5:32 am
the richmond/san rafael bridge. he said he had four people on board and that a person in another boat, the one he collided with, he believed had jumped in the water. now, earlier this evening emergency crews have been out here searching by boat, by air, they shot flares up in the sky so to try and light up the water. but they haven't seen any sign of him or any of the boats. again, they are saying when they get calls like this they are obligated to search. the one thing they say that is working in their favor is that conditions are rather mild. that's the latest from here. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> 5:32 now. occupy protesters have a new target outside the east gate of san quentin prison from noon until 3:00. occupy san quentin demonstration part after national day in support of inmates, because of today's protest, san quentin village's main street will be closed to traffic and no parking along side east sir francis

5:34 am
over several times here this morning. that person, an adult male is all we know about that person, has died. right now the fire department is trying to remove his body. the trick is to secure the vehicle so nothing else happens. this happened a little before 5:00 this morning, maybe around 4:45, this van had 7 people inside. coming off the northbound 101 off ramp. chp tells tus driver was going too fast. it was probably a combination of the wet roads and the speed that caused this vehicle to come off the road, flip over several times. at least two to three, possibly four people were ejected. you've got the one person who died and then two to three other people who have since been taken to the hospital. that leaves about two or three other people who survived the wreck who are still here on the scene. you have an accident in which one person died, two to three people ejected taken to the
5:35 am
hospital, and two to three more people are perfectly okay physically. because they weren't hurt in this accident. as a result the traffic on the northbound -- from northbound 101 on eastbound capitol expressway is shut down. because this is a holiday, there doesn't seem to be much effect on traffic on northbound 101. there's not many out there on the road right now. again, you have seven people in a car here who are affected by this horrible awful accident that police believe was the result of going too fast on wet roads. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> i can't imagine the family members seeing that. thank you, bob. >> a tragic scene. it is a holiday today, also wet roads. a deadly accident going on in the south bay. mike inouye has that. >> that's right. as bob described the scene, that's horrific, for any morning but we do have the traffic impact as well. bob is covering the folks affected so i want to make sure folks know about the traffic
5:36 am
flowing for northbound 101, as bob mentioned you cannot get off at the capitol off ramp or get on at capitol. both are closed because of the accident-related actixt you saw all of the vehicles. we're there as well providing more distraction. but we want to make sure you know about that. tully road is to the north. yorba buena to the south. use both of those as on or off ramp alternates for the south bay. around the rest of the bay, a smooth drive though wet conditions as well through sunol, 880 and here at livermore. might have a little issue for 580 but not as far as the slowing. an easy drive because it's presidents day, holiday, for a lot of folks you won't see as much surface street traffic. meteorologist christina loren, you say that the rain is calming down now. not so much of a factor but what are you seeing? >> no longer active at this point. we did have quite a bit of
