i'm jon kelley. time to check in with rob mayeda. >> not bad if you like winter-like weather. cold again this morning. temperatures in the 30s in a few spots around the bay area. so you will want the winter coat as you head outside. especially fairfield and north bay valley. we did have some rain overnight. most of that moved on you about still some wet roadways in a few spots from the rain that did fall earlier. day planner today, talking mostly 50s for high. partly cloudy and breezy. the wind, i this, could be a bit of an issue for the morning drive. >> take note of what rob said about the wind. we are looking at the bay bridge. we are looking at the camera shaking. wind gusts over the mountain peak and across bay. they all have the warnings. oakland, we don't see the cameras shaking. we see it often when the east

bay gets heaviest gusts. we will track this. commute relatively light right now. >> thank you. this morning several bay area families making funeral arrangements as we learn more about the seven victims of monday's shooting rampage in an oakland college. christie smith is live at that crime scene at oikos university in oakland. a really tough morning for a long list of families out there. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning to you. flowers are now outside of oikos university. they weren't here yesterday. i just took a closer look and the notes are written here this morning in several languages for the seven people killed in one of the worst shootings in california history. family and friends came out to a memorial at the baptist church. a huge crowd, including oakland mayor gene kwan. they came from all over the world. six women, one man. their lives cut short by a former student, one goh who they believe was upset for being

expelled and angry with students who he believed didn't like him. among the youngest victims, 23-year-old grace kim studying to be a nurse. 24-year-old ping. a teacher there says it will be hard to ever go back. >> i don't want to go back. it is so sad. it is very tragic. very painful. she's my very, very close friend and now she's gone. everything there will remind me of her. >> now i mentioned two of the victims. the list includes 21-year-old lydia sim, cathleen kim, grace kim, mattea, judith seymour. i checked the university's website this morning. there are condolences there to the families. it is also mentioned that classes are completely canceled until further notice. investigators expected to be out

here a little later to continue processing the scene. we are also expecting because the tape seems to be moved back a little bit the crime scene tape, probably more family and friends and even strangers will be out here today leaving flowers for the victims. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." police divers are search east bay waterway looking for the suspect's gun. bob redell joins us live in oakland with the difficult job dive teams are facing. good morning. >> reporter: yes. difficult because the water isn't clear out here. good morning to you, laura. also they don't have an exact location of the gun. police were out here late last night searching the shoreline of the oakland estuary looking for the .45 caliber that they believe goh tossed in the water. goh has been cooperative in interviews except white comes to pinpointing the exact location of where he allegedly ditched

his weapon. but other investigative leads point to this area just off the martin luther king jr. center where we are at right now. law enforcement has been using a remote control sonar robot and have police boats and divers to perform the search of what we understand is a 09 by 57 foot grid. law enforce many doesn't believe finding the gun is a make or break in their case against one goh. >> it is not critical but it is important piece and we will -- most important thing is that we want to protect the public and having a firearm somewhere in our community is something we want to make sure we locate. we want to remove it from wherever it is. >> reporter: right now goh is at the jail in dublin. later today, he is expected to be brought here to oakland for his court appearance in 2:00 the to be rain order multiple charges including several -- seven murders.

goh bought his gun legally and planned the shooting at oikos university several weeks in advance. the rampage was so fast law enforce many doesn't think his victims had any chance to surrender or resist. now outside pinpointing the location of his gun, police say he has been very cooperative in interviews but not particularly remorseful. roaring live in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." evacuation has ended this morning after a gas leak in san jose that was caused by a car crash. police say that a driver lost control. slamming into a home last night. the collision also damaged the home's gas meter causing a leak there. three homes were evacuated for about two hours while pg&e made repairs. one person suffered minor injuries. another step this morning in the case against a suspected bay area mass murderer. jo he will appear in court today to set a trial date.

prosecutors say he allegedly killed four northern california women between 1977 and 1994. nasso, representing himself in the case, but he has had an adviser to help prepare for the trial. major changes in the works for bay area fire departments. santa rosa city leaders approved a new labor agreement requiring firefighters to pay more towards their pension. and future hires will receive fewer benefits. the changes are projected to save the city $788,000 next year. that's about 20% of the city's current general fund. it is to save $1.7 million per year in a decade. hiring insurance costs may be coming for north bay residents. fema is working on a new floodplain map for low lying areas of ross valley and mill valley. once those studies are completed, thousands of homeowners who live in the flood zone will more than likely be facing an increase in their flood insurance rates. the new maps are scheduled to to be complete by late summer.

