summersville. it will remain closed until 5:00 a.m. sounds like things are on schedule. slowing as folks get back on the freeway. we don't have anything major for the rest through bay 20. >> lots of issues this morning. we start things off with a big mess in berkeley now. >> water bubbling up through the pavement in several spots. 7th and addison. today christie smith has the latest. how bad is it out there? >> reporter: good morning. i can tell you water has been pouring out of the streets here since 3:00 this morning. at the intersection of 7th and addison. i will pull the tape down so you can get a better look. it is coming from four mall holes in the street. water pouring down the street and down the gutters here on addison. what stands out is there is a section of the street right at the front of all of this where the road is lifting right up. maybe a five-foot long section. will is a utility worker out here trying to cap the line off

going in from power different streets. berkeley police tell me that he basically got three different sections shut down. he has one more to go before the water might stop flowing. exactly when that might happen, though, still unclear. he is here by himself doing the work. another manager just showed up to help him out a couple of minutes ago. tried to ask exactly how big the line is and how many homes or businesses might be affected. don't have an answer for you just yet. i do have calls, though, into east bay trying to get those answered for you. but what's happening is that the water -- it is not completely a gusher as you may have seen in other water main breaks. since we have been here, we got here 4:00 this morning, come back here live. you can see that the water is going right down the gutters in a steady stream. it is doing it in every direction from the intersection. we will keep an eye on it. if anything changes we will let you know. that's the latest. live in berkeley, christie smith, today in the bay.

there is a fight unfolding at city hall in one corner, sheriff ross mirkarimi from san francisco. his suspension begins today. he insists he is not going anywhere. the other corner, mayor ed lee. he wants mirkarimi out and suspended him yesterday. this the first step towards removing him from office permanently. mirkarimi pleading guilty to falsely imprisonment in a domestic abuse case involving his wife. he acknowledges concerns over his anger issues but says he's not guilty of official misconduct. >> i believe that i am still very able to be the sheriff of san francisco. and that -- it is just time, i do in the -- at this time do i not plan to resign. >> his actions and confession of guilt clearly. >> he appointed vickie hennessy

to take mirkarimi's place. here is a look at what's next for sheriff mirkarimi if mayor ed lee files the official misconduct charge today. the city's ethic commission will review the charge first and make a recommendation to the board of supervisors. that could happen as early as next week. without it take nine of the 11 members of the board of supervisors to remove sheriff mirkarimi. 4:35 right now. emotional plea this morning for from the mother of a missing 15-year-old morgan hill girl. sierra lemar has not been seen since leaving for school friday morning. the teen's cell phone was found in a field not far from her home. investigators, however, haven't found any clues in her cell phone or computer to indicate where she may be. last night more 00 family and friends held a candlelight vigil at the morgan hill presbyterian church. the mother changed the community for supporting the family and then she made her tearful plea. >> if you can hear me, how much

i love you and i want you back. i want you back. i love you and i just want you back. >> investigators say they have received numerous tips and possible sightings but so far nothing concrete has come up. officially they say she's missing but there is not enough evidence to say she was abducted or ran away. authorities looking for a burglary suspect tuesday as they tried to run down a sheriff's deputy. investigators say that this man is responsible for a series of locker burglaries at the fitness club. the club is located on alpine road just west of 280. had to jump out of the way as the man sped away from the club. driving a tan or salmon colored four-door nissan maxima or toyota camera. people that live in montclair district say police need to do a better job of patrolling their neighborhood and not just concentrating on high-crime areas. community meeting last night many expressed concern about a rash of burglaries in that area

last week. the 89-year-old woman was attacked in her montclair home and locked in her bathroom for hours while thieves just ransacked her place. the residents say that the focus on oakland's more violent neighbor hds is leaving them vulnerable. >> we all know that there is a lot more violence going on in different parties of the city. that doesn't mean somehow you shouldn't have police presence in all areas of oakland. >> i think it is something that we need. everybody has to be transparent about. if you are taking resources from one area to another, you have to tell us. if you are not, then you need to tell us that. we have a plan. >> some people already have taken security into their own hands by installing security cameras. ryan's family can move forward with their lawsuit against the dodgers. the family is suing the team for failing to provide adequate security the day he was beaten in the parking lot outside of dodger stadium last year. lawsuit has been on hold since

the dodgers declared bankruptcy. this week a judge agreeing to allow the lawsuit to move forward as soon as next month. it is 4:37 now. officials in alameda county dealing with major budget cuts and want residents to understand what's going on. a member of the board of supervisors will meet with community members tonight to talk about how looming budget cuts will affect residents. the oakland tribune reports the county has been hit hard by funding cuts programs like medical and adult daycare. alameda county officials hope by letting residents know what's at stake they will be able to come up with a solution. parents will rally today in support of several popular school principals who were demoted. school board members decided to remove seven principals earlier this month because of poor student performance. several top administrators also lost some of their duties. parents are wrup set. they were not told about the decision. they will attend tonight's school board meeting. it will be held at hayward city hall. meteorologist christine

commute coming up in a little bit. picking up. police in france dealing with a stand-off situation with a suspect wanted in connection to this week's deadly shooting at a jewish school. heavily armed police raiding a home this morning and they came under heavy fire from that suspect. total of three police officers were injured. officials say the suspect is a member of al qaeda and is a french citizen. now according to the french interior -- minister the suspect wanted revenge for palestinian children killed in the middle east. people in southern mexico cleaning up right now after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake damaged at least 800 homes. that shock was felt in mexico city where people were forced to rush out of buildings and try to get safely into the streets. a pedestrian bridge collapsed there. fortunately nobody was injured. that quake lasted about a minute and disrupted phone service and snarled up traffic. incredibly, no deaths have been reported.

good morning. >> good morning. futures are high they are morning. after markets took a breather tuesday. stocks fell on fresh concerns about a slowdown in china's economy. china raised fuel prices for the second time in less than six weeks. chinese demand for iron or could flatten out this year. investors took note of a surprise drop in new home construction last month and will get more housing data today. existing home sales this morning. dow fell 68 points to 13,170. mass dakota losing four to 3074. new ipad is hot literally. the tablet hit temperatures of 116 degrees after people played a video game for 45 minutes. that's about 13 degrees hotter than the ipad 2 under similar conditions. consumer reports has been investigating claims that the new ipad gets uncomfortably warm after the heavy use. but the watchdog group says it is not so blazing hot it warrants a recall. soda sales are fizzling.
