out here, as well. there are reports this morning that this is an officer-involved shooting. and it's unknown how the suspect might be their condition this morning. and we're also hearing that an officer may have been bitten in the leg by a dog. i do have several calls into the vallejo police this morning. and haven't heard back yet. i can tell you that this block, which is right near the island and the water front right now behind us there is a white car with a door open and a police car there, as well. there are reports there may have been a chase that led up to this. it's a residential area, number of apartments on the west side of virgin of vallejo. this started some time around mid nigh. and again, i will keep calling vallejo police. that's what we know now. family of murdered nursing student michelle lei. vigil was held marking one year since her disappearance. now, exactly at the time she was last seen alive, balloons with notes written to her were released. the family of the missing morgan hill teen, sierra lamar also attending that event. lei was a nursing student and last seen leaving class at a hayward hospital. her body was found four months later in pleasanton. a former high school class mate has been charged in lei's death. new concern this morning about a possible construction defect on the new span of the bay bridge. a newspaper investigation finding a potential problem with the section of the concrete foundation. bob redell is live at the bay bridge now with the details for us. good morning. >> good morning to you, marla. and you can imagine with a project this size there's a lot of concrete used. and under the water, underneath the suspension tower, it'll be holding up the bridge.

and whenever you pour concrete, you must let it harden first and then test it. which workers we understand have done. in one instance they did test a 19-foot section of concrete. that supports that main tower. they tested it before it had a chance to harden. and now it's too late to perform that task. raising questions about whether that concrete cured properly and whether it's actually structurally sound, enough. this is according to caltrans' own records provided to the "sacramento bee" newspaper. and also found errors in other parts of the bridge. caltrans says the bridge is safe and could withstand any earthquake -- reasonable earthquake. and they plan to give a point-by-point response to this newspaper in the coming days. >> across the board, we saw that particular concrete that's performed very well. we do cylinder strength tests for the concrete pours that are

done out there. >> this new bay bridge is costing taxpayers $6.5 billion, making it the most expensive public works project in state history. it's scheduled to be open in just over a year. labor day of 2013. reporting live here at the bay bridge toll plaza, bob redell, "today in the bay." right now, work is continuing around the clock on the dumbarton bridge. the span has been closed since friday night. caltrans crews install a steel plate underneath the deck. it will allow the bridge to move in the event of an earthquake. >> so replacing the original with a new extended -- that gives the deck an additional 18 inches of movement in a seismic event. >> officials say they'll have a better idea today of when that bridge will reopen to traffic as of now. the plans to have it open in time for the tuesday morning commute. now, of course, the bridge everyone was talking about was the golden gate, which

celebrated that 75th birthday this weekend. thousands attended the festivities which were crowned last night. and by an incredible fireworks display. more on the weekend highlights in about ten minutes. a former stanford university president known for taking action against student protests during the vietnam war has died. the university says richard limen died of congestive heart failure. he was 88 years old. he served before serving the stanford president from 1970 to 1980. he and police come on campus back in 1969 after students broke into the main administration building and vandalized it. former president and former governor of california ronald reagan may soon have a special place at california's capital. the assembly approving the first ever installation of a former governor inside the capitol building in sacramento. lawmakers say they'd like to honor reagan because he's the only california governor to become president.

private donations will pay for the construction and maintenance. the state senate still has to approve this measure. no arguing there's certainly a chill in the air as you walk out the door on this monday morning. christina loren, what can you tell us right now? >> it's not too bad out there. we're at 55 degrees here, 52 in oakland, probably need that jacket up in santa rosa where temperatures are in the low 40s. nonetheless, we're headed toward the 70s. going to see a warm-up this week that brings your temperatures from the low 70s today to the 90s by thursday. we've got a really warm end of the week on tap. today, though, seasonal for this time of year. inland at noon, 74 degrees at 4:00 p.m. bay side, cooler, and you'll see that cloudy condition at least until about noon. your highs look pretty much on track with our seasonal averages for this time of year. by tomorrow, we're going to warm you up by about 5 degrees and continuously warm up all the way through the end of the week. make sure you stay tuned for that seven-day forecast,

president obama will be there a little bit later for a wreath-laying ceremony on this memorial day. always an emotional shock. well, this one is a familiar expression. the only thing certain in life are death and taxes. well, now experts say in this day in age add digital data. they say people need to remember to take care of things like online bank accounts to social networking information after they have passed to the afterlife. financial planners recommend designating a digital executer of your assets. >> take one document with the account name and the account number and another document with the pass words and keep those separate and someone can put them together if you died and figure all that out. >> and there are several online sites which offer digital estate planning help. well, former british prime minister tony blair has just finished testifying into the investigation into that phone-hacking scandal that's been gripping britain. scott mcgrew has been keeping his eye on that.

