possible sexual assault charge. we'll have the latest on pablo sandoval. a high school swim coach on the peninsula has been arrested on sex charges. with an underaged student. we'll hear from some of the swimmers on his team. researchers at ucsf give new hope for those fighting one kind of cancer. the test phase was so successful, it's changing the course of treatment. good evening. i'm diane dwyer. we are on at a special time tonight because of the stanley cup finals. we begin with developing news about giants star pablo sandoval. police are investigating him right now in connection with a sexual assault complaint. the incident happened at the sea scape resort in santa cruz county. nbc bay area spoke with his attorney who told us no charges have been filed and sandoval has not been arrested. for more, mindi bach of comcast

sports net with the latest. >> reporter: pablo sandoval has some tough questions to answer. not by reporters. as first reported by comcast sports net, the third base man is being investigated for possible sexual assault. sandoval met with authorities of the santa cruz sheriff's department, investigating a woman's claim she met sandoval late thursday night and he later assaulted her at a local resort. sources say the woman told police she was too intoxicated to give consent. she did make the report 4:25 friday morning. pablo's attorney said it was "a consensual personal relationship of a sexual nature that took place on that day" and sandoval is cooperating fully. here is giants manager bruce bochy on the alleged incident. >> we need him here and as far as that other stuff, you know, it's -- as you've heard his statement, we're referring all questions to his attorney. but you know, for us, he's got

to get get ready. and that's why he's down there playing right now. >> sandoval is currently making a rehab assignment with "a" san jose. the giants are playing in stockton. he's trying to come back from a broken bone and right now he's 1 for 2 in that game. he has more pressing matters in front of him off the field. >> all right, mindi, thank you very much. police on the peninsula tonight are also investigating a possible sexual assault. in this case, police say they arrested a 25-year-old high school swimming coach in san mateo on suspicion of sexually assaulting an underage female student. we've learned the coach is out on bail and while there is talk of a civil lawsuit against the school district, some members of the swim team at aragon high school are speaking out in their coach's defense. monty francis is at aragon high school with more for us. >> reporter:ed alleged victim is a 17-year-old student here at

aragon high school. she apparently told her mother she had a sexual relationship with the coach. after a period of times. ed that it was wrong. yesterday officers arrested 25-year-old joshua tatro who faces charges of sexual assault on a minor and one count of lewd acts with a minor. a friendship apparently developed between the alleged victim and tatro in the fall and the student claims the relationship then became sexual. there's reportedly evidence in the form of e-mails, text messages and skype exchanges which document the relationship. tonight we talked to two swimmers who defended their coach. >> we got the note, we know he's not a predator. i know he would never intentionally hurt someone. i thought this must have started out as a friendship, like he was helping out a girl and things just -- i think they both just made a mistake and probably feel really sorry that it happened. >> he's a very dedicated coach. everyone looks up to him.

everyone really feels that he's there for us, he'd do anything for us. he's determined to make the best player out of us. he wanted to dedicate his sum to the water polo team. >> reporter: he's posted bail and is out of jail. we tried contactin him by phone but have not been able to reach him. no word yet on a court date. at 11:00 we'll tell you about something surprising we found on his myspace page. tonight, there is new hope for people with advanced prostate cancer. thanks in part to researchers at uc san francisco. during a clinical trial, a drug proved to be so effective researchers stopped the trial early so all patients could start receiving it. the drug is called ditega and reportedly blocks testosterone, a hormone that helps prostate cancer grow. the trial found the drug doubled the time men lived without their cancer getting worse.

the trial involved more than 1,000 people who had stopped responding to traditional hormonal drugs but had not undergone chemotherapy. in an effort to crack down on violent crimes, police in oakland made a deal with gun owners today. turn over the weapon in exchange for a $100 gift card, no questions asked. the offer was part of the 100% strong peace event. a resource fair and rally also part of the event. community members who had loved ones killed in gun violence marched down international boulevard in oakland today. organizers wanted to send a message to the community to get rid of the guns that are killing the city's youth. family, friends and volunteers spent another day searching for missing teenager satisfactory sierra lamar. dozens of volunteers searched an area in the hills near the border of san jose and morgan hill, not far from anderson lake. another large group also returned to the reservoir to look for clues in the water

there. volunteers say they will keep searching until they find the missing 15-year-old girl. >> never give up. never give in. bring sierra home. i just keep hear her saying, bring me home, bring me home, bring me home. >> as for the man charged with the kidnapping and murder of lamar, antolin garcia torres was in court thursday but did not enter a plea. his next hearing is scheduled july 10th. high winds made things difficult for firefighters in san mateo county as they tried to figctht a brush fire there. the fire started around 2:00 this afternoon in brisbane. about 70 firefighters from three cies were called t w the scene. chp closed the bay history boulevard off-ramp to higaydhw 101 for a short time. with the help of two air tankers and a helicopter firefighters got theire under control and no one was hurt. about ten acres burned. officials believe the fire may have been started by a downed power line. about 1,500 residents were without power until about 5:00 this afternoon.

