on board the ship. one room registered to an
