all quiet now, only a porch light with the sensor going on and off occasionally. crime scene investigators were on the 800 block of nectarine avenue from 8:00 last night till the early morning hours. still a lot of unanswered questions, though. we have learned this morning that detectives interviewed one resident of this house back at police headquarters last night. neighbors tell us there are three people who live here -- a father, a mother, and a teenaged son. it is not known which of the three was interviewed. police confirmed the two bodies were of adults who were shot to death. police will not say whether the two lived that the home. at last check, they were still trying to determine whether this was a double homicide or a murder/suicide. >> that's what we're investigating right now. i mean, anything is a possibility at this point. we just know we have two dead bodies inside the house and we're investigating to see what transpired. >> reporter: detectives not ruling anything out at this point. they did not release anything

about the genders or if anyone else was here last night. made no arrests. the "mercury news" is reporting there were no reports of disturbances here earlier yesterday. that does go in line with what neighbors told us off camera, they did not hear or see anything strange. live in sunnyvale, stephanie chuang. three suspects in the stomping death of a small dog are in custody this morning. 15- and 16-year-old gang members killed a four-pound mini yorkshire terrier named shadow last month. the teens are also charged with beating and robbing the dog's owner, who they thought was a rival gang member. two suspects were already in custody on unrelated charges. now the third is being held at juvenile hall. a hayward man accused of running down a pennsylvania boy near at&t park could reach a plea agreement today. 22-year-old andrew vargas was charged with drunk driving and felony hit-and-run. he's accused of running down 9-year-old ryan white last august as white and his family

were walking to their hotel from the phillies/giants games at at&t park. white was critically injured, but he's recovering at home in pennsylvania. vargas remains in jail on $455,000 bail. he had originally pleaded not guilty in this case. it is 5:04. talks of leaving the east bay could be coming to an end for all three of oakland's professional sports teams this morning. "today in the bay's" christie smith is in oakland where lawmakers approved $4.5 million to redevelop the coliseum complex. good morning. >> good morning to you, laurie. ask just about anyone here in oakland about the teams that have been playing at the coliseum for a dedeck aimds andy will tell you this is where they belong, not even open for discussion about moving. now the oakland security council has approved spending about $3.5 million to try and redevelop the entire coliseum complex and land just across interstate 880,

potentially great news for the raider nation, as there has been talk of teams being lured to move. the warriors considering to move west to san francisco. the city is setting aside $1.6 million to help pay for a redevelopment team to we be ginn talking with the sports teams about the possibility of the new facility and another $2 million for planning on a 700-acre site toward the airport. that could be sort of a technology hub with an entertainment center, retail, hotels, and then residential space. so the question, of course, is where is the money coming from. one security council member warned as much as oakland loves their sports teams, the city really doesn't have a lot of money to spend on things like this. oakland is hoping to bring in potential investors. the study is expected to last about a year and the oakland security council is expected to reveal more about their plans at

a press conference this morning. live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." now to decision 2012. super tuesday tallies six more wins for mitt romney, but rick santorum isn't down for the count yet. >> we have won in the west, the midwest, and the south, and we're ready to win across this country. >> i stand ready to lead our party, and i stand ready to lead our nation to prosperity. >> among the key wins for romney, ohio and his home state of massachusetts. santorum scored victories in at least three states including oklahoma and tennessee. newt gingrich won his home state of georgia, but ron paul was shut out after romney won alaska. of course anything could thap this morning. we'll have a live report from ohio in about 40 minutes with the latest. 5:06. this morning, israel's president

continues his whirlwind tour of bay area tech hubs. president shimon peres will open the launch conference at a san francisco design center today. at least two dozen experts will also attend that conference. tomorrow peres tours google before leaving the bay area for los angeles. he spoke last night in san francisco, well attended by many. meteorologist christina loren hanging around in the nbc bay area weather center. how is it looking? >> she just hangs around. >> that's what i do. time to lean or time to clean. boy, this glass needs a cleaning. i'll get to that in just a minute. let's get to your forecast first. we have a cold start. grab your jacket this morning especially in santa rosa, napa, north bay the coldest. temperatures in the upper 30s. elsewhere, we've got the low to mid-40s. as we head throughout the morning hours, strong high pressure will really bring up those numbers as soon as the sun comes out. we're talking about temperatures climbing into the mid-50s by noon today. we'll round out the day with plenty of 60s. winds have calmed down, but they

