mentioned the chance for rain moving in on monday. i'll be back in a bit to detail how much rain and the timing of it all coming up in a bit. >> that's very important. thank you very much, anthony. new this morning, volunteers and search crews are preparing to resume the search for morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. the high school softmore vanished on march 16th. the family will announce a reward for information on her disappearance. police expanded their search to gilroy on thursday. the family is welcoming anyone who wants to help in the search. if you are interested you can sign up at burnett elementary school on tilton road in morgan hill. search crews will start heading out at 8:00 this morning. a silent tribute spoke volumes just two miles from the scene of that mass murder at oikos university. the oakland coliseum came to a standstill. meanwhile, one of the victims will be buried today.

last night a fremont church overflowed with mourners to remember her. today in the bay's cheryl hurd was there. >> reporter: tonight a's game began with a moment of silence to remember the shooting at oikos university. as thousands remembered the tragedy at the coliseum -- ♪ >> reporter: hundreds filled new life church in fremont to attend the funeral of one of the victims, grace kim. >> she was awesome. she was the best friend in the world, and i couldn't ask for more. >> reporter: kim dreamed of becoming a nurse. and despite her busy schedule, her friends say she always made time for others. >> to all of us, she was a breath of life, often needed in times of trouble and weakness. we are grateful to you, lord, for bringing grace into our lives. >> she was beautiful. and every time she looked at you

and you would tell her she was beautiful, she would say, no, i'm gorgeous. >> reporter: the 23-year-old nursing student's life was cut short monday when police say former student one goh walked onto the campus and opened fire on former classmates. seven people killed, three others injured. all of the victims were remembered with a song on the campus steps this afternoon. but for friends and family of grace kim, she will always be remembered as the girl who was full of life with a beautiful smile. she will be missed. >> whoever knew her would also agree to live life to the fullest. >> i love you, grace. >> grace kim will be buried in hayward today. school leaders say classes will not resume until at least april 16th. oakland police did find the 45-caliber weapon used to kill grace and six others. the handgun was discovered yesterdayless than a mile from

daughterses. a man leapt from a second-story window to escape a house fire in san jose. the entire apartment building was evacuated in the 3000 block of payton avenue near 7:00 last night. the fire went to three alarms and a neighbor who jumped out of the second-floor window to escape was fortunately not hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. the search for survivors continues this morning at an apartment building in virginia where a navy f-18 fighter jet crashed. three people at the complex are unaccounted for. seven people including the pilots were taken to the hospital but their injuries are not life-threatening. the crash happened yesterday when the jet malfunctioned just after takeoff from naval air station in virginia. witnesses describe what they saw and heard. >> we were outside today and then we saw the pilot jumping from the plane. and then boom, there was an explosion. >> authorities say they are lucky nobody was killed given that the area is so densely

populated. the navy launched a full-blown investigation. and new this morning, patriot missiles rolled into the heart of tokyo today. japan is deploying its land-based defenses ahead of north korea's planned missile launch. last week japan also began the deployment of ground-based we are september or thes to the southern okinawa prefecture. north korea is expected to launch the rocket in the direction between april 12th and 16th. north korea says the goal of the launch is to send a weather satellite into space but southee california and the u.s. believe it is actually a ballistic missile test. also new this morning, check out amateur video reportedly showing the aftermath of an attack on a syrian city by forces local to the government. reuters got this video that shows buildings damaged by gunfire. at least 27 syrian soldiers, rebels and civilians were killed yesterday according to opposition activists. a cease-fire deadline brokered by international envoy kofi

richard lee is resigning at president at oaksterdam university to face looming charges over pot. they raided his home and business this week. as jean elle reports, the future of this candidate's trade school is now uncertain. >> it is very scary. the penalties are very harsh and there's a lot of sacrifice going on because there are a lot of people being busted and prosecuted. >> reporter: after 22 years of fighting to legalize marijuana, richard lee is facing the consequences. a federal crackdown.

agents raided five properties linked to oaksterdam university on monday. the irs says the search warrant remains sealed. lee's future hangs in the balance. >> i'm hoping and praying nobody gets prosecuted. >> reporter: the raid uprooted oaksterdam university. lee sea says he's stepping down and new operators are taking over. right now most classes are canceled or not yet scheduled. while violating federal law, lee says he was operating within state law and has the blessing of oakland city leaders paying a $60,000 business license fee and thousands more in taxes. he doesn't know what triggered the raid but has a theory. >> maybe it's payback for prop 19. the irs first started auditing me in 2010 doing the prop 19 campaign. >> reporter: prop 19 proved to be a divisive campaign within the california medical marijuana community. lee says he does his best to work with critics. >> you can't please everybody. so you try to write initiatives

