took over. violence was sparked when four police officers accused of beating rodney king were acqu acquitt acquitted. in the end 53 people died. coming up, my interview with rodney king 20 years later and a look at how l.a. and the lapd have changed during the last two decades. and then later the secret service plans to conduct practices. we'll have a live report from the white house in just a moment. and then george zimmerman. we learned friday that his personal website raised more than $200,000 in contributions. he did not disclose that during his bond hearing. prosecutors wanted a judge to consider raising zimmerman's $150,000 bond. we'll tell you what the judge decided. lester. >> and then, amy, on a lighter note, mcdreamy to the rescue. patrick dempsey put his training to work and helped someone in a recent car accident. in fact, it was in front of his

home. coming up, why he's being hailed a hero. he doesn't just play a doctor on tv. >> he must have learned something. this morning we begin with the new secret service policies. in's in response to the code of conduct scandal that erupted in colombia. mike viqueira is in washington. >> reporter: it's tarnished the sterling reputation of one of the nation's premier law enforcement agencies. in the wake of all of the allegations, around that dispute, soliciting prostitutes among the advanced members of the secret service team and the military. mark sullivan has now issued new guidelines to his agentings, ann doing so he tells them to, quote, consider your conduct from the last several weeks. foreign nationals are prohibited from hotel rooms of skrfsecret

service. alcohol is allowed in moderation while off duty and not within 10 hours of reporting for duty. this might be common sense but he reminds everyone the laws of the united states still apply when traveling overseas. and to that end they're going to have briefings in person for those traveling overseas for each presidential trip. there are new allegations of unproven misconduct from a trip in el salvador two years ago. there are still investigations ongoing. >> mike vviqueira, thanks so much. now here's lester. >> president obama and mitt romney endured new attacks this week. chris matthews is host of msnbc's "hardball" and aauthor of a new book "hero." good morning. >> good morning. >> are you surprised the secret

service rules weren't already in place? >> i'm always impressed. i have to believe that this is part of their makeover. they're going to try to really improve their image right now. i really do think based upon this investigation so far that this is fairly limited, this problem, but, of course, it was a huge embarrassment. i was down there with the president at an event in cartagena. for all the good work done by the president and the staff and the secret service generally, this has been a black mark on them. i think they're going to do a lot of work to try to improve their image. i think this is part of that right now, not just training but imagery training. >> let's dig into some of the political headlines of this week. one of them is john boehner has been attacking the president. the president has been out trumping this student loan bill. he's done it in swing states. here's what boehner said, and then i'm going to get your comments on the other side. >> people want to politicize this because it's an election year, but, my god, do we have to

fight about everything? and now, now we're going to have a fight over women's health. give me a break. >> both parties certainly want to keep interest rates low on student loans, but it is being politicized. does he have a fair point? >> well, on both sides. but to a student, the difference between 3% and 6% is a lot and also to parents in many cases and the democrats are going to try to reduce the rate. the republicans want to reduce the rate. the democrats want to blame it on the republicans for hurting women's health which is part of the recurring effort. but in all fairness it does take away from the health care plan. so it is legitimate, but it is an election year. everybody should remind themselves as of this week it is a general election and the house is up for re-election. boehner's house is up for re-election. and there is a new their, by or

people are no long eer ticket splitters. >> is it clear that john boehner is supporting mitt romney. >> members of congress are ratest the lowest in history. i think the big thing we saw this week that all hands are on deck, everybody's at their battle stations. any time either party talks from now on, it's about a presidential election. >> karl rove super pac has its own ad attacking president obama. the question is he too cool to be president. slow jam, singing al green. does this have the opportunity to back fire? >> i think it's so interesting.

his margin came from young voters. he's out there to energize young voters. i think about my kids voting. people in their 20s and late teens have to get out and vote heavily for the president to win like he did last time. he's out there working them with culture, pop music, being cool. so, of course, republicans have to come back and whack him when it's pure politics. it may work with white working-class voters who thing this guy's a little too cool for school to use the old expression, and i think this is just sheer politics. but the republicans may have something here. maybe the president exposed himself as too cool to get the young people. it may offend some of the old people. you know, what else is new. >> chris matthews. chris, good to see you. >> lester, good luck with that speech today. >> thank you very much. any thoughts, i'm me. >> keep it to ten minutes. >> ten minutes? i have it at 14. all right, my friend. thank you very much. coming up on nine minutes past the hour. here's amy.