are creeping up just a little bit in fairfield. elsewhere, though, pretty calm winds, especially in the south end of the bay area. still pretty gusty through higher elevations. you want to keep that in mind if you're crossing any of your local bridges this morning in your high-profile vehicle. hold onto that steering wheel tight. temperatures climbing into the 50s. by noon, the 60s. by 4:00 p.m. that means we'll be about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday instead of the windy, blustery conditions. it will be breezy. one thing we have to deal with when it comes to those strong winds kicking up all that pollen, a rather mild winter, a lot of blooming out there already. as a result, got a moderate allergy forecast for you for today. moderate levels of pollen out there. keep that in mind. keep your allergy medicine handy. it will likely be even higher tomorrow. we'll take you through that forecast. a lot more wind for today. breezy, not as strong as

bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, marla. it's all speculation about what apple will reveal later this morning, but no one among the people who follow this sort of thing is expecting a radical change with what is expected to be a third-generation ipad, not like the ipad 2, which added two cameras and trimmed down. instead, some are guessing this version will be called the ipad hd, thinking it will have a high-def display with much better resolution than the ipad 2, speculation about a faster processor, speedier wi-fi access to the internet and perhaps serie, the voice-activated assista assistant. best news it will go on sale a week from friday. apple is also expected to make an announcement regarding apple tv. that's the little white box, that device that plugs into your current television. all speculation, though, ends at 10:00 a.m. when apple begins its presentation here at the center for the arts.

reporting live in san francisco, bob redell, "today in the bay." it's 5:13. this morning ibm's supercomputer, watson, is getting a new gig. for that story and the rest of our news before the bell, jackie de angelis is live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> good morning to you. the futures are higher today after yesterday's sell-off. it was the worst day for the dow since late november and the nasdaq and s&p 500 since early to mid-december. investors pointing to greece with worries a that not enough private creditors will agree to a bond swap offer that would fave way for european leaders to give athens another bailout. there is concern if the swap doesn't go through, greece could default on its debt in a disorderly fashion. we'll get data on private sector jobs, productivity, and labor costs as well as consumer credit. watch for those. we saw the dow fall 203 points to 12,759. the nasdaq losing 40 to close at 2,910. netflix is reportedly in talks with cable companies about adding the movie-streaming

pretty breezy conditions right at the coast this morning. indicated by the blue shading. elsewhere, some strong gusts coming through fairfield, also livermore and san jose, and that will continue to be the case as we head through next couple hours. the winds are dropping off. they dropped off substantially overnight. let me show you your futurecast when it comes to the winds. you can see already at their strongest right now. we continue that from 5:00 a.m., take you all the way through the rest of the day, and you can see by about midnight we're talking about a much better situation, calm winds across the bay area as high pressure moves in and brings in that stable air mass. that's what we're expecting for today. it will push that cold out of the way. for us, we're talking about a warm-up that lasts well into friday, then another area of low pressure moves in. so if you want the rain, you want that sierra snowfall, we have that in the forecast as well. been a very dry and mild winter. we are just about to spring. first day of spring is the 20th of this month. you can see through your seven-day forecast things don't change all that much until we

hit saturday and sunday, area of low pressure to our north drop our temperatures, bringing more clouds. but the rain holds off until tuesday. tuesday, wednesday, and thursday of next week, though, look like washout days. that's good news. we need that rain. we're still running a deficit, although we have put a pretty good dent in it over the past couple weeks. let's check your dwrooif mike. watch tuesday, usually heavy commute days. right now, no major issues. highway 17 down through the summit, we have construction, typical overnight construction zone there. the construction on peninsula is clearing up. southbound 101 in between willow and university, those crews are gone now. look at this. the off ramp at willow, that was scheduled till possibly 7:00 a.m., but the road crew cleared from the off ramp. that is open again. on-ramp at embarcardero still there. dumbarton bridge the advisory. the sustained winds are not so much of a deal.