>> good morning, marla. this is that special commission set up that came under scrutiny after reporters at some newspapers hacked into people's voice mail, including the voice mail of a teenage murder victim. blair has been accused of having too cozy a relationship with those newspapers. he defended himself this morning saying those newspapers attacked him, his wife, and his children, though the relationship was close enough that blair is godfather to murdoch's daughter grace. david cameron may testify next month. now, back here at home, no stock market report to give you today as the equities and bond markets are closed for the memorial day holiday. the dow fell more than 74 points on friday. this coming friday, we get the latest job numbers from the labor department. they've been really grim lately. the economy added just 115,000 jobs in april. the last month measured. the unemployment rate unchanged at 8.1%, worst yet, more than 4

out of 10 americans are considered long-term unemployed, 27 weeks or more with no job. if you're like us and you are working today, jon, it's really more of a blessing than anything else. >> good point there, scott. thank you very much. well, it was one big party out on the san francisco shoreline last night celebrating the golden gate bridge's 75th anniversary. but for a small group of people, the golden gate bridge has very special meaning in their lives. stephan stephanie has the story. >> i just bought it because i thought it was a beautiful automobile. i wasn't caring much about the history in those days. >> reporter: but for over 50 years now, robert schultz has been driving a piece of history, this cadillac convertible he calls mayflower. >> it's held franklin roosevelt in many parades. >> reporter: it was also the first to cross the golden gate bridge when it opened in 1937 behind the car that day

somewhere was baby schultz in his father's arms. ever since, the bridge has transcended local history. an imprint on his family time line. >> when i turned 60, i said, dad, i don't feel 60 years old, could there have been a problem on the birth certificate? and he said, you were 1-year-old when they opened that bridge. >> reporter: and apparently this car it was love at first sight. >> he said, you peed on my jacket when that cadillac went by. >> reporter: he bought it for a little over $100 in 1958. we also saw rosy the riveter and dozens of car classics to accompany all the memories. >> the car and i are the same age. 76 and still going. i was a year old then, so the bridge is younger than i am. >> reporter: speaking of memories. >> he did get scared hanging over the side. >> reporter: eileen and her family walked miles along the water front in honor of her father who helped build the bridge from '33 to '36, he

passed away a few years ago, he would have been 100. >> he thought it was a good job and brought money home to his family. he said i was just lucky to have a job. >> reporter: a job that's grown into a legacy. >> truly beautiful. it really is. it's very beautiful. i'm glad we can be here to honor my dad. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. wrapping up with a spectacular fireworks display that illuminated the entire bridge. a waterfall of lights, lasers and colorful fireworks combining for, yes, you could say breathtaking show. the best part here, the weather. that's right, the weather cooperated. the fog decided to stay away for the entire show so it was crystal clear for all those lovely fireworks. well, if you're going to plan on that memorial day ba barbecue, what can we expect? >> you can expect -- >> i like it. >> hamburgers.

good thing. and jon kelley, hopefully, in a nice springtime ensemble. we've got a good-looking day shaping up. it's going to be warmer than it was saturday and sunday. but not as warm as we're expecting this end of the week. some of the warmest conditions we've had all year so far. i've put 90 degrees on your seven-day forecast, which i'm e reluctant to do. we could see triple digits, and some of the warmest cities across the bay. thursday and friday looking very warm. but today, the coolest day of the workweek. calm conditions, now we're talking about how you're able to see those fireworks last night. the winds stayed nice and breezy. that fog wasn't able to settle to the surface. this morning, we are expected the winds to drop off. a sustained wind speed at 18 miles per hour in fairfield. once the wind drops off, the fog settles in. temperatures are really mild to start. we're in the 50s right now in san jose. 58 degrees in fremont, 60 in san jose as you break for lunch.

