good morning. thanks for being with us. 4:30. i'm in for jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check out the forecast. good morning. >> good morning, ladies. we have some breezy conditions out there, but overall the winds have substantially relaxed overnight. as we head throughout the morning, grab that jacket. but something that you can peel off by noon as temperatures climb into the 60s. got a real good-looking day ahead, then the rain moves back in. we'll tell you when in the full forecast. first your drive with mike inouye. we have winds left over from yesterday continuing to this morning, but we'll take you out to a live shot, the san mateo bridge. the camera is not shaking on the hayward side, but the glowing sign says high-wind advisory. we'll look at 880 past the coliseum, a little north of that 92 interchange. we see the camera shaking here as well. the east bay hills likely to get

caught with gusts. we'll talk about construction that could further slow you for 680 coming up. we begin with developing news. a double death mystery has sunnyvale police working late. >> two people shot and killed inside the home. stephanie trung is live with details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. sunnyvale crime scene investigators were out here on the 800 block until the early morning hours trying to figure out what happened. we know when police got here around 7:45 last night, they discovered two bodies inside. neighbors the tell us that three people live here -- a father, a mother, and a teenaged son. we know detectives did interview one resident last night. we don't know which one. and that the two bodies were of adults who were shot to death. what they're trying to figure out is exactly what led up to this. police will not confirm whether the two lived at this home. investigators are trying to determine whether this is a double homicide or a murder/suicide.

>> that's what we're investigating right now. i mean, anything is a possibility at this point. we just know we have two dead bodies inside the house and we're investigating to see what transpired. >> reporter: police had also not released any information about the genders of the two bodies or if anyone else was here when it happened last night. the "mercury news" is reporting there were no reports of disturbances here earlier yesterday. we do have calls in to sunnyvale police, and we'll give you the updates as soon as we get them. live in sunnyvale, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." it is 4:33. p man accused of running down a young baseball fan in san francisco will be in court this morning. 22-year-old andrew vargas could enter a plea on charges of felony dui and hit-and-run. last august, police say he hit the boy as he crossed mission street after leaving a giants/phillies game at at&t park. vargas was allegedly driving the wrong way on a one-way street

and then he took off from the scene. the boy was critically injured but has since recovered. san jose police have arrested three teenagers for killing a small dog. police say two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old stomped the four-pound yorkshire terrier named shadow to death last month while robbing and beating the dog's owner. investigators say the suspects thought the dog's owner was a rival gang member. two of the suspects were already in custody on unrelated charges. the third suspect has been booked into juvenile hall. 4:34. turning to decision 2012. super tuesday appears to have been super for mitt romney. 11 states voted and romney won more than any other candidate, including the tight race in ohio. tracie potts has the numbers for us. >> reporter: it appears mitt romney eked out a very narrow victory over rick santorum in ohio, as little as one percentage point. >> not going to let you down.

i'm going to get this nomination. >> reporter: romney realizes it's all about delegates, and he's now got more than 300. it's a numbers game, and he's winning. >> tonight we're doing some counting. we're counting up the delegates for the convention, and it looks good. and we're counting down the days until november, and that looks even better. >> reporter: romney also won his home state, massachusetts -- vermont, virginia, idaho, alaska, and four delegates in wyoming. santorum scored victories in tennessee, oklahoma, and north dakota. >> we have won in the west, the midwest, and the south. and we're ready to win across this country! >> reporter: newt gingrich only won his home state of georgia and may end up with less than half that state's delegates. santorum today is urging him to drop out. >> we are not going to allow the elite to decide who we are allowed to nominate. >> reporter: ron paul had hoped to win the caucus states, but he

area. israeli president shimon peres last night made his only public appearance at the temple emanuel in san francisco. president peres thanked the u.s. for its friendship as israel faces what he calls the most serious danger of our time, iran. >> today iran calls for the destruction of israel, denies the holocaust. in my judgment, they are the most [ speaking a foreign language ] in our time. >> peres is hopeful change is coming. he says more than half of the arabs in the middle east are under 30 and it's the young people who are triggering revolutions and fighting for freedom. people have been buzzing about it for weeks now. in just a few hours, apple is expected to unwrap its newest ipad. >> i'm excited. everything apple has release sod far is amazing. no reason to believe it won't be. >> new stuff on it, better

