everyone. i love saying good friday morning. it is 4:30. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to this morning. let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good friday morning to you. >> good morning. it's friday, we have a good looking weekend shaping up, a lot of people in town for the big u.s. open and today wind will become more of a factor. this morning we're starting out with the 50s headed to the 90s, then the triple digits tomorrow. so we'll take you through your forecast. mike has the day off. i'm covering traffic this morning. heard from christie smith that b.a.r.t. is back up and running. that's the good news of the morning. a live look at the golden gate bridge. traffic light in both directions. school is you now out and it's early. now back to you guys. >> thank you. we are following breaking news in east san jose where dozens of people have been forced out of homes as crews try to shut off a natural gas leak at an apartment

complex in san jose. we have a live look at the scene. according to firefighters a car crashed into one of the buildings and sheered off a gas meet ter. crews are on the scene and the complex has been evacuated. we'll continue to monitor this and bring you updates throughout the morning. >> and very good news, b.a.r.t. trains rolling again this morning after a massive fire damaged the tracks and left thousands stranded. >> the fire has turned into an arson investigation. christie smith joins us live in oakland with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we have not seen any b.a.r.t. trains yet but they are rolling again this morning after a major disruption yesterday. there was a fire at this building that was under construction here near the tracks. happened overnight yesterday and spread to the tracks, major disruption that basically stopped transbay b.a.r.t. traffic for nearly 12 hours, up

and running again this morning. with us is jim alison with b.a.r.t. good morning. you got this up and running before the evening commute which was obviously your goal. what did you have to do to make that happen? >> we have a small army of women and men who are well trained and dedicated to getting it done so they jumped in. we knew how good they were but i think the bay area does now. they brought it back up, better than we expected and by 5:00 p.m. we had 52 trains and it was almost business as usual. so it was a great job. >> we were talking about this before as you guys were watching it yesterday it seemed like it kept getting bigger with the number of insulators burned. about 300 feet, a section that had to be repaired? >> the section damage was more than a football field in length so it was a big job but the good news was that the oakland fire department put out the fire quickly so it didn't create structural damage to the concrete or the tracks.

it was electrical. they tested it. made sure it was safe and got the trains running again. >> is this a complete repair? is there something you have to work on overnight or is this done and also should people expect any delay this is morning? >> we did more testing overnight and made sure everything was good, so i think customers will find that b.a.r.t. service will be like yesterday never happened though it will be a reminder of what life is like without b.a.r.t. across the bay. >> reporter: the other part of that story is the fire, this is the senior center that was under construction. it was four stories when firefighters found that it was on fire, 150-foot flames. it's down to just one. now, oakland fire and the atf are working on this. it's too early to say if it was intentionally set but are looking into reports of a group

of people, perhaps three people seen leaving the fire just before it started yesterday around 2:00 in the morning. i do have calls in to the atf if i hear anything i'll let you know. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> the b.a.r.t. outage serving as a test of our system. the additional bus service provided connections to several b.a.r.t. stations, bus service was free for transbay riders. ferry service from alameda and oakland to san francisco reportedly carrying at least four times as many passengers. the lines were long but they did serve the job. this is part of the contingency plan for the bay area water transit authority. >> investigators in redwood city asking for help to figure out who set fire to an apartment building. two units were damaged.

dozens of people were left homeless by the blaze. firefighters say there's evidence the fire was intentionally started. police asking the public for information or video from the fire to try to figure out who is to blame. >> the lawyer for san francisco couple accused of killing the man they claim was their 17-year-old daughter's pimp says the charges are unfounded. the attorney represents the couple being held on $2 million bail. he admits his clients had reason to wish harm against the 22-year-old who was shot dead earlier this month. but the attorney also says the victim was a known gang member and no stranger to violence. >> he also came up here from southern california and was alone in the car at 2:00 a.m. and always described as a high crime area. if he was in his normal and

