already on the 26th. >> good morning. thanks so much for joining us. christina says if you want to get out and enjoy, today's probably the best day. getting a little wet later on this week. this morning it's cold out there. skies have cleared, mostly clear conditions. as a result, 34 degrees. two degrees away from freezing up in santa rosa. we'll be tracking showers on the radar. so we'll time out the next system for you, let you know how long you'll have to carry that umbrella with you this week. i can tell you more than three out of the five days. first, though, let's check your drive with mike. >> all right, christina, we have a smooth start right now, at least. but we do have an accident to tell you about in the east bay. this is richmond parkway. it's between san pablo avenue and the east shore freeway. but i don't know if it's going to affect you heading to or from the freeway. just know it's on richmond parkway. i'll let you know if this

appears to be any problem for folks getting on to or off of interstate 80. but so far the east shore freeway itself moves smoothly to the bay bridge. a live look at oakland with the volume kicking in over the next half an hour, things changing as far as speeds go. but so far, no major accidents. that's good news. a wider look coming up. >> thank you, mike. new this morning, sunnyvale police looking into a deadly accident right now around 12:30 this morning near wild wood. we do know that at least one person has been reported dead. we'll keep you updated as more comes in. 6:02 right now. this morning, a man is in custody suspected of mass murder. police discovered five bodies in a home friday morning. "today in the bay" live with the details. police revealed at the news conference. >> reporter: good morning. laura, this morning this area is a crime scene this morning. two vehicles are here in front of 16 house street.

and there's also yellow crime scene tape around several of the adjacent homes. very much active here in south san francisco after friday's mass murder in front of san francisco city college. >> last night, police did announce an arrest for the murders. he's a san francisco resident and police say he knew the victims. investigators have not revealing much more information. they've first believed some of the victims suffered gun shots, now it appears they did not. all were killed by what police called blunt trauma. the family member made the gruesome discovery friday morning and called police. at first they believed there was no suspect that all the people involved in the killings were inside the home. then came the arrest of the san francisco man with a criminal history. and gang affiliation. >> we do have information we're following up that there could be prior gang ties involved in this situation.

although we don't believe this was gang-related. >> reporter: investigators are not revealing the motive for the killings. and won't say if they're looking for any more suspects. live in san francisco, "today in the bay." >> part of the investigation into the disappearance of sierra lamar is now headed to santa cruz county. "today in the bay" live in morgan hill with the latest developments. good morning, bob. >> reporter: yesterday around 4:00, someone called 911 to report they saw a teenage girl hitchhiking a long road in watsonville, which is in santa cruz county. this teenage girl possibly fitting sierra lamar's description. >> this person was wearing black, had more than one backpack on them and ended up hopping into a black pickup truck. the local sheriff's office is investigating but have not been able to confirm whether or not that was the 15-year-old girl who has been missing from morgan

hill for over a week now. yesterday, sierra lamar's parents attended prayer services and for the first time participated in an organized search for their daughter. >> it gets harder and harder, but we're hanging in there, you know. we're hopeful. we're not giving up. >> you know, my heart's racing, you know, and i have adrenaline, you know, i'm mentally exhausted, but i'm going on adrenaline, you know, because i want to find anything, any clue. so i can't, you know, just sit back, i have to get out there and try. >> tomorrow, the foundation will launch more volunteer searches. sierra was supposed to catch her school bus at this intersection a week ago friday morning when she disappeared. investigators have searched several miles around her home finding her cell phone and purse with clothes still inside.

but, funfortunately, there's ben no sign of sierra herself. reporting live, "today in the bay." there was a scary near abduction in the south bay. san jose police say a man armed with a stun gun tried to kidnap a teenage girl friday in the willow glen neighborhood. fortunately, she was able to escape. the suspect was last seen driving off in a red compact car with tinted windows. he's being described as a hispanic man in his 30s standing 5'7", weighing around 200 pounds. a muni driver is on leave this morning during the investigation of a deadly accident. a muni bus hit and killed a man just before 11:00 yesterday morning. witnesses say a man stepped out into traffic from between parked cars when he was hit and pinned under the bus. police have not released the victim's name. and b.a.r.t. police are searching for witnesses to a brutal attack earlier this month. he was found near the 7th and market street exit at san francisco's civic center station march 9th.

