good morning, everybody, it's just about 4:31, i'm john kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check out the forecast with christina loren. >> good morning to you. i hope you had a chance to get outdoors yesterday. if not, we've got the same forecast today. a little bit warmer. and the reason why is we've got a full deck of clouds up ahead. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s across the bay area except for santa cruz at 51 degrees down there. headed to the 70s, even warmer through friday and saturday. i'll take you to that forecast. let's check your drive with mike. >> we have a fire truck, not a truck fire. a fire truck at eastbound 237 right off of highway 85. and this is an earlier brush fire. it was put out very quickly and there was also a person at the scene talking to him seeing what's going on. there are no issues as far as the flow of traffic because traffic's still light. there will be flashing lights as

a distraction coming to sunnyvale. as you pass by san bruno, that off ramp affected by road crews, and 101 not showing any slowing between 380 and highway 92. there's a wind advisory, i'll show you that live look coming up. back to you. ross mirkarimi is talking for the first time about the events that led up to his suspension. the san francisco sheriff gave a radio interview on kqed telling his version of what happened with that incident involving his wife. the former sheriff says he and lopez were headed to lunch when they began to argue about a trip lopez wanted to take to her native venezuela. and he turned the car around and returned home to try to revolve this argument and says he then grabbed lopez' arm when she tried to get out of the car. he will be in court today fighting his suspension. what may have been a glimmer

of hope for a family of a missing morgan hill teenager has turned into another investigation. someone hacked into sierra lamar's twitter account and posted a bogus message. the last twitter message from the 15-year-old was sent on march 16th, the day she disappeared. as for the search, the klaas family kids foundation will launch two more volunteer search efforts this weekend. a group of parents in san bruno say they don't want any more trauma for their kids. the school district talking about closing an elementary school that serves that neighborhood where a gas pipeline exploded back in 2010. "today in the bay's" jan ellie has that story. >> reporter: it involves kids who are still in counseling after witnessing the deadly san bruno explosion of 2010. the school district here in san bruno is considering closing elementary schools. and one of those schools is crestmore elementary. many of the young students are

still traumatized by the explosion. and they worry closing that school will only complicate their recovery. >> he has a second grade teacher he knows next year. yeah, it's definitely not helping our situation at all. >> reporter: dozens of families showed up wednesday night to urge school board members not to close any schools. a committee report says the move will only save the district about $200,000. parents say they are willing to help raise that money, but the superintendent says with declining enrollment and unreliable state funding, it's time to make tough choices. no final decision yet. the district has scheduled another meeting at the elementary school next week. nbc "today in the bay." school will be back in session at oikos university on monday. three weeks after a gunman killed seven people on campus. most classes will be held in the same building where police s say -- where police say a former

nursing student one l goh killed six students and a receptionist. it's possible nursing classes will be moved to a different location to spare students from further trauma. administrators say they could move some classes to oakland's patent university or fremont's unitech college. dozens of berkeley high school students are in trouble for manipulating their attendance records after they allegedly hacked into the attendance data base and in some cases sold the password. the school hired a dean of attendance last year who helped catch the scam. it's time to get those shovels ready. today the 49ers breaking ground on their brand new stadium in santa clara. live at the new stadium site right next to great america park. what's going on? >> hey, good morning to you, john. judging by the set-up behind me, you can see bleachers set up there. looks like tonight's

groundbreaking ceremony is going to be quite a party. the backers of this project have a lot to celebrate. after 5 1/2 years of debate, negotiation and vote, the city of santa clara has taken the 49ers from san francisco. this evening, the team will break ground on a brand new $1.2 billion, 68,500 seat stadium kplelt v complex to be built across the street from the headquarters and next door to great america. not everyone will be popping the champagne. you've got the san francisco residents excited, but not happy with the seat pricing, they'll be much higher in the new stadium. and some from santa clara upset they'll have to shoulder the chunk of cost for these new digs. >> it's been well debated, very

on "american bandstand." connie was 8 years old when they gathered around the television to watch her brother. 34 years later, in 1993, connie valin met dick clark when he presented the stamp series in santa monica. ritchie valins was one of seven honored. >> the publicist said to me, i don't know who your brother was because i really don't know who he was because it was before my time, but he must have been really something special to dick. and i said, well, why do you say that? because in all the years i've been with him, i've only seen him become emotional, you know, just a few times. he goes, actually i could count them on one hand. >> reporter: now almost 54 years after he appeared on american bandstand, his family says it feels just like yesterday.

