john kelley, and i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. let's check that forecast. the heat is going to go away. >> yeah, and actually we have some rain in the forecast, as well. good morning to you. let's talk about what's happening out there right now. temperatures are on the cool side. we're in the upper 50s for the most part and it's a little bit on the windy side. make sure you hold on to your steering wheel as you cross the bay area bridges. you will get caught by a gusty wind from time to time. winds will be the story. we're headed toward the 70s and then the rain moves in. we'll talk all about that. let's get you back to work on a good note. >> the wind that is an advisory issue for the chp. let me take you further south of there. northbound 880, earlier this morning, there was a report of a hit-and-run accident there around 7th. also a car fire, that fire is out, but the activity still on the shoulder. i'll track that for you, but no slowing past the scene. a little slowing southbound heading toward the coliseum.

no incidents to report, but i'll follow up with that in a couple of minutes. back to you. >> all right, mike. thank you very much. students in the east bay returning to class for the very first time since a gunman shot and killed seven people at the university three weeks ago. >> but not all the students are returning to the very same building where the shooting happened. live at oikos university to explain. certainly going to be an emotional day, stephanie, good morning. >> good morning to you both. absolutely an emotional day. and there are still plenty of reminders here in front of the university. there are flowers, memorial banners. over my shoulder you see a light on. now with the exception of nursing students, most students will be returning to class here today where three weeks ago seven people lost their lives. now we spoke with the president of oikos university. he says there should be a bigger group of students returning here tomorrow morning. there will be an open house type of event. back in the building where

former student one goh allegedly shot six students and a staff member. he says it's likely the majority of the school's 100 or so students are suffering some level of post traumatic stress. >> it's a terrible tragedy. this man is now locked up. it's not likely to happen again. but that doesn't stop the emotional seed from replaying this event. >> a student who survived the shooting was shot once in the arm. she told a local newspaper she was not going to be coming back to class if she had to be back in the building. so again, the nursing students will not be coming back to this campus. they will be heading to fremont's unitech college campus. as for the suspect one goh, he is due back in court april 30th. live in oakland this morning, "today in the bay." ross mirkarimi is set to make his case to san francisco's ethics commission this afternoon. this coming after a judge on

friday rejected his request to overturn his suspension. once they review the misconduct case, it will make a recommendation to the board of supervisors. the board will make the final decision on whether to remove him from office. mirkarimi's suspension coming after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic abuse charges stemming from a new year's argument that left his wife with a bruised arm. the trial of former senator john edwards set to get underway in north carolina. edwards accused of using nearly $1 million in campaign donations to help hide his pregnant mistress during his run for president back in 2008. that mistress rielle hunter expected to testify. edwards facing six criminal charges and if convicted, faces prison time and $1 million fine. the neighborhood watch volunteer charged with killing 17-year-old trayvon martin is now out of jail. george zimmerman posted a $150,000 bail and was then

released just before midnight. zimmerman's current location is being kept secret for his own safety. as a condition of his release, he's wearing a gps monitoring device, he has to check in with authorities every three days, and he cannot carry a gun. congressional committees want to dig deeper into that secret service prostitution scandal. the senate and homeland security committee wants to find out if what went on in colombia was an exception or a pattern of misconduct. the house homeland security committee has sent a list of 50 specific questions to the director of the secret service. they include a request for a comprehensive minute-by-minute time line. >> obviously nobody believes that something with 11 or 12 people involved couldn't have happened before. >> the white house ought to be conducting its own internal investigation of white house personnel who were there. >> senior administration officials and the secret service

insist there is no evidence that implicates white house staff. the federal government launching an investigation into 5,000 school buses after several cases of engine problems and at least three of them oil lines failed causing the buses to suddenly stall. in one case, a bus was traveling 55 miles an hour, the full load of students when the engine started smoking and abruptly quit. the problems all stemming from 2008 model buses with the brand international ce. the investigation may lead to a recall. a santa rosa man is fighting for his life after a home invasion robbery attempt over the weekend. police say two armed men entered a home on donna maria way friday night. they demanded money and marijuana. during a struggle, the 23-year-old resident was shot and critically injured. both robbers got away. a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. marla, a day of action planned by labor groups could

