tellez at the headquarters with more on the upcoming ipo. good morning, marla. >> good morning, jon. facebook's ipo is set to happen at the end of next week. ahead of that, it is a nine-day road show that starts today. hitting the road to try and make their pitch to investors as to why they should invest, why they should buy facebook stock. now ahead of this ceo mark zuckerburg put out this 31-minute pitch video titled the facebook road show movie. you can find it online. i watched it today. it includes the cfo, the vp of product, and of course zuckerburg himself. take a listen. >> most companies are getting started can rely on facebook and know that the vast majority of their users are going to be on facebook and have their connections there already. and that enables a huge amount of innovation to be unlocked.

>>reporte >> reporter: now this right here is something you would expect from facebook, this online pitch. what's interesting is the road show element which embraces good old-fashioned door-to-door networking. according to the "new york times," the road show will include stops in new york, boston, chicago, baltimore, los angeles, and, of course, right here in our own backyard, san francisco. the ipo stock price is expected between $28 and $35. scott mcgrew is also following this story and we know that ipo stands for public. but not as much as you think. >> yeah, when we say initial public offering we mean the bankers. not the people connected to facebook. they aren't your average mom and pop. the average american makes his first purchase after the ipo in the first day of actual trading. check your calendar. if you have a meeting with mark zuckerburg this week, you're part of the lucky first group.

if you're part of the second, the group that buys on the open market, the question becomes whether or not you should invest. i don't give investment advice, but it's hard not to look back at some of the ipos of the past and hope we're seeing it again. let's take a look. apple ipoed at $2.75 adjusted. today it was worth or friday it was worth $565. google ipoed at $85 a share, friday's closing price, $596. even linkedin ipoed at $15. by nancy miller, jon and laura, it's in the kindle bookstore, it's an ebook you can only buy it for your kindle reader or ipad, but it walks you through investment advice. it's good stuff. nancy miller again. >> thank you very much, scott.

new this morning, an oakland man is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in an apparent robbery overnight. it happened on holly street off of international boulevard around 12:30 this morning. police say it appears the man was robbed on the street, but the confrontation continued inside the home. >> and that ended up inside the residence and we're still trying to investigate further. >> police say the man was shot in the chest. the suspects are still on the loose. also this morning, vice president joe biden rocking the boat a little bit the surprise announcement on gay marriage. telling david gregory he supports equal rights for same-sex couples. known for sometimes veering off that script a little bit. but some political experts say the announcement was no mistake and he could be just testing the waters for the president. >> you have to believe that a message was given to those folks in the gay community and those

sympathetic to the gay community who are looking for hope. and if nothing else, it sort of emphasizes there's a difference between the two. between obama administration and the republicans and governor romney. >> we will point out that biden did preface his comments saying the president sets the policy and his opinion does not mean the president now supports it, as well. 5:05. san jose police are celebrating the end of cinco de mayo festivities. all in all, a relatively calm weekend compared to years past. it doesn't mean that everyone stayed out of trouble. 39 people were arrested on a variety of charges ranging from public intoxication to possession of deadly weapons. 12 juveniles who were out past curfew were also taken in to custody. 67 traffic citations were handed out when cars cruising through the down town area snarled traffic. this morning, 76 guns are now off the streets in east palo

alto. that's how many weapons were turned in by this weekend's fourth annual gun buyback program. the city paid $100 for each weapon. the guns will be destroyed. the city launched the program after a 2-year-old was shot to death by a 12-year-old cousin who found a rifle in the family garage back in 2009. the owner of the gun was sentenced to 16 months behind bars. it is 5:06 right now. a north bay officer killed in the line of duty being honored today at the state capital. among ten california officers who died on the job last year. at 10:30 this morning, he and the others will be remembered at a ceremony where their names will be placed on california peace officers memorial wall. now kapu was killed last november chasing a bank robbery suspect. >> walnut creek is hoping to entice a film-making legend to build a new production studio in the city. christie smith live with why the

