i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> good morning, everyone. i'm jon kelley. time to check in now with meteorologist christina loren to find out just how good this wednesday's going to be. >> it is not too cold. cool is the key word this morning, as temperatures are right now in the 50s. it is nice and clear. taking a live look at the golden gate bridge. at this time yesterday we had a lot of fog creeping in over the bridge but this morning, nice and clear and that nice clear start off the bat will bring our temperatures toward near record levels yet again today and tomorrow. then things change. we'll talk about what that means for the upcoming weekend. let's get you out that door. >> we're working for highway 24 and those folks because they are going to get to work. still one lane, your left lane is blocked at pleasant hill road. an earlier hit and run accident leaves this car over there and it still may be block being the lane off the walnut creek interchange, though no major slowing yet. the other side of the bay, you still have the power outage affecting signals reported.

the major intersection in duboce at mission is the major intersection nearby that will be affected by this closure. duboc from elgin to mission right now. we'll track this as well. 6:01 right now. a mentally ill man suspected of killing a berkeley hills homeowner heads to court today to face murder charges. the crime is raising questions about how the man's illness was handled by the system and how police responded to the homeowner's call for help. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live in oakland where the young man will appear in court. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. daniel dewitt is expected in court here in oakland this afternoon as berkeley police are starting to clarify the timeline of how they responded to the initial calls for help and what ended up being a horrible homicide in berkeley. we're also starting to hear from people who knew the suspect, a 23-year-old former alameda high school football player. one man tells us it was no

secret that he had documented mental health problems and that his parents said that he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and had been neglected by what they saw as a broken health care system. that man is accused of killing a 67-year-old man over the weekend in his driveway in berkeley. >> he would come and see the pain. i'd say daniel, you're always welcome in our home. you have refrigerator rights, as long as somebody is home. and that was any of the kids. and i -- he's just sweet. >> a berkeley city councilwoman is also coming out saying she wants more answers about police response to that home. police released a timeline. more detailed saying that at 8:45 dispatch received a report of an unknown person hanging around that home in berkeley. at the time though, police were monitoring a protest and apparently only criminal-in-progress emergency calls were to be dispatched. at 9:00 an officer offered to

respond. that offer was declined. exactly why is still unclear. two minutes later, there was a call of an attack in progress. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." it is back to court today for a san francisco sheriff. he and his attorneys will appear at a pre-trial hearing in his domestic violence case. he is of course facing misdemeanor charges for bruising his wife's arm during a new year's eve argument. the actual trial is set to start friday. 6:03 right now. a south bay mom is facing charges along with her son in the stabbing of a teenager. san jose police say this 42-year-old woman drove her 15-year-old son from the scene after he stabbed a 13-year-old boy thursday. his injuries were not life threatening. both the mother and son are charged with attempted murder. it is 6:04 right now. new incentive this morning to catch the vandals who damaged a richmond school. congressman george miller of martinez is adding $2,500 to a

$20,000 reward for any information. the elementary new auditorium will its windows shattered, walls splattered all over with paint and the floors flood last week. it will cost the school a half million dollars to fix the damage. anyone with information is asked to contact richmond police. palo alto's historic post office could keep its community ties. it was voted unanimously to investigating buying the 80-year-old building. the u.s. postal office service wants to sell it and others as part after money saving consolidation plan. city staffers will look into what the property is worth and what it could be used for. it is expected to be put up for sale in may. muni riders an bay area drivers may continue to feel the pinch of san francisco's bug troubles. the budget deficit for san francisco's transportation agency is shrinking but ""the chronicle"" reports it is still projected to be at least $20 million for the coming fiscal year. that's significantly less than

estimated earlier, thanks to reduced overtime and workers' compensation payments. the agency needs to make up the difference by april so it is considering expanding parking meter hours to include late nights and sundays. that would raise parking fines and hike muni fares or also cutting services. 6:05 right now. one of san francisco's main hospitals may miss a state deadline to meet earthquake safety standards. san francisco examiner reports that's because of pro lolonged negotiations over the plans to build a new medical facility on cathedral hill. hospital wants to move most of the beds to the new hospital so it can comply with a seismic safety mandate without retro fitting its four aging facilities. the hospital must move the patients to the new building by january 2015. looks like another major step today for another south bay stadium project to the san jose earthquakes could get the green light to start construction. but "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us now in san jose

