the left showing westbound 237. i will get back here to refresh and make sure it is just a data error. i will check out that slowing heading into the mountain. send it back to you. >> technology. thanks, mike. you will enjoy this one. south bay commuters getting the green light on a nasty stretch of roadway near downtown san jose. >> caltrans will flip the switch at key spots as of this afternoon with hopes of easing congestion. bob redell is live in san jose with an update on the new metering lights. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. anyone who has problem on 280 through downtown san jose during the afternoon commute knows how congested it can be. caltrans is hoping it can alleviate some of that. later this afternoon the age sly turn on metering lights here at 7th street onram and six other ramps throughout downtown. they will be running from here on out during the afternoon commute. drivers will have to wait

several minutes at these onramps waiting to enter. caltrans estimated delays on southbound, 280 with these new metering lights, will go down by 30 seconds per vehicle. you can think of the vehicles out there that does add up. in the fall, state will be turning on metering lights at six onramps in the northbound direction and not just san jose. mercury news reports that was in the next four years, over 300 additional throughout the bay area will be receiving metering lights. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." brian stoes accused attackers due in court today. louie sanchez and marvin norwood scheduled for a preliminary hearing on assault and mayhem charges. prosecutors added federal counts of weapons possession against both convicted felons. now that tack order potential ten-year sentence if they are convicted.

. survivor of a deadly car rampage now speaking out. he's hoping to stop his attacker from being released from prison. he spent the past decade relearning how to live his life. he's still recovering from the emotional and physical scars of being run over by david atia. back in 2001 he plowed his car right into a crowded street killing four people and including his sister. he was convicted of second-degree murder but found legally insane. he's hoping to be release flood an outpatient treatment center. >> not taking account what did you to me, that would be he gets to get a little less three years for each of his murders. that doesn't seem quite fair. >> we can tell you an east bay familiar sly traveling to the hearing in santa barbara to make sure their son who was also

killed in this attack is not forgotten. the hearing is expected to last several days. 4:35. teenager convict of setting fire to one of the largest elementary schools will spend eight years in prison. trace elementary was badly damaged by the six-alarm fire almost two years ago. they were 16 at the time of the fire. both were tried as adults. the second teen will be sentenced in july. the damaged part of trace is being rebuilt and expected to be ready by the start of the new school year. san jose police have identified a 16-year-old boy killed in a double shooting over the weekend. zamura was koyld virginia avenue near king road saturday night. friends have left candles and flowers at the scene. a 23-year-old man was also shot but he's expected to recover. police believe that the shooting was gang related. a seemingly healthy player

with the san jose saber cats is now dead. just days after scoring a winning touchdown. johnny curtain's body was found at an inn in santa clara. a teammate was looking for the 26-year-old when the discovery was made. curtain changed the saber cats a few weeks ago. on his last play on the field, saturday night when he scored the winning overtime touchdown. people who knew him are now speaking out. >> tragic. the highlight of his life over the last couple of years has been -- become a father. and his daughter was -- you know the center of his universe. >> investigators say that it appears nothing criminal happened in this case. the coroner, county coroner is looking into curtain's medical history to try to find more clues about his death. >> in decision 2012 with republican nominations firmly in his grip, mitt romney heads to the bay area today for a fund-raiser at the exclusive carolyn chateau in hillsborough.

breeze you inland cities aren't going to get that much of it. but if you do live on the east shore expect breezy conditions as we head throughout this afternoon. 5 to 10 degrees warmer today than yesterday. near records as we head through tomorrow. very, very warm for this time of year. 90s all over the temperature map. we will take you through the full forecast. drink lots of water. let's check your drive. here's mike. >> folks, let's go back to the map i showed you earlier. eastbound 27237. the connector has the disabled vehicle blocking one lane. i can tell looking at that time map we have more problems. from my technology that's the fancy word marla used. westbound 237 that slowing cleared up. as i said, no incidents reported this. at the bottom of the screen northbound 880 has a slowdown slowing up. no incidents in that area. only construction marked in these spots for 85 to the bottom of the screen around 87. 280 at saratoga. 85 on the left. fremont. we will check on 101 and 880,

