live at the intersection of south 7th street and virginia avenue with the latest. christie? >> reporter: good morning to you. richmond police are on scene investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital. he was airlifted to the medical center. i'll step aside so you can see what's going on here. what they're telling me is they're trying to piece together exactly how this happened. but technology tipped them off that multiple shots were being fired here at south 7th and virginia about 3:00 this morning. they arrived here on scene and found a male victim shot in an suv, the dark vehicle you see there. he was slumped over the steering wheel. they tell me there were bullet casings all over the ground when they first got here. those have since been cleaned up. now, in the street here, they're telling me these are the victims' clothes. there's a second car, they're telling me as far as they know, this may be the victim's relative who happened to pull up on the scene or be in the area.

now, if this is a drive by or exactly what set this off, they still don't know, but they are talking with two people right now. they say a possible relative tied to the white car you see there. and again, trying to piece together exactly how this happened. they're telling me they're still processing the car and will be here for quite some time. but, of course, they're asking witnesses, anyone who knows anything to please give them a call. that's the latest from here. reporting live in richmond, christie smith, "today in the bay." today you can call santa clara 49er central. that's after six years of anticipati anticipation, it's ground-breaking day for the brand new stadium in the south bay. bob redell live at the new site next to great america park and sounds like it's going to be a bash. >> yeah, good morning to you, john. and it's not just going to be a bunch of v.i.p.s in hard hats in the dirt. looks like they're throwing quite a party here tonight. and the backers of this project do have a lot to celebrate

skimming employee wages to try and cover operating costs. well, a brief glimmer of hope turning to outrage in the search for a missing morgan hill teenager. the santa clara county sheriff's department says someone apparently hacked into sierra lamar's twitter account and then posted a bogus message. this is cold-blooded. investigators say it was likely the work of someone who knew the 15-year-old's password. the teenager has been missing since march 16th. volunteers will continue to search for her this weekend. oakland police searching this morning for a gunman. police say the 24-year-old man was pushing his child in his stroller and someone shot him at east lawn street and 65th avenue. the man died at the scene, the baby was not hurt. new this morning, india says it has successfully launched a brand new nuclear-capable missile. "today in the bay" following this latest overnight

development. she's in our newsroom with the latest. what's going on? >> well, this story is all over the wires. the country calling its missile launch a success. here we go. and you know what? we do have the video to prove it. take a look here. the rocket launch going to be taking off from india's east coast, it already did this morning, indian officials say the missile is capable of reaching targets deep in china and europe. and so far, no official comment from the chinese government. the u.s. state department simply saying india has a strong record of non-proliferation. and developing in iraq almost 40 people now confirmed dead, another 100 hurt in a series of blasts across baghdad and some of the northern cities. officials say an extremist launched more than 20 attacks in just an hour and 15 minutes. they say these blasts resemble those carried out by al qaeda. and the fallout continues over the gruesome photos published by the "los angeles times" yesterday. this morning, abc news is reporting the taliban is vowing

revenge calling the images of u.s. soldiers posing with the remains of afghan fighters "inhumane." a statement from its editor, he defends his decision to print the photos despite pleas from the pentagon not to. saying at the end of the day, our job is to publish information that our readers need to make informed decisions. well, we are staying on top of all of these stories, we will continue to bring you the latest. laura? >> thank you very much. today a san francisco judge will decide if the city attorney will be removed from the case against suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi. saying herera cannot work on the case because he represents the mayor. mirkarimi was suspended by the mayor last month for official misconduct. now facing an administrative process to determine if he can

keep his job. mirkarimi was sentenced to probation and other penalties after pleading guilty to charges relating to a domestic violence incident involving his wife. there's an emotional debate unfolding in san bruno. appealing to the school board members over a plan to close crestmore elementary school. many of the students are still traumatized by the 2010 pg & e pipeline explosion. >> he has a second grade teacher he knows next year. so, yeah, it's definitely not helping our situation at all. >> according to a committee report, closing a school will save only the district about $200,000. and parents say they're willing to help raise that money. the district is holding a hearing on this matter next week. it is 5:07 right now. pg & e, baby, facing a hefty fine this morning. the utilities commission is

