i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to this morning. let's check that forecast with christina loren. >> it was a hot one yesterday, we've got another one on tap for today. also still dealing with very high pollen levels. we'll talk about that coming up this morning. it is mild enough to where you can walk out your front door sans jacket in places like san jose. livermore in the 50s, headed toward the 90s in some cities. your full forecast in moments. first, let's check your drive with mike. >> i did get the sprinklers fixed at home. we'll see if they work today. westbound 80 at 9th in san francisco. you see the slow sensors, sounds like the off ramp may be closed for another half hour or so. we'll track that, but that could affect you heading to the civic center. take your next exit. city streets pretty light right now. you know, through lafayette, the construction blocking one lane there as well as southbound 680 right at the walnut creek

interchange. no slowing, light volume of traffic as seen in this live shot past the oakland coliseum. smooth flow of traffic. the few taillights moving smoothly. this morning, tragedy in an east bay neighborhood. >> a mother and daughter shot to death found in their own home. what we know so far. good morning, bob. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you laura and jon. pleasanton police tell us it was the father who came home from work last night around 6:00, entered his home here on stacy court and inside found his wife already dead from a gun shot wound, his 13-year-old daughter also shot but still alive. he called 911 and an ambulance rushed her to eden medical center where she later died. the mother was amy freeman burton, 37 years old, the daughter amy freeman, she was a student at hart middle school. police aren't sure what led up to the shooting. they did interview the father at

headquarters saying he helped out by answering questions. they say he is not a suspect. police won't say whether this was a murder/suicide. we spoke with a neighbor who said they were a sweet family who had just moved to the neighborhood a few months ago from missouri. reporting live here in pleasanton, bob redell, "today in the bay." also this morning, an east bay toddler fighting for her life after being viciously attacked by the family pit bull. the 2-year-old girl being treated in oakland after being bitten on the face and legs in her family home on rose lane in concord on monday. a neighbor who did not want to appear on camera said the dog was always on a leash but did not appear friendly. another neighbor had this to say. >> the dog was not a problem. was not out unattended at any time i'm aware of. and i'm sure -- >> this dog is now quarantined and it is possible charges could be filed against the owner if the dog has a known history of

being aggressive. 4:33, and this morning, a safety warning about a sexual assault suspect who lures victims with a friendly handshake. police are advising women to be careful along the bike path in livermore. that's where a young man who calls himself gabe approached a woman on monday. officers say he extended his hand to her as a greeting, then pulled her close and groped her. the woman yelled and ran away. the suspect is still on the loose. police say there have been at least seven sexual assaults along bike or jogging paths in that city since 2006. and we have new information this morning on the victim of a deadly officer-involved shooting in oakland. the man killed during a police chase early sunday identified as high school senior alan blueford. he ran from officers attempting to make an arrest, and he pointed a gun at the officer before he was shot. now, one of the police was wounded after he accidentally shot himself in the foot.

bluford was on probation for burglary in san joaquin county. the cia and fbi claim they stopped a vicious bomb plot targeting a u.s. flight. they prevented a suicide bomber from using another underwear bomb close to the anniversary of osama bin laden's death. you may recall the one that fizzled and burned a confessed al qaeda operative christmas day back in 2009. defense secretary leon panetta says the new bomb was designed to pass through the best u.s. airport security. >> this country has to continue to remain vigilant against those that would seek to attack this country. and we will do everything necessary to keep america safe. >> on sunday, u.s. officials say an american drone like this one killed al qaeda's top commander in yemen where this plot originated. it proved to be a deadly combination, a valium and alcohol overdose to blame for

the death of famed painter thomas kinkade. he was found dead in his home near los gatos last month. the coroner's report shows kinkade might have been taking the drug ghb. he did battle alcoholism during his later years and suffered from heart disease and hypertension. time is running out for protesters to unoccupy land. occupy squatters have been camping on the site for two weeks. they say they're trying to protect it from development. berkeley says it needs the land to begin its june research project and is willing to negotiate with the protesters. but so far, the occupiers have ignored deadlines and ultimatums and are refusing to leave. san francisco teachers working overtime today out on that picket line. they'll be staging a protest at 5:00 outside san francisco unified school district offices on franklin street. the union unhappy over layoffs and district demands to cut $30

million from the salaries and benefits over the next two years. a strike authorization vote will be held later on this week. this morning, plans to open a walmart grocery store are delayed. they want to move into the meadow plaza shopping center that's been vacant for two years. but a city council member asked to delay the decision after labor groups questioned walmart's alleged involvement in bribery to expand in mexico. the council will revisit the issue next tuesday. 4:37 right now. some like it hot and if that is the case for you, you probably liked yesterday. christina loren says more sun's coming. >> more sun is coming. and you know what? those microclimates are really starting to distinguish themselves. it was just beautiful yesterday, spectacular in the city. oakland, great conditions, but downright hot inland. and today, more of the same. the only difference is we're going to see a little bit more coastal cooling with a little bit stronger onshore flow this morning. however, gusty offshore winds