that vicinity. so far no incidents. sensors justing as more folks start to hit the road. 4:30 is when you see a bump, slight one, with the volume of traffic. over here, southbound 101 between marsh and university we have construction bringing down to one lane. no major slowing lou palo alto or manuel park. golden gate bridge, clear view of all the lights. smooth drive through the north bay. although there are low clouds hovering around. we will watch as it affects the drive. so far no complaints. back to you. >> okay, mike, thanks. 440 now. memorial day weekend saw fewer arrests but more fatalities on california roads. chp says statewide officers arrested just over 1300 drivers for dui thing weekend. 60 fewer than last year. officers saw an increase in fatal crashes. 25 people were killed in crashes over the three-day weekend this year. last year that number was 24.

welcome back. early out there on the bay bridge tool plaza. not a lot of traffic. as the day progresses and the sun comes up we know that will fill up. mike inouye will be here to tell us about that trend. this morning protesters from the far corners of the globe will gather in the bay area. the target -- chevron's shareholders meeting. several groups plan to demonstrate today. protests are also planned this afternoon wrought side of the company's san francisco offices on california street. the protesters say chevron is destroying the environment. and point to an oil spill in brazil and an explosion on an offshore rig near nigeria. chevron was also ordered to pay

$18 billion for a pollution suit in ecuador. the company stock goes down. facebook getting an emphatic thumb up on the expansion plans in menlo park. the council approving projects that will triple its work force to about 6,600 people. this is part of the deal facebook would pay menlo park $850,000 a year over the next decade. and million dollars for capital improve many and community services. the social network plans to branch out across the bay front expressway. two campuses would be connected by an underground tunnel. things going smoothly so far for facebook in menlo park. on wall street, quite a different story. facebook shares taking another hit yesterday. for that and more we turn to cnbc head quarters. >> that's right. facebook could be called the stock that keeps going away. shares fell 9% in yesterday's trade. closing below $29. pace book is now down 25% from

its ipo price of $38 a share. market value, of course, has dropped with it starting at $104 billion and it is now down to $79 billion. more trouble may be looming for the company. regulators have signaled they may conduct a lengthy review of facebook's $1 billion purchase of instagram. in terms of how the market ended in yesterday's trade and look at how the mark retsz trading now, futures are lower this morning as the european mark receipts slumping. making it that much harder for the government to pay its bill. european central bank rejected the same plan to bail out troubled lender bankia with funds from the ecb. data this morning on pending home sales. that will continue to be a market mover. in terms of how the markets closed last night, stocks rallied after polls in greece showed the public is committed

9:00, mid morning hours. we should see the clearing. as a result of that sunshine coming in early, offshore flow, setting up, temperatures are going to be warm by noon. 67 degrees inland. you will be at 83 degrees later on today. and as you can see, we just keep on climbing as we head through your thursday. tomorrow will peak. 90 degrees inland and 83 degrees in oakland tomorrow. it is going to be a hot one even in the city. i'm going about 80 degrees in san francisco for your thursday. then as we round out the week on friday, temperatures will come down just a touch. they will level off. still staying just about as warm. we start to cool off sunday, monday and tuesday. getting a little bit of shower activity it looks like tuesday into wednesday. we will talk about that coming up. right now i will send it back to you. >> thank you. 4:49 now. cuts could be in the works long term for caltrain. in the short term more trains could start rolling on the tracks. transit agency is meeting tonight to talk about the adding six days to the weekday schedule.

caltrain says the weekday ridership is at a historic side this year with a 12% increase in 20 consecutive months of ridership growth. caltrains says it is not expecting any service cuts or fare increase this year. but that can change next year when caltrain runs out of its one-time only grant money. security breach cause as scare at san diego's airport and security officials say a homeless man released from prison walked right through an emergency fire door, terminal, then went out on the tarmac but didn't stop there. he managed to climb aboard a united plight and made it tall way to a seat before a flight attendant finally realized he didn't have a plane ticket. the plane was immediately evacuated. >> we are going to have to have everyone come off the aircraft. we are going to have to go search -- bomb sniffing dogs. >> that plane was cleared. and now the man is back in jail, facing several charges. tsa officials right now