good morning to you. looking live at the coliseum there in oakland. a dry start in case you're headed out for an easter egg hunt. i think it will be okay. anthony slaughter has more on the forecast. how are you doing? i'm doing all right. we are looking at dry conditions across the bay area. whatever you are doing easter-related or not, you're in for a treat. we are talking about 60s and 70s across the board. and yes, that even includes those coastal areas that typically remain a bit cooler. so a very nice way to enjoy the weekend, especially with all the rain we have had each and every weekend here across the bay area. look at the satellite and radar picture right now. not much happening. we are basically distracting a few clouds across the north bay. these clouds are just going to continue to roll through and they are not rain-making clouds, so you don't have anything to worry about as far as any rain today. it is cold though, so you

definitely want to bundle up. 36 in santa rosa. san mateo at 39. sunnyvale, 38 degrees. even cold in san jose at 30. we have a little bit of a wind and it is just about to give us a little bit of a windchill. in fact, it feels like 37 in san jose. feels like freezing in santa rosa. so really a very cold start here on this saturday with a little bit of patchy fog, especially in the north bay. that's the trend all week long. this afternoon, 60s and 70s across the board. so very nice. in fact, this is one of the warmest days we have seen over really the past couple of weeks. easter sunday looks to remain mild with a slight chance for a north bay shower. and it is all because of this system offshore. you can see the spin with that area of low pressure. that's going to continue to make its way across the bay area as we head through this weekend. you can see it is already brushing in a few clouds to the north bay. and really that's all we are expecting for today. now tomorrow as this system gets a little bit closer in the north bay, really from novato and points northward, you could see a stray shower tomorrow evening.

but it looks like tomorrow during the day you'll be dry across the board. so again, a mild weekend expected. but a very frosty start here in the morning. as far as the rain goes, this is what we are tracking. today we are dry across the board, but you'll notice tomorrow. those clouds do thicken up a little bit across the north bay. and this is around 5:00 tomorrow evening. so we may see a spot shower again tomorrow after about 5:00 across the north bay. heading into monday, that's where we have the better chance for rain, especially from santa rosa over to napa. look what happens on monday night. showers really start to pull in to the picture. we are not just talking about the light rain. you can so the yellow activity up near santa rosa and napa. we can see moderate shower activity pulling in by monday night and tuesday. then from that point on it will be a wet week, so dust off the umbrellas. enjoy today. 71 in san jose. 69 in santa cruz. 69 in free month. 68 later on in castro valley. even in san francisco you'll be at 64. a little cooler in pacifica and half-moon bay, but not too bad,

news. so the forecast will hold for easter, and you might be wondering where can i get my hands on an easter egg? there are kite quite a few events, many of them free. a huge community in the event san mateo hopping off at 9:00 this morning. that's happening at central park. in mountain view on grant road, an egg hunt for kids starts at 10:00 this morning. and in san francisco, the spring extravaganza runs from1:00 to 3:00. there's an egg hunt, carnival rides, rib cookoff and also food for sale. the cost there is $8 per person and it is at sharon meadow park. in berkeley there's a bunny visit and egg hunts from 10:00 to 1:00 at hillegass avenue. admission is $5. after those easter events head on over to golden gate park for another big celebration. the golden gate jubilee will celebrate its 75th anniversary of the construction of the

tobacco policy. the city council is debating on whether to ban smoking in front of movie theaters, atms and restaurants. george kiriyama has the details. >> reporter: you see the cigarette in someone's hand in front of a san jose restaurant may soon become a thing of the past. it is clear smoker john stowe does not like the proposed changes in the smoke ban ordinance to make it el legal to light up in front of a restaurant or cafe. the new ordinance is trying to eliminate smoking in outdoor areas where people gather to eat. >> i think that sitting outside smoking is, you know, who is it going to hurt, you know? if you don't want to go to the bar because they have smoking outside, don't go. >> reporter: but smoke-free supporters say families have a right to breathe clean air while they eat dinner. >> i think the right to breathe should take precedence over being able to smoke anywhere you want. >> reporter: the smoking ban would also extend to those standing in line at atms. this smoker hosan rosa supports

redwood city. the big rig accident killed one person. it shut down the 280 connector to eastbound 92 for several hours overnight. but the ramp reopened a short time ago. a usually quiet and safe neighborhood in fremont is shaken up after a deadly shooting that we are now getting our first look at a sketch of the possible suspect who is still at large. this man would have been in fremont's centerville neighborhood just before1:00 on thursday night. that's when officers responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of central avenue and joseph street. a 20-year-old man was shot and killed outside the apartment building. investigators are not yet sure whether this killing was gang-related. we do know this was fremont's first homicide of the year. and an outpouring of emotion outside court from suspended san francisco sheriff ross marcarini after a letter from his wife appeared in the newspaper. >> i view that as a love letter.