software and everything. >> like what, do you know? >> usb. >> i knew something was coming today. i didn't want to buy it today and have it be obsolete in two months. >> the big announcement comes at 10:00 this morning in san francisco. nbc bay area will be there to bring you the latest coming up in about ten minutes. we'll check in with cnbc to find out what features they've added to the new ipad. good morning to you. we're going to see a bunch of sunshine today as high pressure takes control of that forecast. and it's that mostly clear start making way to really cold conditions out there. we're back in the 30s in santa rosa, 37 there, 39 in gilroy. holding onto the mid to low 40s for the greater bay area. kind of a cold start. grab that jacket, something you can take off by noon. we have some pretty gusty winds out there, but you take a look at the sustained wind speeds and they're about half as strong as

they were this time yesterday morning. a lot of improvement there. the wind advisory has expired, good news, and the winds will continue to calm down throughout the day today and this big ridge of high pressure set up and makes for quiet weather. it's going to continue to move to the east throughout today, pushing that area of low pressure off to the east. for us, that means offshore flow, that warming trend where the winds warm us up as they pump from land to sea. breezy today but not windy. toss that word out. thursday, in the 70s, and calm at that point all together. we'll take you through your weekend. another strong storm on the way, a lot more rain as we head towards the beginning of next week. i'll take you through the forecast. it's 4:39. let's check your dwrooif mike. like you said, the winds trying down compared to yesterday but there are still advisories for the higher profile, larger vehicles. the southbound side is where there's construction that may be a distraction.

i'll which can out things. no incidents reported. just north of the interchange things clear up. further north, construction as well. that may be an issue through the san ramon valley. speeds are not a problem, just distraction from the lights. the carquinez bridge, caught with a gust or two. might slow you down a little bit or you should slow down. eastbound 80 through hercules, some slowing through the construction zone, but things are looking back towards the limit. watch for the cone zone and slow for it. the bay bridge, you can see the shake again from our camera. this is causing quite a stir as far as the wind goes at your higher elevations. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 4:40. good news in a follow-up report we brought to you on monday. the specialized van stolen from

welcome back, everyone. taking a live look outside. not a lot of cloud cover to keep us warm this morning. quite cool before you head out the door. full forecast coming up. california's bullet train could be ballooning again. a report by a nonpartisan government group says the state will have to set aside more than $700 million each year just to repay billions of dollars in loans to construct the first

phase of the bullet train. that figure is higher than past estimates partly because of higher borrowing rates. a recent poll found many voters in california would reject the project because of its cost if they had another chance to vote on it. it is 4:44 right now. apple is set to launch its newest product today in san francisco, and many believe it will be that new ipad. speculation really flying about what could be different with the next generation of tablets. jackie deangeles has more and the rest of our business news at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, jackie. good morning, laura. the futures are higher after yesterday's sell-off. it was the worst day for the dow since late november and the nasdaq and s&p 500 since early to mid-december. investors pointing to greece with worries a that not enough private creditors will agree to a bond swap offer that would fave way for european leaders to give athens another bailout. there is concern if the swap doesn't go through, greece could default on its debt in a disorderly fashion. we'll get data on private sector

jobs, productivity, and labor costs as well as consumer credit. we saw the dow fall 203 points to 12,759. the nasdaq losing 40 to close at 2,910. we'll find out exactly what apple has up its sleeve today. they're expected to unveil the new ipad at the center for arts at 10:00 a.m. pacific time. the latest report says it won't be called ipad 3 but instead i pad hd due to its higher resolution screen, faster speeds. the device includes voice recognition software, which is very popular. apple is expected to cut the price of the ipad to grab market share for the lower-end tablet. american express is teaming up with twitter for about a dozen retailers. cardholders can tweet to a specific hashtag for specific offers. after you make a purchase, the deal savings will be credited to your card in a few days. just what we need. >> helping out the economy is what it is, jackie. thank you.

positive spin on it. a man who led the world's biggest car make maker out of bankruptcy will be in san francisco today. dan ackerson is the headline speaker at a commonwealth club event. he oversaw gm's emergence from chapter 11 bankruptcy with the help of almost $50 billion government loans. the company has paid half of it back, and profits are on the rise. google is taking on itunes in a big way. the internet giant is creating a single destination called google play where books, music, movies, and games will live in one place. users can store up to 20,000 songs for free, purchase new tracks and download more than 400 and roid apps and games. they can rent ebooks and movies on the site. google play can reach from any browser at play.google.com. competition continues there. 4:47. we had pretty high winds yesterday, a lot of advisories. those are all gone now?