with why some residents are saying not so fast. good morning, bob. >> well, they've raised their concerns and as a result, tonight the san jose planning commission will decide whether or not to allow the san jose earthquakes soccer team to build their new $60 million, 18,000-seat stadium here on coleman across from norm mineta international. in december the planning department gave the quakes the go-ahead, but then a resident who lives nearby appealed citing concerns over the bright lights that will be coming out from the stadium and the noise from the crowds at the games. neighbors don't think the team has adequately addressed those concerns. the team says it can't afford to dome the stadium as some have suggested. >> you sympathize with their position though? i mean the idea of having a stadium near your house i don't think is appealing to anyone. >> well, i mean i think the key thing is that we follow the public process from the beginning. has almost been four years working through the environmental impact report, zoning, the pd permit we are

doing right now. we feel we've followed the process, worked with the city and we have a plan that addresses the community's concerns. >> reporter: we did invite neighbors to come out and speak with us this morning. they either declined or never got back to us. the planning commission meets at 6:30 tonight. staff has recommended that the commission deny this appeal and uphold the permit. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:07 right now. the america's cup sailing competition will be back before san francisco board of supervisors today. the budget and finance committee will consider approving several business plans with race leaders. among them, development rights for piers along the city's water front. today's meeting will be at 1:00 at san francisco's city hall. the race starts in san francisco's bay next year. 6:08 right now. the question is do you like warm, nice, sunny weather? >> i hope so. >> if your answer is yes, you're going to like what christina loren is telling us. >> do you like a really nice

looking pg&e bill for the month of february? because that's probably what you're going to get. you don't need your heater today. in fact, by about 9:00 a.m. to noon, temperatures are already going to end up in the low 60s in many cities. we are starting out at 54 degrees in san francisco. 45 in livermore. 48 degrees in san jose. as we head throughout your afternoon, take a look at how warm it will be at noon today inland. 68 degrees. almost at 70. we'll hold on to the low 70s as you make your way home from work at 4:00 p.m. warmest time of the day is between about 2:00 and 3:00 and we are talking about temperatures close to 80 degrees in many cities. we'll tell you if that's yours coming up. but let's talk about how nice the beach will be first today. if you want to hit the san francisco marina, up to 65 degrees. clear conditions at noon today. 4:00 p.m. -- 72 degrees. great day to break for lunch outdoors, in the city by the bay. same goes for oakland or san jose. it is going to be comfortable but a little bit on the breezy side. that's the only caveat to this really good looking winter

afternoon forecast. tell you when the rain returns coming up. first let's check your drive with mike inouye. the shot from san francisco, you see the stream of headlights moving into the city. we did get reports from chp that's what they call the slow roller. a car that's having trouble lisping along that upper deck and it was getting off over toward the san francisco side. sounds like it may just be clearing from the bridge and i do see headlights continuing to move smoothly from treasure island into san francisco. that's the upper deck in your commute direction. but back at the toll plaza we have a back-up now forming because after that slow roller was reported, they turned on those metering lights just after 6:00 a.m. it is about 20 minutes early for this thursday. the back-up already going to the 880 overcrossing. then in the last few minutes, another disable vehicle reported near treasure island. may be blocking one lane as you approach that tunnel. that's why there's even more slowing. but, the approach coming off the berkeley curve still moves smoothly. this will take a few minutes for our sensors to adjust. the rest of the feeder routes

beautiful shot tlft of the beautiful san francisco financial district. temperatures will be pushing 70 out there. the time is 6:13. following developing news out of argentina. a train crash has left hundreds hurt. "today in the bay's" marla tellez is in the newsroom with the latest international headlines. good morning. the morning commute has gone terribly wrong for people on-board and waiting for a train in buenos aires. officials say a train just pack with people crashed into the platform inside a very busy station during the morning rush hour. so far about 350 people are said to be hurt, but no deaths have been reported. the country's transportation secretary says the train simply came in too fast and hit the barrier at the end of the platform where dozens of people were standing by waiting for that train. well, now to new information coming out of italy regard rg the ship wrecked cruise ship. divers searching the costa concordia say they have found four more bodies. italian news reports say one ever those bodies is that of a

