good morning, everyone. it's just about 4:31 in the morning. >> lots to get to this morning. let's check that forecast. good morning. >> good morning to you. it's one of those mornings you want to make sure to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. they are slated to intensify as we head throughout the day today. and we're talking about the potential for inches of rain even right here on the valley floor. so we're going to let you know how much we're expecting in your city, when we will get a little bit of a break and then when our next round moves in because there's more rain in that seven-day forecast. mike has a stall that could slow you down this morning. >> yeah, and everybody stalls getting to work. the bay bridge, the upper deck getting to treasure island. the volume of traffic very light. the headlights traveling to the right side of your screen. somewhere along the span,

someone's having trouble getting off of the roadway. no major injuries. camera shakes a little here. as well as for our oakland camera. and that means there is some wind gusting around the area. there you go, the camera shakes, light volume of traffic right now. we'll talk about construction in the next report. back to you. >> thank you, mike. this morning, you can help in the effort to find sierra lamar. a large volunteer search effort starts out this morning. >> live in morgan hill where teens will start heading out in a couple of hours. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you laura and john. this is where they've set up what they're calling the find sierra center. we're at burnett elementary school here in morgan hill. in a few hours from now as you were mentioning, organizers will be coordinating the volunteer search efforts from the center to try to find sierra louisiaale 15-year-old girl missing for 11 days now. this effort taking place this morning throughout the week, on top of what law enforcement has been doing. the sheriff's office says they have more than 40 investigators

now assigned to this case, looking over more than 350 tips that have come in, including possible sightings. unfortunately, nothing has panned out so far. they have also coordinated a search of the 12-mile area surrounding the lamar home. they have found her cell phone and her purse with clothes inside, but no sierra. starting this morning, volunteers are under guidance of law enforcement, will be divided into groups of 12 or so to canvas specific areas. >> each one of the search assignments typically lasts between two and three hours. they'll spread out, fan out through that area and begin doing a line search. >> if you're interested in helping out in the search for sierra lamar, you can come here to burnett elementary here in morgan hill. you want to get here around 8:00. the searches will be running from 8:00 to 1:00 every day through sunday. you need to be at least 18 years old, bring a photo i.d., dress appropriately, long pants,

sturdy shoes, that sort of thing. and the foundation is asking for donations of bottled water and office supplies. you might recall it was founded by mark klaas whose daughter was kidnapped back in 1993 and murdered. bob redell, "today in the bay." family members will hold a funeral tomorrow in gilroy for a brother, sister, and mother who died in a tragic murder/suicide. investigators say abel gutierrez killed his 53-year-old mother martha and 11-year-old sister before committing suicide. martha's body was found in a rural area of hollister last thursday. 27-year-old abel gutierrez was an iraq war veteran who family members say showed signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. tomorrow's funeral will be open to the public. it is going to be held at st. marys catholic church in gilroy. the man accused of killing five people inside a san francisco home should have been deported six years ago.

immigration authorities say they tried to deport bin ty, but the country would not accept him. this all happened while luck was on probation for robbing a san jose restaurant. police have not released a motive for the killings in san francisco's engel side neighborhood. but police say luk did know his victims. well, two people recovering from stab wounds after being attacked near the occupy sf camp. just before midnight, fire crews responding to 101 market street where a person had been stabbed in the neck. that is right in front of the federal building bank, the reserve bank. the victim was rushed to the hospital and police say the suspect is about 5'11" with a thin build between 30 and 40 years old. just 24 hours earlier, a 28-year-old man was critically injured when he was stabbed at the same encampment. the suspect in that case was not part of the occupy group, but he'd just been visiting that camp before. police have not said if the two

stabbings are related. it is 4:35. lending voices for the nationwide call for justice in the shooting of trayvon martin. a rally for the teen began with a prayer. parents there said the death of martin has struck a chord. zimmerman told police he followed martin because he looked suspicious. parents say it's opened up a dialogue on how their children and grandchildren dress. >> you have to be aware of your surroundings. you have to be aware. take your hood off when you go in certain places. you know, be mindful and respectful of others. >> zimmerman has not been arrested for the shooting. in the meantime, trayvon's parents met with city leaders in samford. new allegations coming out on both sides of the case. friends of george zimmerman say martin actually initiated the confrontation breaking zimmerman's nose.

and officials have confirmed that martin had been suspended from school after a baggy with marijuana residue was found in his backpack. council members kaplan and brunner will join homeowners and others at a meeting to finance this situation today at noon. they want oakland to move the city money out of the large institutions into community banks and into credit unions. the push is in response to the involvement of some of those banks in the mortgage crisis. san mateo county facing another budget deficit this year. the county's proposed budget is already $28 million short on revenue. the county relying on $20 million in new revenue from tax measures that will be on the ballot in june as well as no cuts in state funding. but if either plan fails here, the county could be in deeper trouble. the county will vote on a final budget in the fall. the radar showing green this morning, john.