dozen people facing charges in santa rosa this morning in connection with a multistate marijuana trafficking ring. investigators seized $280,000 along with 39 pounds of pot. they say it was produced in sonoma county but aimed for new york and for boston. the investigation uncovered at least three pot growing and sales operations all part of a very large distribution network. the decksives are searching right now for more suspects. meantime, marijuana advocates demanding the federal government back off on the crackdown of medical marijuana dispensaries. a rally and march in san francisco's city hall yesterday focussing on what organizers call the government's intimidation of legitimate cannabis club. the rally was planned before monday's raid. advocates say the raids have only served to unite cannabis supporters. >> i think the important thing we are looking at is this might have galvanized the response from our whole community to say

who is next. >> it remains closed now as the school continues to clean up from that raid. the federal search warrants have been sealed and there's still no information being released about what agents were specifically after. damage sailing yacht to the bay area this week could soon return to the around the world race. repairs are under way on the 68-foot boat. it was battered by large waves and strong winds. hundreds of miles off the california coast overing the weekend. the coast card cutter was dispatched to go to rescue several injured crew members. the crew hopes to set sail later this month. 5:09 now. meteorologist rob mayeda is here. >> we are going on a roller coaster ride of temperatures this week. we did get into the upper 60s in a few spots yesterday. but this morning we have had much cooler air sweep on in. case in point, the temperatures outside, 30s. and low 40s from most of the bay

area this morning. we will probably see the numbers drop another five degrees or so before sunrise. you see 39 in fairfeed. 40s around okay land and san francisco. 49 in san jose. crisp, cool start. windchill, too. we got winds picking up out of the northwest. we will see more of that for the afternoon. now as you very overnight you might not have heard it because the rain was still light. we did have light rain pass through the bay area. mostly off to the east. the radar for now is dry. as you can see as we show you on the satellite radar view we have some moisture that will try to creep into the bay area later on this afternoon. and i think for the north bay we will see isolated showers in the coastal hills and some cool temperature here as we go through your wednesday's forecast. no upper 60s today. low 60s around san jose towards gilroy. upper 50s around the tri valley. temperatures even cooler on the coast and it is going to feel chilly as the wind coming in off the water, only 54 degrees in pacifica. now through friday, stay fairly cool. here is the good news. the weekend forecast we are going to see things warming up

and we hope those showers on sunday stay north to keep the forecast excellent for your sunday. monday and tuesday, few more showers coming our way. >> all right. we are looking at the highway 4 with construction over there. that should be completely cleared in a pew minutes. left side wind advisory for the venecia bridge. first signs of the bay area commute. right around 60 miles per hour. that will clang by 5:30. 14-minimum drive for 580 westbound. that will change by 5:30. wind is the issue this morning for a lot of the bay area spots. coming over the dublin bridge as well as the hills and cass traffic valley, you will get caught with gusts likely over the morning and cass traffic valley or heading to the san mateo bridge now. the brigitte self on the right, sign lit up, talking about highway advisory for this span.

welcome back and good morning on this wednesday morning. we want to thank everybody in master control for a beautiful shot. this one over san francisco as well. you can see the flag planning in the wind. gorgeous lights lighting up the city. rob mayeda along in a bit. >> rescuers search to plan the dallas area again today for anyone trapped after several violent tornadoes touched down. take a look at this incredible video. it was shot by news chopper yesterday as it follows the tornado. you can actually see the center of your screen. tractor trailer just sucked up and tossed like toys. businesses and homes flattened. massive tornadoes bore down in arlington and lancaster just south of dallas. at least 650 homes were smashed or destroyed with the owners left in shock.

>> ridiculous. may whole house gone. >> my wife could have been in the bedroom and as you see it is gone. my son could have been upstairs in his room. that room is gone. >> the national weather service will be in the area today surveying the damage. thousands are still without power. but amazingly, so far there are no reports of death or serious injury. hard to believe. >> yeah. you don't know if it is great planning in the warning system they have or luck or both but it is amazing. >> it is a very dense area. >> it is. went through a very populated area. the weather pattern that all came together there over dallas-ft. worth, i want on show you that. we could some air traffic delays on the west coast. all the damage of dallas-ft. worth. more than 100 planes damaged by large hail. here is the pattern. warm moisture searching in off the gulf coast, cold low off to the west. wind shear getting stronger super cells to rotate. that was a mess in dallas-ft.

