accused of killing trayvon martin is back in jail after having his bail revoked. the judge in the case accused zimmerman of not being honest about how much money he had access to when that bond was set. zimmerman has a paypal account with more than $135,000 from a website appealing for defense funds. and this morning, laura, there are two pilots dead after their air tanker crashed while fighting wildfires along the nevada/utah line there. so far, no word on the exact cause of the crash. the pilots were fighting a 5,000-acre wildfire in eastern nevada sparked by lightning on friday night. a helicopter pilot who saw the plane go down telling ground controllers, "it does not look good," right before it went down. also sunday afternoon, the crew of another firefighter tanker there had to do a belly landing after it was unable to lower its landing gear. crew members flew that plane for about 90 minutes just to make sure they burned off that fuel
6:47 am
before making an emergency landing. both crew members, well, they were able to walk away from this without a single injury. and this morning, we now know the pilot in a deadly crash in nigeria was american. the commercial airline slammed into a densely populated neighborhood in nigeria's largest city of lagos. this was yesterday and it killed all 153 people onboard. more people died on the ground. engine problems are the suspected cause of this crash. and this crash being listed as the worst air disaster for nigeria in two decades. protesters are back in cairo's tahrir square today. they are calling for new uprisings following the sentencing of former president hosni mubarak. he received a life in prison sentence, and demonstrators think he should be sentenced to death for his involvement of the death of 850 protesters during last year's uprising.

the "today" show is next and meredith vieira is back and more with the queen's diamond jubilee. and a preview of today's star-studded concert. she sat down with david beckham. i wonder if he had his shirt on. he talked about the queen and his role in the london olympics and, yes, yeah. all about the ratings. underwear ads and that kind of stuff. that was an exclusive interview. also, she'll have an interview with celine dion next on the "today" show starting at 7:00. one more gratuitous shot of david beckham. >> good morning to you. rain or shine. >> yeah. if that didn't get you going this morning, make sure you have an extra cup of coffee. we have slick conditions starting to develop across the bay area. starting with san francisco, you can see that here is some moisture on the lens, showers reported, and i've activated the doppler radar.
6:49 am
our coastal communities are getting the first of the wet conditions. 6:48, we've got rain on the way to the bay area. and let's go ahead and start with your temperatures. 59 degrees in san mateo and 59 degrees in san francisco. as we head throughout the day today, not going to see that much of a climb in terms of your temperatures. only about a five-degree jump between now and the heat of the day. right now, showers are coming in, but not much. they're kind of falling apart as they move in. this is kind of a weak front, but certainly going to bring more moisture than we typically see this time of year. area of low pressure's going to ride to our north. the core of low pressure will ride to our north. but we will see a front throughout the first part of the day. we're on the warm side of that front, which is why it's mild out there. cold blast for the second half of the day. and the winds will be whipping around. and we'll have a windchill factor. here it is, find your city on the temperature map, excuse me, on your future cast map. we stop the clock at 9:00 a.m. yeah, starting to get our first
6:50 am
shower. you'll see that pocket of yellow to the north of santa rosa. we are expecting a few embedded thunderstorms within this front. we stop the clock again at 10:00, and you can see here mid-morning hours starting to get more active, showers coming down over the greater bay area. by 7:00 tonight, as you make your way home after a good day of work, we'll get a lot of clearing with post frontal precipitation tomorrow morning. not much, maybe enough to make your highway slick. have no fear, we will be here to guide you on those showers. we're going to climb in temperature, not by much, taking probably a day for our conditions to turn back to the seasonal averages. so 79 degrees by wednesday. that's about average for this time of year inland. we're going to hold on to seasonal averages and a lot of sunshine and good air quality all the way through friday of this week and then temperatures jump just in time for the weekend when you want to get outdoors. 6:50 if you're heading out right now, i bet mike is getting busier with that weather coming in. >> roadways are looking totally busy for monday at this time.
6:51 am
typically see us easing into the monday morning commute. but a few incidents for 24. the accident clearing, but slowing now to the 40s and 50s at the caldecott, at the east shore freeway, causing more congestion past the racetrack and merging off of the bridge. now we're into about 22 minutes, 23 minutes coming off hercules and down toward the bay bridge with the metering lights on. look at this, westbound 580 just jams up coming through livermore, earlier accidents clearing from there, as well. greenville and north flynn. and we're looking at a 29-minute drive. the bulk of slowing into pleasanton and a smooth, slow drive, and south through sunol, that slowdown starts for 680 and the rain comes in a few minutes and continuing through the morning. we're watching for that effect. northbound, most of the areas north of san jose are coke, but 101 and 87 into downtown showing the speeds into the 20s and 30s. getting ready crowded here. we'll send it back to you. >> thank you very much. 6:51, the markets have been open for about 20 minutes or so,
6:52 am
a little over that. i want to check in with scott mcgrew. earlier the numbers were up. >> yeah, and that has changed. good morning, dow industrials have fallen again, although not bad, down about 15 points. kind of a connection of the bay area in both markets this morning. you've got the mlb draft on the nasdaq. and then on the left, on the wall street you have a singer who went to cal. but the dow industrials went downbout 15 points this morning, nasdaq down, as well. well, there goes the neighborhood. the "wall street journal" says facebook may soon start allowing children under 13 to sign up for facebook accounts with their parents' permission. of course, there are already millions of kids on facebook who give a fake age to get an account. one estimate says 36% of those cases the parents actually know their underage child has a facebook account. in many cases, they help them
6:53 am
set up the account. now, before we perfect parents wag our fingers in disapproval. let me point out, that statistics means 64% of the underage kids on facebook have parents who don't know they're on facebook. for some parents, it may become a question of do i allow this and keep an eye on this? or do i say no and the kid is doing it anyways? so big changes coming to facebook. >> thank you very much for that. good news for commuters in the south bay, gas prices starting to fall. two stations right next to each other actually selling gas under $4. yes. the first one, most stop, the second, reporting prices at $3.90 a gallon, that looks great. they're located near the intersection of mckee road and 33rd street. the average price around the bay area has been hovering around $4. 6:53. it's a final boarding call in oakland for united airlines. united ended its service to oakland international airport over the weekend.