city thinks this could be a win/win move. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. well, the question is, how do you get a heavy weight like lucas film to move to your city? and probably hope for a little magic of your own. the city of walnut creek is talking about all the perks they have to offer. they did that in a three-page letter they sent to the company, george lucas' company, lucas film, which is, of course, behind "star wars" and "indiana jones" movie franchises. this after the plans for a studio in marin county was pulled. the letter talked about the perks of the shade land business park, open space here, top schools, two b.a.r.t. stations nearby among other things. they haven't heard back, but the idea is generating quite a huge buzz. >> police are short staffed, our library is looking at short staff. and this would help bring an influx capital in the form of taxes, then i'm all for it.

>> look at "star wars" and where it's at now 25, 30 years later. i think the possibilities are endless. and it brings a tax base to boot. hopefully they make it here. >> now, they may have a little bit of an edge because the city's economic development manager once helped pixar to move to emeryville in 2000. city leaders haven't spoken with film executives about exactly what they want in a site. other cities have reached out too includining vallejo. reporting live in walnut creek, "today in the bay." looks like the weather force going to be with us all week long. >> if you work indoors with air-conditioning, it will be with you. if you work outside, you want to hydrate all day today. temperatures maxing out in the 90s. now, what i can tell you, peak warmth today, we're going to gradually decrease your temperatures as we head

throughout the week. still, holding on to those 80s. we're in the upper 50s here in san jose. mainly clear, cool start, headed toward the 80s. building breeze today. we stay warm just about every single day this week. we don't have any rain chances in the next seven to ten days. keep that in mind. as a result, we're going to dry out all those beautiful green hills. we're going to lose those very quickly. so enjoy them while they last. 80 degrees at noon inland. 86 degrees at 4:00 p.m. i'll tell you how warm it will be in your city coming up. and might get a little bit of a break from the warmth. 5:09 first, let's get you out that front door with mike. >> and we'll give you the update to 280 at 92. the southbound side, a car hit a deer. car overturned on its roof. the deer, unfortunately, was killed as a result of this accident. but the driver to the car, well, no injuries are reported. so we should be able to move the car from the scene quickly. although, one lane may still remain blocked as the deer is

there and we have to wait for the right authority group to get there to clear the lane. smooth drive as far as the speed sensors. southbound 280 at 92. saying with the maps, highway 24 eastbound, construction through lafayette blocking a lane. heading toward that walnut creek interchange, no major slowing, not a lot of traffic. this is opposite of your main commute. it's only 5:10. live look outside, 880 through the east bay, as well. northbound with the taillights past the coliseum. construction, north of high street up to 23rd, but no slowing, one lane blocked, but that should be cleared in time for that commute to kick in right about 5:30, guys. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. some say it's too many walgreen's, why some say they do not need another drugstore. plus, protecting the north bay from flooding. the multimillion dollar project the county is working oncoming up. and a rogue investor gives yahoo less than four hours now

welcome back, everyone. live look outside. bay bridge toll plaza approach this morning. looks like it'll be stacking up pretty soon. early, though. looks like it's moving smoothly. it is 5:13. there's another walgreen's opening up in san francisco, but some neighbors are not happy about it. they say there are too many of the chain stores already in the russian hill neighborhood. the newest site at the old tower record store at columbus avenue and bay street. it'll bring that number now in the area to three. a walgreen's spokesperson says the new store, this one will be different and include groceries. san francisco has a total of 68

walgreen's stores. united airline pilots looking to ground high-flying executive salaries. pilots now upset management has received pay raises despite ongoing contract negotiations. they complain they're still working with a contract signed in the wake of 9/11. pilots asking to restore benefits given up to keep the airline operating. yahoo has until 9:00 a.m. our time our face a lawsuit. big drama in that big board room. >> this ultimatum came from the yahoo investor who revealed scott thompson didn't have a computer science degree. he has given yahoo until 9:00 to fire thompson. now that's almost certainly won't happen. the yahoo board has its issues, but caving into threats they'll see as a mistake. will thompson, though, step down later or be fired later? that may be up to the board. this is one of yahoo's