you see the camera shaking at 101, not as severely as yesterday. we check with the airlines before you leave. 580 is the problem. livermore, right at airway, the accident on the shoulder, another car in the median causing a distraction. 17-minute drive through the area. 5:18. today the coast guard will start laying out some maritime rules for the upcoming america's cup yacht race. the coast guard is planning to reroute boat traffic between the golden gate bridge and alcatraz between august and september of this year and july of september of 2013. you can weigh in at three public meetings this week. today in san francisco at the presidio log cabin. tomorrow in novato at the inn marin, and friday in oakland at the waterfront hotel. all of those meetings will be held at 6:00. san francisco has golden gate park, marin has vista point. oakland is working on its plans

for gateway park. a public hearing will be held this morning on the project at the east end of the bay bridge. the city is discussing the idea of adding a park with the south enl where the new one will touch down. officials say at the public hearing they plan to discuss design and cost of that park. the meeting will be held at 9:30 this morning at the metro center auditorium in oakland. saving the environment one tree at a time. that's what cal fire is hoping to do this week. today marks the first day of arbor week in california. to commemorate the event, cal fire is asking the bay area community to plant a tree today. cal fire says the trees will reduce air and noise pollution and make the bay area less of a concrete jungle and more natural and beautiful scenery. their hope is sl thousands of trees will be planted this week. california arbor week starts today and ends march 17th. it is 5:19. palo alto's municipal golf

course could get a major redesign. city leaders are looking into a proposal that will will build a levee at the golf course to protect people living downstream. in addition, security council committee is throwing its support behind an ambitious plan to relocate 15 of the golf course's 18 holes as well as creating 15 new greens and set aside about 10 acres for a new athletic field. that revamp would cost about $7 million. coming up, first sharks, now the bulls. the new bay area hockey team hoping to rope fans into the cow palace. and really big changes coming to twitter that can save you money.

on the bridges, so hold on tight, especially over the hills in the east bay. new financial developments to keep eastman kodak's three professional sports teams home. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live with efforts by the city leaders to try to spruce up the coliseum complex. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you. well, you know, there's been talk of an uptown stadium, a stadium over by the square, which would have been a waterfront stadium. a lot of folks like that idea. but now the coliseum location is getting a second look. and really if you're talking about freeway accidents, you couldn't ask for a better location. that's 880 right there, maybe a hundred feet away. if you ask the raider nation, this is where the teams belong right here in oakland. the security council last night approved spending $3.5 million, part of which will go to an environmental review. that should take about a year, a year and a half. but the oakland raiders and the a's' leases with the coliseum

expire next year. both teams have said they really want their own stadiums. the a's, of course, eyeing san jose, the warriors even looking toward san francisco. but apparently expressing interest in these new oakland possibilities that are being floated. this plan might include not just a stadium overhaul but hotels, shopping, entertainment, and technology right across 880 over toward the airport. so of course the question is who pays for all this. well, some redevelopment funds, the last of them, would apparently go into this. but mostly it would be privately funded, and the teams would have to chip in as well. the oakland security council expected to reveal a lot more about this. they're holding a press conference this morning at 10:30 at oakland city hall. live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." the cost of california's proposed bullet train could balloon even more. researchers found the state will have to set aside more than $700 million each year to repay billions of dollars in loans just for the first phase of

construction. many voters would reject the project because of its cost if they had another chance to vote on it. we continue to follow a developing story out of sunnyvale this morning. police workd through morning on a double shooting inside a home. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live at the scene with an update on that investigation. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: good morning. for hours last night, crime scene investigators were out here on the 800 block of nectarine avenue searching for any clues to what happened. this after sunnyvale police got a report that two people were shot inside that home behind me. by the time they got here, the two were already dead. now, what we do know new this morning is detectives questioned one of the resident who is lives here at this home. that was questioned back at the police headquarters last night. neighbors tell us there are three people who live here -- a father, a mother, and a teenage

and also dislocated his elbow. the officer and his partner mistook pina as a gang member but says he resisted arrest. a federal jury found the officer liable for damages in a civil suit and awarded pina $11,000 in damages. 5:35 right now. we're now learning if a san francisco mechanic accused of molesting a 5-year-old girl may have at least three more victims. kyle clifton is accused of having sex with a girl over the course of eight years starting when she was just 5 years old. friday he will enter a plea. this morning a high school senior in palo alto is facing assault charges after a stapler attack on campus. officers say a senior at the high school accused another student of stealing his cell phone then hit him several times in the head with a stapler. it happened monday. the student allegedly also hit another student. both victims were given first aid and will be okay.