meanwhile, close to 70 degrees in antioch. as that breeze picks up, that fog clears. whatever does form between the hours of about 7:00 and 9:00 isn't going to last as long as it did yesterday. 70 degrees in redwood city, 70 in los gatos. san francisco, not getting all that warm, nor in oakland today, but by the end of the week, talking about 80-degree readings, even bay side. we've got a really warm week ahead. i want to make sure you're ready for it. take a look at this, 91 degrees by thursday h 85, holding on to that warmth on friday. and saturday and sunday, we're going to get a few more clouds. that coastal cooling, the natural a.c., the marine layer coming in from pacific. that's going to cool us off saturday and sunday. and that means comfortable conditions for the weekend. but if you have not had to do it just yet, you might be kicking on that a.c. toward the end of the week. we'll let you know which cities will be the hottest. i'm going to send it back to you guys. >> thank you, christina. believe it or not, there was another major celebration going on in san francisco this weekend.

shaking it. yeah, it was carnival, the parade made its way through the mission district to harrison where there was a festival. carnival is an annual celebration of latin, american, and caribbean cultures, it's been going on for more than three decades in the city. and organizers claim it is the largest celebration on the west coast. huh. who knew. i lived in the city and i didn't see any of that on saturday. >> there was a lot going on. >> i missed out. >> plenty to see. >> 5:16 right now. coming up, how about justin bieber in the limelight. not for singing this time. why the young cat could be in trouble with the law. >> uh-oh. the suits beat out the tights at the box office. how the latest men in black installment did in theaters. and a live look outside the embarcadero as the sun is slowly starting to peek up over the horizon. enjoy the lights. and we're changing it up.

welcome back. we've got to give some love to the bay bridge. the golden gate got all the love over the weekend as it turns 75. this is a stunning shot on this monday, memorial day. meteorologist christina loren will be along to give you the latest in your forecast. your time now is 5:19. pop star jtin bieber being investigated for getting confrontational with a photographer. a photographer claims bieber hit him after he took pictures of the 18-year-old singer and his girlfriend. the photographer was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. i didn't know bieber could hit that hard. bieber right now being investigated for possible battery.

bieber's representatives did not immediately respond to messages seeking a comment. >> don't underestimates the biebs. >> no. well, right now the suits. >> "men in black iii" debuting at number one, raking in $55 million domestically in the first three days of release. will smith and tommy lee jones blasted disney's "the avengers" in second place after three blockbuster weekends on top. in third place, board game-inspired action movie "battleship" which brought in $10 million during the second weekend in theaters. >> really. we've got a really good looking day shaping up. temperatures this morning are mild to start. we're in the 50s. 55 degrees in san jose, 54 in livermore. which means if you're tough enough, you can walk out the front door sans jacket. foggy coastline, 80s return to the warmest cities across the bay today and the 90s and triple digits certainly possible as we head toward the end of the week. a lot to talk about in the full forecast. 62 degrees at noon inland, 74 degrees at 4:00 p.m. 65 bay side, so cooler day today by the coast and at the bay. you'll probably need that jacket until about noon, you can take it off as temperatures climb toward the seasonal averages. we will get to that full forecast. that major heat wave on the way coming up, 5:21 right now. i'm going to send it back to the sunken battleship. >> all right, christina, thank you very much. well, the giants, yeah not a very good record down in miami

lately. the orange and black dropped 10 of the last 13 games against the marlins in south florida, but the g-man changed that last night. turns things around, melky cabrera, oh, yeah, he hits a home run to put the giants on the board. then top of the sixth, giants leading here 2-1, buster posey showing some of his own flex appeal. takes that one to center. cabrera scores, giants up 3-1, giants hang to win by final 3-2. they snap out of a two-game funk. meantime, the a's, yeah, not so good this weekend. hosting the yankees at o.co. the yankees score two runs and that's all they need. they out shut the a's out. well, we have cooler weather here, but things were heated in the midwest for the indy 500. hundreds of people treated for heatstroke at the speedway. the temps reached 91 degrees during the race. that's just one degree short of the all-time high set in 1937.

a question about whether the new concrete in the new bay bridge was allowed to properly set. i'm bob redell with the latest coming up. developing news out of vallejo this morning, an officer-involved shooting and one officer is hurt. i'm christie smith, i just spoke with a man who heard the commotion. you'll hear from him coming up. and it's a mostly cloudy and cool start to this memorial day. i'll let you know when the clouds are expected to clear your city when the sun comes out. and we've got a heat wave on the way to the bay area. a lot to talk about in your full forecast. and we give you a live look on the other side of the country. that is the arlington cemetery out there where later on today president obama and his ceremony will come out and lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. it is monday, memorial day may

