volunteers will be out again this morning. bob redell is live in the morgan hill elementary where people will gather a few hours from now. good morning, bob. >> reporter: yes, good morning to you. burnett elementary, site of the search center. they will be conducting another volunteer search. they will be starting opening this place up in about two hours from now. volunteers will be on the ground searching for the 15-year-old girl. sierra lamar who has been missing over a month now. sheriff's department will be back on the water looking for clues using their sonar. investigators restarted the search earlier in the week. they till have four more pounds to check out this morning. ones located off monterey road. then they will be off to other locations. this week the sheriff's said they developed new leads after receiving results from the county crime lab. these were analysis they have been waiting for for quite? time now. the lab has been looking at sierra's purse, clothes, cell

phone. not sure which piece of evidence these items yielded. but law enforcement also not saying this new information is as a result of fingerprints, dna or hair fiber. if you want to help in the search this morning, the volunteer search, you must be 18 years of age. bring your feet owe i.d. to prove that and be here between 8:00 and 1:00 at burnett elementary. this morning, chilling video of the so-called speed freak killers being interrogated by police. >> getting louder and louder. i told him don't kill her, man. take her back to her car. i started backing out. turned and looked at me one time. i didn't know what to do. >> that's herzog talking about

his crime spree partner during a 1998 interview with police. the two men have been linked to at least a dozen murders during a meth fueled killing rampage. herzog has since committed suicide. earlier this year he provided massive locations where he says they dumped bodies. one location alone turned up more than a thousand bone fragments. one of the officers in the so-called east bay dirty cops case will be back in court today. former san ramon police officer lewis lombardi pleaded guilty and could be sentenced to more than 60 years in federal prison. lombardi admits selling confiscated drugs and stealing jewelry, drugs and cash from crime scenes from the four years he served. new this morning, a san jose bound air traveler in trouble after taking off all of his clothes in airport security line. 49-year-old john brennan facing charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct after

stripping right down at a portland international airport. he said he felt screeners were harassing him. police say his actions shut down two screening lanes and passengers had to cover their children's eyes. he was released from custody late last night. in san francisco this morning, hundreds gathered to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the great san francisco earthquake and fire. already there has been a wreath laying ceremony, fire hydrant ceremony write and a fund-raiser. christie smith live in san francisco covering it all for thus morning. we have more on the commemoration. good morning. >> good morning to you. quite a crowd out here, bright and early. what's happening now is that this is the hydrant, fire hydrant that's credited with saving the mission. what happened is each year on the anniversary of the great quake, people come out here and give it a spray of gold paint. what is happening anyone that wants to right now can come on up and we just saw police chief dedicate his spray to a

relative, native san francisis . the fire burned for three days is swept through the mission. a group of volunteers and firefighters laid hose, little water coming but the hydrant worked. it saved the neighborhood. the first survivor we saw out here, winnie hook, she made the first spray. we are told she is 106 years old. so far we have seen two of the four survivors out here this morning. probably will go on for another ten minutes or so. a lot of people dedicating their spray to relatives, to lives lost in the quake and fire. from here what will happen is that the group is going to head over to lefty's for breakfast. the public is invited to come. they are asking for a little donation, though, to keep these commemoration events going. that's the latest from here. reporting live from san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." a painful chapter in oakland's history will be the subject of a new movie. plans under way to bring the

new this morning, the front page of the "l.a. times," a big-time black eye for the pentagon. marla tellez following the overnight developments. what's up with this? >> reporter: certainly an embarrassment for the pentagon. "l.a. times" publishing photographs of reportedly showing u.s. troops posing with dead insurgents. the "l.a. times" is reporting one of the pictures shows members of the 82nd airborne division posing with the severed legs of a suicide bomber back in 2010. top u.s. military officials are condemning the soldier's actions calling them a dishonor to fellow service members.

>> washington continues to deal with the fallout of the secret service prostitution scandal today. we are learning more about how authorities discovered the alleged misconduct. tracie potts has more on that live from washington this morning. >> reporter: we are now understanding that there were 20, maybe 21 women involved in this and and there are folks on the ground in colombia interviewing them. checking their background. and in hopes of ensuring that they were not involved in foreign intelligence organize connected with drug cartels or terrorists. we also now know that in addition to the 11 secret service agents, there were five soldiers, two sailors, two marines, and one airman allegedly involved in this. a couple of them with the women still in their rooms when they were found. ape within of the women complained to local police that she had not been paid. the u.s. embassy was called in and that's how this all became public. here on capitol hill, lawmakers senate judiciary committee is thinking about launching its own investigation and there are