lead to the shut down of the golden gate bridge. a collection of union groups has planned a picketing event on may 1st. a protest contract negotiations with the bridge district. and if any of the unions go on strike, the occupy movement says it will shut down the privilege in show of solidarity. the bridge district warning commuters, that could lead to big-time traffic delays. the seasonal weather is not only warming up the bay area, but also serving as a reminder for pet owners. the spca is asking people to be careful when leaving dogs and other pets inside locked cars. animals could suffer brain damage and heatstroke as they are exposed to high temps. they say leaving a window open or parking in the shade does not fix that problem. and if your pet -- if it is suffering from the heat, go to a cool area and apply cold better or ice packs to the animal's head and body. >> always important stuff to keep in mind. >> yeah. >> i like to stay hydrated myself. let's check in with christina

loren to find out what's happening. looks like a nice week, but some fluctuations. >> the only difference between you and a dog, mr. kelley, they can only sweat through their nose and they have sweat glands in their paws, as well. you need to make sure they're staying cool as we have -- we have those sweat glands all over to keep us nice and cool. that might be the case today as we do have another warm day on tap. but come thursday, rainy conditions right back to winter. so we continue that roller coaster ride. look at this wind out of the west/southwest, sustained right now in fairfield. pretty breezy out there. good morning to you calm winds in some cities like santa rosa where the fog will settle in. we lose this wind and all of that moisture settles to the surface. it all works out like this for today, 64 degrees by noon inland, 65 by the bay, and 63 by the coast. and you can see here dealing with a fair amount of cloud cover all day long. so if you're trying to get the

reported there, as well. we'll continue to track that and move further north. a smooth drive into the area out of the north bay, a little slowing northbound 680, shouldn't be a problem, but i'll check for incidents. so far, the only stalls reported antioch and livermore. we'll show you those coming up. back to you. well, there is rain in the forecast, but at least the giants are out of town most of this week, which means crews expect to get started on resurfacing part of the lefty o'doul bridge. the closure was supposed to happen earlier this month but had to be rescheduled because of rain. the northbound closure will begin this morning and run through friday. >> well, if you didn't hear it, maybe you heard about it. experts say bright light and very loud explosion that rattled parts of california and nevada was likely caused by a meteor shower.

welcome back everybody on this monday morning. a very cool shot of downtown san francisco. tra is the transamerica pyramid there blinking atop. look at those clouds. christina loren says they're up to something so brace yourselves later in the week. it's going to be coming. welcome news for drivers this morning, gas prices are dropping. fell more than 5 cents a gallon over the past two weeks. the drop is due to a stagnant price for crude oil. in the past week, gas prices have dropped about 3 cents here in the bay area. oakland is at 4.16, and san francisco $4.28. the markets have been on the uptick the past few weeks, but traders may be getting the monday blues. for the latest on the markets before the bell, let's check in at cnbc headquarters. good morning, jackie. >> good morning to you. yeah, the futures are down sharply this morning following

disappointing economic data out of europe. manufacturing activity is slowing down across the ponds and that's renewing recession fears. european and asian markets in the reds today and here in the, low economic data. also a heavy week for earnings with big names like apple, boeing, 3m, proctor & gamble reporting their numbers. the dow closing up on friday snapping the two-week losing streak, the nasdaq fell to 3,000. meanwhile, walmart could face legal scrutiny following allegations of a massive bribery campaign at the mexican unit. the "new york times" learning that the executives learned of the scheme in 2005. and an internal probe found that bribes were paid to obtain building permits but senior management shut down the probe and failed to notify u.s. or mexican authorities. in december, walmart disclosed it was conducting an investigation into possible violations of the foreign

59 degrees in sunnyvale. it's mild out there to start you out on a back to work monday. we're headed toward the 70s this afternoon. it's a little bit on the breezy side in places like fairfield, but the sustained wind at 25 miles per hour. our winds are shifting indicative of the area of low pressure that's going to change everything as we head through tomorrow, showers on the way. enjoy the 70s, mid-70s in some cities while they last. 72 degrees in san jose, 64 in san francisco, and 70 degrees in santa rosa. seven-day forecast shows you we are going to be nice, at least for today and tomorrow and then the rain moves in late wednesday. these are spring showers as you know april showers bring may flowers. that's what we're expecting as we head through wednesday and thursday. but we will notice temperatures dropping back to the 50s at the coast. so it's going to feel more like winter wednesday and thursday. and we could pick up 1/2 inch to an inch of rain up in the north bay. after that, though, we're going to dry you out and clear things up just in time for the weekend. warming you up to 77 degrees on saturday and 80 degrees on sunday. another great weekend for
