good friday morning, everybody. literally good friday. it's 4:30 right now. i'm john kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. good morning. >> good morning to you. yeah, it is a good friday morning. we don't have any fog to report, crystal clear conditions and a clear shot of that full moon overhead. it is cold up in the north bay, frost advisory has been issued. keep that in mind this morning. you might find some frost, especially over your local bridges and overpasses. i've got your forecast coming up, 4:31 first, check your drive. mike has an issue in the north bay. >> it is not related to frost or slick roadways. northbound 101 as you're approaching actually the 37 interchange reports of a two-car accident, the update just came in from chp, it's actually a single car that hit and killed a deer. there is slowing approaching the

scene. as they try to push the car from the roadway and figure out if there are any lanes that are still blocked right now. there is slowing approaching highway 37 at northbound and construction north of there. but the slowing on highway 37, well, we'll watch that, that should clear up shortly, it's probably just a blip. relatively light volume, guys. the rest of the bay coming up. >> thank you very much, mike. a somber remembrance this morning for the victims of the killing spree at oikos university. >> the members of making oakland better are at the midpoint of a 24-hour vigil. "today in the bay" is live in oakland with the latest. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you. it seems like people in oakland want to help any way they can. and as you said, members of making oakland better are out here right by the coliseum on 66th avenue. what they're doing is they've got candles out and collecting cards and flowers and other things for the victims and they plan to deliver what they collect next week to the

university. now, this happens just as students and staff and family of those victims were allowed back into oikos university to collect their things just yesterday. the first time back since monday's deadly shooting rampage that left seven people dead, three injured. moments before that happened, a group formed a small prayer circle outside. the shooting suspect, a former student has been charged, but didn't enter a plea this week. police haven't said when they'll be down to allow them to officially reopen. but just being there last night was hard to take. >> i'm just filled with sadness. you can hear how sad some people are feeling right now. >> now, police are also now investigating the possibility that the gunman had multiple targets in mind, not just one administra administrator. it's also now believed he was doing all right in the nursing program but left on his own in

november. but he was mad he didn't get a full refund on his tuition and felt like his class mates just didn't like him. again, what's going on out here, we've got candles out. and later today around noon, they're going to have a board so people can sign it, that sort of thing and they're doing this to coincide with the a's home opener. saying they'll have this board out through the entire game. they'll go ahead and deliver it next week to the school. that's the latest from here, reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> pretty impressive. today marks three weeks since 15-year-old sierra lamar was last seen. her mother says she last saw the high school sophomore march 16th before she was leaving to catch the bus. sierra never made it to school. since then, hundreds of volunteers have helped search for her. the sheriff's office says it has received more than 1,000 tips, but still no sign of sierra. another volunteer search is set for tomorrow morning at 8:00

a.m. search and rescue crews have been out in big sur for several days searching for a missing hiker. separated from a friend while walking on tuesday. crews from monterey, marin, and contra costa counties searching the river where some of the belongings were found. a man recovering after being rescued from these rocks near ocean beach in san francisco. the swimmer got stranded on the rocks below the cliff house restaurant. diners noticed him and the staff contacted the coast guard. park service and fire department swimmers were able to reach the man and used long boards to help bring him on into shore. it is 4:35 right now. this morning, suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is due back in court. last month, mirkarimi pleaded guilty to false imprisonment in the domestic violence case involving his wife. it was part of a deal with prosecutors that included

probation, community service, and counseling. mirkarimi is still fighting to get his job back after the mayor suspended him at the conclusion of the case. the bicyclist who hit a pedestrian in the castro district could end up facing manslaughter charges. 71-year-old suu kyi died on wednesday. but prosecutors say that same day chris bucheri admitted in an online post that he sped into a crowded crosswalk. he wrote about dedicating his late helmet saying, "it died in a heroic fashion." determined to stop the use and spread of nuclear weapons, dozens of prosecutors -- or protesters are marking an annual good friday protest against the lab's weapons role organized by the peace institute and the

livermore conversion project. in the past, protesters have blocked the entrance to the lab. and last year, 33 people were arrested. well, the head of the u.s. nuclear regulatory commission will tour the nuclear plant today. that plant located in southern california's been closed for two months now because of a small amount of radioactive steam released from a leaking tube. it will remain closed while investigators look into exactly why those tubes are failing. authorities scrambling to find additional power sources just in case that plant ends up being closed through the summer when energy is in high demand. a republican presidential hopeful draws big crowd at u.c. berkeley. it isn't a protest, it's a crowd of ron paul supporters. to accommodate the huge number of people, organizers had to move the event outside. paul talked about changing foreign policy, reining in the deficit and restoring civil liberties. supporters say his policies make sense. >> bringing all of our troops home.