independent board members, and according to the "wall street journal," he is leading the investigation into what happened at yahoo, why yahoo not only claimed thompson had a computer science degree, but put that filing made to the government and then thompson signed off on those documents. now, the other thing we need to talk about are the elections in europe. here you see voters in greece voting on sunday. they have kicked out their government, the one that was working with germany to stabilize the euro. and then in france, a socialist one. there he is. holland has kicked out the president of france sarkozy. they'll go into august elections with this man in charge. this is absolutely a slap in the face at germany and its attempt to stabilize the euro. that has a lot of people worried on wall street. let's check in with jackie at cnbc. good morning. >> good morning, scott.

well, yeah, the futures are lower this morning as you said. investors reacting to those election results in france, germany, and greece this weekend. the new leadership or the lack of definitive leadership could throw the prospect of budget cuts and austerity measures into doubt which would then raise fresh concerns about europe's debt crisis. the asian and european markets in the red today. and we're going to get one piece of economic data on consumer credit with reports on inflation and the trade deficit. stocks dropping on friday on the backs of a disappointing jobs report. the dow falling to 13, 038, the nasdaq losing 58. more food makers and restaurant chains jumping on the gluten free bandwagon. dominos is going to sell a gluten-free crust. there's anheuser-busch rolling out the lite cider. it started selling the first

gluten-free beer in 2006. and pf chang's is adding items to its menu. and amtrak conductors are trading in their phones for iphones. they've been trained to use the iphone as a ticket scanner on a few routes including san jose to sacramento. by the late summer, about 1,700 commuters will be using the device and passengers will be able to load a bar code on their phones and the conductor will keep track of all the people aboard the plane. >> thank you very much. i still have my corporate blackberry. it doesn't cost any money -- >> does it work? >> yeah, you can make phone calls on it and e-mail. you can't do anything fun. >> angry birds -- >> angry birds on my phone. >> you're supposed to be working. >> collectors items. coming off a gorgeous weekend. you said to head to the beach, and we did. >> you don't want to be stuck inside playing angry birds.

it's going to be warm, you want to dress for the two parts. you want to adjust your schedule. if you're someone who likes to walk the dog or go for a run outside, you want to try to do so early this week. as we hit noon, temperatures in the 80s. high uv index back out there. you'll need your sunscreen all week long. and we have a spectacular shot of the moon we're going to show you in a minute. did you see the supermoon over the weekend? it was phenomenal. 57 degrees in san jose, not quite as full out there right now, but still getting a clear shot of it because we have mostly clear conditions this morning. one of the negative impacts, you've probably been sniffling and sneezing over the course of the weekend with all of the blooming happening here in the bay area. as we head throughout the week, that's going to be a factor, we will have a high pollen count. you want to keep that in mind and try to limit your outdoor exposure. but we're looking better toward this weekend as we get a little system of low pressure that will cool us off and bring back that

onshore flow. high pressure over the great basin. as it does so, this will be the warmest day of the week. warming as they pump from land to sea. that means for us today, 90s on your temperature map in places like los gatos and gilroy. meanwhile, 74, perfect conditions, in the city by the bay today. tomorrow, we're going to cool you down just a touch. increase your clouds as we head through the evening hours. but talking about a lot of sunshine yet again tomorrow, 82 degrees by wednesday, and then we hold on to the mid-80s all week long into the upcoming weekend. don't forget, mother's day this sunday. check your drive with mike. >> that's right. this sunday. looking over here. an accident that has cleared, that's good news, southbound 101, no injuries. even construction that was on 17 and on 280 right around the interchange has all cleared as well as the slowing. 17 slowing, that's pretty typical about now, but we'll track that, make sure nothing sticks around. route showing a nice, smooth

drive up to north bay shore. 280 also moving smoothly, but the southbound side, the accident still blocking one lane. right around 92. another accident reported at embarcadero, but chp is sorting out the two. they say it does sound like it's probably the same accident reported at two separate locations. they're nearby. again, watch south of 92 on the southbound side. one lane is blocked there. further north, looking at the golden gate bridge in a nice, easy drive. the earlier crew has completed its work heading north, now we're ready for the morning commute southbound with these headlights and a quick look over at the bay bridge. toll plaza, light and steady and light down the east shore freeway. no delays, guys. back to you. >> thank you very much. well, now we tell you about an ambitious project. marin county leaders laying out the $71 million project over the weekend that would create the tension basins. now, this ten-year work plan is designed to protect the region from the kind of massive flooding that caused $100