>> as far as the national weather service is concerned. mike inouye, you'll likely hear him throughout the morning talking about issues by the california highway patrol. but when it comes to your initial adviser from the national weather service, winds have died down below advisory strength. as we head throughout the morning, still breezy and cold out there, so off windchill factor and will need a jacket. by noon today, temperatures climbing, in the upper 50s, even some low 60s in the warmest cities across the bay for lunch. it will be warmer today than yesterday. it was windy and sunny, but it was cold. temperatures only ended up in the 50s. the strongest wind speed are in livermore, 15 miles per hour sustained, 10 miles per hour in san jose. elsewhere, below 10 miles per hour. high pressure is making for a more stable airline mass as it moves onshore. it will really strengthen today. this will bring temperatures up by about ten degrees from yesterday's highs. back to the 70s tomorrow and keep on climbing as we kick off your friday.

it works out like this for today. high of about 66 in morgan hill, east bay, 65 for concord. across the bay. comfortable in san francisco, 66 your forecasted high. seven-day outlook tells the story. another storm system on the way. one will roll through on saturday. we might see a few stray showers in the north bay. overall we'll see more clouds. then we have a potent system on the way tuesday, oh, it will be rainy around here, and that system will carry well into wednesday and thursday. overall next week looking like a washout. if you want to get that sunshine, you've got plenty of opportunities now through friday. back to you ladies. thank you very much. 4:49. morbidly obese livermore man is getting his wish. robert gibbs turned to youtube last week to make a public plea for help as he celebrated his 23rd birthday. but the video got more than a million views and caught the attention of dr. phil, who will visit gibbs today. gibbs says he's struggled with obesity all of his life and now

weighs between 600 and 700 pounds. he says his last chance to get help and see his young niece and nephew grow up. good for him. good luck to him. this morning new charges against a man accused of posing as a plastic surgeon in san francisco. he will be charged with more than a dozen new felonies on friday including sexual battery. he's been in jail since december when a woman reported receiving liposuction from him was treated for serious infection. the district attorney's office uncovers six new victims. on the eve of the march 8th international women's day holiday, activists will take part in pro abortion and contraception marches around the country and here in the bay area. in san francisco, protesters will target the office of arch george niederauer at 5 to o'clock and then march to st. mary's cathedral.

welcome back, everyone. good wednesday morning. live look outside from the east bay this morning, oracle arena. a cold start to the morning. we'll have more coming up in just a bit. 4:54. well, oakland is making another attempt to keep its sports teams in town. last night, the security council approved $3.5 million toward efforts to redevelop the coliseum complex for the raiders, the a's, and warriors have played for more than four decades. all three teams are being courted by other cities. oakland said it doesn't have the money to completely revamp the complex and it's hoping private

investors will help. the san jose sharks coming off a tough loss last night taking on the edmonton oilers. oilers first to strike, but the sharks answered back, tying the game up at 1-1. this one goes to a shoot-out but the sharks couldn't hang on. oilers win 3-2. sharks have only two wins in their last ten games. to the baseball diamond, san francisco giants up against rival dodgers. giant kept a comfortable lead going into the sixth inning-melky ka ka barrera had his second home run of the game. not too bad. giants win 8-4. peyton manning's time with the indianapolis colts appears to be over. espn is reporting the colts will release their quarterback today. manning missed the entire 2011 season while recovering from neck surgery. the colts avoid having to pay manning a $28 million roster bonus by letting him walk. manning is expected to hold a news conference today. i read a fascinating statistic he was making about $1,400 an

4:56 right now. students from southern california getting quite a treat this week. a really big treat. the world's largest chocolate bar is on display in l.a. the 12,190-pound bar is touring schools around the country to promote, what else, healthy eating among younger kids. makes sense, right? not really. actually, the bar was created as an example of portion distortion, commenting on how large serving sizes have gotten over the past several years. the 21-foot-long bar will visit more than 60 schools as part of the tour. interesting. 4:57 right now.