he was unconscious and bleeding from his head. the victim is still hospitalized in critical condition. investigators need help in piecing together what happened. it is 6:06 right now. a rave event with a deadly history returning to the bay area after two years. pop 2012 will be held at oakland east oracle arena this saturday. it's expected to draw about 12,000 people. promotors say they're committed to safety and will work very closely with police. lawmakers have been trying to ban this event and ones like it since 2012 when two people died of a drug overdose and a rave at the cal palace. 70 drug arrests were also made. it is 6:07 right now. a woman accused of embezzling more than $2 million from the giants will be sentenced today. robin o'connor is a former payroll manager for the team. she pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges. she diverted money meant for employees to her personal account. o'connor faces up to 20 years in

prison. the u.s. supreme court begins hearing arguments on president obama's health care reform law. people on both sides of this debate have been camping out to get a seat actually in that courthouse. the core of this case can congress force americans to pay for health care? 26 states are challenging the law, including georgia, the case won't be decided until june, but the white house right now very confident the court will rule in its favor. >> we'll be glad the republicans call this obama care. barred from making decision at this time, or does it have to wait until key provisions of health care reform go into effect in 2014? well, rick santorum's taking his presidential campaign to the supreme court steps. he's expected to use the opportunity to attack, of course, mitt romney. romney supported a massachusetts health care law. the obama administration provided it with its framework

for the federal law. mitt romney will be attending two private fundraisers here in california. the first in redwood city. rick santorum is also expected in the bay area at a fundraiser on thursday in alamo. 6:08 right now. we can tell you what's expected in our area. a dry day today, but christina loren tells us rain is set to come. >> not exactly chamber of commerce weather today. but hey, when you put it in perspective, we've got a lot of rain tuesday into wednesday. today, overall, looking like the driest in the extended period. it will not, however, be the warmest. we'll get your seven-day outlook coming up. temperatures are on the cold side. we're at 34 degrees in santa rosa, good morning to you there, 41 in livermore, and 41 in san jose. it all works out like this, by noon, you'll be able to peel off a layer. we're still talking about sweater weather at noon with 50s right by the water and inland. at 4:00 p.m., 63 degrees, inland, you'll be at 61 by the

bay, and 59 degrees a the the coast. not too bad, it'll be dry, vitamin d out of that sunshine today. as we head through tomorrow, this system starts to bring us our first shower. and tomorrow morning, we'll be tracking those showers on the radar. throughout the day today, though, you will notice changers indicative of that front getting closer and closer to us. windy conditions, we'll time it out for you coming up. my seven day in my next report. >> well, we have a new issue for the bay bridge on the incline. sounds like there's a rig, big rig that is stalled right now on the incline making your way up from the oakland side. into the treasure island area. blocking one lane, that means they probably are going to turn those metering lights on about 6:10, about this time they do that anyway. they slow things down so they can get a crew this. so far the impact not major for your maze, and we'll look over with a slowdown here. typical for the city limits.

care reform law is being heard. and it's a popular and intriguing scene that people camped out on the steps trying to get a good seat inside. more coming from d.c. in a little bit. it's 6:13. new this morning, another so called green on blue attack in afghanistan after two more nato soldiers are shot and killed. and now we're learning the gunman is also dead. "today in the bay" is following the story from our newsroom. marla joins us with the overnight developments. >> good morning. military officials coining that green on blue reference to describe when afghan security forces turn their guns on their international colleagues or mentors. and that's what has happened again today on the main nato base in the helmand province in southern afghanistan. a nato official confirming a man wearing an afghan army uniform opened fire on coalition troops. two british service members were killed. the gunman was then shot dead by international troops. now, so far this year, 15 nato service members including eight americans have been killed by afghan security officials or

militants disguised in uniform. president obama warning north korea this morning after learning it has moved a long-range rocket to its launch pad in preparation for a launch next month. the president just happened to be attending an international nuclear safety summit in seoul, south korea today and tomorrow. obama urging the north to "have the courage to pursue peace, otherwise face the consequences from the international community." south korea is warning it may shoot down that rocket. well, pope benedict xvi is wrapping up his final days in mexico. you can see him waving to massive crowds. next stop, cuba, he's scheduled to leave a little bit later today and there he'll meet with raul castro. >> making a lot of history. thank you very much. i want to check in with meteorologist christina loren. the rain coming again. we'll get a break today. >> we'll get a break today. thanks for waking up with us.