>> and i'm jon kelley, and it's one of the east bay's most scenic drives. and environmentalists say they want to keep the road that runs through niles canyon pristine. live along that drive on why caltrans wants to bring in the bulldoze bulldozers. bob, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, jon. environmentalists in a few hours outside a meeting in fremont where caltrans will discuss widening the road that runs through niles canyon, that's the road we're on right now. there have been hundreds of accidents, several deaths on this road over the years. and making this one of the most dangerous in the area. and i think you can get a sense just from the live view outside of our windshield here why it's a six-mile, two-lane road, it's very windy and narrow. gets narrow, more windy as you go further into the canyon. and it's so narrow that there's a few places to pull over and turn around. in order for caltrans to widen it and add medians to make it

safer, the agency would have to cut down hundreds of trees and widen it. that's where they have a problem. two groups. construction would be devastating, they say, to the habitat, to the snakes and the red-legged frog. both of which are already endangered. the environmentalists also point out this road has become much safer ever since caltrans installed rumble strips down the center line. now, they ask why does caltran have to spend $80 million widening the road when instead it can look at signal lights, median barriers or more rumble strips to make the road safer. now, the alameda creek alliance last year to stop the project. the judge did issue a restraining order for the first phase, but that does not affect the next two phases. this meeting i mentioned this morning is --

>> did we lose him? >> yeah, we apologize, we lost the signal for bob redell. literally driving on the road taking you through the niles canyon area. more on that coming up in a live report. 5:32 right now. some 30 people are homeless this morning after a fast-moving fire destroyed two apartment buildings in san francisco. started in the stairwell sunday morning within 15 minutes it went from one to four alarms. three firefighters were injured when a staircase collapsed. three others were hurt fighting that fire. many people inside the building barely escaped. >> -- my mom and my brother and all the people in the building, they are safe. and even in the building, all the people are safe. that's the major thing. thank god for that. >> investigators working to figure out what sparked that fire. >> a new report finds blame on several fronts in a deadly fire last year. two firefighters died inside a

house in the diamond heights neighborhood last june. federal investigators conclude the steep terrain was a factor, but also analysis of the situation and poor communication among responders contributed, as well. the fire department's own investigation blamed poor radio communication and said the excessive heat caused them to fail. the company that wrote the book on social media is selling stock offerings for the future. live in menlo park where facebook is launching a road trip to pitch the ipo. good morning, marla, looks like an interesting prospect. >> most definitely, jon. good morning. and when facebook goes public at the end of next week, it is expected to be one of the biggest ipos in history. the menlo park company expected to be valued at some $100 billion. the ipo expected to raise about $5 billion. still, the executives here are going on a nine-day road show to pitch their stock to investors. they'll be stopping in

majorities throughout the u.s., including new york, chicago, l.a., and san francisco. officials say coo cheryl sandberg and cfo are going to handle most of the face-to-face pitching, though mark zuckerburg is expected to make a few appearances. how they plan to turn the more than 900 million users into a steady stream of cash. most users don't like the idea of facebook becoming a haven for ads and zuckerburg knows this. >> we all use facebook, we all have a lot of things there. but if it's suddenly our news feed is showing up with all kinds of advertising, we're going to bail. we're not going to come back. he needs to tread really carefully not to anger users. >> now, the stock prices are expected between $28 and $35 a share. that ipo is set for may 18th. we're live in menlo park, marla tellez, "today in the bay." yahoo's board of directors