28th, "today in the bay." good morning, everybody. the time now is 5:28, i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. new this morning for the second time in three days an apparent police shooting being investigated in vallejo. christie smith is live at the scene with some of the details for us. christie, you just spoke to somebody who heard all the commotion. >> yeah, that's right, you know. and i just spoke with an officer who is out here mapping the crime scene, and he said the good news is that their officer who was injured overnight will be okay after what's believed to be an officer-involved shooting here on wilson avenue. this started, we're told, right after midnight, still trying to confirm details, but there are reports that this started with a police chase of a white sedan that possibly was stolen that ended near some apartments here

with an officer-involved shooting. now, it's unclear how the suspect involved in this is doing. but we do know that at least two people were inside of that car. and an officer may have been bitten by a dog in the leg possibly bitten by a police dog. now, i spoke with one resident who tells me he heard the response. >> describe the commotion you heard. >> sirens, tires screeching, two minutes later, gun shots. >> how many? >> five to eight. >> did you know what that was? >> a gun, i'm 24 years old, i know the difference between fireworks and gun shots now being out here in vallejo. >> you saw a lot of police cars? >> yeah, a lot. plenty of them, more than vallejo has themselves, all them. >> now, i asked officers on scene this morning how much longer they might be here and they said they just don't know.

i also have several calls into vallejo police this morning. as soon as i hear from them, i'll let you know what they have to say. reporting live in vallejo, christie smith, "today in the bay." police right now investigating a double shooting that killed a 16-year-old boy. this all happened around midnight at a home on virginia avenue. near the interchange of 101 and 680. police say they found two people with gun shot wounds including a 16-year-old boy who died at that scene. another man was taken to the hospital, he is expected to survive. police at this point have not yet made any arrests but say the killings appear to be gang-related. well, the bay area community is showing their support for the family of murdered nursing student michelle lei. a vigil was held in hayward on sunday marking one year since her disappearance. at exactly the same time she was last seen alive, balloons with notes written to her were released. the family of missing morgan hill teen sierra lamar also attended the event. the nursing student went missing after leaving classes at a

hayward hospital. her body was found four months later in pleasanton. >> it's a reminder it can be anyone's daughter or sister be taken the next day and not to take your loved ones for granted. >> a former high school class mate has been charged with lei's death. her trial is scheduled for september 17th, which is exactly one year from when lei's body was found. marla, there are new concerns this morning about the safety of the new span of the bay bridge after a probe uncovered a possible construction defect. bob redell is live there with more on this ongoing investigation. bob, good morning. >> good morning to you, jon. and this has to do with the concrete being used in the new bay bridge that workers have been pouring concrete. they're supposed to let it harden and then test it to make sure it cured properly. well, in one instance, there's a 19-foot section of concrete. this is in the foundation that's supporting the main suspension tower of the new bay bridge. that was tested before it had a chance to harden.

the builder allegedly kept quiet about this. now it's too late to perform that said test raising questions about whether or not concrete cured properly. this is according to caltrans own records provided to and reported by the "sacramento bee." the newspaper also found several errors in the testing of concrete in other parts of the bridge. caltrans has responded saying that the bridge is safe and it is going to be seismically sound. >> bottom line, we are extremely confident that the quality of the foundation of the bay bridge. we see no issues whatsoever with respect to that foundation. we'll be prepared over the next couple of days to develop a point-by-point response. >> at a cost of $6.5 billion, the new bay bridge will be the most expensive public works project in state history. it's scheduled to open labor day weekend of 2013. reporting live here at the bay

bridge toll plaza, bob redell, "today in the bay." veterans are gathering to take part in a cross-country journey. soldiers from the iraq and afghanistan wars along with other athletes will take part in the sea to shining sea bike ride. a way to honor troops and the american spirit. they will leave chrissy field today to begin a three-month, 3,700 mile trek that will end on a virginia beach. well, on this memorial day, a tribute to victims of the 9/11 attacks. about observance and remembrance of that will be held at the memorial site in union city. the names of the 40 victims will be read and their memories honored for their heroic actions to stop the hijackers. and police at stanford hospital who served in the military receiving a special honor this memorial day. starting on monday, all patients and employees who identify themselves as u.s. veterans will be giving a red, white, and blue wristband.