you don't need to bundle up the little ones except in the north bay. i'm talking about the scarves. you're very close to freezing up there. 41 in san jose and 44 degrees in livermore. we've got a lot of rain on the way as we head through this week. and our next storm is actually tracking closer to us right now. so indicative of that system getting closer, winds are picking up. as a result, it's a windchill factor this morning up in the north bay. 47 degrees in concord, 41 in livermore and 38 in fairfield, feels closer to the true temperature outside with those breezy conditions and you can see the winds are going to pick up throughout the day today. you can see the key, the high end, you get the reds, the oranges, that's going to start to pick up especially up in the north bay by about 6:00 p.m. tonight. increasing clouds, building breeze, comfortable conditions in places like morgan hill. you'll hit 65 degrees there, 62

get there and clear that rig. no updates from the bridge. but they usually try to maker very quick work. we'll see how big this rig is if it takes any extra equipment to get that off of the roadway, though. looking over here at richmond parkway. we have this roadway affected by an accident. some slowing past the scene between san pablo avenue and the east shore freeway but the freeway itself moves very smoothly. basically 19 minutes now coming off the bridge to that bay bridge toll plaza. on the peninsula, we have an accident here on southbound 101. as you're approaching university avenue, car went off of the roadway right near the off-ramp and sounds like it went maybefe. it's not on city streets, but it'll be a distraction through the area. keep that in mind, 101 moving smoothly throughout the area. and northbound 101 for the commute as well as 280 and 85 moving nicely. the deadly accident we tolded you about over in sunnyvale, off of wildwood up to haven wood,

that street is closed for that block. but wildwood connecting from lawrence over to mission college is open. let's end with a quick shot of 880. the volume of traffic picking up, but no drama for oakland, guys. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. quick-thinking firefighters are credited with helping evacuate a costco warehouse when toxic coolant started leaking. happened yesterday morning at the store on monument boulevard. authorities say a pipe ruptured releasing refrigerant into the air. luckily for shoppers, the concord based fire crew was shopping at the time and helped everyone get out. the building was ventilated and reopened hours later. the parents of an unarmed florida teen shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer speaking at a community meeting this morning. trayvon martin was killed in florida just one month ago today. the florida volunteer george zimmerman telling police he shot martin in self-defense. he at this point has not been

charged. nfl linebacker ray lewis and patrick ewing both expected to be at today's rally to show their support. church services across the country and right here in the bay area also sending strong messages of support for martin's family. people at the baptist church in oakland wore hooded sweatshirts in tribute of the teenager yesterday. police say zimmerman saw the teenager walking into a gated community wearing a dark hoodie and thought he looked suspicious. >> in the case, there is a misperception about young black men. and the problem is that it's okay if a black man dies. >> over the weekend, zimmerman's friends and lawyer came to his defense saying he suffered a broken nose and a gash on the back of his head in that encounter with martin. the wife of robert bales coming to her husband's defense today on the "today" show this

right off of highway 87. it starts today at 9:00 a.m. and runs through noon. volunteers, they'll be there simulating injured passengers. police, firefighters, and other emergency workers will test their skills at treating the injured as well as testing their communication systems and their procedures. spring training is winding down, but the games roll on for now. the giants play the royals at 1:05 today. yesterday they visited the white sox. giants struggled at the plate. they had one hit through the first seven innings. it was a rough outing. he gave up back-to-back home runs in the third inning. giants lost it 5-2. well, this morning, two senators calling for a federal investigation into exactly how much access employers can have to your facebook profile. narts chuck schumer of new york and richard blumenthal of connecticut say they're troubled by recent reports that employers are asking job applicants for

"today in the bay" is live in morgan hill, he has all the latest details. bob, good morning. >> good morning to you, john. sierra lamar's mom tells us it is getting harder and harder now it's been over a week since her 15-year-old daughter disappeared, but she's not giving up. yesterday, she along with sierra's dad participated in their first organized search for

their 15-year-old daughter. the lamars are finding lots of support not only from the community of morgan hill, but from people who know firsthand what it's like to have a loved one go missing. mark has offered his help. tomorrow his foundation will be launching several volunteer searches in this area. and michael lei whose sister michelle was murdered last year was here yesterday to offer his support to the family. >> no one expects this situation to happen to them, it just does. and so that's why people who have been through it, you just feel so much for them. you just can't -- if you find anything, it just tears you up. >> this morning we're getting a glimpse of the last-known photo of lamar. investigators believe the 15-year-old took that picture of herself before leaving her home a week ago friday morning. in it, she's wearing what investigators believe might be

the same shirt found in her purse abandoned a couple of miles away from her house. several miles from here, deputies in watsonville are looking into a reported sierra sighting. someone reported seeing a teenaged hitchhiker yesterday afternoon possibly fitting her description. so far, though, nothing has come of that sighting. reporting live here in morgan hill, bob redell, "today in the bay." there was a scary attempted kidnapping in the south bay. san jose police say a man armed with a stun gun tried to kidnap a teenage girl friday in the willow glen neighborhood, but she fortunately was able to escape. the suspect was last seen driving off in a red compact car with tinted windows. described as 5'7", and weighing about 200 pounds. one arrest but still many questions about the five bodies found inside a san francisco home. we now know the name of the suspect but not much more. "today in the bay" live in the engel side neighborhood where neighbors still very shaken.