in florida, accused murderer george zimmerman has acquired funds. a quiet constituency who support his "stand your ground" defense has donated in excess of $200,000. nbc's kerry sanders has more. >> reporter: when george zimmerman walked out of jail monday, he had told the court he was indigent. >> at the time that he was before you, there was about 150 or so thousand dollars -- still getting the precise amount -- available for whatever purposes. that was not disclosed to you by the family members. of course, my client didn't testify to that. >> reporter: friday in court his defense attorney revealed to the very judge who set zimmerman's bond at $150,000 that george zimmerman had established this website and requested donations. zimmerman's defense fund quietly grew to $204,000. some of that cash, $5,000, was used for very bond that allowed

his release from jail. >> let us welcome the legal team and the family of trayvon martin. >> reporter: 17-year-old trayvon mart martin's family threw a rally commemorating their son's life. they say the man who shot their son belongs back in jail for concealing his newly acquired money. >> we believe george zimmerman not only deceived the parents of trayvon martin, he also deceived the court and the court should reevoke his bond. >> reporter: attorney mark o'mara who is expected to argue that he was defending himself when he shot and killed trayvon martin, won't reveal the names of the donors because he fears there will be pprisapprisals. >> if he had not another penny coming in, i would not ask for more. trayvon martin's family has their own website to seek

tens of thousands of anti-government protesters today in malaysia's capital. they think they will have an unfair advantage in elections which could take place as early as june but they say the concerns are exaggerated. as the one-year anniversary of the death of osama bin laden, we'll have an interview. brian learns new details about the raid that targeted bin laden. the interview will air this coming wednesday, may 2nd, at 9:00 p.m./8:00 central on nbc. a month after a tornado destroyed their high school in henryville, indiana, these students finally got to celebrate their prom night. the special event was held friday night in a new location. everything from the new building to decorations to most of the dresses were all donated by members of the community. and as that community recovers, another is cleaning up. three tornados struck

friday. that's a look at your weekend forecast. lester? >> all right, bill. thanks. now to a whodunit involving a british spy as nbc's anabel roberts reports. it still has more questions than answers. >> reporter: garris williams was a spy for mi 6, the british version of the cia, a code breaker and brilliant mathematician. his bizarre death has police and mi 6 totally baffled. two years ago his decomposed body was found zipped in a bag in his bathtub. the bag was zip and padlocked with the keys underneath his body. they've seen film of man with a similar physique attempting to zip himself into an identical duffel bag. they're wondering if he could have locked himself into the bag on himself.

he managing to get in, does up the zipper, but he cannot snap the pad lock shut. police conclude there must have been someone else in the apartment when he died, but who. very small dna traces have been found on the zipper, but they have not been traced. police did find some unusual items in the apartment. a woman's orange wig hanging on chair and in a bedroom a yellow duffel bag and several boxes of women's clothe, mostly unworn worth more than $30,000. five years ago living this this flat the land lady found him in the middle of the bed on the floor in shorts with both hands tied to the bed post. he said he wanted to see if he could get free. >> this shoes bizarre behavior. it should have been picked up by the vetters. >> reporter: the building behind me is the headquarters where garecht williams worked.

good morning to you. looking live at the bay bridge, one of your alternate routes if you're trying to move in and around the city of san francisco as construction is underway. demolition, i should say. thank you for joining us. i'm kris sanchez along with rob mayeda. let's look at the forecast. we had the rain in the middle part of the week. now we are enjoycing the nicer weather. 70s and 80s are moving back our way. you'll notice the breeze picking up near the coast. that will keep temperatures likely near pacifica and san francisco in the 60s. but inland today we'll start to see warmer temperatures. you can see on the satellite radar view the jet stream is starting to head back off to the north. so the high pressure is building in to our west, and we will see warming temperatures starting today. a bit warmer come tomorrow around lunchtime. close to 70 at san jose.

yuan edwards arrived for the fifth day of his trial looking calm and composed. >> good morning. >> but inside, the most dramatic testimony yet. as edwards' lawyer abby lowell maneuvered to shred the credibility of the prosecution's star witness. they battled over young's last meeting with edwards on a country road in august, 2008 when edwards denied knowing about hundreds of thousands of dollars young had collected from heiress rachel bunny melon, he says to cover up edwards' affair. i was scared for my life, he said. you thought mr. edwards was going to physically harm you? not mr. edwards personally. >> you thought mr. edwards was going to have somebody there to shoot you? >> that did cross my mind it, yes, sir. young also testified he was extremely angry because edwards had broken his promise to tell the truth. that he was the father of the daughter of his mistress, rielle hunter. >> andrew young showed some

passion and some fire about how badly he was hurt and betrayed by senator john edwards. >> reporter: in what experts say was a blow to the prosecution, young admitted that he pocketed about 80% of the money that the government claims were illegal campaign contributions to edwards to cover up his affair. a charge edwards denies. much of the money went towards this $1.5 million house for young. about $1 million, that's the money you kept, lowell asked? >> that's the money that was left over after paying hunter's expenses he shot back. >> i think the government's theory of the case is in serious jeopardy. >> at one point, young's voice cracked and he wiped away a tear when talking about the stress and strain of the cover-up on his family. lowell closed by asking young if he was a cold-blooded schemer motivated by ego and greed or the desire for power? young looking her in the eye said he was not. young's wife will be the first