head out the door. taste of spring, bite of summer perhaps. 5:12. and new this morning, looks like it's move over apple once again, microsoft is moving in. the new store at the stanford shopping center. many apparently interested in one of the grand opening gifts they'll be handing out there, including free tickets to a maroon 5 concert on saturday. it's going to be a party. tech rival apple also has a store at that stanford store. microsoft opening up those doors 10:00 a.m. >> long line already in a parking lot. bay area company splunk will go public today. one of several ipos this week. >> yeah, lots of ipos lately. it'll open the nasdaq this morning, friday, the south bay's proof point. all of this coming after several other companies launched. here's yelp. that stock jumped 64% in its

first day of trading in the east bay, annie's launched. they traded bunny on the new york stock exchange. and here's the other companies i mentioned, first day of trading for splunk is today. proof point is data security. it is going to trade on the nasdaq, as well. company officials ringing the buzzer in time square on friday. and then info blocks describes as a network automation company and it will trade on the new york stock exchange. of course the granddaddy of them all is facebook. new reports say facebook will have its initial public offering may 14th. facebook will raise billions it really doesn't need. it's going to stash all that new money in u.s. treasury bonds the way your grandmother does. spain is selling bonds that will give you a heck of a lot better return than u.s. bonds will because there's a lot more risk.

shartia brantley is watching the bonds and other news coming out of cnbc's headquarters. good morning, shartia. >> good morning, scott. futures are mixed this morning after a down day on wednesday. stocks fell across the board as investors were less than impressed. traders are eyeing europe. there was a strong demand for the spanish auction of government bond this morning. asian markets fell overnight and european markets are mixed this morning. we get data today on unemployment filings in a few minutes and existing home sales. and there's a ton of earnings including bank of america. morgan stanley, dupont, travelers and verizon. the dow falling 82 points to 13,032 and the nasdaq losing 11 to 3031. american airlines plans to cut 1,200 nonunion jobs as it tries. american airlines filed for bankruptcy in november. the cuts affect baggage

handlers, sky caps and gate agents. the carrier is also closing a reservation center in arizona and clubs at washington dulles airport and in kansas city. american already announced plans to shed 1,300 union workers earlier this year. and that bottle of two buck chuck may not be so bad after all. a new report by a top private equity firm is predicting wine prices will go up this year. that's due to a looming shortage of grapes. and as higher gas prices make it more expensive to ship, both grapes and the finished product. california wines will be the first to go up followed by other western states. back to you. >> all right. thank you much. have you noticed at safeway that have that big deal you get -- i always feel kind of bad. >> really? >> pushing that much wine in a cart. >> you cover it up with bread, bagels, little this -- >> considered exercise. just a very thrifty shopper.

two buck chuck for everybody. >> you're going to want the white wine for the weather -- it's going to be hot around here. definitely a nice chardonnay on the patio. as we head throughout the afternoon, it's perfect weather for that, but come this weekend, temperatures are going to be really hot. so basically want you to drink lots of water if you're going to be spending any time outdoors. you want to stay hydrated because this heat is going to come on quickly and catch some people offguard especially if you work outside. friday and saturday, keep your guard up, hot conditions in the bay area. temperatures touching 90 degrees, which is warm on a summer day here in the bay area and we kicked off spring not too long ago. as you can see, we've got low pressure fully in control going to drive your winds offshore making for breezy conditions, 5 to 10 degrees warmer overall than where we ended up yesterday. tomorrow, we'll see more 80s on the temperature map and all works out like this. at noon, 61 degrees by the bay,

and the first part of the day in places like half-moon bay and pacifica. but later on, we're talking about a beach forecast you cannot beat. 75 degrees in pacifica. gorgeous conditions there. santa cruz also looking phenomenal. half-moon bay where we see the upper 50s to low 60s this time of year. we're talking about the upper 60s, low 70s today. santa cruz, 76 degrees, that's your beach of choice if you're looking for the warmest weather. trying to get your tan on. 88 degrees by saturday, keep you climbing sunday, monday, tuesday, things start to change, we drop off more cloud cover and we might even get a few light showers as we head through the course of monday into tuesday up in the north bay. that chance is slight, overall, though, cooler and cloudier week as we head through next week. enjoy that sunshine while it lasts. that means more bicycles on the road. >> two wheels, four wheels, and three wheels in some case. here we're looking over at a smooth drive, one thing heading