coming through the east bay hills this morning. keep that in mind. temperatures are mild to start. we're starting out so mild the temperatures will easily touch on the low 90s just like they did yesterday. gilroy, you hit 93 degrees yesterday. it's hard to believe we're seeing temperatures as warm, but just about as warm today. today, up to 86 degrees by 4:00 p.m. cooler at the coast today, cloud cover to start, but overall, looking like a very similar day to what we saw yesterday, basically a repeat performance. we do have changes on the way. i'll take you through your seven thf day forecast. mother's day right around the corner. >> well, we'll tell folks about construction going on overnight roadwork, road crews hard at work, southbound 880 at the 92 interchange. toward the san mateo bridge. and the transition is open. the san mateo bridge itself was issued overnight wind advisory by chp, might be gusty conditions heading over the high-rise, but not a consistently heavy flow of wind

or traffic for that matter. dumbarton bridge to the south, maybe for the high-rise there. keep that in mind. look at the bay bridge, further to the north and don't see the camera shaking. there's the toll plaza and a smooth drive here. the camera not showing any shake and across into san francisco, the golden gate bridge, let's take a look at that. and we do have the road crews moving those cones. and these crews heading from the north to the south. that may mean the construction at the north end may be clearing. i'll check on that, but it was scheduled to be there for another 20 minutes. so that's possible. quite possible. watch for the crews over the next few minutes. >> thank you very much. how about this story. thief by day, illusionist by night. an oakland suspect pulling quite the disappearing act leaving a whole lot of officers simply baffled. a 19-year-old man somehow managed to slip off his handcuffs while sitting in the back of a patrol car near 7th and jefferson streets last night. he bolted the car leaving the cuffs on the car seat behind as a little gift for his captors. he's still on the run this

welcome back, everybody, on a tuesday morning. a calm look outside. it's san jose. you see a few cars flickering back there with their headlig s headlights. the traffic very smooth, but it's very early. warm forecast ahead. mike will fill you in on the traffic. it's 4:43. and secretary of state hillary clinton is calling on pakistan to do more to make sure its territory is not used as a launching pad for terror attacks. during a visit to new delhi, india, clinton said the u.s. showed its commitment by offering a $10 million bounty for the extremist said. accused of master mining the 2008 attacks . and chen guangcheng believed

to be at a beijing hospital says his relatives remain under threat. the 40-year-old recently escaped house arrest and took refuge in the u.s. embassy in beijing. the u.s. and china have agreed on a deal allowing him to study abroad on an american fellowship at nyu law school. 4:44. prime minister benjamin netanyahu is calling off early elections. perez made that announcement today saying netanyahu reached a deal to bring the main opposition party into his governing coalition. the move could impact any possibility of an israeli strike on iran's nuclear facilities. it could also help netanyahu fend off a variety of challenges from other political parties. so far, no direct word from netanyahu's office on that deal. futures are mixed after a mixed up day of trading. for that and the rest of the

news before the bell, we turn it over to jackie at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, jackie. >> good morning, jon. well, the futures are pointing to a lower open at this point. as investors continue to consider the impact of elections in france and greece this past weekend. there are concerns that the future of budget cuts are in doubt as the country's parties struggle. european markets down this morning, asian markets mixed overnight. no major economic data in the u.s. tonight. but we are going to get earnings from the likes of directv, wendy's. the nasdaq edging up about one point to 2957. meantime, bank of america says the first group of homeowners should start receiving letters this week offering to cut the principal on their mortgages. the offer is part of the $25 billion settlement banks and lenders reached earlier this year. b of a saying 200,000 homeowners could qualify the average monthly savings of about 30%. you have to meet certain

temperatures running about five degrees cooler for your wednesday, but today just about as warm as we were yesterday. temperatures are nice and mild to start. 55 degrees in san jose. and if you're trying to get outdoors, you want to go for a run, take that dog for a walk. you want to do it early today, especially inland because temperatures will climb to about 80 degrees by noon. so rapidly warming temps once that sun comes up at about 6:10. 51 degrees in san francisco, we're in the upper 50s here in san jose. warm conditions yet again today. offshore flow is fully in effect. we're seeing the offshore winds for today. now, tomorrow, things are going to change just a little bit. stronger onshore flow, more of the coastal clouds, the natural coolant coming off the pacific. and for us that means a cooler day overall. we're going to warm you back up after wednesday. temperatures climbing even more so. wait until i show you the seven-day forecast. 88 degrees in los gatos. 89 degrees in livermore. 88 degrees in san jose, and 82

it's 5:54 right now. let's check in with mike. >> the entire team all across the newsroom is shouting about that. we'll look over here. folks over in walnut creek. we talked about eastbound 24 through lafayette. and no slowing. and southbound 680 just passing by that interchange. the interchange opened in all directions and no problems south of the bridge across the water. north of there, looking at westbound 80. just got this in so i threw it into the map system, westbound 80. this is far enough north for most of our drivers, but if you have friends approaching the area, we have a couple of lanes blocked by wood debris. so far they should remove that without any incident. but that could be a bigger problem. i'll track that for interstate 80. westbound highway 4 moving smoothly. no delays through antioch, pittsburgh, or bay point. a few minutes too early for antioch. we'll check on that in a few. we had the wind advisory, from