of four people still missing after that deadly boating crash off the fair lawn island. the family of alan cahill sent us these pictures overnight. cahill came to the united states from ireland almost ten years ago. he is a fixture at this san francisco yacht club. that's where he met his wife shannon. san francisco police are now involved in the investigation sending the department's accident you don't know to it the scene of the crash. investigators took photos of the sailboat grounded on the rock. they are also interviewing survivors. salvage experts are not sure how to remove the boat from the crash site without disturbing the island's nesting bird population. crisis teams will be in place at an elementary school in richmond this morning to help students deal with the news of a drive-by shooting that may have involved a parent. sheriff's deputies say one man now in critical condition after drive-by shooting in front of a corner store at 5th street and market avenue. not far from verde elementary. another man also shot but expected to survive.

deputies say several gunnmen fired the shot from inside the passing car. so far no reports of any retaliation as a result of the shooting. the intersection is known as a hotspot for crime back in november a 20-year-old man was shot and killed while standing in front of the very same store. a dramatic construction accident at palo alto high school. construction worker falling from a steel structure at the school yesterday morning. the 24-year-old man was spreading steel decking on the second floor of a classroom structure that's under construction when he lost his balance and then fell more than 13 feet right on to the concrete floor. he suffered injuries to both his hip and his face. 6:33. one east bay sitting taking aim at its gun regulations. after more than an hour of heated public comment the city council unanimously approve ad plan to ban the sale of guns and ammunition in residential areas. instead sales would only be allowed in commercial areas of the city. city leaders say the issue is about zoning, not the second

amendment right to bear arms. state lawmakers are rejecting a bill rejecting relationships between teachers and students. it would have made it a felony for a school employee to engage in sexual activity was a student even if that student was 18 years or older. a relationship in modesto prompt thing bill, 18-year-old jordan, recently moved in with her former high school teacher, 41-year-old james hooker. after a brief breakup the two have gotten back together. the chancellor of uc davis is promise changes to prevent another incident like the pepper spraying of student protesters last fall. linda says that she accepts ful responsible for the november 19 confrontation between campus police and students who had set up an occupy encampment at uc davis. she says poor planning, communications, decisionmaking by administrators and campus police led to unnecessary use of pepper spray. she promises a thorough review of policies and procedures. a san jose bound traveler

now facing charges this morning after stripping naked at an airport security line. police say that 49-year-old john brennan removed all of his clothes at the portland oregon airport prompting other passengers to turn away in embarrassment and shield their children's eyes. brennan says that he did it in protest of security screening. >> i heard nothing. this is my next action. i know that rude but not lewd, in oregon protected speech. and so i chose that option. he said he was told he positioned -- tested positive for nitrates by tsa screeners. he was then taken into custody and released late last night. 6:35. olympic countdown is on. we are just 100 days away from the opening ceremonies of the 2012 summer games. mail stone being marked across england and the internationally with a number of test events to iron out any operational problems before they light that

good morning to you. we have a good looking forecast today. and the reason for that great looking forecast is because you can see the blue sky just about everywhere except for the north bay. santa rosa. some fog out there. looking really good otherwise. temperatures are nice and mild to start the day. 51 in novato. the reason we have the fog in santa rosa and we are not dealing with it along the peninsula. calm winds up there. so that fog is able to settle right to the surface. burst into 17 miles per hour winds. straight out of the west in novato. we have sustainped wind mixing up the atmosphere and keeping you nice and clear. hi to bump up your numbers by the coast as a result. temperatures today will range in the 07s even in some coastal cities like santa cruz for example. high pressure furmly in control for today and tomorrow. still going to see a little bit of onshore flow. that will keep your temperatures at bay. keep them from soaring into the 80s like we are expecting friday and saturday. it all works out like this for today. high sirius clouds move through. maybe for a thin veil of cloud

cover over the sun, filtered sunshine as a result. and temps by tomorrow up into the 70s. as of noon take a look at this. 71 degrees as you break for lunch tomorrow. then friday, we get even warmer. stop the clock on your futurecast right at noon. 80 degrees in san jose. rounding out the day in places like san jose and livermore in the mid 80s. that means the 90s likely in gilroy and morgan hill as we head through friday and saturday as well. holding on to that warmth. bin sunday we will get an area of low pressure that rides right over us as a result with onshore flow. little bit of fog cooling us off in the morning hours. and temperatures 70 degrees. beautiful day but not quite as warm as we are expecting for friday and saturday. let's check your drive right now with mike. >> christina, right now we are getting used to a little more traffic. not for 24. construction, onram subpoena the only issue. not a problem for the flow to the area east shore freeway, 23-minimum drive. no incidents reported getting

