i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm joon kelly. we're following breaking news this morning in redwood city. dozens of people out of their homes after a huge fire at an apartment complex. fire crews are on the scene there between main street and woodside road. a total of eight units were burned and at least two completely destroyed. firefighters say this fire appears to be no accident. >> the fire is still under investigation at this time, but it looks like deliberately set. >> we can tell you 27 people have been evacuated, and right now we have a crew on the way it to that scene. we will bring you all the latest details in a motor of minutes. today nurses are set to strike at nine bay area hospitals. as many as 4400 nurses could walk off the job at hospitals operated by sutter health. nur nurses have been negotiating a new drt for more than a year

here's a look at all the hospitals involved in today's strike. sutter says the hospitals will stay open during the strike. replacement nursing have been hired for the next five days. questions raised this morning over pg&e's response to a house fire in san francisco. they were connecting a gasoline when the flaming were sparked. that worker was badly burned and it took two hours before the gas was shut off. in the meantime it fed the flames burning the house and three adjoining structures. one man evacuated next door. he said it was real scary to smell that gas for so long. >> where's pg&e? why aren't they shutting it off? the next thing i thought about was san bruno's pg&e issue. >> they could not get to the shutoff valve because of the fire. they used a jackhammer on the street to get to the line. three firefighters were treated, and they were released at the

hospital. 5:01. today a former follower of charles manson will ask for freedom. bruce davis has a parole hearing today. it is his 27th parole hearing since his conviction for the 1969 killings of a music teacher and a stuntman. two years ago parole was granted to davis, but the decision was overturned by former governor arnold schwarzenegger. davis was among a family of followers who went on this deadly spree on behalf of her leader, charles manson. 77-year-old manson is serving a life sentence for nine murders. the alabama man suspected of killing three people, including two former auburn university, football players has surrendered and could appear in court as early as this morning. police say the 22-year-old shot six people at a party on saturday night in what police say was a fight over a woman. at a three-day manhunt leonard turned himself in last night at the federal courthouse in his

hometown of montgomery. he could be returned to auburn for his court appearance as early as today. the prosecution continues to build its case against a foreman football coach today in pennsylvania. jerry sandusky is aaccused of sexually abusing ten years bung over a 15-year period. chris pallone has the story. >> reporter: good morning. we expect jerry sandusky to arrive at the center county courthouse in a short time. court will begin in ban hour. it sthub another day of grueling and disturbing testimony here at the court, as it has been for two straight days. the defense is trying to convince the jury that accusers are out for money, but yesterday prosecutors called to the stand a star witness who has nothing to gain but everything to lose by coming forward. he's former grad assistant mike mcqueary. he's the only witness that saw sandusky alone in a shower way young boy. he testified in 2001 he spotted sandusky with his arms around a boy of 10-year-olds in a locker

room. mcqueary said he made noise to let sandusky know he was in the room. mcqueary was a very strong witness for the prosecution yesterday. >> mcmcqueary has been the independent witness, the person who has nothing to gain from his testimony. he comes forward as someone who saw something very unusual and out of the ordinary, and he's able to corroborate the story of the other victims. >> reporter: now, earlier on the stand tuesday, jurors heard from a witness, 18-year-old boy, who put his head in his hands and sobbed through much of his testimony. he testified shortly after he met jerry sandusky, sandusky started molesting him when he was 10 or 11 years old. he's just the second of eight alleged victims who are expected to testify to take the stand in this case. that's the story from pennsylvania. back to you. >> you've been in the courtroom, chris, and the testimony has been rather graphic, really

upsetting it to hear. what's the jury's response? >> reporter: the jury is acting like human beings, quite frankly. a lot of times when things are gruesome or graphic, they are seen to gasp a little bit, lean forward in their chairs, you know. just react the way you would expect anyone to act while listening to to the testimony of this sort. the interesting thing is jerry sandusky himself seems to be very stoic, and not much reaction at all from him. he tends to stare straight ahead and sometimes make notes to his lawyer. >> very interesting. thank you very much. >> what a case that is. well, mayen who almost lost his life in the same arizona shooting rampage that wounded former congresswoman gabrielle giffords will taf over her seat. he defeated jesse kelly in the case. barber is celebrating his victory with giffords at his side. he was her aide last year, and he was shot in the leg when giffords was shot in the head at