5-year-old italian girl. until today, just 17 bodies had been found. 15 people are still listed as missing. anti-american demonstrations in afghanistan turned deadly overnight. at least three protesters have been killed in demonstrations against the alleged burning of korans and other islamic religious materials by u.s. forces at bagram airbase. thousands taking part in the protests today burning tires and throwing stones in kabul. now yesterday the u.s. issued an apology and today it says the military continues to investigate this incident. >> thank you for the update, marla. 6:14 right now. if you're at home thinking to yourself, it's kind of rough, it is wednesday, tough getting out of bed, i got those blues from the midweek stuff -- >> man, you're supposed to be bringing us up. >> we're going to turn it all around. it is actually a good thing because of the weather. the good news is christina is here to tell us the weather. >> he described my morning to a

tee. no, we're going to be a really, really nice day. that means if it is your day to do the yard work, take out trash, yeah -- the weather will make that usual event that's not that fun a little bit easier for you. you don't have to dodge any showers. it won't be too cold. you don't have to bundle up before heading outdoors even this morning. 41 degrees in fairfield. 47, comfortable in oakland to start. 53 in san francisco. we are headed towards a really comfortable afternoon. one that we have not seen in months when temperature soar into the upper 70s, we may even hit the low 80s in some cities. reason why are the warm down sloping northerly breezes. right now they're picking up just a touch in santa rosa. as we head throughout the day today, the breeze will build. you'll notice that right by the water and through the higher elevations. high pressure's the reason why. it is amplifying for today. in fact, today it will be at its peak strength so it will be very warm. tomorrow we'll start out warm and that means we'll be just about as warm in the afternoon hours. but high pressure today at its max.

75 for san jose as a result. 71 in dublin and even in san francisco, hitting about 72 degrees. really comfortable conditions. many of these forecasted highs are records so we'll find out if we did break any records at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00. heading into friday, things start to change. we hold on to the 70s but low 70s inland. saturday into sunday we cool you off. look at the difference between friday and saturday, from 70 to 61. we're back in the 50s as of monday so we are going to get another stretch of winter-like weather as we head toward the second half of your weekend and the start of nefx week. let's check your drive with mike inouye. the build is happening in your typical spots -- livermore, antioch. the south bay hasn't shown any signs of slowing yet but we're looking over here, 101, tully and capital expressway, we typically see the bill here at about highway 87. we'll track that. so far speeds well above 50 on average for our sensors. we do have construction.

this has been a change in status. northbound 101, off-ramp is still closed. use the embarcadero off-ramp nearby. in san francisco, this is the issue coming off of the central freeway. 101 as you are passing by the mission boulevard exit heading over toward duboce, there will be problems. duboce still has the power outage and it is closed between elgin park and mission street because of the earlier fire right around stevenenson. power outage to the area affecting some signals as well. duboc and mission, a major intersection. avoid that as well. we end with the bay bridge toll plaza. back-up turned on early because of stalls on the bridge. back to you. 6:18 right now. fire investigators say they know what caused a one-alarm fire that sparked around 4:00 this morning at an oakland apartment complex. the man living in the complex on 37th street near linden was

trying to make a midnight meal and was using an oil lamp for light. that lamp caught fire and then spread to nearby curtains. he tried to put the fire out but couldn't so he ran to get everyone else out of the building. there was about $100,000 of dachb damage to that two-story complex. the man was treated for smoke inhalation. months after a big-time mistake sent a cannonball screaming through the city, myth busters host adam savage is there with kerry byron appearing at dublin high school tonight. they are out there promoting national engineers week. two months ago the cast was in dublin apologizing to people in nearby neighbor after a stunt for the show went haywire. a cannonball flew right past the target and plowed right through several homes and through a minivan. luckily, nobody was hurt.

6:19. a new strategy in the legal fight over california's ban on same-sex marriage. supporters of proposition 8 are going back to the 9th circuit court of appeals asking for full panel review of the ruling that struck it down. a pam of three judges ruled this month that the same-sex ban violates the civil rights of gays and lesbians. the 9th circuit appeals court could reject the request for a rehearing possibly setting up a showdown for the supreme court. there is a republican presidential debate tonight, the first in almost a month. rick santorum apparently is the one to watch tonight in arizona. he's trying to turn his success in michigan into votes in arizona. now both states hold primaries -- or actually held primaries last week. experts say tonight's debate is almost also key for romney. >> he's under the microscope. he's under pressure. he needs to do well. he needs to re-establish a sense that he's the front-runner in

the race. both states are holding primaries next week, to be clear. romney has the endorsement of michigan's governor which is not necessarily a good thing. so far, romney has yet to win a state where the current or most recent governor endorsed him. 6:20 right now. jeremy lin, an nba star, what are the odds that he could be part of an nba trend? dating a kardashian. someone actually set up those odds. we've got details coming up a competitor. we'll look coming up in business news.