facing a daunting deadline today. a group of shareholders demanding they sell the new ceo by noon. at issue, scott thomaspson's resume. stating he has a degree in computer science, he admits he never received. shareholders sending a letter to the board calling it unethical conduct and they claim if yahoo doesn't let him go, they will take legal action. there could be some reslation for a high-stakes fight between oracle and google. a federal jury in san francisco expected to deliver at least a partial verdict in a copyright infringement trial. this is the first phase. oracle accusing google of building the popular android software by stealing technology from java, then programming that platform from oracle's property. >> i'm thinking about a whole different kind of java to start my monday morning. >> yeah, exactly. great, great temperatures for today. in fact, a little higher than

this weekend, right, christina? >> yeah, you could go straight to the ice java because we're in the upper 50s across the bay area. san jose at about 57 degrees. live look at san francisco. little hazy here, but almost completely clear. fog trying to form, not really going to be able to. we might find a few ragged patches. sticking to the coastal mountains, but overall, looking nice and clear to start you out. that sun coming out early means the temperatures are going to start climbing once it does so at about 6:10. cool start, clear conditions. afternoon, 80s, upper 80s inland, couple 90s, as well. and we've got a warm week ahead, just about every single day this week holding on to the mid-80s inland. all works out like this. at noon today, 80 degrees inland, 69 degrees by the bay and a touch cooler at the coast. if you wanted to hit the beach today, yo ur goiu're going to g phenomenal conditions. and i'll let you know what that means for your tuesday and your pollen count, which has been rather high lately. we'll talk all about that in my

next report. first, let's check your drive with mike. >> we continue to update folks on 280. southbound just around vista point, basically 92 is a good landmark. we have one lane blocked, overturned car, maybe a few more on the shoulder. activity on the southbound side after an earlier accident involving a deer hit and killed there, as well. and we are following this, but no slowing shows up yet. the speed limit or close to the 50s, as well, passing by the immediate area of the accident. further south 101 is where we're watching the motorcycle accident which has moved to the center divide. no major injuries to the driver and no slowing south past moffett boulevard. the interchange 237, 85, and 101. that triangle will pick up the volume a bit. we'll jump over towards antioch looking at highway 4, and this is not so bad for 5:37 in the morning. we're down to 28 miles per hour for the l street sensor. slowing through the area that we expect antioch clearing by loveridge.

and the bay bridge, your commute direction is just fine. the construction mark there is 24 eastbound through lafayette. and that should clear up over the next 15 to 20 minutes. we'll track that toll plaza and look at the oakland area as we see the volume. not a problem, guys. back to you. >> 5:38 right now. the salary cap could come off for future california state university executives. this week, university trustees will consider lifting that 10% limit on salary increases for new presidents. they are also considering using more foundation money to pay those salaries. critics say the money should be instead be used for student scholarships or instruction. the trustees meeting today and tomorrow in long beach in advance of a public session on wednesday. the plan to give san francisco young people a free ride on muni faces a major hurdle this week. last week, they approved a pilot program to provide free passes for low-income youth. but the program depends on $5 million in funding from the metropolitan and transportation commission.

the construction through lafayette. let me give you a peek at the poll plaza itself. and we'll see the volume of traffic toward the bay bridge. toll plaza, steady increase in the traffic flow, and look, we see some slowing now for these cash lanes on either side of the fast track. the volume building for the east shore freeway, as well. we'll likely see the metering lights turn on in about 20 minutes. keep track of this. back to the maps, you saw the lighter volume and the smooth drive down the east shore freeway. lafayette is not a problem and they should have the construction cleared up towards 680 over the next 20 minutes. it should be completely cleared. right here, this will not clear. highway 4 jams up, speeds in the 20s as you approach 6:00 all the way through antioch holding steady at the limit through pittsburgh and bay point. pretty typical pattern. as well as coming out of the altamont pass, 580, 17-minute drive slowing into livermore. you're okay through and then bogging down the area on isabel and interchange, that dublin interchange, the construction
