you're looking live at the scene of an apparent homicide in san francisco at main and harrison streets. san francisco police have been at the scene for several hours. christie smith is there live. she has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: good morning. we have been keeping an eye on this. i just saw homicide investigators walking up and down the street looking for potential witnesses. they just spoke with a man who had been sleeping on the street trying to see if he had any information. what we know, police not releasing a lot of details, but what they are telling us is at 2:30 this morning on main street near bryant right under the bay

bridge, they got a call of a body on the street. they came out here and told me they are investigating this as a homicide. they have not said how this person died or whether he was shot. i did speak with a worker who was of the here this morning. he said he didn't hear any gunfire at all. only the response from police. now the medical examiner just left with the victim after having been here for several hours. there were reports earlier that this might have involved a pg&e worker because there were pg&e trucks behind the crime tape, but i spoke with them this morning, and they are telling me that the victim is not a worker. of course, san francisco police asking anyone who might have heard or saw anything suspicious to give them a call. christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you. in the meantime, that investigation and affecting the morning commute. >> we're looking at the map here. this is the san francisco side

of the bay bridge. underneath the elevated skyway, main street is closed between harrison and bryant. harrison is open. but that will close underneath the bridge. take one block in either direction. and one block past that it main street section as well. this will be an issue for surface street traffic, but you can get on to and off of the bridge. let me take you to a live shot. i will update you for the next report. i want to tell you about this. the car at the bottom of your screen and behind the fender, it went off the roadway and hit that pole in the area. wierps are down and repair work is going on, but the latest update is that this roadway in one direction will be closed because of the accident until 5:00. he says the person driving this car was taken to the hospital after registering a 2.6 blood

street at 7:30 last night. they say the man was apparently shot as he and friends left a nearby store. they were involved in some kind of confrontation. somebody in the group started shooting. police have arrested one person, but they are looking for others in this. this is the city's third homicide of 2012. san francisco police have arrested a man suspect ed of stabbing an occupy protester. the suspect returned to the camp in front of the federal reserve building yesterday. protesters recognized him and held him until police arrived. the man is suspected of stabbing one of the occupiers sunday night leaving him in critical condition. there was a second stabbing the next night, but no arrests have been made in that case. two weeks after sierra lamar disappeared, investigators uncovered new clues. bob redell is live in morgan hill. bob, i guess we're wondering. could this be the break everybody has been waiting for?

>> reporter: investigators don't know what's been found. good morning to you. they found two used condoms and an empty box used to ship handcuffs. they found these items yesterday at the end of palm avenue in a field. the card board box which is used for shipping was labeled "stainless steel handcuffs." the condoms were a few feet away. there's no indication this is related to sierra's disappearance, but because they were found so close to the home, the sheriffs office collected them as evidence. we put this map together for you to show you where the field is in relation to the home. she was supposed to catch her bus at palm. this field is at the end of palm where it dead ends. it's very rural. according to the sheriffs

as we head over to the maps, we're looking at a couple issues for the upper deck. there's a stall that's reported somewhere around fifth as you're getting off into the city. and then at treasure island, the off ramp, there may be an accident in just a few minutes. they didn't sound too concerned, but anything across the bay is an issue. let's get back to your maps. we're looking at the 17-minute drive westbound. that's your commute direction. things have smoothed out. you notice it's much more green than the last time we saw. 50s throughout the entire area coming into livermore. heading out of the area, this is what we're concerned with. folks should start to build up. spring break for a lot of folks next week. bring the chains. we're looking to the south bay. a smooth drive northbound. not a concern. no incidents for san jose.

11-year-old girl was cleaning a lake when she spotted two canvas bags. inside those bags was a cachet of jewelry, coins and silver candle stix. about 10 pounds worth. police confiscated the loot in hopes of returning the items to their it rightful owners. the sharks have signed a bay area kid to an entry level contract. the team signed matt tenison. he learned to play in the junior sharks program. pretty cool. living a lot of the dreams of those kids. the 21-year-old just finished his junior season out of western michigan. >> when you're old like me, 21 is a kid. the stan form women's basketball team getting ready to take on baylor on sunday night. the winner goes to the ncaa championship. baylor the favorite because of

support services disappeared earlier this month. they contained the private records of 800,000 californians. the device has vanished while being shipped between colorado and california. ibm was returning them after testing whether it could run the support services remotely. the department is recommending people affected by the breach to take steps to protect their identity. a new independent investigation into apple's overseas contract factory finds employees work too many hours. but scott mcgrew says they do it because they want the cash. >> good morning. apple said it tries to discourage employees from working so many hours trying to up their pay. so the owner of the factory is going to try a different strategy. raising pay without increasing hours. now this is by my count the third major raise for assembly line workers in the past year or so. it's been estimated it costs apple $8 in labor to make a

