i'm marla tellez in for jon kelley. >> lots to get to. let's check that forecast we're talking about with christina loren. >> good morning and welcome to the hottest day of the year so far. you want to make sure you're ready for it. throw that water bottle in the freezer if you work outside. we're already in the 60s. 60 degrees in livermore, san jose starting out at 60 degrees and close to it in san francisco, 57. triple digits on my map for today. we'll let you know when we're going to get heat relief. first, let's check your drive on the back to work monday. >> folks already at work overnight so we have a full closure to tell folks about in the east bay. northbound 680, basically between rudier and geary in the northbound direction. we have the full closure. there is a detour, there is a disruption slow there. you are back on, follow the signs and allow five extra minutes just in case you have trouble seeing the detour signs.

a little dark out there. close to the maze, notice service to the flow but we'll outline in the next report. >> 4:31. tee time in 2 1/2 hours t pros are in town for the golf championship. this is u.s. open week in san francisco with practice rounds beginning at 7:00 a.m. damian trujillo is live in daily citygearing up. >> reporter: tiger woods is a headliner. he has the 7:00 tee time followed by y bubba watson. the city couldn't be happier. daly city and the bay area are expected to cash in on this tournament. hundreds of millions of dollars are expected to pour into the local economy as people flock to see tiger woods and phil mickelson and all of the other golf greats. police warn about gridlock in daly city and surrounding areas. 45,000 people are expected to

drive on john daly boulevard each day. that might be fine with the locals. a conservative estimate is that by sunday the economy will receive a $100 million boost. >> historically what the u.s. open has shown it's able to generate north of $160 million. in montgomery county they were able to do that and in san diego. i would say here in the bay area, probably about $100 million. >> reporter: and the big draw is obviously tiger woods, even with all of the baggage he's been playing with, fans still want to see if tiger will inch closer to jack nicklaus. they are encouraging you to park at candlestick park. there will be free shuttle service and also if you pak b.a.r.t., park at the colma station. the last time an american won the u.s. open was in 2010, last

in a few minutes. >> shot in the throat while out for a drive. a woman lucky to be alive after a burst of violence on the east bay interstate. the woman says she heard a loud popping sound and realized her throat was bleeding while driving on 80 sunday morning. the bullet went through the rear passenger door and headrest before hitting her. police say she managed to drive herself to the hospital where she is now in stable condition. the woman says she didn't see cars on the road at the time of the shooting. there is no reason to believe the woman was targeted. >> three union city men face murder charges in connection with the deadly shooting at a south bay hot spot. 18-year-old jimmy ho and andy ho along with 19-year-old johnny blah were booked. they were involved in a shooting at a karaoke bar on center road. a 25-year-old man was shot to

death. investigators believe the attack was gang related. this was san jose's 18th homicide of the year. >> closure for a heart broken mother who lost her mother and two sons. ramos will be sentenced for killing anthony and his sons michael and matthew. they were driving through the excelsior district when ramos mistook one of them for a rival gang member. one son survived. he and his mother are now in the witness protection program. >> funeral services will be held for a south bay teen killed while visiting his grandmother in oregon. nick had just finished his sophomore year at st. francis high school. last monday police say his uncle used a hunting rifle to shoot the teenager and his grandmother who also died. it happened in the driveway of her home near portland. police say the 41-year-old man

confessed to the shootings. no word on his motive. >> a new bus route today. the 83 x mid market express runs from fourth and king street to the civic center station on market street. the line runs during peak hours from 7:00 to 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 to 8:00 at night, monday through friday. >> a south bay transit agency wants to hear what you think about a proposed light rail extension. the santa clara valley transportation authority will host a public meeting today for feedback on the project and its draft environmental impact statement. it would run between the exi existing alum rock station. the meeting is at 5:30 at the evergreen community center in san jose. >> high temperatures prompting a high ablert fire danger. add to that the wind and it's shaping up to be an early fire

season. we've seen several fires since friday including this one in san jose. statewide, firefighters have already responded to more than 1600 wild fires this year alone. that's twice last year's total at this time. firefighters say they haven't seen anything like it in the past five years. >> our fire season really from 2011 really extended well into 2012, and other than a respite in the months of march and april we've pretty much been watching the weather and seeing a lot of the fire season conditions throughout the wintertime. >> of course, typically the busiest season for wild fires doesn't come until late summer and early fall, but high temperatures expected today, all this week. >> christina, i think you said off the top of the show, going to be the hottest day of the year so far. let's check the forecast. >> indeed it is. good morning to you. it's starting out so mild, we are in the 60s. welcome back to monday. and you know what, today is no