the idea is the wristbands will publicly identify veterans giving people a chance to come up to them and say thank you to those vets and perhaps encourage some conversations between patients, as well, as visitors about their service. now a stanford hospital employee is the one who came up with this idea. lots of people getting the barbecues ready today. do you have any memorial day plans? >> you're looking at them right here. >> working away. hard worker. christina loren, how are the temps going to be later? >> yeah, if you've got to go to work today, if you don't have the day off, feel comfortable knowing we're in that boat with you. 55 degrees to start, a great-looking day for barbecue plans, hitting the beach, and outdoor activities. maybe your tradition is throwing that football around. later on this afternoon, it will be comfortable enough to do so. but the first part of the morning, little bit cool and cloudy up in the north bay where we have readings in the 40s this morning. grab that jacket, you probably don't need one in santa cruz or san jose where temperatures are now in the 50s.

this morning we're going to see foggy conditions at the coastline. we're talking about mostly cloudy skies, though, inland. so that fog right at the surface will be a factor probably as you make your way up the peninsula probably having to use your windshield wipers for drizzle this morning, but the 80s are going to return today. 3 to 4 degrees warmer than yesterday. if you want to hit the beach, a great-looking day to do so. 76 degrees in santa cruz in the heat of the day. we are expecting a strong onshore flow, though, dealing with mostly cloudy conditions and drizzle at the coast and bay side. until noon after which time that sun will come out in full force and we will see really comfortable conditions. up to 65 degrees bay side at 4:00 p.m. now, if you've been waiting for warmer weather, today is the unofficial start to summer. we are going to get summer-like readings this week, 90s on that temperature map. i will get to those numbers coming up. right now, i'm going to send it back to you guys. >> okay, christina, thank you. still ahead, a very somber commemoration in washington this weekend for the memorial day

celebrating and honoring the fallen heroes of our country. christina loren will be along to talk about the weather coming up in a matter of moments, it's 5:39. new this morning, at least 24 more people are dead after a central syrian city hit by artillery overnight. this brings the death toll to well over 100. and a very violent weekend in that country. activists are blaming government troops. this amateur video here claims to show protesters filling the streets across syria on sunday after a massacre on saturday that killed at least 90 people. now the video has not been verified by nbc. saturday's killings involved the use of artillery which only government forces have. >> so the evidence is clear, the evidence is not murky. and there is a clear footprint of the government in this massacre. we condemn, of course, this action as a flagrant violation

of the resolutions. >> syria's representative to the u.n. lashed out calling the observations lies. syria's government denies any involvement. at least 27 people are dead in a bus crash in western india. authorities say one vehicle slammed into a mini bus that had a flat tire. the impact pushed the first mini bus into the second one crushing the people standing between them. most of those killed were traveling from a wedding. in japan right now, two men being held in connection with the death of an irish exchange student. one of the men found inside the hotel room with where the 21-year-old student died. the two men, the student, and another woman met at a concert earlier in the evening and returned to the hotel together. so far, the men had not been charged with the murder. and in china, a 60-foot span of a bridge collapsed taking four construction workers with it. and somehow, nobody was

seriously hurt. this all happened as crews worked to repair a large span of that bridge over the weekend. the project's chief engineer says the collapse was caused by rain that had soaked the foundation. well, across the country, people will stop to remember those who died fighting for our nation on this memorial day. in washington, d.c. over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of bikers seen here remembered their fallen colleagues from the vietnam war. they also mourned those lost and captured in afghanistan. army sergeant bo bergdahl has been a p.o.w. there for almost three years. >> bo, if you can hear me, you are not forgotten, and so help me god, we will come home. we will not leave you behind. >> storms cut short the concert featuring jessica sanchez. meanti meantime, today, flags are on every grave at arlington national cemetery. president barack obama will

place a wreath on the tomb of the unknowns and visit the vietnam memorial. if you're planning on spending memorial day at a park, there are plenty of great ones in california and across the entire country. tracie potts is live on capitol hill with this morning's best of list for things to get out and see. good morning, tracie. >> good morning. really great ones in the bay area according to the trust for public land. they came out with the park score rating and we're going to tell you what your park score is because you landed number one out of the 40 cities that they looked at. they looked at things like access. how many people in the area can get to a park walking within ten minutes, how much space is set aside for parks? you know, local and regional and federal parkland, as well. and how much are you spending on parks. the break down in the bay area for san francisco number one out of 40 in this survey, over 5,300 parks in the area. it's a high number compared to