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura, a san francisco police remains standing 24-hour guard in front of 16 house street in the engel side district. the homes around 16 house also covered by yellow tape. so this is actually still a crime scene after those murders on friday. police have arrested bing ty luke for those murders. however, they have not given a motive. a family member discovered the bludgeoned bodies here on friday morning and dialed 911. at first, police said it appeared at least two of the victims died of gun shots, now they say they died by blunt trauma meaning no gun may have been used. the police chief still contends that the community is not in danger, but the victims were targeted by the suspect, but they won't say why. they haven't released a motive. investigators have been on the case nonstop since friday and they're not done yet. >> the investigation continues, it is ongoing.

i want to continue to reassure the public that this incident was specific to 16 house street. >> reporter: police won't say if they expect more arrests, they also took in the suspect's brother on unrelated drug charges. they say that suspect has gang affiliations, however, they emphasize that this incident here is not gang-related. we're live in san francisco, "today in the bay." two fatal accidents being investigated this morning in san francisco. a man was hit last night. police say he was pinned under a car and then he died right there at the scene. no word on whether any charges will be filed. and a muni bus driver has been relieved of driving duties after a deadly crash. witnesses say a man stepped right out into traffic between parked cars yesterday morning. he was hit by the bus and pinned beneath it. he died later at the hospital.

6:35 right now, governor jerry brown's tax initiative seems to be gaining ground with voters. 64% of those surveyed say they supported the measure. the proposal would raise a state sales tax by .25% for the next four years. they would also raise taxes on incomes over $250,000 a year. governor brown aims to put the initiative on the november ballot. as far as the weather goes, looks like an uneventful day today. meteorologist christina loren says tuesday on, going to be kind of wet. >> yeah, an interesting set-up this week. good morning to you, it's cold out there, grab a jacket, taking a live look at downtown city hall here in san jose. you can see those clouds lingering from the storm system that came through over the weekend. we are sandwiched between systems. another one right on its heels, that arrives tonight and we start to get showers over the greater bay area. we meet back here tomorrow morning at about 6:00 a.m.

afternoon, we've got a lot of wind on the way. future cast tells a story. as you can see here, we stop the clock at 7:00 p.m. starting to get some pretty gusty winds. you look at the key, oranges and reds, yep, gusty winds developing indicative of that storm system that's going to move onshore as we wake up tomorrow morning. the highs today, in the 60s, we're going to lose that sunshine. it will be just a touch cooler tomorrow, as well. 58 degrees in richmond. stop the clock on your future cast at 6:00 a.m. you can see that front coming into the north bay, producing moderate showers, as you make your way home from work, light to moderate rain. showers will start to lighten up a little bit overnight wednesday and then we'll start to get a little bit of a break. but really talking about a wet pattern, really wet pattern through wednesday and thursday and friday, we'll get a little bit of a break, just lighter pesky showers as another system moves onshore. and that will mean we can warm up to the 60s. 67 degrees by thursday, almost

70 degrees on friday, a little bit of clearing on saturday, then we get a little bit of a cold blast down to 62, if you're trying to make weekend plans, already thinking about that weekend sunday is your day to do so. let's get you to work on time with mike. >> we are thinking about that, you're right, christina. this is a headache, the commute and the backup. at the toll plaza, it's been another issue. some sort of debris westbound. the latest report, there's also an ice chest scattered with stuff in the lanes, as well. that may be the whole cause or in addition to a car slowing off to the berkeley curve. potentially for 580 out of the maze. expect a slower drive right at the toll plaza itself. a 23-minute drive coming down off the bridge. holding steady for 15 from 238 up to the toll plaza itself. but 580 and the caster valley y shows speeds in the 30s. slow down on the east bay towards that san mateo bridge, as well.

over the water, we'll get a look at the san mateo bridge itself, the volume picking up westbound, but no problems for the flow. and you can even see that high-rise as you're coming off the peninsula side, a smoother drive so far. we'll look at the peninsula side and we have that accident southbound 101 right at university avenue. the car off the roadway into the fe fencing. it'll be a distraction, but no slowing southbound and northbound across the divide too far to see any major activity there. northbound through the south, we do see 101 slowing from 680, 87 and 280 showing slowing, keep that in mind. the volume's starting to build. overall, looking pretty good. sending it back to you. new this morning, sunnyvale police right now investigating a deadly overnight accident. we can tell you this all happened about 12:30 this morning near wildwood. at this point, we're still working on gathering information in details on how exactly this accident happened. what we can tell you is at least one person is dead.