it's the best love letter i have received in this 13 wreaks. and i think it is a message for us all to stay strong. >> he was reacting to an op-ed piece that appeared in" the chronicle" reading in part, my dear ross, they do not let us talk, but you can read here from me that i love you." eliana lopez has the couple's 2-year-old son. he blasted her neighbor who reported the new year's eve fight that sparked charges of domestic abuse. he eventually pleaded guilty to charges of false imprisonment. he has not been allowed to see his wife for the last three months. and more controversy for that former high school teacher in modesto, christopher hooker, who left his job and family to live with a teenager student. but this morning he's in police custody for another alleged scandal. the 41-year-old sits in the jail cell following his arrest yesterday. a recent photo of hooker with

his 18-year-old lover jordan powers. he's living with powers, a former student from high school, and he's accused of sexually abusing a different student in 1998 at davis high school, also in modesto. the investigators say that student was 17 years old at the time of the alleged abuse. hooker is scheduled to appear in court on tuesday. panning for gold, sort of. police are on a treasure hunt of sorts. they are looking for a pair of gold medallions stolen during a burglary on march 23rd at a home in the city's bay district. the medallions have distinctive markings and were a gift to the robbery victim in return for his years of military service in saudi arabia. if you spot the gold, you should call the san francisco police. 15 people are missing after a bridge collapse in northwest turkey. two vehicles fell into the river below the bridge after part of it collapsed yesterday. efforts to locate and rescue the

missing people are ongoing. authorities shut down the shutters of a hydroelectric dam to lower the river's water level to help with the search. and weather habz made it extremely difficult for divers to search for the missing people. for the first time in a half century, cuban catholics celebrated a government sanction holiday on good friday. the holiday was granted after a request by pope benedict during his recent visit to the island. yesterday the streets of havana were filled with scores of cubans who acted out the stations of the cross. a mass was also broadcast on state television. cuba end ed religious holidays after 1959 and the revolution that put fidel castro in power. and we still have more ahead for you on "today in the bay." coming up, gop presidential hopeful ron paul shares what he thinks voters are ctialanng fdin a presidential candidate. good morning to you. looking live at san francisco this morning, way in the distance you can see the flag waving in the wind. it is a breezy start to this saturday morning. on the campaign trail, a republican presidential hopeful drew a big crowd at u.c. berkeley. not a protest but a crowd of ron paul supporters earlier this week. to accommodate the huge number of people, organizers had to move the event outside. paul talked about changing foreign policy, reigning in the deficit and restoring civil liberties. supporters say his policies make sense. >> bringing all of our troops home, bringing home the reserves, just staying out of people's business. >> balance the budget, cut a trillion dollars, obviously we can't afford anything. you know, people always say, he wants to cut education, no, he wants to cut the money out from the bureaucrats. >> paul says he's not giving up on the republican nomination and may take his campaign all the way to the national convention. ron paul says young voters don't

want any more war. he sat down with an interview with nbc bay area's brent cannon to offer his take on what voters are looking for in a presidential candidate. >> because of this civil liberty issue, it is personal liberty and anti-war, and republicans are digging a hole for themselves. they don't want -- they complain about obama not fighting enough wars. they want to be more engaged and young people don't want the wars that continue nor to pay for them. so i think the only way you can appeal to a broader base is to change its message a little bit. >> why is it you resonate so well with this younger group of people? >> the most common thing i get is that i'm the only one telling the truth. i say, well, we say the same thing. they say, well, they don't believe them. there's the attitude that i'm trying to tell them exactly what's wrong and what can be done. even though i have a dire message how bad things are, the students young and with open

there are lots of easter egg hunts around the bay area today. tomorrow is easter and that means many bunnies will be out hiding eggs today. some of the easter egg hunts are free. we'll get you started in san francisco. in the spring extravel began za at sharon meadow at golden gate park. there's and egg hunt, carnival ride and entertainment from 11:00 to 3:00 costing you $8. in berkeley the spring egg hunt extravel began za is at the clock tower on the u.c. berkeley campus for the largest egg hunt in northern california. the hunt starts at 11:00 a.m. and it is free. on the peninsula, belmont is having the egg hunt behind the twin pines meadow. the hunt starts at 9:00. kids age 3 to 10 get in free. and in the south bay, the city of campbell is having a huge easter parade with marching bands, classic cars and bunnist and the easter bonnets. the parade starts at noon. happy hunting. well, how skilled are you at