worth. they are doing a survey and will very likely confirm that they had more than a dozen tornadoes there yesterday. now the severe weather threat will move towards the southeast. here nothing severe about our weather. just little chilly outside today. you are bogey to see breezy conditions, temperatures mostly in the 50s. and a few showers possess especially in the north bay coastal hills as we head through the afternoon. breezy wrought side. you will notice around some of our hilltops in addition to the very chilly starts and thurts and low 40s this morning. after we did have some rain go on by. cooler air behind that frontal system now as rushing into the ball area. and that's going to open up the sunshine to a cool afternoon and see high mostly in the 50s. offshore we have some moisture that will try to drop over the bay area that may give us an isolated shower here or there. even the futurecast really not painting a picture of green on the map except in some of the hilltop areas in the north and east bay. you see that there around 1:00. they will be watching that. not widespread. but maybe hilltop showers here and there. as we head through the evening, it is going to be cool tonight.

a lot of 30s around the area as we wake up tomorrow morning. during the day today, close to 60 in san jose. probably one of the warmer spots we will see. upper 50s around the tri valley and you can see the numbers here on the coast. only in the mid 50s today. we are going to stay cool here at least through friday. pretty good timing as we get into your weekend forecast. we are going to see things warming up. saturday now looks to be the warmest day. as we head towards sunday, north bay, might see some afternoon showers around santa rosa drive for the rest of the bay area and cooler again early next week. >> we will take folks out to the south bay. construction crews on the move. 880. no more problemins getting on t freeway. one issue as far as those road crews go. they will be clearing over the next half hour. the rest of the south bay looking really nice. highway 17, that will clear up. we will track it. no incidents here. south bay. across the bay we have a couple of issues for the dunbarton bridge. wind advisories issued by chp overnight gusty conditions

lower today. following a disappointing bond option in spain. here in the u.s., we are getting data this morning on jobs. tracking the private sector and news on the nation's services sector. dow fall nearly 65 points yesterday to 13,199. nasdaq losing six points. meantime, apartment vacancies have dropped the lowest level in more than a decade. a new report out also shows that rent posted their biggest judgment in four years this winter. nation bide rentter averaging about $1,070 a month. still cheaper to own versus representing due to the fact mortgage rates and high inventory are keeping people out of the market. many people still shut out as i just said. nearly half of the homeowners with the mortgage are either in foreclosure, behind on their payment or under water. owing more on their loans than their home is worth. burger king set to become a public company again. private owners of the fast food giant are selling part of the

may be the day. >> we could know in a matter of minutes whether new yahoo ceo scott thompson will cut at least 2,000 people. maybe more from the could. thompson, under enormous amount of pressure to get yahoo straight, that means pressure is causing him to make some very unpopular decisions. including last minute lawsuit against facebook over patents and a word about patents as we wait for the layoff news. engineers will tell you software patents are nonsense. pretty much anyone can get a patent for pretty much anything. so when a company like yahoo uses patent lawsuits as a weapon a sign of company. facebook fired back against yahoo with its own set of paten claims. most industry watchers think this caught yahoo off guard. yahoo expected facebook to roll over and pay money which is not going -- it is not going to do.

to search for the weapon used in monday's shooting rampage at an east bay college. bob redell joins us live in oakland this morning with an update on the search. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. couple of miles away from the scene of monday's rampage. late last night police teams were out here searching the waters, trying to find the .45 caliber. investigators say that goh has been cooperative in interviews except when it comes to pin pointing the exact location where he allegedly ditched his weapon. but other investigative leads point to this area where we are at right now. just off the martin luther king jr. regional shoreline center. law enforcement use ad remote control sonar, police boat ask divers for a certain much of a 90 by 75-foot grid. not easy considering the conditions out here.

>> there is absolutely no visibility whether you are here in the sunlight or in the dark once you get on the water, zero visibility. so you are doing it all by your hands and your feet. >> reporter: one goh is at the jail in dublin. later today expected to be brought to oakland for his first court appearance at 2:00. to be arraigned on multiple charges including seven murders. he bought his gun legally and planned the shooting at oikos unicef ral weeks -- university. a secretary and six students were killed. three more people injured. goh had been upset with the school it expelled him from the nursing program because they say of his alleged behavioral problems. police say he's angry with students who teased him about his poor english. he is a native south korean. outside of pinpointing the exact location of the weapon, police say he has been very cooperative

hundreds of family and friends. even strangers filled the baptist church last night in oakland to remember them. their lives cut so short in the shooting rampage at oikos university monday. police believe the shooter was an angry former student, one goh. at the vigil there were prayers and a plea from the oakland mayor. >> we reach out for those in anger and that we move and rise together and fulfill the dreams these young immigrants had. >> reporter: one instructor at the university said she was supposed to be working that fateful monday morning. but she was told to teach at night. she said the tragedy will make it so hard to ever come back here. everything, she says, will remind her of her friend. meantime later today, crime scene technicians are expected to be back here. still processing the scene. no word on how long that might take.