no word yet on the name of that person killed or if anybody else was hurt. 6:48 right now. a man is in custody this morning suspected in one of san francisco's worst ever mass murders. police are still releasing very little information about the five victims except to say they were targeted. "today in the bay" is live at the home in san francisco where police are still guarding that house we understand. good morning. >> good morning. yeah, it remains a crime scene here. yellow tape surrounding several homes around 16 house street and the san francisco police officer has been here at the scene standing 24-hour guard because, again, it's still a crime scene. last night, police announced they arrested a man they say is responsible for the murders. he's out of san francisco. police say luke is a known gang member with a past criminal history, but they don't believe the murders were gang-related. investigators say the victims died of blunt trauma and not from gun shots as was initially

theorized. police have not revealed the motive and will not say if they are looking for any more suspects at this time. but they will say that the home and the family were targeted so the community at large is not in any danger. however, they won't say if they expect to make more arrests in the near future. someone over the weekend also stopped by to deliver some flowers here in front of the home on 16th house street. we're live in san francisco, "today in the bay." a little more than a week in for the search for morgan hill teen sierra lamar will fall into the hands of volunteers. the santa cruz sentinel. this person ended up hopping into a black pickup truck. the local sheriff's office is investigating, but have not been able to determine the fact that was the 15-year-old girl missing for over a week now. yesterday, sierra lamar's parents attended prayer services and for the first time participated in an organized search for their daughter. >> it gets harder and harder, but we're hanging in there. you know, we're hopeful. we're not giving up. >> you know, my heart's racing, you know, and i have adrenaline, you know, i'm mentally exhausted, but i just am going on adrenaline just because i want to find anything, any clue. so i can't just sit back. you know, i have to get out there and try. >> reporter: tomorrow the foundation will launch more volunteer searches. sierra was supposed to catch this school bus at the

intersection down from her home the friday morning when she disappeared. investigators have searched several miles around her home, finding her cell phone and the purse with her clothes inside. but there's still no sign of the 15-year-old girl. reporting live here in morgan hill, bob redell, "today in the bay." san jose police this morning looking for a man they say tried to kidnap a teenage girl in broad daylight. the girl telling officers she was walking in the willow glen neighborhood friday when a man with a stun gun tried to drag her into his car. fortunately she was able to escape. the suspect was last seen driving off in a red compact car with tinted windows being described as a hispanic man in his 30s standing 5'7" tall, weighing around 200 pounds. 6:52 right now. police are looking for witnesses to a brutal attack at a b.a.r.t. station. the man was found inside the civic center station march 9th. he was unconscious and bleeding from his head. he remains in critical

condition. investigators do not know what happened to the man but hoping someone who saw something will come forward. this morning, a has been is dead after being pinned under a car on a busy san francisco street. officers say the man was hit just before 9:00 last night. officers say the man died on impact. at this point, police have not released the man's name, but they say he appears to be in his 40s. a rave with a deadly history returning to the bay area after a two-year hiatus. pop 2012 will be held at oakland's oracle arena come this saturday. it's expected to draw about 12,000 people there. promotors say they are committed at this point to safety and will work very closely with police. lawmakers, well, they've been trying to ban this event since 2010 when two people died after taking the drug ecstasy. a total of 70 drug arrests were also made. a woman accused of

embezzling more than $2 million from the giants will be sentenced today. robin o'connell pled guilty to a wire fraud charge. she diverted money meant for employees to her personal account. o'connor faces up to 20 years in prison. laura, there are new allegations of double-dipping by some san jose police officers. the audit of the police department's outside pay job program finding some officers actually double billed, that means getting paid by the city and secondary employers at the same time. officers also working security jobs while they were on paid sick or disability leave. the city council is set to look into this audit later this month. and new this morning, ben bernanke says the u.s. job market is not all that strong despite more and more hires. virginia. he told the crowd the u.s. job market remains weak despite three months of strong hiring. he says the federal reserve's existing policies will help boost growth. this suggests interest rates will stay near zero unless the economy substantially improves. well, two more nato soldiers have been shot and killed by a man wearing an afghan army uniform in southern afghanistan today happened on the main nato base in the helmand province. the soldiers were british. the gunman was then shot by international troops. this comes two weeks after robert bales allegedly went on that shooting ram pain near his base in afghanistan. this morning, the "new york times" is reporting bales is now being charged with murder for the death of an unborn baby. originally officials saying he shot and killed 16 people. well, that increased by one last week when the 38-year-old was formally charged with 17 counts of murder on friday.
