your full forecast is moments away. >> you're making us excited talking about it so let's take a live look outside over san francisco. beautiful start to a friday, june 15th, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning. happy friday morning. 5:00 now. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> good morning. i'm jon kelley. we're following a developing story out of oakland. b.a.r.t. trains back on track after that massive fire shut down the transbay tube for nearly 12 hours. christie smith is live in oakland where investigators are calling the fire a possible case of arson. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. let me start by saying it was exactly 4:41 a.m. this morning when we saw the first b.a.r.t. train rolling through the west oakland station into san francisco after a major disruption yesterday. a fire. i want to show you the tracks. this area, this is part of the

area that was burned yesterday. of course this whole thing left thousands scrambling to try to get across the bay, a b.a.r.t. spokesperson says that trains are running at their regular speeds through the area of the track that was damaged and the massive fire thursday. there is an investigation under way by the oakland fire department and the atf that was brought in on this fire that quickly reduced a four-story senior living facility under construction down to one story. for b.a.r.t., the focus of getting thousands of people moving, which they did, right before the evening commute. >> damage was more than a football field in length so it was a big job. the good news was that the oakland fire department put out the fire quickly so didn't create structural damage to the concrete. >> reporter: investigators say it's too early to say for sure whether this fire was dpli

deliberately set. they have dogs that can detect accelerants. they are looking into witness accounts of a group of people seen near the site before this fire started around 2:00 a.m. i can tell you, there we go, there is a b.a.r.t. train running going into the east bay. the entire building, the one that burned here, is pretty much on lockdown. they have it cordoned off and security guards keeping an eye on it. christie smith, "today in the bay." also running normally today east bay buses and ferries which had to work overtime to squeeze in the commuters. ac transit buses made 117 extra trips during the shutdown. the additional bus service provided connections to several b.a.r.t. stations. bus service was free. service from alameda to san francisco reported by carried at least four times as many

passengers. the lines were long but eventually passengers got to where they needed to go. >> breaking news in san jose where dozens of people are out of their homes, forced out by a gas leak. a car slammed into several units of an apartment complex in san jose, that car sheared off a gas meter and we learned the leak has been capped. moments ago asbok a woman who lived in that complex. she said you could see the stream of gas as leaked into the air. we're waiting to hear when the residents will be allowed to get back in their homes. >> 5:03. three small children kidnapped by their father are waking up safe and sound. the three were dropped off at their grandmother's house. at about the same time police

arrested their father. he threatened to hurt himself and the girls after a confrontation with his wife. he is being held on charges of parental abduction and violating a restraining order. >> two people burned now under arrest on murder charges. investigators say lexy hudson and her boyfriend evan were trying to make hashish oil in their apartment. they ultimately exploded damaging the building and killing 35-year-old paul loam of san jose who had been helping the couple. residents of the building had to find new places to live. >> happening now a group of immigrants occupying president obama's campaign headquarters in downtown oakland. they have set up a life stream camera in the lobby of the obama for america office. the protesters walked into the office on thursday afternoon pretending to be campaign volunteers, then refused to leave.

the campaign has not kicked them out yet, instead, hire add firm to keep watch on things. they are refusing to leave until the obama administration stops desupporting students. >> an independent investigation called opd tactics flawed because of inadequate staffing, poor planning, and outdated policies. the report also slams the department for an incident involving an iraq war veteran injured by a police projectile. not a single officer observed him go down, unsettling and unbelievable. >> it's a mass cover-up and the most disturbing is not that it's a cover-up by one police officer in an isolated area but literally a dozen were there or more and none of them came forward and told the truth. >> it embraces the findings and now promising to make improvements to public safety.

is that already this morning we've seen at least a half dozen trains running in and out of the west oakland station, that is to and from san francisco. b.a.r.t. ran more tests while federal agents are helping the oakland fire department with an investigation that led to a huge commute meltdown. a train was a little late but had nothing to do with repairs. more than 300 feet damaged, not necessarily the tracks or the concrete but the electrical equipment. that helped get things moving after a fire at a senior center that was under construction. that caught fire about 2:00 a.m. thursday. the flames were huge, they moved fast making just one story quickly. for b.a.r.t., the focus was getting the trains going for thousands of people who had to hop a bus or a ferry. >> we did more testing and we