the hottest day so we're going to gradually drop your temperatures throughout the rest of the week. in fact, falling to the low 80s by about thursday or friday. but for today we're talking about triple digits in the warmest cities across the bay. livermore, 60 to start. 60 in san jose. sunnyvale, we've got a warm day shaping up. your noon readings, 89 in fairfield, 87 degrees right here in san jose. make sure you're ready. i had to include the triple digits in fairfield, 101 there, 89 in redwood city. you know if you live in the bay area for any time to see this is rather unusual so we might be breaking records. i'll let you know if that's the case. the seven-day reveal as cooldown. 4:39. first here's mike. >> good morning. we'll take you where we left off last time. to the east bay map, the maze, construction. 680 northbound, that closure, that's why they are rerouted.

the sensors are slowing. top middle, construction, eastbound away from the maze, also away from the bridge the transition on southbound 880 as overnight closure t alternate is 580 to 980, back to 880 where you have more construction south down to where i marked and then toward high street. a few spots to watch. a live look out there at high street and heading northbound. no problems with the flow of traffic. the taillights north and southbound a lighter volume with the headlights. good news all the way to the san mateo bridge. back to the maps, the traffic flow as well, in the east bay, the hot spot, westbound highway 4 at loveridge, they are opening up lanes for the project westbound at love ridge. we'll see if that affects the flow on the overpass. a little welcome change there but we may see a disturbance to the flow. back to you. >> mike, thanks. 4:40. today is 50 years since the

famed escape from alcatraz. people close to the case are revealing what they think happened after three inmates made it over the prison walls. on june 11, 1962, frank morris and brothers clarence and john england escaped from the rock. the u.s. marshals say result of more than a year of planning. no one know the men survived but a sister of clarence and john says she believes they made it out and are still alive. >> the only reason they put them in alcatraz was because they could not keep them anywhere else. they kept getting away, getting away. >> if they survived all three men would be in their 80s now. the fugitives' families along with u.s. marshals will be at alcatraz prison national park to talk about their roles and belief about that escape. >> i always think that is a fascinating story. 4:41. coming up, tinseltown here in silicon valley. why the south bay is in the spotlight. >> here is a live look at a

health care law. the largest health insurer says it will still cover preventative care without charging a co-payment. it will also not impose a lifetime dollar limit on how much a policy can pay out to cover claims, that could benefit people fighting cancer or suffering chronic diseases. futures are higher as investors react to the deal for spain getting up to $125 billion from the eu to shore up its troubled banks. the rescue makes spain the fourth to seek aid since the crisis began. european markets are higher on the news, asia rose, as far as the u.s. market, we've got new data today but we get reports on producer and consumer prices, retail sales and consumer sentiment. stocks are coming off of their best week of the year t dow rising 93 points to 12,554, the nasdaq rising 27 points friday to 2858. hopefully, guys, we can hold on

good morning. give you a live look in the south bay. this is san jose. looks to be a gorgeous start to your morning. look at the clear blue skies. the port of oakland, i'm telling you, reminds me of star wars. >> 4:53. >> out of control wild fire in colorado is still burning this morning, about 8,000 acres now on fire, about 25 miles

northwest of ft. collins. emergency workers have sent out 800 notices to residents warning they might have to evacuate. ten buildings are damaged but no injuries have been reported. so far no word on the cause. >> in the meantime, a large wild fire in new mexico has burned more than 26,000 acres, hundreds of people are forced from their homes as firefighters try to get a handle on this blaze. 36 buildings and 40 square miles burned. timber, dry grass and steep slopes make it hard to fight that fire. >> two americans walked out of the wilderness after a storm trapped them. the 21-year-old survived by rationing their trail mix and warming themselves in hot springs. both men are students of the university of wisconsin studying abroad. they planned to hike and camp for a few days but heavy rains

and snow prevented them from being able to cross a river and return. >> time to check the morning commute with mike early on a monday. >> good morning. overnight on a monday from sunday night we typically have crews out there. that's the case for mountain view. shoreline boulevard on ramp, 101 had crews where they should be clearing. we don't see a slowdown for 101 at the top of the screen but we see smooth for the rest of the freeways without disturbances. a smooth drive along the peninsula. 101, 280, no slow for the flow all the way into the city. but we'll call your attention to the right there. at olympic golf club where damian is talking about the activities. highway 35 affected. keep in mind that 19th avenue will likely get more congestion as folks try to avoid the area. there are shuttle
