fiasco, one of wall street's most highly publicized initial public offering has now become one of the most criticized. two congressional committees are investigating the bungled ipo and two separate lawsuit ts have been filed, alleging average investors were misled. >> let's do this. >> reporter: last week's facebook frenzy on wall street has turned to -- >> i've never seen anything like this. >> reporter: nasdaq blames a software glitch, after an under whelming showing on the first day the share price has tumbled. >> everybody was on the same page, everybody thought there was tons of demand, but now we know that wasn't the case. >> reporter: that could be because of reports that investment banks guiding facebook's ipo process shared negative information about the company's financial outlook with selected clients. before the stock hit the market. >> perhaps they decided to dump their stock, which is a lot of the reasons why this stock has been in free-fall from the beginning. >> reporter: morgan stanley, the

lead underwriter for facebook's ipo, says the procedures complied with regulations, nonetheless the financial industry regulatory authority is looking into the company's actions and the senate banking committee is said to be preparing its own review. >> there are so many things, that could be happening from now. heads could be rolling. shareholders have filed a class action lawsuit against morgan stanley and facebook, claiming ipo documents concealed negative information about revenue growth. >> you can't tell me there isn't one investor in that facebook ipo that wouldn't have wanted to know that information. >> reporter: a facebook spokesperson responded we believe the lawsuit is without merit and will defend ourselves vigorously. fire struck a nuclear powered u.s. navy submarine at a shipyard in maine injuring six people. firefighters responded to the fire on board the uss miami yesterday with some suffering

heat exhaustion, all were treated and released. the fire started in the forward compartment of the sub and atomic reactor was not operating and was unaffected. the fire has since been put out and no word on cause. in pakistan this morning, the doctor who helped the u.s. track down osama bin laden has been convicted of high treason. he was sentenced to 33 years in prison. he ran a vaccination program for the cia collecting dna and in an attempt to verify bin laden's presence at the compound in pakistan where he was killed a year ago. the u.s. has called for the doctor to be released. meanwhile a u.s. drone strike on suspected islamic militants in northwest pakistan is likely to increase tensions with that nation. ten people were killed, it follows a similar attack in the same region yesterday which killed four suspected militants. tensions with pakistan had already been running high over a

continuing stand-off over nato supply routes in afghanistan which pakistan has closed. now here's a look at other stories making news "early today" in america. in texas an off duty sheriff's deputy fought it out with three robbers right on his front lawn. as the deputy wrestled with one attacker, a woman, who was part of the group, tried to free her accomplice, then ran off to get help from the third robber. all three suspects escaped, only to be arrested later. in ohio, two gay men were attacked in a diner. witnesses say the suspect used anti-gay slurs during the assault. one of the victims was knocked unconscious, while the other suffered broken facial bones. police are still looking for the attackers. in michigan a helicopter was used to drop nearly 1,000 hot dog, all part of a contest to see how many hot dogs one person could scoop up. the winner was able to collect

76, winning a year's worth of free weiners and $1,000. there you go. finally, in texas, one of the most famous girl scout cookies is getting a little more fattening, just when you thought it couldn't get better, it did. a family known for deep frying food at the state fair was commissioned by the girl scouts to use their magic on a samoa, after trying five methods, they settled on a winning recipe which they call the wonton. >> for a look at the weather here is bill karins. you're shaking your head in disbelief. >> i need to defend the hot dog. you'll go all in on the deep fried coconut girl scout cookie but you make fun of the hot dog. >> falling from a plane on to dirt as people are scooping it up? five second rule. >> good morning. yesterday we saw temperatures

cool off dramatically in many areas of the northern rockies and all the way up through the northwest. we are watching cool temperatures as we go throughout the day today too. much of the country, a lot of people will be doing some traveling over this memorial day weekend. the heat has moved from the desert southwest into the middle of the country. the temperatures have dipped. 48 in salt lake city. 95 for a high the other day. 42 in boise. a lot of instability shower out there and cold air mass and that's the case during the day today even around seattle and portland, see breaks of sun and get the cumulus build up and showers and isolated areas of thunderstorms. only hot weather left is starting to exit. not much left in southwest. some showers moving on to on shore coastline area of the northwest. so just be prepared in the northwest for a little bit of

