21st, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning everyone. it was just before 4:31. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. we have a lot to get to but first we'll check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> good morning. let's start with the good news, shall we. we're going to see a gorgeous day today with temperatures in the 70s, making it comfortable for any sort of outdoor activities even if that just means getting to your car later this afternoon. it's a little cold right now but we're talking upper 60s and 70s just about everywhere. i'll take you through the forecast first, mike already has an area that could slow you down this morning. >> it's at least stopped somebody on the bridge here. we're looking at san mateo bridge and highway 92 eastbound as you come over from the peninsula onto 880, has a little issue reported by chp. a disabled vehicle approaching the toll plaza area. a live look, our camera has been

shaky, as far as the signal. there it is. on the left you see that truck stopped and looks like a tow truck arrived. light traffic keeps things moving across 92. back to you. >> mike, thanks. you may already be feeling the pain at the pump. gas prices are rising. we're now seeing more than $4 a gallon. christie smith is live in oakland with why we won't see relief any time soon. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. you were talking about $4 a gallon. i think we found a deal for you in oakland. $3.93 a gallon at this 76 station. but it is rare, gas is creeping right back up. experts say there are a number of reasons for it but the few people we've spoken with this morning don't like it. and they are doing gas station hopping to try and get the best deal for their cars. at the shell station on hagenberger it was $4.05.

experts say it's a number of things. tension in the middle east, the improving economy is driving fuel demand, the supply is pinched and refineries are putting out less preparing to make california's special summer blend of gas. >> they are going too high and try to get it where it's cheaper than oakland. >> reporter: according to aaa bay area gas prices are as follows. oakland, $4.03. for a gallon of regular unleaded. san francisco, $4.08. in san jose, $4.03 and uc-berkeley's energy institute they say they expect prices to continue rising but they don't expect them to hit 5 bucks a gallon. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> a new twist to a search. a convicted serial killer describing the location of a third burial site.

wesley shermantine have been leading investigators. more than 1,000 bones were recovered last week from a well he identified. investigators were in the process of searching for a second well when shermantine revealed sunday there is a third site where he claims herzog buried another body. no word on when or if investigators will be looking for it. >> a southern california teacher facing dozens of counts of lewd behavior with students will be arraigned today. mark berts was arrested after hundreds of pictures surfaced of his students. the children were blindfolded and gagged. he taught at the school more than 30 years. he is being held on $23 million bail. in the wake of the scandal the entire staff of the school was replaced to try to reassure parents. >> police in south san francisco are asking for help to find a man who robbed a woman of more than $10,000 in cash.

the woman says she had just cashed a large check at a bank saturday when a man approached her, grabbed the money and threatened to kill her. the suspect is described as a 45 to 50-year-old man, 5'9", 250 pounds with a dark complexion and black hair. if you have information you are asked to call south san francisco police. >> students at a south bay high school returning to class after vandals tagged the school with offensive images. some of the graffiti is so graphic we decided to blur out the words. this was shot inside one of the classroom as at mount pleasant high on friday. the walls were tagged with references to hitler. the classroom door had racial slurs and obscenities on it, the building right now is due for demolition and some students were writing remembrances on the wall. administrators say it went too far. >> can never accept seeing

swastikas and the n word and it is offensive and we'll not tolerate it. >> pretty ridiculous. if the person or people responsible are students the district says they could be suspended or even expelled. >> it may have been a joke but no one's laughing in livermore. police are searching for someone who launched large river rocks at homes and cars over the weekend. in one case the projectile sailed through a window and slammed into a wall next to a baby's crib. the young mother is angry and upset. >> they could have killed my daughter. they could have hurt me, they could have done a lot of damage. they don't even realize being idiots. >> livermore police are hoping someone will recognize the car in this surveillance video. if you have information about the weekend vandalism spree in livermore, you are urged to call police. >> what a bunch of clowns. 4:36. the pilot in a freak midair

collision with a helicopter telling his side of the story. >> it was a big bang but i have no idea what it was. >> didn't really think about scary. thought about flying the plane. >> he did a pretty good job getting it to the ground. he was flying in sacramento county on sunday night when his plane clipped something. he said he focused on landing and didn't know what happened until he was back on solid ground. >> you don't know much about it. i didn't even know it was a helicopter until i was told later. >> apparently the helicopter was being flown by an experienced commercial pilot flying solo to earn nighttime hours towards her license. she decided not to talk to the media but told her instructor she did hear a warning from air traffic control but it was too late at that point. the chopper crashed in a field but the pilot managed to walk away. >> it could be the end of an era tonight in palo alto. the sale of the city's historic

48 near the top of the screen heading into the caldecott, out of the orinda side. not a major issue. we're looking at an accident clearing from southbound 280 as you come by san jose avenue, heading down out of san francisco into daly city. the northbound side approaching the area shows slowing on the sensors. there may be distraction. we had a few lanes blocked. the flashing lights enough to distract any one at this time of morning. a look outside shows you what things are like across the golden gate bridge. no major issues. we have doyle drive construction in the city getting to the golden gate bridge, but nothing else going on in the marin side. >> thanks. >> appreciate. 4:40 now. we're talking about rising gas prices. we led the show off with it but it's also getting attention on the campaign trail. the role gas prices are playing in the presidential race, next. >> wall street eyes a major milestone today.

>> welcome back everyone on this tuesday morning. not going to be a bad day out there according to christina loren. that is downtown san jose, the calm before the traffic starts to pick up. it is 4:43. >> rising gas prices are becoming a focus on the campaign trail today but not surprisingly gop presidential candidate rick santorum is blaming president obama. >> this president is doing everything he can to hurt energy production in this country. >> rising gas prices have hit midwesterners especially hard this winter. the obama administration is feeling the heat and announcing a new deal to drill along the gulf border with mexico. meantime, the other candidates are going after santorum. mitt romney is criticizing the former senator for spending too much in washington. >> the republicans go to washington and spend like democrats, you're going to have a lot of spending. that's what we've seen over the last several years.

>> michigan's primary election is now just a week away. >> investors hoping the dow hits that milestone, one it hasn't seen in four years. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn it over to jackie deangelis. good morning. >> good morning, jon. the futures are higher. the dow could open above the 13,000 mark which it hasn't seen since 2008. investors are breathing a sigh of relief as european leaders reached a deal on a second bail-out for greece after 13 hours of talks. the $170 billion package may help greece avoid a messy default for now. there is no economic data today but we get reports on home sales. the dow rose 45 points on friday to 12,949 t nasdaq slipping 8 to 2951. google is in more hot water, the search giant is bypassing