the 18-year-old suspect faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon. a specialized van that was stolen from an east bay quadriplegic is back home this morning. it was stolen from roundtree's driveway in vallejo. someone spotted it three blocks away and called the police. she was left a kraudry pleenlic after a car accident but uses the van to go to school. we want to check our forecast with christina loren. what is in store for us? >> we have a pretty nice stretch of weather as we head into the weekend. good morning, ladieladies. good morning to you at home. we have to get through breezy conditions this morning. the winds will continue to subside throughout the day, and by tomorrow morning we're talking about calm, light wind at this time. one more day of breezy conditions. we're cold this morning. you'll need that jacket but only until about noon. then temperatures will soar to the upper 50s and 60s under

strong high pressure. we'll stay breezy at least for the first part of the day. by tonight, the winds start to relax. a little cooler by the water. as you make your way home from work, one by-product of the gusty conditions, a high pollen count. we're in the moderate to high range. as you can see, yeah, these are your predominant offenders -- mold, alder, ash, juniper and grass. keep that allegra handy for today. tomorrow we'll probably be in the moderate to high range as well. then when the winds drop off as we round out the workweek, we should see a significantly lower pollen count. that's good news. i have your seven-day forecast in your next report. first your drive with mike. you have the algae and congestion from pollen. i have an accident causing congestion for livermore. looking at westbound 580 at portola avenue. look at the slowdown. all activity has moved to the shoulder as i reported last time. that's making things move more smoothly past the scene.

super tuesday appeared to be a super sweep for mitt romney. they're still counting votes and delegates, but 11 states voted. romney won more than any candidate, including a tight race in ohio. tracie potts is live in columbus with a look at some of the latest numbers. good morning. >> reporter: laura, good morning. good morning, everyone. won here by just 1%, which means he gets bragging rights for winning a battleground state, but rick santorum gets a lot of the delegates from this state. mitt romney is still far out front when it comes to the delegates, and that's what they're all counting because that's what counts toward the nomination. here's what the candidates all had to say after the results came in from these 11 states last night. >> not going to let you down. i'm going to get this nomination. >> we need a person running against president obama who is right on the issues and truthful with the american public.

>> we are not going to allow the elite to decide who we are allowed to nominate. >> we're on the right track, so make sure they hear our message all the way to d.c. >> reporter: now, ron paul didn't win any of those caucus states he was going after yesterday. gingrich only won georgia. santorum won tennessee, oklahoma, and north dakota. the rest went to mitt romney. next we head south to the southern states and the plain states. we have alabama, kansas, mississippi coming up all in the next week. and that is where you're going to see the candidates campaigning starting today. laura? >> so interesting. thank you very much, tracie. well, meantime president obama will leave the white house this morning to visit another politically important state -- north carolina. the president will arrive in charlotte ain just a few hours o tour a daimler truck plant.

the white house says the president will focus on fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks. this afternoon secretary of state hillary clinton will celebrate the week that changed the world. secretary clinton will speak at the u.s. institute of peace in washington, d.c., to mark 40 years since president nixon's critical meetings with leaders of the people's republic of china. nixon's trip in 1972 ended 25 years of isolation between the two countries. former secretary of state henry kissinger will also speak at today's events. 5:23 right now. sites are buzzing as apple prepares to unveil its newest version of the ipad. bob redell joins us from san francisco with some of the fanfare and some of the features that apple is adding to the device. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. anyone expecting what is expected to be the third generation of the i pat to be light-years ahead of the ipad 2

might be disappointed. you might recall that one had two new cameras and was slimmer and lighter in size. but the speculation surrounding what would be the third generation is that it would have perhaps serie, the voice-activated assistant you find on our iphone 4s, speedier access to wi-fi, faster processor and a high definition display leading some to think they'll be calling this not the ipad 3 but the ipad hd. there are some thoughts from our own tech and business guru, scott buznick. >> not a radical change in design but on the inside, a lot of new software, a faster processor, some new apps certainly, maybe even a better camera. >> and apple is expected also to make an announcement about its apple tv. again, that presentation this morning at 10:00 right behind me

34 in santa rosa this morning. chilly up there. as we set your futurecast in motion, look at the key and you can see the red is where we have the strongest winds. this morning the winds will be at their strongest. as we progress throughout the day, they will continue to lighten up. by tomorrow morning, calm conditions as high pressure moves in and really stabilizes our atmosphere. this is going to make for a quiet pat everyone where we warm up a little each day through friday, maxing out in the mid-70s rounding out the workweek, looking towards comfortable conditions for friday. we'll drop off saturday and sunday with an area of low pressure to our north. nice and comfortable. if you want those 70s, hold on for one more day. for today, we're talking about the mid-60s. 6 5 in sunnyvale. 62 in danville. take you across the bay. 63 in san francisco. and 67 degrees in santa rosa. a really nice rebound after you're starting out with temperatures 2 above freezing this morning. throughout the rest of the week, we hit that stride in the