welcome back everybody on this thursday morning. give you a nice shot out there of san francisco. lights twinkling in the sky. keep you posted on what the weather's going to be like. it is 4:44. three secret service employees out of a job this morning in the wake of a growing prostitution scandal in colombia. one agent has retired, one is being fired, the other resigned leaving eight under investigation. the house oversight committee wants a full report including details on disciplinary actions by may 1st. >> heads don't roll in a

bureaucracy that has something wrong, nothing's going to change. and i think you'll find these people, their heads are going to roll. >> investigators are also looking into possible drug use and some agents have agreed to take polygraph tests. so far, sources say there's no evidence that national security was compromised by the alleged events that came during the president's last visit to colombia. a new judge has been assigned to the trial of george zimmerman, the florida neighborhood watch captain who killed trayvon martin. on wednesday, circuit court judge stepped down because her husband actually works with the attorney who is providing commentary about the case for a cable news network. judge kenneth lester jr. was appointed to hear the case. well, wall street this morning, hoping for a big-time rebound after tech companies sent the markets sliding into a down slide yesterday. for that and more and the rest of the news before the bell, we turn it over to jackie live at

cnbc headquarters. good morning, jackie. >> good morning to you, john. well, the futures were up earlier, now they're mixed. i can't promise that kind of rebound today. stocks fell across the board as investors were less than impressed with earnings from tech giants ibm and intel. traders are eyeing europe today, as well. there was strong demand for government bonds this morning. we saw the asian markets lower overnight, european markets a touch higher. and here in the u.s., we're going to get data on unemployment filings and existing home sales. there's a ton of earnings, as well, including bank of america, morgan stanley, dupont, travelers, and verizon. we saw the dow fall 82 points to 13,032, the nasdaq losing 11 points. and the house has voted again to fast track the keystone xl oil pipeline. now the vote was part of an extension of federal highway funding. president obama blocked the pipeline earlier this year over

concerns that the planned route would go through parts of nebraska. transcanada which owns the pipeline has reportedly submitted a revised plan that would avoid that area. and finally, honda is getting high marks for resale value. the japanese automakers models retain 48% of their value after five years. acura holds in 44% of the value. it says that honda has long had a reputation of dependable use cars, that is good news. back over to you. >> thank you very much. >> all right. we'll see if you can pop open the sunroof on one of those cars. >> drop that top if you've got the convertible. you know what you'll notice, more motorcycles and bicycles on the roadways. so let's get right to your forecast for this morning. temperatures are running on the cool side. 55 degrees in oakland, 56 in

sunnyvale. we are three degrees away from 60 already this morning in san jose headed towards a gorgeous day. so as temperatures continuously climb, we're going to hit the 70s, mid to upper 70s everywhere. high pressure fully in control of the weather pattern as it moves in today. we're going to see that offshore flow start to develop. we'll see the winds pick up a little bit. a bigger impact will be the warmer weather. 5 to 10 degrees warmer than where we ended yesterday. saturday we max out with temperatures in the 90s on the temperature map. i'm struggling not to put it on the seven day. 78 degrees in los gatos, and 71 up in santa rosa. gorgeous day for outdoor activities. we're going to lose that breeze, as well. yesterday was kind of blustery, not going to deal with those winds today. now high pressure is making things very tranquil for us. it's going to be calm and quiet. up to 88 degrees as a result on saturday, 80 on sunday, staying

>> go sharkies. well, the giants' bearded closer is closing out of the season earlier than expected. undergoing elbow surgery today down in florida. the procedure is called tommy johns surgery. this is the second time he'll have this surgery. the first time was back in 2003 when he played back in college for lsu. he'll be out of action between 12 and 18 months. serious business. and speaking of serious pitching last night, quite the duel at at&t park. matt cain and the phillies going at it. cain had nine shutouts. cabrera says we're going home gentlemen, we're taking home to victory. that's the single, the score, giants go on to win it 1-0. and the party's on. >> the world series! >> we're a couple weeks into the season, celebrate. we'll take it. >> you got it.

we will take it. 4:54 right now. ground breaking for the 49ers new stadium happening today, many are wondering what's ahead for candle stick park. there are two different development plans for candle stick point. one includes a stadium, one does not. the non-stadium plan would include retail and office space in 6,500 homes, a third of which would be priced below market. local businesses say more housing isn't going to help them. >> the stadium would bring in, you know, more tourists housing. there is a lot of housing here already. and they're doing a lot of other developments, but it's still very slow. >> some residents say candle stick point wouldn't be the same without a stadium. but others say affordable housing is more important. >> just keep the stadium, put small condos around the top of that and everybody's going to hang out in the shopping center in the middle. 4:55 right now. let's check in with mike, our traffic guy.

>> we're looking over here at interstate 80. as you're traveling west over through american canyon. an earlier accident looking at the reports, seems like everything's completely clear from the roadway. the slowing earlier north of 29 has also cleared up, but highway 37 showing that bump now as folks are heading over toward vallejo. that's off to the left. further left, that would be north bay. we're looking at a smooth drive into and out of the city. construction on the north side looks like it has picked up on schedule just before 5:00. and further north from there, we're looking at san rafael. a nice easy drive southbound with those taillights, northbound with the headlights. >> thank you very much. a would be burglar in texas probably feeling embarrassed this morning after proving that he's dumber than a door. the security camera right here on camera will show you the man takes a rock, tries to throw it through the door of a pharmacy in dallas. tries to get it through the glass and it doesn't work.