welcome back. it is the victory bath of champions everywhere but it looks like gatorade could be the next sugary drink to get side lined in california schools. a state assemblyman from santa barbara wants to ban gatorade and other electrolyte drinks from school campuses during school hours. california medical association agrees with this proposal saying sports drinks are inappropriate for students because they are design for athletes during intense exercise. the sale of soda is already banned on california campuses. 6:23 right now. jeremy lin catching the eye of las vegas oddsmakers but not for his play on the court. gambling sites are now laying odds on whether lin will do what a few pro athletes have done before -- go on a date with kim kardashian. right now, odds are actually 5-1, jon, that the two will end

a suspect in a berkeley killing heads to court today in oakland as berkeley police release more information about how they responded to initial calls for help. i'm christie smith. i'll have that story coming up. the b.a.r.t. officer who shot and killed a man with a knife is killed of criminal charges, but another case still looms. the earthquakes find out today whether they can go forward with their dream soccer stadium here in the south bay. i'm rob redell. taking you live to san jose coming up. we'll take you live outside this morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the bay area on this wednesday, february 22nd. it is time to check in with meteorologist christina loren right now. the temperature is so nice, it reminds me of a marvin gaye song. >> heat wave! you know what? the weather could slow you down this time of morning on a typical winter day. but not the case today. in fact we are nice and mild to start, no fog to report and we are headed toward temperatures close to 80 degrees inland today. i'll take you through that forecast and we've got that rain if you've been missing that. that's on the seven-day as well. 6:30. first let's take you out the front door with mike. >> we're going to the bay bridge toll plaza -- go to chopper then. over the approach to the bay bridge toll plaza which is looking really backed up. metering lights were turn on early this morning after a couple of stalls happened on the upper deck just after 6:00. that's why the big build off of the berkeley curve. oakland and our shot for 880, that's northbound 880 at the coliseum with those taillights.

progress. reporting live in oakland, i'm christie smith, "today in the bay." the b.a.r.t. police officer who shot and killed a knife-wielding homeless man on a b.a.r.t. platform will not face charges. san francisco's d.a. says the transit officer acted lawfully and in self-defense when he shot charles hill in july of last year. hill's death triggered outrage and sparked a round of protests during rush hour commutes on b.a.r.t. a civil case is still moving forward against the officer. mardi gras was a relatively tame time right here in san jose this year. police tell us downtown crowds stayed relatively small and there were no reports of violence or vandalism. of course that is a far cry from the scene several years ago when police had their hands full with rowdy celebrations. in 2001, several stabbings and riots broke out when more than 10,000 partiers took to the streets. officers had to step up their patrols over the past decade by putting more officers on patrol downtown. well now that fat tuesday is

over, it is time for ash wednesday. today lent begins and it is the christian period of repentance leading to easter. it is david versus goliath. neighbors living near the proposed site for the future home of the san jose earthquakes are looking to boot the team from the area. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us from san jose with a look at a key meeting taking place tonight. >> reporter: good morning, laura. yeah, that key meeting is san jose's city's planning commission. they'll be meeting tonight to decide whether or not the earthquakes can go ahead with their plans to build a new stadium here on coleman near norm mineta. you should be able to hear those airplane jets firing up behind me. the plan is for an 18,000-seat, $60 million brand-new facility that would be built here. in december the planning department gave the quakes the go-ahead. but then a resident who lives nearby appeal saying they are concerned about the bright lights the stadium would be emitting and they're concerned

are going to start climbing as we head through the next hour. mostly clear, cool and breezy to start you out. it will be warmer today than yesterday. we were already unseasonably warm yesterday and today we're tacking on an additional five to seven degrees on average to your daytime highs. cooler changes are ahead so enjoy the seven days and the sunshine while it lasts. today and tomorrow look like the warmest days in the extended period. up to 68 degrees at noon in san jose. 71 degrees at 4:00 p.m. same goes for places like concord and livermore. so inland today very warm. by the bay in not too bad, either. 64 degrees at noon and 67 at 4:00 p.m. we'll see the offshore flow, mostly clear conditions from the coast all the way through your inland cities making for almost uniform temperatures. not too much of a difference between our highs today right by the water versus your inland cities. i'll let you know when things start to change, when that rain arrives. that's my seven-day forecast in my next report. first let's check your drive at 6:37 with mike.