a tucson shopping center. giffords left congress early this year to focus on her recovery, and she looks great. with the cost kicks on the new state budget, state lawmakers are getting closer to striking a deal. they're less than $500 million from governor jerry brown. they didn't specify what the differences are. both houses of the state legislature do not pass a balanced spending plan by friday, though, they risk losing their pay for every day the state goes without one. lawmakers must close a $16 billion budget gap. the san jose pension reform measure capturing the attention of the nature, measure b allows the city to make dramatic changes and reductions to employee pensions passing overwhelmingly last week, and last night the city council put the new rules to work. it voted to shrink pension benefits for new city hires with the exception of police and

the company started to allow limited access because kids were using it another way. if kids are going to sneak in might as well let them in and work to protect them. facebook is considering something similar for users under 13. the justice democratic is looking into whether cable companies are trying to quash efforts by hulu and netflix to bring you tv shows without hooking up cable. in particular, investigators are curious why some tv and internet providers like at&t and comcast cap your data usage when you use netflix but not when you use their online video services like xfinity. p if you go up the organizational chart far enough, we're owned by comcast and i am a comcast employee. so is toshi live at cnbc headquarters today with a look ahead. >> good morning. we have futures roughly flat

this morning following big gains tuesday. markets gave up an early advance yield on spanish government bonds hitting record highs as fitch cut ralgts on some banks. they rebounded after they bounced off the low once the european markets closed. investigators are hopeful that they'll take more steps to boost the global economy. we get data today on producer prices, retail sales and inventory. it rose 162 points yesterday. the nasdaq gained 33 to 2843. southwest has launched a fare sale including flights this fall for as long as 99 bucks round trip. other major carriers have matched the prices, but the aim is to fill seats after that peak summer travel season ends. it covers travel from mid-august to mid-november sxends thursday night. get on board if you have any travel in the fall. it doesn't cover flights on fridays and sundays and only a

weekend. so enjoy the brief cooldown while it lasts. temperatures today are nice and comfortable for the first part of the day, and we expect that marine layer to push out to sea by about noon. that's the good news. we won't see the fog socking in the city by the bay throughout the entire day bought least to noon dealing with low cloud cover. we have an interesting setup whether it comes to the east bay and your inland cities. we get strong winds this morning, so that keeps that fog from settling in. however we lose the wind. i wouldn't be surprised to wake up with mostly cloudy skies throughout the next few hours. between now and about 8:30 we have the best chance for seeing the marine layer pushing inland. 85 degrees in concord yesterday. no more 90s, and tomorrow we're going to gradually start to warm back up. 88 degrees by friday. this saturday mid-90s inland and cooling off a touch for sunday on father's day with annor shore

them completely destroyed. five cars were also destroyed. firefighters say 27 people inside the building were able to get out unhurt. >> we're always looking at were we notified early enough or was there a delay in reporting. this time of morning it's also a possibility, but we don't have any. we always encourage people as soon as they see a fire call 911. >> firefighters say the fire may have been intentionallially set. we have a crew on the way to the scene. we have the latest developments in a few minutes. a renewed search and bigger reward in morning in the sierra lamar case. the teen's parents planning to announce an increase in the $25,000 reward for information leading to her safe return or a conviction in this case. the aannouncement is set for 8:30 this morning followed by a community search. they charged garcia-torres for killing sierra even though her body has not been found. they're searching for a gunman in a drive-by shooting

that left the teenager dead. he was hit several times by fun fire walking along the road sne near story road after 6:00 tuesday night. they have not said if the shooting is gang-related and no arrests have been made. this is san jose's 19th homicide of the year. this morning a local company hit with a big-time fine for the death of care ppenter at a construction site. they order them to pay fines totaling $170,000. investigators say that company willfully violated state safety starnlds when 37-year-old raul zapata were buried alive in january. a tragedy. his family attorney says it could have been prevented. i think there's a lot of sadness and there's some anger. i think that the cal osha report indicates it was a needless tragedy and there were numerous opportunities to avoid this. >> for the record the city did

issue a stop work order to the company three days before he was killed. i wife of suspended san francisco sheriff may not be coming back to the bay area anytime soon. they're expected to ask the court to extend her stay in the native venezuela longer for another two months. he's been under court order to stay away from his life since the arrest for domestic violence charges. she's visiting her sick father, but she needed the court's approval to take the couple's son with her. she was supposed to return june 16th. menlo park police hope you might help catch a teenager who beat a 73-year-old woman over a cigarette. officers say the boy approached the woman monday night on lexington drive near robert way around 9:00. when the woman turned him away, he came back and punched the woman several times causing her to fall. she's recovering right now.