a piece of art with a dark past is back in the spotlight tonight. on display in the bay area city that once rejected it. the so-called portrait of george can now be seen at the san francisco museum of modern art. the bust of former mayor george moscone sparked a great deal of discovery when it was first unveiled more than 30 years ago. the sculpture of the politician who was shot and killed at city hall features bloody bullet holes and other details of his life and death. >> the work was rejected by the san francisco arts commission, 1981. this is a work of art that i've lu lusted after for many, many years. i've always felt this piece had to come to sfmoma at some point. >> the portrait of george is part of a gallery devoted to the artist's work. thousands decked in their finest are in san francisco for

the symphony's black and white ball. a fund-raiser for the symphony's music education programs and nbc bay area's kimberly terry has more for us. >> reporter: starting at 9:00 tonight, these streets will be filled with people and the air with music. the black and white ball, a biennial ant, expected to draw 5,000 to 6,000 people tonight. there will be ten bands on five stages, paul simon, cyndi lauper, the wallflowers and the drifters. proceeds tonight go toward maintaining the san francisco symphony's educational and community programs throughout northern california. their chairperson of this ball says one of those programs in particular serves 75,000 students every year and ensures all san francisco public school students in grades 1-5 receive music education. >> we think music changes children's lives. it shows them another avenue, another purpose, it helps

a day after a disappointing employment report, president obama pushed congress to get to work. he repeated his call for a veteran jobs corps and more aid to states to avoid teacher layoffs. brian moore has that story for us. >> reporter: odd bad bad jobs report is really bad news for president obama. his message to congress this weekend is, get moving, for the sake of the economy. >> our businesses have created almost 4.3 million new jobs over the last 27 months. but as we learned in this week's jobs report, we're not creating them fast enough. >> reporter: the economy added only 69,000 jobs last month. that is less than half of what analysts had expected. and the unemployment rate ticked up to 8.2%. >> consumers are kind of tapped out right now. and that's being reflected in consumer sales. when you have poor sales and you're a small business owner the last thing you're going to do is take on new employees.

skateboarding was in the bay area today. tony hawk is in berkeley for the opening of tony hawk rad science exhibit, teaching people about the elements of physics through the sport of skateboarding. people can ride stationary skateboards to practice balance and go inside a recreated empty swimming pool to experiment with the laws of motion. hawk also performed gravity-defying stunts to illustrate the principles shown throughout the exhibit. >> science and math are my favorite subjects. i never thought my worlds would blend so well together. it's really fun. it's fun to see the kids. it's fun to see them really embrace the exhibit and to participate in it. they actually have things where they can do to show the principle themselves. >> the exhibit features an area nicknamed wipeout ambulance, which marries physics and safety. it shows how you know those helmets and knee pads and wrist guards? they have helped keep skaters

safe. the exhibit runs through september 3rd. right now we want to check in with anthony slaughter on the weather. i have to say it got pretty windy out there today. a little cold. >> yeah. i mean, you really picked up on it. almost like you produced my show. >> okay, then, we're done. >> wind gusts as high as 53 miles per hour in san rafael. even san francisco, good call diane, 45-mile-per-hour wind gusts there. yes, very, very breezy. it is going to continue to remain very windy tomorrow, even for the next couple of days. our pattern is really about to change. places that got into the 80s today, livermore, gilroy, even up toward the north bay, 83, 84 degrees. all of that is about to change. we're talking about locations in the 60s by the time we head into monday. that's where you're at in san francisco today, 67. san jose at 77. all across the board, microclimates in full effect. you can see even still 73 in santa rosa.

fog rushing in toward the east bay, over from san francisco to oakland with temperatures in the 50s there. our weather headlines include more patchy fog tomorrow morning. by tomorrow afternoon, places that got into the 80s today will be slightly cooler, back into the 70s. a very cool coastline. in fact, tomorrow evening, get those umbrellas ready if you live in san francisco. we're talking about drizzle and very strong wind gusts. we have a few clouds scooting across northern california. that's a taste of what's to come. here comes our next system. it has lots of power with it. in fact, this is going to be one of those systems that produces so much cold air, you might actually have to just kind of talk to your friends or maybe family as you head through this upcoming week because what's going to happen is i think everyone across the board is going to feel a shock in how cold it's going to be. talking about places like gilroy where you are at 95 degrees just two days ago. you're going to be at 65 come monday and tuesday. so we're talking about a 30-degree temperature drop once

we head toward monday and tuesday. get ready, drizzle moves in monday, and that very cold air is going to be with us for monday as well. tomorrow we'll start patchy fog likely across the board like today. 52 in san francisco. 55 san jose. 54 in almaden valley. places that got into the 80s, concord, napa, livermore, you'll be a degree or two cooler. cool along the coastline. 64 in san francisco. the three-day outlook includes major cooling. 66 inland monday. we hang out in the 60s for tuesday with lingering showers. and again monday and tuesday look to be a little unsettled with showers, maybe a thunderstorm or two. it doesn't look like we're going to see a whole lot of rain after tuesday. we're back to seeing dry conditions. 80s by next weekend. we get it all this upcoming week. a latest of late winter, then right back into spring. let's check in with windy bach of comcast sports net bay

a boy from minnesota skipped school friday but he had quite the excuse. 11-year-old tyler sullivan was with his dad at honeywell corporate headquarters listening to the president talk about jobs and had the chance to shake hands with the president. the president also wrote tyler an officially excused note. >> i was like, really? he's going to write me an excuse note? "please excuse tyler, he was with me. barack obama." >> ha, that's cool. now he hopes his executive excuse holds up come monday morning. i'm guessing he's not going to hand that over, though. thanks for watching this special edition of