>> all right, folks. out to the livermore valley, tri valley, opposite your main commute, eastbound right around grant line road, reports of an accident just in the last few seconds. sounds like it is on the shoulder and again is opposite your main commute. but 35 as you approach grant line in the westbound direction shows a slow drive all the way over through livermore and speeds in the 30s all the way to the dublin interchange. not a major problem through castro valley. just through the "y" for the throwing. the maze, 580 starts to slow as it approaches the interchange with interstate 80. metering lights turned early. back-ups on the east shore freeway in many spots, because of the earlier stalls on the bay bridge. there is another one reported in fact right around treasure island making things slow flow across the bay. in the city we still have that closure, duboce right around stevenson. sounds like from elgin park to mission street still closed because of the earlier transformer fire. i'm told by the department of traffic control over there that they actually have the street

welcome back. in about 20 minutes president obama will speak at the groundbreaking of the smithsonian museum of african-american history and culture. "today in the bay's" tracie potts is live in washington to tell us more about the museum. >> reporter: good morning. the first lady will also be there and also former first lady laura bush. she's on the advisory committee. this has been a long time in the making, since before 2003 when congress first approved it. taxpayers are going to pay half the bill, $500 million is the total. taxpayers paying half. the other half for construction of this museum being footed by private donations and that's part of what took so long. but it will focus on african-american history and culture and community right here on the national mall. part of the smithsonian

institute. now the celebration will include music today, denise graves and others participating in this. what's really interesting are these 25,000 artifacts that they're going to have in the museum, everything from slave shackles to michael jackson's fed do fedora. they've got a dress worn by rosa parks. plane used to train the tuskegee airmen. so lots of history here. the museum itself is expected to open in 2015. jon, can you bethel's have a lot of visitors. this is a big, new museum. they've got an exhibit here in the american history museum but the first time that african-american culture is going to have its own museum right here on the national mall. >> that is very impressive, tracie potts, thank you very much. >> won't that be neat to see. >> yes, yes. it is 6:43. coming up, 15 minutes of uninterrupted news, including a live report from bob redell talking about the new

welcome back, everyone. good wednesday morning to you. 6:45 right now. time to get a look at that forecast. pretty good looking. >> really good looking forecast. in fact, let's show you the different parts of the bay area. starting with san jose, gorgeous sunrise here. just a few of those high cirrus clouds comprised of ice crystals. those are the only clouds that are able to make their way through the big strong ridge of high pressure we had out there. now take a look at our live picture over the bay bridge this morning. just gorgeous. what you will notice are some ripples out there on the bay. we do have choppy conditions out there as winds are picking up so keep that in mind. nonetheless, even with those breezy conditions it is going to be gorgeous today. the breeze will actually feel

island. i don't know if they're using the off-ramp or moving over to san francisco. all i know is lanes are going to be cleared hopefully in a couple of minutes. that created an early back-up in addition to a couple of others. our chopper in the area, coming down the east shore freeway shows a good number of cars heading down through the area. speeds okay in spots but as we get you back to the maps we'll show you how this breaks down for interstate 80. slowing right around pinole valley road. car is now facing the wrong direction in your fast lane after spinning around. that's a huge distraction as well as one lane blocked coming off of hercules and more slowing off the carquinez bridge. more slowing down toward berkeley. by the time you get to university the volume heading toward the bay bridge is going to impact your drive. earlier disabled trucks and vehicles all in the last hour have had an issue with the traffic flow from oakland into san francisco. as we look at other spots in the bay, slow drive northbound 101 from capital up towards 880, as

well as highway 85 coming through san jose. typical build for the south bay. construction on the oregon expressway has cleared, 101 is a nice drive up the peninsula. guys, back to you. a young man with a history of mental illness will head to court today to face murder charges. the case is not only raising questions about how the suspect's mental health was handled by the system but also how police hand the victim's call for help. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live in oakland where the suspect heads to court later today. >> reporter: neighbors who knew the suspect say that he had documented mental health issues and probably wasn't getting all the help that he needed. he'll be in court this afternoon here in oakland while berkeley police are offering a timeline of how they responded to the victim's calls for help saturday night. the 67-year-old man was found beaten to death in his driveway and that police timeline shows that at 8:45 p.m. dispatch received a report of a person hanging around that home. at the time though police were

