act now, act now! like he said... ♪ i'm john kelly. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. a man has been shot and killed. >> what can you tell us at this point? >> reporter: good morning to you. i can tell you there's a very heavy police presence here on main street. i'm going to step aside so you can see what's going on. one city block completely shot down. police telling us they got a call at 2:30 this morning of a deceased person out here. they found an adult male victim. they are treating this as a homicide, but not a lot of

details as to how the person died. there was a security guard out here earlier saying there was a body on the sidewalk earlier, not the street. police immediately blocked off the area. the medical examiner is here. got on scene very quickly. i do have additional calls into the san francisco police spokesperson. as soon as i have information, i will bring that to you. but once again, this area is shut down here at main and bryant. we're waiting for a spokesperson to come out and give us an update. but an adult male victim. they are treating this as a homicide. i'm christy smith, today in the bay. >> all right. thank you. it's 4:31. because it is friday, i don't care what the weather is like. but let's see any way. >> you might care later on if

uncovered new details. could this be the break we've been waiting for? >> good morning to you, john. investigators with the sheriffs office don't know yet, but these items have certainly piqued their interest. a volunteer with the search effort made this discovery yesterday afternoon in a field at the end of palm avenue about a mile away from the lamar home. this person came across two used condoms and a few feet away from those, an empty card board box labeled with the word handcuffs. it appears the box was used to ship the cuffs. there's no indication that the items are related to the disappearance, but they have collected them as possible evidence and sent them off to a lab for dna testing. the results are due back within a week. to give you an idea of where )q @(t&háhp &hc& sierra lamar home, she was supposed to catch her bus two

weeks ago down the street at palm. this field is at the end of palm avenue where it dead ends to a rural location. these are the only items of interest to show up in several days since she disappeared. the saturday and sunday following her disappearance, they found her cell and purse with her clothes neatly folded inside. >> we're getting a look at the command coast. dozens of investigators and staff members work around the clock on this case. they are using ipads in the field to track every step of the search and to look up addresses in that area. there's also a tip line. the e-mail address on your screen. we have also put that on our website at nbcbayarea.com. all you have to do is search sierra. police are investigating a sexual assault in an east bay high school campus. it happened at 2:30 yesterday

afternoon. a girl fgs sexually assaulted in one of the bathrooms. police investigating a shooting that left a man dead. officers arriving at the intersection of sacramento and oregon streets at 7:30 last night. they found a man lying on the street with a gunshot wound. police say it may have originate with a conflict involving two groups of people at a nearby store. they expect a confrontation led to gunfire. police have arrested one person but they are looking for others. it marks the third homicide of 2012. pop 2012 will be held at oakland's arena tomorrow. a crowd of 12,000 is expected. promotors say they are committed to safety and will work with police.

lawmakers have been working to ban the event since 2010 when two people died from drug overdoses. police also made 70 drug arrests. a fundraiser will mark the anniversary of the beating of brian stow. he's living in a rehab center and needs around the clock care. his family will mark the anniversary by joining hundreds of people at a walk for thought event in san jose tomorrow. organizers hope to raise $50,000 for the brain injury association of california. the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. at almaden lake park. >> there are several events planned today in support of trayvon martin. he's the teen who was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer last month. public outrage and rallies have

focused on the fact the man who killed the unarmed teen has not been arrested or charged. there will be a marge at 14th and broadway at 4:00 p.m. then noon in san francisco, religious leaders will be holding a news conference. a decision by california's highest court may put dozens of lawsuits against the roman catholic church in jeopardy. they rejected the lawsuit by six brothers against the diocese of oakland. the plaintiffs claim their priests abuse ed them in the 1970s. they concluded the men took too long to sue. the brothers argued they only discovered in 2006 that the alleged abuse was the cause of their psychological problems as adults. the ruling is expected to affect other cases. police are asking parents to be vigilant as they look for a