witness on the stand next week. lester? >> nbc's lisa myers. we turn to mark geragos here with me. good morning. this is the government's star witness. is he performing like one? >> no, this is -- look, this prosecution to begin with is fatally flawed in terms of its theory that these were campaign finance donations and that they were misused. that's bad enough and then to put this clown up there? i've seen reports that john edwards has a 3% favorability rating. this guy is probably at zero%. >> he talks about this meeting on the road but admits edwards said i don't know about the money. isn't that the heart of the case? >> that in and of itself is reasonable doubt. this case was over in jury selection as most high profile cases are, depending on the jury that they have. i can't imagine that anybody is going to have any empathy, sympathy or want to the kind of step into the shoes of young. i just don't see the this case and "expenditure of money as

being anything other than kind of a show trial. >> and it's revealed that much of the money most of the money going to the building of his house. but if any of it did end up in funneling towards edwards' mistress, doesn't that hold up a guilty verdict? >> no, because basically they have to show that this monies were intended for campaign donations and that the donations were then siphoned off to her. there isn't anybody they're going to be able to put up there, remember fred baron is dead, bunny hunter is not going to testify. they don't have anybody to get into what the intent was. >> clearly this isn't all the prosecution's case. what do they have to do to repair the damage and sustain the basis of their case? >> i don't think they're going to be able to get up from this. they always knew putting this guy on they were going to have a difficult witness and i just don't think they're going to be able to come back from this. the one downside from that is,

applying the lessons of 1992. >> this is a city that was divided on race, class, ethnicity, a city that if we were to come together was going to have to acknowledge that you can't grow and be a great city if you're leaving entire communities behind. >> but many will argue it was the lapd that faced the toughest road back as it sought to transform its tarnished image. today crime is a fraction of what it was in '92. hundreds of officers, including many more minorities have been added to the force. >> now, when an officer stops you, you have somebody that looks like you, that understands what you're going through, that might see things the same way you see things. >> and most important, the lapd has formed vital partnerships with a community in its fight against gangs. >> the policemen tolerance has radically changed, positively changed. >> two of the police officers

the next morning her father told police she was gone. her window was open, the screen pushed aside. no suspects have been named. police are still calling it a suspicious disappearance. >> we will never give up. will never give up looking for you. >> reporter: isabel's parents broke their silence on wednesday. a day later sergio celis was in court on an unrelated charge, pleading not guilty to misdemeanor leash violations after his dogs wandered away from their home. celis did not speak to reporters and was escorted out of court by police. >> there's a lot of questions, more questions than answers obviously. i know sergio and his wife had nothing do with it. >> reporter: they go across the border as they've now said they've been in contact with mexican law enforcement officials. an award given by an anonymous donor has now been raised to $50,000. >> the issue here is we want to

true size. we have measured kiersten at a 34c. we're going to try a play tex bra that actually does not come in that size. so we're going to try this instead in a 36b, which is pretty much comparable to the 34c. >> something about it i don't -- it doesn't feel right to me. somebody about here. >> you're very right. it's not here. the main problem here is it's too small in the cups because as you mentioned you feel like it's flattening you a little bit. you're bulged out of it. this is not where it should be. these are digging in. so let's try instead the 36c. that looks great. use your size and your measurements as a guideline only. there are some key things you want to look for to know if your bra is fitting properly. the first thing would be the bridge, this little piece in the

center. it should be right flush against you there. as it is, your breasts should be contained within the cup, so nothing should be billowing out the top or squeezing in any way, and, of course, there should be no gaping. that would mean it's too big we want to turn around to the back. it's not riding up or pulling down. it's perfectly flat where it should be. you want to be able to fit two fingers snuggly right here. this is fitting you nicely. on the scorecard, this one is a 36c. we have another one from jc penney, barely there, we'll start you in a 34c. >> it's digging in. >> the underwire on the underside of the bra should be flush with your rib kacage.

it's actually very scientific. >> this is the thing. there's no science when it come toss tosss to bras. you take the cup size and band size and substract the difference. it's confusing for women. there ee's something going on called the war plus four. you measure around the underside our your breasts and add the band width and add four to five. but nowadays we're adding one to two inches. >> what happens as we saw happened to your model. she goes in, likes the bra, but can't find the size you dwloink are. what do you do? >> you can find comparable sizes. bras are based on volume. so if you were measured on a 34c you can try a 36 b. go up in the band, down in the cup and get the same fit