75-degree range by friday. then we cool off just a little for the weekend. the active weather arrives late monday to tuesday. a pretty good-looking storm system on the way. we need that rain. we are still running a significant deficit, about 289% of normal in san jose. we'll talk more about that system that's on the way and what's to come after that. let's talk to mike about the drive. friends traveling through the trivalley, you won't be traveling quickly through livermore, 28-minute drive out of the altamont pass, bogging down all the way towards basically fortoe la avenue where the earlier accident has moved to the shoulder. we talked about it getting worse before it gets better because of the folks coming in. 27 miles per hour at the accident scene. that has loosened up a bit but jamming all the way towards north livermore avenue. many more folks might be dishing out of that before it makes a break. folks hiding through pleasanton and livermore as well.

we'll see 680 move smoothly. these taillights around the bend. sparsely populated, picking up the volume a bit. we'll join um with a match where we see 680 coming out of sonoma, 880 not a problem, but this cut-through, auto mall parkway, heading east towards 680 from 880, there's an accident off the freeway. so watch it. they have to clear that from the roadway. no lanes reported blocked but a lot of activity by the shopping center will be a distraction for folks. northbound through san jose, moving nicely. might have some crews southbound 17 towards the summit. that's typical roadwork, continuing project there. month major slowing. the peninsula, earlier roadwork, that has cleared up as well. south and northbound, both sides had crews that cleared over the last half hour. smooth to san francisco for the peninsula drive. the east bay approach to the bay bridge moving nicely as well. gusty conditions for all of your bay area bridges.

hold on tight. that might catch you as you're crossing over the water. 5:48. today, help is coming for a morbidly obese man in livermore. robert gibbs says he posted a video on youtube asking for help. it was a last resort to get help with his weight, which is estimated between 600 and 700 pounds. he told nbc bay area he didn't know what else to do and was afraid if he didn't act soon he wouldn't be alive. now it looks like the dr. phil show is answering his plea. gibbs says dr. phil will be at his home sometime today. well, this morning -- i'll take this one. this morning new charges of a man accused of posing as a plastic surgeon in san francisco. he'll be charged with more than a dozen new felonies on friday including sexual battery. he's been in jail since december when a woman who reported receiving liposuction from him was treated for serious infections. the district attorney's office has six new victims.

a ucla professor will be arraigned in connection with a lab assistant's death. the professor faces tellny charges after the 23-year-old assistant died during a lab fire back in 2008. investigators say the assistant was not properly trained or wearing protective gear. the university is also being charged for violating health and safety standards. if found guilty, the professor faces up to four years in prison. and ucla could pay millions in fines. jool your commute this afternoon could get disrupted by a big march and rally in support of abortion and contraception in san francisco. protests will target the office of the arch at 5:00. catholic leaders object to president obama's mandate requiring employers to provide contraception coverage. the compromise is in the works in washington. coming up, bullying. it happens every day on school

a high school student will personally deliver more than 200,000 signatures to the motion picture association of america in los angeles this morning. kitty butler wants them to lower the rating of anti-bullying documentary "bully" from "rx" to pg-13. she says she was bullied as a seventh-grader after coming out as a lesbian. she now wants people in her age group to be able so tee that film without having a parent sitting nearby. the film is set to be released in theaters on march 30th. a final settlement could be reached over secret video taken of michael jackson. mark geragos, his former attorney, will be at a los angeles courthouse along with private plane company extra jet. during a flight back in 2003, extra jet secretly videotaped jackson talking with his lawyers who urged he turn himself in on child molestation charges. ger goes filed a lawsuit which was later overturned.

the lead singer for guns n roses is suing over a video game. that lawsuit could be coming to a close. mandatory settlement conferences against activision blizzard this morning. rose says the company broke an agreement and used images of his gay give tar slash in the video game. he is suing the company for $20 million. stocks had the roughest trading in months yesterday. it was the worst day in 2012. right? >> worst day of the year. a number of issues facing the market, marla. a word of growth in europe. brazil, second most important economy in the americas. apple usually trades lower after a major announcement. but it, too, was hit hard yesterday, down almost 3%. so there may be some buying on the dip there. gas prices continue to fall no doubt to relief of the president, who fended off accusations from fox news at a