6:54 am
the airline has flown into oakland for 75 years. but has seen its passenger rates drop to just 1.4% of airport customers recently. the united spokesperson says the airline will work with customers who had flights already booked out of oakland to either rebook them or provide a refund. meantime, muni reopening its busy line this morning, the route that runs from ocean beach to the caltrains station has been shut down before memorial day weekend. that line carries about 40,000 passengers each and every week. low turnout expected for tomorrow's california primary. and there could be a good reason why. a survey by the public policy institute of california shows that only 17% of voters approve of the job the legislature is doing. 88% think much of the money we give to the state government is being wasted. jerry brown recently announced california's budget deficit had ballooned to $16 billion. of course, stay with nbc bay area for coverage of tuesday's
6:55 am
primary. we'll bring you live reports up to and beyond election day. you can also read more about the candidates and issues on our website, nbcbayarea.com. there's a rally planned, the mayor wants to put a sit/lie ordinance on the november ballot. city council members considering the idea at a meeting next tuesday. tonight, demonstrators gathering at 6:00 at center to protest this plan. the ordinance would apply in berkeley's commercial zones from 7:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night. this is certainly a rare treat for stargazers, the space spectacular with a partial lunar eclipse followed by tomorrow's historic transit of venus across the sun. bob redell live with more on some of these celestial sights. good morning, bob. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, laura. unfortunately the weather
6:56 am
cooperated for the most part before this came in. you did have to get up a little early. this lunar eclipse was between 2:00 and 5:00 this morning. this is what it looked like in san jose before we drove up to oakland at the space and science center. the lunar eclipse is when the earth cast a shadow on the face of the moon. this was a partial only covering about a third of the moon. not going to happen again until 2014 which might explain why you had 30 to 40 people. including his father and three sons who made the trip down. >> i thought it wasn't going to be worth it and why was i going to come here at all? >> reporter: and now several hours later? >> i think i was wrong. >> dad, this must be a great event. >> absolutely. get a chance to take these guys out and spend part of the evening with them as far as the early morning, wouldn't miss it for the world. >> and tomorrow, we've got one of the rarest astronomical
6:57 am
events around 3:00 in the afternoon to just past sunset. venus will transit in front of the sun. this event will actually cast a shadow on the moon. scientists will use the hubble telescope to observe that shadow to see if they can detect the chemical composition of venus' atmosphere. those are planets that orbit other stars outside of ours. again, you can observe this tomorrow if you have solar glasses, certain types of welders helmets. the last time you can do it until 2117. so in over 100 years from now. reporting live in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." there may be no such thing as a free lunch. ask warren buffett and that thing they're auctioning on ebay right now. you can have a free ride. new ferry service between the east bay and the peninsula kicking off this morning. christie smith live at the oakland ferry terminal where she says this week, hey, you don't need a ticket. good morning. >> good morning to you. jon, not a picture perfect day to ride a boat.
6:58 am
but i tell you commuters out here are very excited about this morning. the boat this one's heading to san francisco. but there is a new ferry line this morning between the east bay and south san francisco. we just shot video of that first line this morning at oakland's jack london square. there are two east bay stops, the other is in alameda. the ride is expected to take about 40 to 50 minutes to and from the new oyster point marina there along the peninsula. one commuter told me he hopes to shave about 40 minutes off his commute when he normally would drive over the bay bridge. it's the first bay area ferry since 1992. and the next step in creating a network of these ferries. and the good news is at least this first week is free. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> well, you notice christie had the hood on there. warning us about the rain. >> yeah, you know, she started out with clear skies overhead when she started this show. the weather is changing as we
6:59 am
speak and it'll get more active through the next few hours. you can see right now, showers are coming down between half moon bay and looks hike your north bay cities are getting a little bit of activity right at the coast of sonoma and marin county. but you'll see there is more on the way. it all works out, the bulk of the moisture comes in between 10:00 and 3:00 p.m. then by 4:00 p.m., we'll start to lighten up as you get your way home to work -- home from work. that's when we're expecting a little bit of clearing. make sure you bring that umbrella with you and travel cautiously. we have a new accident to report. the san mateo bridge westbound 92, mid span, reports of an accident involving two cars, i don't know about lanes being blocked, but maybe use the dumbarton as an alternate. early slowing from 101 to san mateo and southbound 880 into hayward and union city. we have big slowing down the east shore freeway, the accident just
