for you. a presidential race turning against the bay area for cash. president obama makes a quick swing through san francisco today. christie smith live at sfo where air force one will touchdown later this morning. >> reporter: good morning. this is an extremely quick trip to the bay area for president obama. air force one touching down before noon. he's going to go into downtown san francisco and then leave the bay area less than four hours later. he is going to be attending two fund-raisers for his re-election campaign. both of them sold out. this comes after mr. obama was just in the bay area two weeks ago for fund-raisers. according to the chronicle he was already coming to l.a. for a big event. figure another stop in the bay area was in order where it is estimated that the cash haul for this quick trip will be $1.5 million. mr. obama will be at the julia morgan ballroom with hundreds of supporters that will pay $5,000 each for lunch and then he will

head to the landmark. governor jerry brown, san francisco mayor, ed lee, expected to be there along with lieutenant governor newsom. demonstrators will plan to be there, too. some they say he will be meeting again with what they call the 1%. from here the president heads to l.a. for an lgbt leadership luncheon. christie smith, "today in the bay." voters in san jose passing a major pension reform initiative setting the stage for bitter legal fight between unions and city leaders. measure b will reduce retirement benefits for government workers. here is a look at those results. measure b is a local measure but it is getting national attention here because other midge or cities want to follow suit on this. san jose mayor chuck reid says no doubt a big win for the city. >> able to restore some of the voiced positions we got, pyre positions we got, libraries, community centers. we turned the corner and the

voters have said okay, enough is enough of cutting. >> city workers on the other hand not happy with this outcome. they claim the city did not negotiate in good faith with the unions. union leaders now vowing to take the issue to court. 4:34. also this morning, tight finish for prop 29. that's the tobacco tax that adds $1 to the price of a pack of cigarettes. tight contest before election day. now with 99% of the precincts reporting, 49% voting in favor of it. 51% voting against it. former state lawmaker says he has been working on the tax since 2006. he calls it a used tax on cigarettes because only smokers would pay for it. but opponents countered the money, wasted. >> money to the general fund or paying off state pensions. it is going to be put into another uncontrollable group no one has guidance over.

>> if proposition 29 passes, the new $1 tax will be alded to cigarette sales later this year. the money generated would go towards cancer research. voters in san mateo county devoted two tax measures aimed at visitors. third one too close to call. measure u which would have raised the county health tax from 10 to 12% was defeated. positive measure x would have imposed business tax on commercial parking lots. you see it was defeated. measure p which proposes 2.5% tax on car rental businesses too tight to call. 100% precincts reported. our election coverage continues on the bottom your screen as well. that's where wear going to see the latest results. you can get them on nbc bay area. >> election day in other states as well. voters in wisconsin rejecting an attempt to recall controversial governor. that's republican scott walker.

he won decisively in spite of the decision last year to strip public employees of their collective bargaining rights. now this win could make walker a gop superstar for taking on the unions and surviving. last night the governor thanking voters that supported him at the polls. >> we tell our country and we tell people all across the globe that voters really do want leaders who stand up and make the tough decisions. >> republicans you spending the democrats by 8-1 there. some analysts question what a republican victory in wisconsin could mean to the presidential race. exit polls show wisconsin voters backing president obama over mitt romney by nine points. the showdown over same-sex marriage headed to the supreme court. ninth circuit court of appeals in san francisco refusing to reconsider the ruling that struck down prop 8. supporters of prop 8 say they will now ask the supreme court to hear this case within the

next 90 days. if the just itses agree to hear the case arguments could be heard early next year with a decision of june 2013. time is running out for the alameda county board of supervisors to fill that seat. the narrowed the candidates to two. if the board is not passed by june 19 the decision will go to the governor. lockier resigned april 20 after struggling with drug addiction. in other news he didn't pull the trigger but an east bay robbery suspect will face murder charges for the death of his alleged accomplice. three men tried to rob golden treasures store in san ramon last wednesday. the store's own earn ended up shooting one of the suspects who layer died at the hospital. this week prosecutors chrnlging a second suspect with murder. using a little known law that holds an accomplice responsible for the death of a crime

you. 4:48. send it back to you guy. >> thank you very much. nine jurors have been seated in the trial against former penn state football coach jerry sandusky. jury selection was expected to take several weeks. yesterday was actually the first day of questioning. three more jurors and four alter natures still need to be chosen. he's charged with sexually abusing ten boys. opening arguments are scheduled to start on monday. a pretrial hearing will be held today for u.s. army private bradley manning. he is the intelligence analyst accused of leaking hundreds of classified documents to wikileaks. among others, man sing us expected of leaking video after 2007 u.s. helicopter attack on iraqi civilians. there is a large wildfire forcing evacuations. it burned more be a thousand acres on the western side of oahu. came within feet of homes and got so close they thought it might burn but the fire is now headed in the opposite direction. that's good news. wind changing. this is hawaii's largest wildfire so far this year.