the individual took off. a5:33. plans are moving forward to redevelop oakland's former army base. the city council committee is volting to send the deal to the full council next tuesday. if the plan is not approved the city and port of oakland could lose nearly a quarter of billion dollars in state funding. the project would transform the former base into a warehouse serving the nearby port. it could be good news for low income kid palencia s in san francisco. they might not have to find change to ride on monduni. funding could be aapproved today. they're set to put up $4 million, and that money would let 40,000 low income youngsters ride for free. california voters will get to decide whether special labels should be required for genet genetically modified food. advocates collected more than half a million signatures to get that labeling mandate on the

it's a little foggy to start, so you might get the best of the weather if you head out there between 10:00 and noon. 64 degrees with with a building breeze throughout the day. the ingredients for fog are calm winds and clear skies, and that's what we have at the coast this morning. that fog will be a factor at least through mid-morning, but by noon nice sunshine over the greater bay area, 83 degrees at 4:00 p.m. here he is, mike and noah everybody. >> you're looking at the mystery. don't look behind the curtain. they do in front of the curtain as well. highway 4, no mystery. they're slowing because of the volume of traffic from eighth street over twarms summersville. speeds dip into the 20s. right on schedule for the antioch commute. construction screws between dublin and diablo, danville. no major slowing there. they start to clear in the next few minutes. some congestion starting and continues here into the altamonte pass and livermore if you continue.

chipping areas. a man who knows all about the changes has played this course out here more than 2,000 times. he's played collegiately for georgetown university. he's a scratch golfer, dan girado. how's that for an introduction? you basically grew up on the green and played out here since you were 10 years old. what makes this course so difficult? >> everything, first off, but this course is unique because it's built into a hill. every shot off the tee is curved into the fairway and they slope away from you. it makes it very difficult to land your drive in the fairway. >> the starting six holes are said to be the toughest in championship -- major championship golf? >> well, i think the easiest way to explain that is there's two par 4s over 500 yards and a par 3 250 yards downhill into the wind and they're a bear. if anyone can shoot even par on

the fog and the marine layer over san jose like we thought it would this morning, but it has not yet reached the east bay tri-valley region. you'll be nice and warm throughout this afternoon, and winds play a bit of the factor on the east side of the bay area as well. you can slice it in half. we have calm conditions to san mateo and half moon bay. you have that fog settling in and you need calm conditions and clear skies for the fog development. but we don't get that. you start out nice and clear and that sun will warm you up an hour from now. we wanted to point out the marine layer pushing back out to sea by noon. psy you can see the cloud cover at that point. 5:49. it's a nice, warm day inland, and especially if you used ac over the past couple of days, you can give it a break today. we have the natural ac off the pacific. winds are a factor this morning. they should drop off through the second half of the day as we saw that building breeze yesterday.

breaking news in morning, a fire in redwood city leads to an arson investigation. dozens of people are out of their homes. christie smith joins us with the latest. >> reporter: this three-alarm fire has a big impact this morn. 27 people have been burned out of their apartments. firefighter believe it's suspicious. one firefighter says it's because of some of the things they found here they believe it was deliberately set, but he wouldn't elaborate on what they found. we're in the 500 block of stanbow street where flames were spotted in the car port this

morning. five cars burned down to the shell and six others damaged by heat and two apartments gutted and other had smoke and water damage. no one hurt. red cross is helping. arson investigators are on scene. i'm told a couple of residents have been allowed back in, but this investigation is set to go on for quite some time. reporting live in redwood city. quick question for you. what is a company's stock like a subway sandwich? scott mcgrew is pondering that. >> $5 for a foot long and about the same for a share of zinga. they teased them online this morning. it went down 41% on the year. the low total raises the question, should facebook just buy zinga? it's probably as cheap as the company is going to get a $4.5 billion market capitalization. zinga depends on facebook, but they get revenue from zinga.