still out for 470 customers. no word on when power will be fully restored or what caused that outage. >> also this morning, divers back in the water near morgan hill and volunteers combing for clues in the does appearance of sierra lamar. bob redell joining us live from morgan hill where volunteers will gather for another search starting this morning. good morning. >> reporter: here at burnett elementary in morgan hill. sierra search center. opening up in just over an hour. volunteers can come here and get their assignments and go out and search areas you a round the south county for see air lamar. the 15-year-old girl who has been missing for over a month now. while volunteers will be doing that, we are told that law enforcement will be back on local bodies of water with their sonar and understand they have four more ponds to check this morning. these are ones located off of monterey road. then they will be off to other locations. this week the sheriff's office says that they developed new leads after receiving its results from the county crime

lab. the lab had been analyzing sierra's purse, clothes and cell phone. those were items that were found around her home and fields near her home shortly after she disappeared on march 16. the sheriff's office won't say, though, if the new information is as a result of a fingerprint dna or hair fiber. if you are interested in volunteering, come here the to burnett elementary. registration is roughly between 8:00 and 1:00. you have to prove you are at least 18 years of age and you want to dress appropriately. long pants and sturdy shoes. reporting live here in morgan hill, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> just released video reveals new details about the so-called speed freak killers. stockton record obtained eight clips of detectives interrogating lauren herzog and shermanst. yne in 1998. they show investigators trying to pry information from the men who went on a 15-year killing spree across the central valley. >> more and more.

and i told him at one point don't kill her, man. take her back to her car. i started backing up. he turned and looked at me one time. i didn't know what to do. >> they are linked to at least a dozen murders. herzog committed suicide in january. shermantyne remains on death row. earlier this year he provided massive locations where he says that they dumped bodies. one location alone turned up more than a thousand bone fragments. one of the officers in the so-called east bay dirty cops case will be back in court today. former san ramon officer lombardi pleaded guilty and will be sentenced. his punishment could be more than 60 years in federal prison. lombardi admits to selling confiscated drugs and stealing evidence during the four years he served with the contra costa county drug unit. we should learn more today

about the future of oaksterdam university in the wake of the federal raid that shut it down earlier this month. oaksterdam's founder richard lee holding a news conference today to discuss his plans as well as plans for the university dedicated to the business of medical marijuana dispensary. federal agents raided the university back on april 2 leaving the future of medical marijuana in oakland uncertain. oakland issued permits for four new pot dispensaries in the city but now it is unclear whether any of them will actually stay open and open up shop. >> today is the 106th anniversary of the great san francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. people gathered before dawn at lotta's fountain to mark exact moment the devastating earthquake struck. right now the commemoration continues at lefty o'doul's. >> good morning. morning of events that started well before the quake even hit wound its way through the city and now as you said, we are back almost where we are started.

we are here at lefty o'doul's for the survivors bloody mary breakfast is what they are calling it with people inside dressed in period costume. this started at lotta's fountain market street with a moment of silence for all the lives lost. there was laying of a wreath at 5:11 a.m. the plus chief, the fire chief, many others. two of the four earthquake survivors including winnie hook who is 106 years old. she was the first to spray the fire hydrant at 20th and church street later this morning. it is credited with working to save the mission district at the fewer moved through the city after the quake. it burned for three days. even 106 years later, there is debate about the magnitude of the quake. the usgs puts it somewhere between 7.7 and 8.3. with these events, there is a somber tone for the tragedy but also joy of how the city came back. the bloody mary breakfast goes

some of the other big names tickets go on sale tomorrow. very strong lineup there. it is official now. menlo park liking facebook's expansion plan. city council approving the social networking giant's request to add more buildings and employees to its new campus. now in exchange facebook will pay nearly $1 million in annual payments to the city. facebook will also work with east palo alto on traffic and housing concerns and provide job training and internships for local students. 6:57. facebook immediated the city's permission to expand. scott mcgrew says the ceo does not ask for permission very often. >> and he doesn't have to. he didn't ask anyone before buying the app for a billion dollars. "the wall street journal" says this morning facebook's board only heard about the sale after it was a done deal. now normally boards are in charge. not at facebook, though. zuckerberg owns the majority of the voting shares. he can do as he wishes. that's a new model for business. certainly makes companies quicker on their feet.