customary business that's relayed to me he put himself in a grave situation. >> the couple is due in court june 20th. their attorney says they intend to plead not guilty the charges. >> police on the big island of hawaii investigating the apparent drowning of a san francisco businessman. paul sang was snorkeling along the coast when someone on shore noticed he was just floating there. a man on a paddle board went out to find him unresponsive. the 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. an autopsy being done to determine the exact cause of death. >> a boat that capsized last year has been found. the "erik" went down with 27 people on board last july. seven people still missing. that wreckage was spotted on the bottom of the ocean by divers. crews have yet to make it inside to see if any of the missing

fishermen's bodies are inside. >> the lapd will hear previously secret tapes between charles manson and his former attorney a. judge in texas rejected watson's attempt keep the recordings out of investigators' hands. it is part after bankruptcy proceedings against the late lawyer's firm. they hope to hear discussions of cases. >> a bay area judge is on the wrong side of the law this morning accused of stealing money from his elderly neighbor. a superior court judge is facing charges he illegally took control of his neighbor's finances and pros and seeman funneled out $1.6 million of ann nutting's assets over ten years. the judge is also charged with 11 felony counts of lying about his income to the state. >> time to let the weekend start

rolling. meteorologist christina loren is here to tell us how nice it's going to be, and the u.s. open going on. >> a lot happening this weekend so pack your patience on our roadways, the good news is the z going to be perfect, especially bay side and the coast. the potential of records. saturday, in the triple digits. and the warmest weather of the year so far anticipated. saturday is going to be a hot one. we've not started summertime yet. the official start is wednesday next week. 54 this morning in sunnyvale. for the u.s. open, winds are going to come into play this afternoon. substantially as we head from noon to 4:00 p.m. look at the temperatures. we were in the 60s yesterday. today more like the mid to upper 70s, then tomorrow for the warmest day of the year so far, temperatures are going to soar toward 90, even in san francisco it's going to be a warm, warm day tomorrow. so keep that in mind as you're starting to make your outdoor plans for the weekend. through noon today, 85 degrees

button. sales of video games fell, down 28%. mpd group chalks the decline to a lack of new games. diablo 3 was the top selling title. maybe june can turn it around. back to you. >> thank you, kayla. >> we check back in with meteorologist christina loren. make our sunshine even brighter because it's friday. >> a lot of kids out for summer, parents want to get the kids out of the house. >> it's going to be hot. >> it is. you want to make sure if you are inland that you do so early, making early plans because tomorrow we're talking about triple-digit heat. that's unusual this early in the season, even in the summer but we're still at the end of spring. we expect triple digits even right here in san jose. hate to say it everybody but it does look like it's going to get very, very hot. if you want heat relief head to one of the other micro climates

across the bay area with good looking weather in san francisco, san mateo, half moon bay the cities that are going to be crowded in addition to santa cruz. 54 to start out in sunnyvale. throughout the next 48 hours, high pressure sets in, drives the winds offshore. they move from land to sea that is our warming influence. we're talking about the breeziest day of the week so far. 90s inland and then peak warmth. take your temperatures from today, tack on additional 5 to 8 degrees, that's what we expect tomorrow. 90 degrees in los gatos, 81 degrees in oakland and you can see it will be breezy but we're not going to get that much wind off the ocean so. with the downsloping winds it won't be refreshing. going to feel like a hot air drier going through the area. still you can make outdoor plans early. i have not had to do this yet but i have put the century mark on your inland cities.

father's day, we've got a big weekend for the dads. and temperatures are going to be comfortable for the first part of the day inland. same deal, maybe play tennis, throw the ball around do it early. take him on the beach, temperatures warm enough for all of your water sports. >> weather and party planning. i like it. what about day two of tournament play at the u.s. open. golf fans treated to a like show from the likes of tiger woods and phil mickelson and rory mcilroy. >> 230,000 people expected to make the trip this weekend. marla tellez found a group that includes three generations of golf fans. >> reporter: the stampede into the olympic club started before the first swing at 7:00 a.m. >> we just walked in the first group we saw was tiger and bubba on the ninth tee. the reality sinks in fast. going to be fun.