toward the bay. the toll plaza is an accident reported. no slowing shows up on our sensors and judging from the live camera, there's a relatively light volume getting past that scene. the san mateo bridge, a smooth drive, on the hayward side and then we'll see the westbound tail lights going past a sign which is lit up talking about hype winds across the bridge. we don't see the camera shaking at all, but that high-rise might catch you with a gust or two. chp issued the advisory overnight hours, we'll keep that in mind over to the peninsula side. the peninsula side itself shows a nice flow toward 101. no delays at the transition. construction crews picking up san bruno avenue. the off ramp there, but a smooth drive between 380 and 92 in both directions. further south, more roadwork going on over here. this is heading across the dumbarton bridge. eastbound, that should clear up without any slowdowns, 101 between embarcadero and shoreline, the crews here, the fire crews at 85 and 237 have

cleared with an earlier brush fire. no major slowing or incidents. the crew finally gone and the sharks that crew will be in full effect tonight. and hopefully celebrations after the game also getting in to town for dinner. >> thank you very much. and here's hoping for a speedy recovery from all of us and christina loren. giants closer brian wilson and his beard will be out for the season. undergoing tommy johns surgery. the surgery will reconstruct wilson's elbow by replacing a torn ligament. the giants' team manager expecting wilson to rejoin the team next week at home. but wilson, you know, not going to be pitching until 2013 at the earliest. but he will be there for moral support. now, this is the second time wilson has gone through tommy johns surgery. the first time was when the right-hander was back in college at lsu in 2003. >> can you imagine him coming

protests that left dozens dead. the photos were published in wednesday's "los angeles times." 5:23. this morning, dozens of berkeley high school students are susp d suspended from school. administrators say students hacked into the school's computer and cleared absences for a fee. it appears at least four students got their hands on an administrative password that gave them access to that data base. 50 students are suspended. a b.a.r.t. worker could lose his job after giving more than $300 worth of free tickets to a struggling kid. according to the chronicle, the employee says he was helping a 16-year-old who was having a tough time trying to afford a ride to school. the boy's father died last year. the workers said he's friends with the boy's grandfather only trying to be kind. the worker says he will get to defend himself at a personal hearing tomorrow. want to check the forecast right now with meteorologist christina loren, we had a lovely week for those temperatures creeping up. >> yeah, we're going to go from

richmond police are still onscene. they have removed the crime scene tape and one of the cars involved in this shooting is now gone. they've removed the tape and you can see the car that the victim was riding in. the drive's side window is completely shot out. i counted at least eight bullet holes in the door and front side of the car. v police trying to piece together what happened. but here's what we know. around 3:00 this morning their spot shotter technology let them know there were multiple gun shots in this neighborhood. when they got here, they say they found a male victim in that car. he was slumped over the steering wheel. he was airlifted to the medical center. they're still not sure what condition he's in right now. that's what police were telling me. there was a second car here, a white sedan. they think that may have been actually the victim's relative who somehow came up on the scene. that person came here and took

off in that car just a couple of minutes ago. there were two people in that car. police say they were talking with them all morning. at this point, again, they're not sure if this is a drive by or if the shooter walked up on foot. and of course, they're asking anyone with any information about this to please give them a call. reporting live in richmond, christie smith, "today in the bay." it is a monumental day. school back in session at oikos university monday three weeks after a gunman killed seven people on campus. many classes will be held in the same building where one l goh killed six former classmates and a receptionist. it's possible nursing classes will be moved to a different location to hopefully spare students any further trauma. administrators say they could move some classes to oakland's patent university or fremont's unitech college. so far, no deal has been made with either school. 5:31. u.c. davis police chief who led

the department in that pepper spray incident is stepping down today. she says she does not want the november 19th incident to define her or the university and she is retiring so everyone can move forward. she's been on paid leave since the confrontation with campus police and students last november who set up an occupying encampment at u.c. davis. an independent report criticized her for leading a department that was "dysfunctional." santa clara digging for gold today with the ground breaking of the new 49ers stadium. bob redell live at the new site right next to great america park. and bob, this day has been six years in the making, right? >> reporter: about 5 1/2. good morning to you, john. and judging by the large white tent, the big set-up behind me lit up early in the morning, looks like tonight's ground breaking ceremony is going to be quite a party. and in the eyes of the backers of this project, they have a lot