yammer offered yahoo workers $25,000 to leave yahoo and come to work for them. this is sad news but it is not unexpected and lots of yahoo workers or former workers have already left in anticipation. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. 5:36. demands for justice seen today at a bay area rally to honor the life of march kin luther king jr. san francisco bridge of the naacp staging the event at the footsteps of san francisco city hall today. organizers occupy the dream rally to call for justice in the trayvon martin shooting as well as the fatal shooting of 21-year-old richardson who was killed on monday near the soy's panhandle neighborhood. the rally starts at 11:30 later this morning. it is very reminiscent of that scene last november at uc davis. this time around police pepper spraying dozens of students at a college rally in southern

california. >> this is cell phone video showing about 200 students there just banging and chanting at santa monica college board of trustees meeting the last night. students there are very upset over cost of summer courses. about 30 students were treated for minor injuries suffered. the school already agreeing to cover any and all medical expenses. time to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> ten degrees cooler in most place this morning. clearing skies after rain overnight. we are talking 30s if you are waking up and joining us from fairfield this morning and napa and santa rosa dropping to 40. and upper 40s around san francisco, oakland, san jose. other item we are watch when it comes to your morning drive, across the mid span of the san mateo and bay bridges, richmond, will be gusty winds. not too bad ground level. higher up in the hilltops and higher up on the bridges, you will see breezy conditions.

right now most of the rain is actually moving on. we are seeing a few sprinkles here and there. right around the top of the santa cruz mountains and perhaps here around 101 and 280 south of san mateo now. but really what we are seeing is cooler blustery conditions with moisture offshore that will drift into the north bay so it will be the north bay hilltop that may see an isolated hour or two along with cool temperatures as we go through the day. look at the numbers past lunch time into the afternoon. mostly 50s today. this cooldown is going to stick with us at least through provide and as we get towards the weekend, saturday should be the warmest day. it will be staying mild through sunday and more rain due in as we head towards tuesday. >> all right. let's take you to the roadways across the bay. we will get a look outside with the live look at san rafael shot. picking up volume. there is glow to the lights, moisture possibly in the air. rob talked about overnight rain. you may find slick spots. north bay not reporting any problems.

cool start. >> yes. you will want a nice winter coat not just for the morning but you will be fine with a coat for the afternoon. a look at not just the temperatures outside now but by the afternoon, we are going to be run being ten degrees cooler than yesterday. it is cold this morning. we have upper 30s, around fairfield, 40 near napa. santa rosa this morning. some of the weather headlines will be temperatures mainly in the 50s today. we had a couple of days in the upper 60s. not the case today. breezy also to the north bay. you may see a slight chance of scattered shower or two. weekend, though, still looks good. we are expecting warmup to come starting saturday. radar view shows you the rain that went through overnight. if you have wet roads, where you live this morning, it was some light rain that came on through. as you can see here on the radar right now, not a lot showing up. i think as we go through the afternoon we will get a little more moisture moving over the bay area with partly cloudy skies. and that may fire up scatter shower around the north bay hilltops. or maybe around the peninsula and coastal range, santa cruz mountains. be watching that for the afternoon.

the futurecast really doesn't show much other than those few showers there and also towards the east bay hills. you may see a shower or two this afternoon. and then things will certainly be cool as we take a look at your afternoon temperatures today. no upper 60s. close to 60 around san jose today. and as you get into the tri valley looking at upper 50s to 60. even cooler to get over to is an plan and coast. highs today mainly mid 50s. and a very breezy wednesday. three-day forecast now through friday looks cool. then as we get towards the weekend, you may think this forecast is cool because we have temperatures getting close to 70 again on saturday. and easter sunday still looks good to keep people hopping around the bay area. things looking dry for now. >> all right. very nice. 580, nice easy drive. 16 minutes. slowing coming up to about here. we notice a little blip. there is now a disabled vehicle reported around spring town. should be moving to the shoulder but causing unusual slowdown for this time.

are rental available in other cities all over the world. but no doubt those cities are watching san francisco's tax decision. speaking of the city and technology, "the new york times" recently ran an article critical of mayor ed lee's very, very close relationship with techology. and angel investor ron conway in particular. pointing out, for instance, the mayor fought against that air b&b tax and the company is a big investor. conway rather is a big investor in air b&b and big supporter of the mayor. now to be fair, the mayor in detroit probably supports the car industry. the mayor of los angeles probably has a special place in his heart important the movie industry. wall street waiting on word from yahoo after the company may announce thousands of job cuts today. there is no material effect on stocks after a yahoo announcement but it is something to watch for. the fed said it was unlikely to create any more stimulus and that had stocks down yesterday.