man who grabbed a child. police say he lunged at a 9-year-old girl around 8:45 yesterday morning at bob elementary school in miramonte. the girl was able to get away. police are asking you to report anyone suspicious. fremont school district says it might have to cut school bus services in anticipation of the funding cut from the state. cutting school bus service would affect 800 students who rely on the bus to get them to school and to get home. the district is helping parents try to figure out alternatives. >> there are resources that are available. car pools, ways that we can help connect parents. we have pretty good service from transit. and we have to look at every

landed the plane is being praised for staying calm. jason downs wife spoke about the incident and says her husband does not consider himself a hero. >> he thinks the heroes are his flight crew and the passengers that helped the captain. he doesn't like being called a hero. he just thinks everything on that plane was the real hero. >> he safely landed the plane while passengers restrained the unruly captain. the flight made an emergency landing in texas. we continue following decision 2012 this morning. republican presidential candidates have their eyes on wisconsin just five days before the next wave of primaries. mitt romney up by eight points in the latest polls. wisconsin, maryland, and washington, d.c. all holding primaries on tuesday.

some say this could be the last chance for rick santorum and newt gingrich to prove their campaigns can survive. >> rick santorum hoping to keep his campaign alive. he had a promise to business. he got a sweet greeting from the jelly belly factory. he described them as the conservative heartland. he says if he becomes president, he will slash taxes on such business from 35% to 0. michelle obama is in the bay area raising money for her husband's reelection campaign. she will hold a fundraising event in golden gate park. tickets will run between $500 and $5,000 to attend. the first lady will travel to alameda to commission a new

coast guard vessel. indications of a strong finish for wall street. for that, we turn it over to jackie deangelis. >> good morning, jon. the futures are higher this morning after stocks were mixed yesterday. they closed well. the markets had dropped early on as reports were showing that new filings for unemployment fell shy of forecast last week and the u.s. economy didn't grow more than previously thought in the fourth quarter. in the u.s. we'll get data on consumer sentiment. we saw the dow rise 19 points yesterday to 13,145. it's on pace for the best first quarter in 14 years. the the nasdaq losing 9 points. google is mounting another challenge to apple. the "wall street journal" reporting that the company plans to open an online store to sell tablets directly to consumers.

they will offer devices from samsung and others that use their android operating software. google previously sold a smart phone directly to consumers back in 2010. they closed the store just after four months. and the maker of black berry continues to struggle. . they are reporting a loss as it shifts fewer devices than expected. their new ceo launching a major review. for now he's refocusing efforts on business customers to more appealing smart phones. back over to you. >> okay. thank you. apparently people are getting healed of the crack berry fever. we have a look at the forecast. >> you made it to friday. thanks for waking up with us. we have a good-looking forecast for today. if you're looking for warm temperatures, it's going to be dreary out there. overcast conditions. increasing cloud cover throughout the day. we're starting out nice and mild

this morning in the south bay. in the mid-50s right now. because of the high pressure, still control of our forecast, we're going to see temperatures in the 70s today. really comfortable day today. as you can see now, we have light showers moving through. that will be the case throughout the morning. but we're looking good for the second half of the day. that's prefrontal precipitation. that arrives later tonight right at the coast at 7:00 p.m. so you might be able to make it home through your evening commute without getting through any showers, but we're expecting them to intensify. the bulk of the moisture will come through tomorrow morning. still one of the days to make the indoor plans. it works out like this. we have a steady stream of moisture. we could be talking about the potential for flooding. we have been telling you about the deficit we're running. 50% of average in terms of rainfall. we're going to make up a lot of

that. we have another one on the way for next week. that could create a rainy pattern at the end of next week. so far spring has been active. it looks to stay that way. 67 degrees by noon. inland 69 degrees by 4:00 p.m. mostly cloudy conditions. if you want to get outdoors, we'll see a few showers early sunday. mostly cloudy start. then the clouds will progressively clear out as we head throughout the day. looking good first three days of spring break should be okay. and then the rain arrives late wednesday into thursday. >> don't rain on my parade. take a look at this. airlines have reason to fear the beard. virgin america unveiled a design for the giants theme. >> it looks like a mustache. >> virgin also offering a contest. people who tweet photos of the plane can win a free ticket or a