to celebrate considering there was a lot of doubt this would ever happen. but after 5 1/2 years of debate, negotiation, and vote by taxpayers, the city of santa clara has taken the 49ers from san francisco. this evening, the team will break ground on a brand new $1.2 billion, 68,500 seat stadium. a complex to be built right across the street from 49ers headquarters and next door to great america. not everyone will be popping the champagne tonight. there's some san francisco residents, season ticketholders not happy about the pricing being much higher at this sta stadi stadium. and some upset the taxpayers are having to shoulder the cost of some of these new digs. the mayor is confident this is not only the right move, but one that can move it out of the economic doldrums. i have to tell you, nothing easy. it happens for something great. i feel like this is something

great and we had to work for it. in the end, it's going to be so worth it for us. >> that ceremony is about an hour and a half tonight starting at 5:00, and we're told right afterwards and maybe when they say afterwards, they mean tomorrow morning. construction will begin and there's a lot of pressure to get this done fast because the 49ers like to have this new stadium built in time for the 2014 football season. reporting live here in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> if they build it, they will come, and of course, later on today, we'll be right there with them. we'll have live coverage of the ground breaking stadium in santa clara starting at 5:00 tonight. we'll have live interviews with players and 49ers president jed york. also live stream the ground breaking on nbc bay area.com. pleasanton is moving forward with a plan to build 500 apartments south of the b.a.r.t. station. a housing development will be able to build 18 new buildings including retail space at two

sites. eight acres on willow road and another eight acres at hacienda. 58% of the units will be set aside for low-income renters. the project helps the city settle a lawsuit accusing pleasanton of not doing enough to provide housing at below market prices. homeowners in marin county could soon see a flood of new rate hikes on their water bills. the water district floating the idea of a 6% fee increase which would begin may 1st. if approved, this would be the sixth consecutive year of hikes. an average customer would have to pay more than $100 for a two-month bill instead of the usual $94. the district blaming rising costs in maintenance care and employee benefits. a public meeting will be held at the san rafael city hall. want to check that forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> yeah, you'll notice a lot more people on foot later on this afternoon enjoying that

hill where congress is demanding more answers from the head of the agency. good morning. >> hey, laura, good morning. good morning, everyone. and we also now know the head of the agency is getting rid of three of those agents. one retired, one resigned, and one in the process of being fired for cause. the "new york times" also has an article about a 24-year-old self-described escort who says she was one of those women, got in a hallway fight with one of the agents when he refused to pay her the $800 they agreed on. he was only offering 30. but by that time, the whole scandal had broken wide open and now this is spilling over a bit into the campaign trail. here's what mitt romney said on the radio last night. >> i'd clean house. and the right thing to do is to remove people who have violated the public trust. >> congress has a lot of questions about this, including whether any of those women were under age. there are a number of committees looking into it. but no hearings are scheduled so

>> going to go all the way right up to the top. >> well, there it is, fans flocking to clark's star on the hollywood walk of fame to pay tribute. back in 1972, clark created new year's rockin' eve and hosted the event until a severe stroke sidelined him in 2004. then in 2006 he made a triumphant return and continued to ring in the new year up until last year. clark died wednesday morning after a massive heart attack at a los angeles area hospital. he was 82 years old and dick clark, i had a chance to interview him on several occasions and he was just a class act. and i mean always running the show. he ran the american music awards. amas every year -- >> dick clark productions -- >> yeah, many productions. the guy was just such a big influence with music, but just television and beyond. >> he helped discover so many stars. >> big time. back before everybody approved

a taste of summer. the warmest temperatures we've had in almost six months across the bay area. and today, 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. tomorrow, a few 80s. all works out like this. the upper 70s today, in the south bay, the east bay, the warmest region, 77 degrees in ferry field. i want to give you a preview of tomorrow at noon. we stop the clock on your future cast at noon on friday, 80 degrees in san jose. you'll be at 79 as you break for lunch in antioch tomorrow and 80s at noon with three additional hours of warming to go. that's why we're expecting the mid-80s. and then on saturday, we stop the clock at noon, take a look at this, 84 degrees in san jose. so easily hitting the 90s down in the south bay. you also have some options for some 90s up in the north bay and east bay, as well. so it all works out like this for the next few days. temperatures are going to stay on the mild side. 85 degrees on friday and then it gets toasty saturday up to 88 degrees inland. so if you have any questions about your forecast, which beach you'd like to get to, hit me up