tape that had been up here all night. but two homicide inspectors keep coming and going. we saw them question a man sleeping in a tent across the street from where the victim was found. police say they got a call of a body on main street near bryant and harrison. this is right under the bay bridge. they are investigating this as a homicide but have not said how the man died. we did have a chance to walk closer to the crime scene. there is broken close nearby on the ground. there were reports that this could have been a pg&e worker involved. there was a pg&e truck near where the victim was found, but i had a chance to speak with pg&e this morning and they say the victim does not work for them. police are asking anyone who saw anything to give them a call. christie smith, today in the bay. also new this morning, police investigating a homicide

disappearance, police are asking parents to be vigilant after a man tried to grab a young girl. the suspect is a white male in his 50s with gray hair wearing a polo shirt and jeans. he lunged at a 9-year-old girl yesterday morning at bub elementary school. the girl was returning from class from the restroom and was fortunately able to just run away. police now asking people to report anybody they have seen suspicious loitering around schools. it's 6:36 right now. the date for a showdown between the san francisco sheriff and mayor ed lee is set. a judge is set to hear the challenge of his suspension april 18th. the sheriff's lawyer filed court papers saying the suspension is a denial of his right to due process. they also say a public official

cannot be removed for misconduct unless the crime occurred while they were in office. and he was not yet sworn in. he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment to settle a domestic abuse case involving his wife. with 24 hours until the mavericks window officially closes, some downer news for surfers. the competition will not happen again this year. organizers say the right conditions just never came together here, but they are still planning on putting on a big time party. tomorrow they are holding a festival in half-moon bay with live bands and surfing videos and food and then an awards show. the plan is to hold the festival each year whether or not that competition actually happens. let's see what the forecast will hold for the weekend. checking in with meteorologist christina loren. >> we'll have some pretty large swells this w7bd rksz but clearly not enough. the criteria does not fit.

throughout the day today, the swells will start to increase. we're talking about some pretty large swells tomorrow as the storm moves on shore. we'll get a nice, dry break. temperatures will had climb into the 70s. high pressure still in control. the further south you live, the warmer it will be for you. the warmest conditions down in the south bay. the most sunshine to start you out. 69 by 4:00 p.m. by the water, not too shabby. 63 degrees in san francisco as you break for lunch. you'll hold on to that temperature at 4:00 p.m. we are expecting the showers to start dropping over the bay and the coast at 4:00. it looks like the bulk of the moisture arrives later on. 5:00 a.m. friday, start to get a little dicey in the north bay at that point. not great news for your evening commute home. by 9:00 p.m., starting to get that steady rain right at the coastline. we'll time it out in my next report. i'll let you know when we get a break from the rain. we have another system on the

of the house budget committee paul2r[an planning to endorse romney some time today. that's good news and good timing because the wisconsin primary is tuesday. today in the bay's tracie potts live in washington. she has all the latest on that race and the two other primaries happening next week. good morning. >> reporter: that's right. maryland and washington, d.c. they both vote. but wisconsin is going to be the focus. it is the biggest of the delegates and most competitive. you were talking about ryan. he actually already released a statement now saying romney is the best man for the job. he's also trying to contact rick santorum but hasn't been able to yet to talk to him about this. romney has spent almost $750,000. that's on top of his political action committee money. newt gingrich, this is going to be a tough one for him according to one of his own backers.

said he didn't hear any gunfire. police got a call of a body on main street at 2:30 this morning and they are treating it like a homicide. this was right under the bay bridge. we have seen them interview potential witnesses including a few homeless people. police have not released any suspect information. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, today in the bay. the man accuse of killing five people in san francisco will not be represented by the public defenders office. that's because a judge says it could be a conflict of interest for the office to represent ben thai look because he previously represented his brother in another case. he manned up a as witness in his brother's murder trial. he was appointed another attorney and is due back in court next week. san francisco police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing an occupy protesters. the suspect returned to the camp in front of the federal reserve

building on market street yesterday. protesters recognized him and held him until police arrived. they say he was the man who stabbed one of their fellow protesters sunday night leaving him with critical injuries. there was a second stabbing at the same camp the next night, but no arrests have been made in that case. peninsula police are looking for this man in connection with a stabbing near the menlo park station on monday. a man was approached by two men and he was robbed and stabbed. he is recovering, but the two men took off. two weeks after sierra lamar disappeared, investigators uncovering a couple possible clues. bob redell is live with more on what's been found. what do you have out there? >> reporter: good morning. two used condoms and an empty box used to ship handcuffs. a volunteer with the search effort here in morgan hill found

the items yesterday afternoon in a field all the the end of palm avenue. that's a mile away from the home. the card board box, which is used for shipping, was labeled with the words "stainless steel handcuffs." the condoms were a few feet away. investigators say there's no indication right now as to whether or not this is related to sierra's disappearance, but because they were found so close to her home, the sheriffs office did collect them as evidence. results are due back within a week. we put this map together to give you an idea of where this field is. sierra was supposed to catch her bus two weeks ago this morning. the field is at the end of palm where it dead ends. it's a very rural location. it's a place where young people congregate. >> at times you see cars parked down there at night. they frequent the road quite a bit. >> reporter: that was a neighbor who lives in that area.
