technicians. they're going to start walking the pickett line at about 7:00 this morning, and this includes about 9 to 11 bay area hospitals. we're told that at least ten of them are sutter health hospitals, 11 hospitals in all. the other hospital includes pet aat that luma valley hospital. what i can tell you according to the nurse's union this has to do with reductions to requirements and workplace rates. nurses have been negotiating a contract for over a year but can't seem to agree on pay and benefits. the hospitals involved in this include although at that bait summit many berkeley and oakland, mills peninsula, eden medical center, sutter delta, sutter see lawn notice, and petaluma valley. according to published reports

they will hired replacement nurses and will stay open during the strike those some elective procedures have been rescheduled. christie smith. today in the bay. 4:33. a renewed search and higher reward this morning in the sierra lamar case. they have announce an increase in the $25,000 reward for information leading to her safe return or a conviction in the case. their announcement is set for 8:30 this morning followed by a community search. prosecutors have charged garcia-torres with killing sierra even though her body has not been found. a drive-by shooting has taken the life of a san jose teen. police say the 17-year-old boy was hit several times by gunfire from a passing car. the teen was walking along near story road after 6:00 on tuesday night when he was shot. investigators have not said if the shooting was gang-related and no arrests have been made so far. this is san jose's 19th homicide of the yeefr. questions are raised this

morning over pg&e response it to a house fire in san francisco. a construction work was connecting a gasoline when those flames were sparked. the worker was badly burned. it took two hours before the gas was shut off. in the mine time it burned the house and three adjoining structure. one man evacuated next door said it was scary to snell gas for so long. >> it was pg&e. why don't they shut it off? i thought about the city pg&e issue. >> pg&e said they could not get the valve to shut off because of the fire. they use aid jackhammer in the street to get to the line. three firefighters were treated and released at the hospital. this morning a local company facing heavy fines for the death of a carpenter. cal ocean has $170,000 in fine against sino investments. they say they strilted state

safety standards when 37-year-old raul zapata was buried alive in january. a tragedy the family's attorney says could have been prevented. >> i think there's a lot of sadness and there's some anger. i think that the cal osha report shows it it was a needless tragedy. >> the city issued a stop work order to the company three days before zapata was killed. a warning for track owners on the peninsula. thieves are stealing catalytic converters. three thefts were reported friday and saturday. the first theft was on lincoln avenue near forest avenue and the second on college avenue near yale street. the third was on high street north of embarcadero road. the trucks were all parked on the street. they sell them to metal recyclers. it's 4:35 right now. mill valley is on the brink of

island and over towards oakland, they have overnight construction work under the nimitz which is what we look at right now. aa smooth drive into the south bay. we look at things as they shape up into the south bay. a nice flow of traffic. 17 shows slowing but they will likely clear up. just some construction for 85. that's the only one with crews there. 101 with no problem as well as 280 and 17. that interchange is fine. now good news for low income kids in san francisco, they may not have worry about finding change to ride muni. funding for free rides program could be approved today. they're set to put up $4 million. that combined with other city funds would let 40,000 low income youngsters ride for free. 4:38 right now. california voters get to decide whether special labels should be required for genetically modified food.

lie live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, kayla. a $2 billion loss but potentially more, so all eyes are on jamie dimon as he testifies before a hearing today about the losses that could reach a5 billion. in his prepared remarks he says he feels terrible about the incident which was the result of overconfidence and poor judgment by jpmorgan traders berth on complex currency transactions. the bank is reviewing what went wrong, and even with those losses their balance sheet remains strong. honda is recalling about 50,0 50,000 2012 civics ball they can stall. the drive shaft could separate. no accidents or injuries have been reported, and honda will replace the drive shaft for free. futures in morning in a stock market are flat following

tuesday's gain. markets gave up an early advance as yields hit record highs, fitch cutting rating on the country's bank. the stock rebounded once they bounced off the low once the european markets closed. they hope that the fed and other central banks take more steps to boost the global economy. we get data today on producer prices, retail sales and business inventories. the dow rose 162 points yesterday to 12,573. the nasdaq gained 33 to 2843. hopefully we can hold on to another day of gains. 4:46 right now. the next time the boss tours canada, he won't have to look far to find a familiar name. the canadian town of springfield will change ilts name to springsteen in honor of bruce springsteen. he's planning a concert in a nearby city, but it won't last

you wake up inland. the inland cities warm up nicely. still breezy out there, but what will noticeably change today are the winds are going to calm down. still strong in concord out of the south at 20 miles per hour, that's your sustained wind speed. you get local heavy gusts. high pressure still in control, jes stream taking a significant dip to the south though. we have a tight pressure gradient and we expect the winds to be strong for the first part of dropping off throughout the second half of the day. through tomorrow temperatures warm up. high pressure moves in and it takes the temperatures from the 80s and 70s today back toward the 90 degree mark. 66 in san jose today -- excuse me. in san francisco. san jose hits 83 degrees. through today up temperatures level off and we climb. hot father's day. 92 degrees inland, 86 degrees bayside and 71 degrees at the coast. nonetheless we cool back off through monday and tuesday. now, if you head out to the u.s.

this is "today in the bay." welcome back, everyone, to wednesday morning. taking a live look outside from the south bay this morning, downtown south bay. it's pretty quiet. near the 17/280 interchange. not a whole lot of traffic. supplements may help us in many ways, but it's falling short when it comes to memory. a new study out this morning on the omega 3 fish oil supplements does little to prevent memory problems in the elderly, at least in the short term. researchers said studied of omega 3s that included 3500 people studied for as long as three and a half years. they found no cognitive benefits from the supplements. >> we've heard that yawning is contagious, but a new study says it could be a sign of a bigger health issue. penn state researchers have found that excess weight and mental and emotional stress are the root causes of excessive

this is where christina says the fog starts to build, and it's allowed to and that's why we see the changes on the roads. the chaks of the crews moving those cones. no problems on the golden gate bridge. i'll continue to monitor to make sure the flashing lights clear, mike. it is a historic landmark and the theater that hosting the ots cars has a new new. monday the former kodak theater was rechristened the dolby theater. it re-opens to the public. now, kodak gave up the naming rights to the theater when it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in january. >> had some people jumping around there. the magic kingdom waving its magic wand the final time on the park next door. disney completed it's five-year $1 billion overhaul of california's disney adventure. it includes more rides based on pixar animation films.