christina's got a look at the rain coming our way. >> good morning to you. it's coming downright now. let's get right to that radar and show you where to take it easy this morning as the rain showers have just started over the past few hours. we're seeing heavy downpours in some areas. getting a little bit of that yellow and orange already this morning. keep that in mind. as we head throughout the morning hours, we'll continue to see the showers stream onshore. livermore had patches pass through. that means 580 is nice and slick this morning. we're going to continue to see these showers. it all works out like this. the area of low pressure is going to move onshore. as it does so, it's going to bring heavy rain throughout the day today. and that means for us, you're going to want to keep that umbrella handy. also concerned about the potential for flooding and a few showers in the forecast for tomorrow, as well. another system moves onshore as we head into this weekend. i'll let you know how much rain we're expecting. keep in mind, you want to leave

extra time this morning. mike has something that could slow you down. >> good morning, again, christina. we do have that truck reported on deck. we got word they called off the bridge crew, that means that truck was able to get off the roadway without assistance. great flow of traffic. the lower deck, the construction crews might be there. we do see a little slowing coming down the incline. wind advisory because of gusts from time to time. that could be the situation in many spots. we'll get a live look at the san mateo bridge. a parallel bridge to the south. the camera shakes, there you go for the tremble, but no big issues from chp. watch that high-rise. getting out to 680, the range may have the peaks with gusty conditions there, as well. but construction, that's way we're looking at here north of the dublin interchange. no major slowing. folks there are used to that project that continues up past alcosta. and the rain having hit 580,

d.c. day two before the supreme court hearings for the health care reform law. we will fill you in on details throughout the day. it is 4:43. in fact, they're trying to determine if that health care law is even legal. today the court will consider the issue at the heart of the case whether the government can force you to buy health insurance. supporters say it is the only way to make sure everyone is covered, but opponents say the government is overstepping its bounds. >> if the federal government can force people to buy health insurance and can force the states to set up health care exchanges, then there are no limits on what they can force individuals to do. >> no one should ever be told they have cancer and they should be quiet and go home and die. >> presidential candidate rick santorum showed up at court yesterday and used the opportunity to criticize mitt romney for a similar health care plan he created as governor of massachusetts. in the meantime, romney spent yesterday on the west coast,

including a stop here in the bay area. romney made a quick fund-raising swing through the bay area. tickets for last night's private event in redwood city cost supporters anywhere from 1,000 to $25,000. union members and occupy redwood city protested outside. >> we know you're supporting because you want fewer taxes and mitt has said the poor are just fine. i'm not worried about them. meg whitman hosted the private event. tonight, romney is scheduled to appear on nbc's "tonight show" with jay leno. good news heading into the spring home-buying season, for that and more before the bell, we turn to courtney reagan. good morning, courtney. >> hi, good morning to you, john. well, futures are higher this morning, but we've lost some steam. the markets will look to build on yesterday's rally. we saw stocks jump on comments from chairman ben bernanke. he says the fed remains committed to keep interest rates low to support the economy and

could do more if necessary. helped erase the losses in a single session. we get data on home prices and consumer confidence. the dow posted 160-point gain monday, the nasdaq closed up 54 points to close at 3,122, the highest close since november 13th of 2000. well, the federal trade commission is pushing internet companies to adopt a do not track system that would give consumers more control over how their personal data is used online. the ftc is also urging congress to pass legislation to provide people with access to info compiled by data brokers who then sell it to marketers. the ftc doesn't have the power to write new rules, but it can be enforcement actions against companies that violate privacy policies. and bmw is recalling 1.3 million vehicles worldwide to fix a potentially fatal battery cable in the trunk. the cable could become loose, overheat, and possibly start a

fire. but to put this in perspective, bmw says they've only received one report in the u.s. about 350,000 vehicles were sold in this country. the recall affects the five and six series, model year 2004 to 2010. john, back to you. >> cnbc's courtney reagan, thank you very much. at least one person has died in one of up to a dozen wildfires across colorado. the flames consumed a handful of homes in jefferson county just west of denver monday night. fire quickly grew to more than 3,000 acres. according to the sheriff's office, 128 homes have been evacua evacuated. other fires burning further west in the northern part of the state. dry, windy weather making battling those blazes even more difficult. >> that is scary. it is 4:47 right now. dry not our problem out here. christina loren says the rain is flowing in. >> which is good news for the

drought woes. we've got a nice, nice rainy pattern all week long just about. we're going to see those showers. and today looks like the biggest washout of the week. so keep that in mind. if you do want to get outdoors, you're going to have better options as we head through tomorrow and the remainder. and even this weekend looks better that today. winds out of the east/southeast, and these winds are going to strengthen throughout the day today as they storm system moves onshore. right now, it's just starting to push onshore, and take a look at where the bulk of the moisture is headed. but we are pinpointing pretty significant shower activities, especially in the east bay, look at that cell that passed through livermore. nice and wet now the 685/80 intersection. you want to take it easy where those two highways come together. low pressure moves onshore today, and that's going to bring about blustery conditions. the rain will intensify, the winds will pick up throughout the day today. by tomorrow, we're talking about a showery pattern, but still not