the others we looked at this morning. over $290 per resident spent on the city's parks. and that is what really bumped you up to the top. plus, they say the most visited park, the park people seem to like the most in the area is golden gate park. >> tracie potts, thank you very much. it was a big weekend out there at the golden gate bridge this weekend. we had a lot of fireworks and a lot of people out there. >> thank you. well, a severe weather system is causing chaos in the south. earlier this morning, tropical storm beryl made landfall in the florida coast. forecasters say there could be possible flooding, but its effects are being felt in georgia. on sunday, massive trees came tumbling down. gusts as high as 45 miles per hour have been recorded. speaking of weather. let's check right in with our meteorologist christina loren find out what's happening in our area. good morning. >> good morning to you. now i'm our meteorologist,

before i was just yours, jon, just yours. 53 in concord and 54 in oakland. we've got a really good-looking day shaping up. it'll be warmer today than it was yesterday and especially where we ended up on saturday. today's highs close to 80 degrees in the warmest cities across the bay. and through the week, this will be the coolest day of the workweek. we have got a temperature climb on the way. 55 degrees to start you out in san francisco. all the way to the coastline. and i do believe we'll see some drizzle between the hours of about 8:00 and 10:00 in particular as we see the thickest marine layer starting to settle down toward the surface. now the 80s are expected in the warmest cities across the bay. plenty of sunshine for today, here in san jose and livermore, mid-70s. warming trend brings your temperatures up by 5 degrees tomorrow, an additional 5 degrees through the upcoming wednesday and thursday and friday looking like the warmest days of the week, 90s definitely possible. we will see the 90s in san jose.

>> uplifting out there. another popular attraction at chrissy field, the road trip through history. this was a showcase of those vintage cars from 1937. that, of course, was the year the bridge first opened to modern hot rod. well, one of those vintage cars was the very first to cross the golden gate in 1937. robert schultz of martinez has been driving this piece of history for quite some time. this cadillac convertible was the first to cross the bridge when it opened in '37. he was a baby in his father's arms on the bridge that day and in 1958 he ended up buying the car for $100. now it's part of his family history. >> when i turned 60, i said, dad, i don't feel 60 years old. could there be a problem on the birth certificate? he said you were 1 year old when we went across the bridge. >> and then this woman came with her family to honor her late

welcome back, everybody. giving you a nice live look. the freeways in san jose, very empty on this monday, memorial day. everyone's still in bed as you should be. time now 5:52. well, the senate wants the department of transportation force airlines to drop a practice that could keep families from sitting together on flights. several are lining up some new fees in place now trying to charge as much as $59 extra for preferred window or aisle seats. that means some people traveling together can't even sit together unless they pay extra. senator chuck schumer calling on the department of transportation to step in here. he's also asking airlines to

reconsider the pricing scheme altogether. well, get ready, facebook is going to be embarking on a new business venture. the "new york times" is reporting several facebook employees say the company hopes to release its own smartphone by next year. the company has already hired more than half dozen former apple software and hardware engineers who worked on both the iphone and ipad. one of those engineers says he met with facebook ceo mark zuckerberg who asked him detailed questions about the inner workings of smartphones. facebook has not commented on the report. well, that "dragon" capsule making news again this week. scott mcgrew says doing something no unmanned capsule has ever done before after visiting the space station. >> yeah, it's going to come back. and that's never been done. normally the astronauts take delivery of food and water from one of those unmanned russian capsules, fill it with trash and dirty laundry and send it back to burn up in to the atmosphere.

space x wants its capsule back. it will return full of trash and dirty laundry, but it's going to splash down in the ocean like the old apollo capsules. the new heat shield is a new one, by the way, designed at nasa. the stock market is closed this memorial day. the dow closed lower on friday. we get the may job numbers this coming friday. the greek markets are, unfortunately open. unfortunate because they fell to lows on friday. greece looking at unemployment numbers we have not seen since our great depression. now, the head of the international monetary fund has stirred up greeks after he says she has more sympathy for children in africa than greek people because children in africa are poor but it's not their fault. and she further stirred the pot and said many greeks don't pay their taxes. her facebook page has exploded this morning. 19,000 people have posted messages there, mostly negative.