here are some of the top headlines this morning. at a senate hearing yesterday, the director of the secret service apologized for the sex scandal involving agents and prostitutes before president obama's trip to columbia. he insisted to skeptical lawmakers that what happened was an isolated incident. in new jersey, this is disturbing video, the mother of a toddler who briefly got stuck in an active washing machine that was seen by millions she and the boy's father are not the people. she didn't know about the incident or that the son was briefly hospitalized until she saw the video on the news. she says the woman in the video is the girlfriend of the boy's father who probably will not be allowed to baby sit any more. >> an english stuntman wore a wing suit to jump from a helicopter from 2400 feet. here's the catch.

he data point have a parachute. during his free fall he reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour but was able to swoop down to a soft landing on to a huge pile of cardboard boxes and walked away without a scratch. now here's an early look at one of your top headlines. a new study finds too much calcium may increase heart attack risk. calcium is needed for bone health but those taking large amounts of supplements were found to have an increased number of heart attacks. the study millirems no one over 50 take more than 2,000 milligrams a day. for more information check out the health page at msnbc.com. now here's an early look at how wall street will kick off the day. the dow opened at 12,496 after

losing six points. the s&p was up two and the nasdaq added 11. overseas trading this morning, in tokyo the and make the kay gained six points but in hong kong the hang seng fell 119. growing worries about greece's financial future rattled investors for most of the day. eu officials stepped up contingency plans for a possible greece leaving the euro zone. germany is holding fast to demands that greece remain in the euro zone and uphold its bailout commitments. after the bell, hewlett packard shot up on better than expected quarterly profits and sales. earlier hp dipped on news it's slashing 27,000 jobs to cut operating costs. earlier investors punished dell sending shares down 17% after weak earnings. facebook actually rose 3% despite news of those shareholder losses we told you

about earlier. the stock has tumbled 30% since friday's debut. elsewhere utilities and health care stocks led the day's declines. walmart, however, bucked the downward trend to close at a new 12 years high. and petsmart surged 13% on strong earnings. oil tumbled below $90 as u.s. supplies continue to grow. yesterday los angeles became the largest u.s. city to ban plastic bags at supermarket checkout lines. passengers with kids who are not elite members of united airlines will no longer receive early boarding privileges. finally, finally, your ketchup bottle frustration could soon be over. thanks to something called liquid glide that lines the inside of the bottle and prevents sticking. the genius invention recently won an m.i.t. student $100,000. this is a game changer. the reds clubbed the braves.

good morning if you're just waking up this is "early today." in sports last night, in the nba playoffs, philadelphia sixers held on to force game seven against the boston celtics. here is fred roggin with an early look at all the sports headlines. good morning, the celts had a chance to close out the sixers, but billy came to play. game six, defense was a key for the sixers. the defense didn't allow the celts to score more than 20. jrue holiday to andre iguodala. philly took the lead, iguodala to clearance, soared over paul pierce, capped and 11-0 run. kept it going in the fourth. the sixers won it 82-75, force game seven on saturday. the other series in the east has gotten dirty now the league is trying to clean it up. suspended udonis haslem for this foul on tyler hanseborough, happened after hanseborough took dwyane wade down. league suspended dexter pittman

for a flying elbow on lance stephenson. that will cost him $22 grand. game six is tonight. hockey, tough to win a game when your own teammate is trying to score on you. the devils peppered goalie lundquist with three goals in the first ten minutes of the game. rangers came back. martin brodeur, that tied it at three. the devils had plenty left in the tank. ryan cut near front of the net. new jersey wins 5-3, they can wrap it up friday. brave and reds tied at 1 in the 9th, solo shot to right, first career walk off homer, that would explain why he didn't see this coming. the dreaded shaving cream pie to the face. he will take that any day of the week. the reds walked off 2-1. that is the early look at sports
