5:12 am
consider at the regular meeting tonight. it's physically carrying out the line. that would be a long pain staking process. so a second option is what pg & e has recommended recently, which is plugging the pipe with concrete. or there's a third option, which is what city staff is suggesting, a mixture of both options. and that would be to tear up roughly 900 feet of the pipeline and plug the rest with concrete. a big issue with people. we've heard that some residents have made t-shirts that said pg & e, take out the pipeline. still an emotional scar for some of these folks here. and so tonight at 7:00 is when city council will consider this issue. 5:17 am
a bad way to start the day in san jose. as you can see right here, we do have an area of low pressure rotating in the pacific. and what's interesting about this area of low pressure it did not originate in the gulf of alaska. it's not a really cold system. it's not going to drop our temperatures all that much. but looks like it's going to tap into some subtropical moisture. and for us, that means we could just get dumped on if the set-up happens just right. this is what we're expecting for now. maybe an inch of rain at best. right now looks like the north bay is going to get the most rain even though that system's creeping up from the south. this is how it works for today. a little bit of drizzle. we'll get the sunshine for the second half of the day. and overnight tonight, first showers up in the north bay. show you what it looks like on your future cast. tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m., you can see a little bit active at that point. couple cells creeping onshore, making for a slower than usual commute. we're expecting a slower than usual commute come thursday morning when the bulk of the moisture comes through. but i wanted to show you as you can see that front is draped across the north bay with the heavier rain coming down up here. even in san jose, once it does

make its way into our neck of the woods, maybe 1/2 inch, maybe a quarter squeezed out. not expecting a lot down here, we'll take what we can get. still running a substantial deficit. 76 degrees in san jose today, last day of the mid-70s, but we're going to hold on to the low 70s inland tomorrow, dropping you to the 60s inland on thursday. and then we'll warm you back up for the weekend. also expecting some thunderstorms over the course of wednesday into thursday. isolated and it looks like the mountain regions have the best chance of seeing that lightning if we do have that. so we're going to keep watching that for you. right now, instability at about 20% for thunderstorms. let's check your drive with mike. >> all right. good morning, folks. a couple things to point out on the map here. the 55, we're already seeing a little slowdown coming for antioch in anticipation of the big bulk of traffic hitting in the next few minutes. yesterday we saw heavy flow through the tri-valley and east bay today, traffic tuesday, likely to see more. over here, well, we've been talking about krispy kreme the

new one, it's right there in case you want to head over there. 680, the roadways are moving smoothly through the area. that ramp closed from the southbound side and also more construction continuing down alacosta. we're looking at a 14-minute drive, smooth drive for 580 toward the same interchange, 680 moving smoothly down through sunol with no problems and no delays into the south bay. your northbound routes are what we concentrate on here. a smooth drive. the crews on 17 still going on south of the summit. but really that's to be expected as is typical through this area and no major slowing. live look at 880, and as we talked about, those crews have cleared and now the flashing lights gone, and a smooth drive to the bay bridge. 5:19, a west coast war of words is swirling this morning after the governor of washington dissed california wines while

5:30 am
and it appears one of the victims may have just accidentally driven into the scene. a roommate of his tells us he was grazed in the collarbone by a bullet. and they got called to holly street after 11:00 last night. they found two young men down, one shot in the leg and the other in the chest. they are looking into reports that they may have been firing on each other. talk about timing. a third man drives by, police say it looks like he may have had nothing to do with it and was just struck by a bullet right through the car window. one neighbor who lives blocks away described the noise. >> it sounded like he made at least 30 shots, two different guns, long, rapid fires. just longer than what you usually would hear. >> reporter: the third person hit made it home according to that roommate and was treated.
5:31 am
the victims taken to highland hospital, all of them expected to be okay. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." 5:31. a suspect shot by fairfield police has died. officers say the 51-year-old man was shot on gold coast drive near dover avenue last night. investigators say the officer was following up on an investigation when he got involved in a violent struggle with the suspect in the doorway of a home. the officer calls for backup but shot the suspect before that backup arrived. >> i heard something along the lines of, don't do me any favors or something like that and i heard the police officers asking to get down quite a few times. >> the officer is a 16-year veteran of the force. he is now on administrative leave pending an investigation. there are more charges than just a crazy story here expected to be filed against a san francisco man accused of impersonating a plastic surgeon. garza's already accused of

5:34 am
it's too much of a physical reminder of what happened, of course, in the blast that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. so some neighbors have been pushing since the blast to get the city to help get this natural gas pipeline torn out. so that is something that city leaders will discuss at the regular meeting tonight. however, of course, the line runs more than 8,200 feet. that would be a very long, pain staking process. the second option is what pg & e recommended recently which is plugging the pipe with concrete or what city staff is considering the mixture of both. carrying out roughly 900 feet of the pipeline and plugging the rest of it with concrete. no matter what is decided, pg & e expressed the company will pay all costs associated with this project. and so those are the three main options for city council to discuss and consider tonight at the regular meeting that begins at 7:00. live in san bruno this morning, "today in the bay." today, thousands of san

foreclosure loss. and in california, arizona, nevada, and florida, we are seeing the most impact. over 1 million children, 12% of those in california are either living in or have lived in homes at risk of foreclosure. and that seems to be a lot more than much of the rest of the country. florida, actually, even worse than california with 15% of its kids impacted by this. the big concern here is what impact is this forced moving having on children? first focus reports says it affects their health, development, and also their school performance. having to move and often times in the middle of a school year. it's like missing an entire month of school. and they see the test scores going down to support that. >> such a sad reality. okay. tracie, thanks. now to decision 2012 polls open this morning in another wave of the gop primary elections. delaware, new york,