welcome back, everybody on this friday morning. we give you the golden gate bridge in san francisco. i like doing that, one, two, three, four -- maybe two back there. six, seven, eight -- we can count it because it's so smooth out there. it won't be like that all day long. christina will talk about the weather, it's 4:44. ron paul says young voters do not want any more wars. he sat down for an interview with nbc bay area's brent cannon to offer his take on what voters are looking for in a presidential candidate. >> because of this civil liberty issue is personal liberty and anti-war, and republicans, i think, are digging a hole for themselves. they complain about obama not fighting enough wars. they want to be more engaged, and young people don't want the wars to continue nor to pay for them. so i think the only way you can appeal to a broader base is to change the message a little bit. >> why is it you resinate so

well with this younger group of people? >> the most common answer, i guess, is you're the only one telling the truth. yeah, but they say the same thing. well, we don't believe them. there's this attitude that i'm trying to tell them exactly what's wrong and what can be done even though i have a dire message about how bad things are. the students, young and with open minds come away being very optimistic because they at least say you're telling us the truth and you give us the things we can do and how we can change things. personal liberty, mind your own business, take care of yourself, make your own decisions. they don't like the wars that are going on. they don't like the idea of inheriting this debt. >> paul says he's not giving up on the republican nomination and he may take his campaign all the way to the national convention. well, there could be good news about the economy coming later on this morning. the march jobs report is out today and it's expected to show more than 200,000 new jobs created last month. nbc bay area's tracie potts in

washington this morning with the latest. >> reporter: even though the unemployment rate may remain steady at 8.3%, today's labor department report is expected to show 203,000 new hires in march. >> if we're growing jobs, private sector jobs at a couple hundred thousand a month, that's good. we need to do more. >> reporter: a third of employers added full-time workers this year, the highest since the recession began. >> that's strong enough for people to feel better about the job market, the availability of employment, but not strong enough to start to raise wages. >> reporter: experts expect most of the new jobs came from private companies. this week, the number of americans seeking unemployment hit its lowest level in four years as president obama signed a new jobs bill that will help start-up companies get more money and other businesses go public. >> and that's a big deal because going public is a major step toward expanding and hiring more

workers. >> today we find out just how many more got paychecks last month. >> we're not going to go to weather or traffic just yet, but i will tell you about an important documentary about bullying. it will be available to some children after all. the motion picture association of america initially gave the film "bully" an r-rating because of cursing and violence. but complaints that children who needed to see the film wouldn't be able to prompted film makers to reedit parts. yesterday the mpaa reassigned it a pg-13 rating. hopefully that'll make a difference. how cool is this? from the golden gate to the great wall. teaming up with a band from beijing for a performance like no other. headed over to the rose parade. today in the bay tells us about the big-time honor for valley christian high school. >> well, this is a huge deal. performing in the rose parade. that's very special. and the valley christian high school band is mentally and

physically preparing for new year's day. but the band did something really nice and invited another band from mainland china to march with them in the rose parade. valley christian is -- and if you're wondering about the language barrier, no worries. they speak the only language that matters, music. >> but to be able to then create relationship with some young people that share the bond of music on the other side of the world, i think makes it even that much more special. >> reporter: now, the marching band will be in beijing for eight days. there'll be one final group rehearsal and then it's show time, the rose parade on new year's day. >> a lot of egg hunters. and the good news is, it should remain dry for your celebrations. as we head throughout the second half of sunday, we are expecting a little bit of shower activity in the north bay and it will be light. i think we're going to get a lot of sunshine as we head into easter sunday. this good friday, looking good, as well, 34 degrees in napa, leave the umbrella at home today, and we're in the 40s down in the south bay, we're at 42 degrees. high pressure now in control. but still have a lot of that cold air left over from the cold front that came through earlier this week. today will be warmer than we were yesterday. tomorrow, even warner. we're talking about the 70s inland, especially right by the beach too in santa cruz. you might hit 69 degrees. it's going to be a nice day to get outdoors and hopefully you have the day off, 63 in fremont and 64 degrees in redwood city. the next couple of days, you can see, we're going to peak when it comes to warmth on saturday and sunday cooling down by a couple of degrees staying nice and mild for your easter celebrations.