monitoring a coming protest. then at 9:00 an officer apparently offered to go but only in-progress emergency calls were to be dispatched. then two minutes later the call turned into an attack in progress. officers responded and later arrested 22-year-old daniel dewitt. he is expected in court this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. the san francisco sheriff heading back to court today in his domestic violence case. he and attorneys for both sides will meet for a pre-trial hearing. sheriff facing misdemeanor charges for bruising his wife's arm during a new year's eve argument. that trial is expected to start friday. a shaes mother and son facing attempted murder charges this morning. police say the 42-year-old woman drove the get-away car after her 15-year-old son stabbed a boy during an argument last thursday. the younger teen is recovering from his wounds. police are looking for a third boy who may have been involved. 6:50 right now. another stadium project in the

south bay is facing a major test today. the san jose earthquakes are looking for the green light to try and start construction. but "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live from san jose where some neighbors are standing in the site's way. >> reporter: they've appealed to the san jose city's planning commission. good morning to you, jon. that commission will meet tonight to decide whether or not to give the earthquakes the final go-ahead to build what would be their dream strayadium near their training facility across from norm ma nineta international. the stadium would be very close to a neighborhood and there is a resident in this neighborhood who has appealed to the planning commission to say do not permit them to do this. the planning department did give the team the permit in december but this resident who lives nearby appealed citing concerns over the stadium's bright lights and noise from the games. neighbors don't think the team has adequately addressed those concerns. they've suggested that the team

put a dome over the stadium, but the earthquakes say that's something they cannot afford. >> do you sympathize with their position though? i mean the idea of having a stadium near your house i don't think is appealing to anyone. >> well, i mean i think the key thing is that we followed the public process from the beginning. it's almost been four years now working through the environmental impact report, the zoning, the pd permit that we're doing now. so we feel that we've followed the process, worked with the city and we have a plan that addresses the community's concerns. >> reporter: we did invite neighbors to come out and speak with us this morning. they either declined or never got back to us. the planning commission meets at 6:30 tonight. staff has recommended that the commission deny this appeal and uphold the original permit. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:52 right now. patriots quarterback tom brady is in the bay area this morning, but it is with a heavy heart. his long-time mentor and former coach tom martinez has died. martinez suffered a heart attack

yesterday. his health had declined recently due to complications from diabetes. he was in need of a kidney transplant and brady helped promote the search for a donor. martinez leaves behind a storied history in community college sports. he won championships in football, women's basketball and softball at the college of san mateo winning 1,400 games. >> absolutely he was a legend. and we will never forget the contributions he made here. >> it's a very sad day for us all. tom martinez was really the incarnation of glog athletics. >> martinez had served as brady's mentor since the patriots quarterback was 13 years old. brady considered him to be a father figure. tom martinez was 66 years old. yesterday was his birthday. the man who helped transform california's wine labels into eye catching pieces of art has died. the "press democrat" reports

bill bertram died on monday. his printing and design company introduced the concept of the artistic wine bottle labels in the mid 1970s. he was 78 years old. an update now to developing news we've been following out of argentina. a train crash has left hundreds injured. "today in the bay's" marla tellez is in our newsroom with the latest. >> we are learning dozens of people are trapped in the train that crashed during the morning commute. this is all happening right now at a very popular train station in buenos aires. at least 340 people are now hurt after the train they were on or waiting for slammed into a station platform. officials say it was just simply going too fast. also new this morning in syria, we are getting our first look at the media center where two western journalists were killed in another overnight shelling. an american reporter from new york, marie colvin seen right here and a french photo

lion up the tree where it stayed for several hours. fish and game officers decided it was best to just let that lion come down on its own. it eventually did and disappeared into the woods. >> wise decision. the giants pitcher may not participate in a full practice with the team today. he was out on the field yesterday but only for a few minutes. then he had to go back to the locker room with the team's trainer. they say don't worry about it, it is not anything serious. he has some general back stiffness. it is a problem that most players deal with at this time in the game. he'll be fine. he dealt with back stiffness last season as well. spring training is just a couple of days old a it is probably safe to say it's produced some of the weirdest stories already. new york mets pitcher jonathan nice arrived with a new, smaller nose. he got a nose job in the off-season thanks to former giant carlos beltran. beltran convinced the pitcher he could use some work before the mets traded beltran to the
