leaders of the world's largest economies will wrap up a two-day economic summit in mexico today. they're going to be ramping up pressure on the european union to take bolder steps to resolve its debt crisis once and for all. nbc's tracie potts is in washington for us with the details. tracie, good morning. >> lynn, good morning. based on the draft that we are seeing we're waiting for a draft out of los cabos that essentially says government needs to spend more, not cut spending, to stimulate their economies and as a result the world economy. . the biggest countries say they are ready to do that. the biggest concern is the eurozone. those 17 nations whose economies are being affected by what's happening in spain and greece possibly spilling over to the world economy as well. those are all big issues.

greece, egypt. the military trying to strip power from the democratically elected president. president obama sat down with president putin. president putin said there were connonalities of areas of agreement. president obama said they wanted to pursue political action in terms of stopping the violence that they agreed on. no public talk of whether or not syria's president should step down. lynn. >> traciepotts in washington. well, elsewhere new evidence was released in the trayvon martin murder case yesterday, including jailhouse calls from accused killer george zimmerman to his wife, calls prosecutors allege prove shellie zimmerman lied when she told a judge she and her husband were broke. nbc's jay gray has that story. >> reporter: we are hearing more from a man who shot and killed trayvon martin. special prosecutor angela corey released six recordings of jailhouse phone calls between george zimmerman and his wife shellie. during their conversations the couple talks about their love

for each other, confidence in his legal counsel, and buying bullet proof vests for themselves and attorney mark omar ra. >> as uncomfortable as it is, i want you wearing one. second of all, i want the mayor having one. >> reporter: prosecutors say the recordings also reveal zimmerman providing his wife with detailed instructions on how to access a bank account and move money from one account to others. they allege the couple was transferring donations from an internet account, then discussing the funds in code, calling paypal peter pan and never revealing how much money they had. >> so take the ten out first and keep it in your pocket and then at the institution see if you can put ten into hers right away and see if she can take that ten out and put it in the box there. >> reporter: prosecutors say when they talk about tens, the zimmermans are actually discussing $10,000, and that despite telling the judge they were broke, the zimmermans

actually had access to at least $130,000 when bond was set. that bond was revoked and zimmerman was sent back to jail. his wife was arrested on a charge of making a false statement. still, his attorney has downplayed the allegations. >> though they weren't honest with judge lester at first, that it was disclosed four days later the money was transferred to my account and taken care of. >> reporter: a new bond hearing for george zimmerman is scheduled for next week. jay gray, nbc news. well, now here's a look at some other stories making news early today in america. in florida, an amazing sight. doctors removed a three-foot spear from a teenaged boy's head. he was accidentally impaled just before heading out on a spear-fishing trip. surgeons actually had to use a metal cutter just to be able to place his head in a cat scan device. they say the 16-year-old is now out of intensive care and recovering.

remarkable. in arizona, massive flames and numerous small explosions destroyed a warehouse used by a plumbing wholesaler. strong winds fueled the fire, and heavy smoke could be seen for miles. the cause is under investigation. thankfully no one was hurt. in virginia beach, a driver says her foot slipped, and this was the result. her car came crashing through the front doors of a sandwich shop. three people, including a baby, were inside the car, and four people were inside the store, but there were no serious injuries. and, finally, to minnesota, where this is anything but a dream home. broken water pipes and warm weather combined to cover a townhouse from wall to floors in mold. the house had been foreclosed so no one was living there, but neighbors started seeing the disgusting site back in march and now authorities say it will finally be cleaned up. that's pretty dangerous. and now for a look at your national and regional weather, here's nbc meteorologist bill karins with the weather channel

forecast. >> bonfire, anyone? >> how did the guy survive with a spear through his skull? >> they're doing the story later on on "the today show." tune in for that. >> you probably know the answer. call my neurosurgeon. cooler weather arrives in portions of the northern rockies. little relief from the summertime heat. now we have showers coming on shore in coastal areas of washington state. they'll try to make it over the olympics but not a lot of it. only a few showers on and off. return to cooler weather. the rest of the country continues to bake. it's been a chilly portion of june and most of your spring in the northwest. this will go down as one of the warmest springs all time around our country. the only exception being up there in the northwest. what we're dealing with today, that cold front is trying to push to the south. it will stall out from here and just wash away and become a story. it won't make it down to the desert southwest. the heat low is sitting there on the border of california and arizona. the cool air made it to boise.

good morning and welcome back to "early today." i'm lynn berry, and here are some of your top headlines this morning. the u.s. is warning military leaders in egypt to hand over power quickly to a new president when a winner is announced or face losing billions of dollars in american aid. protests are planned today in cairo against sweeping powers against the military council obviously intent on hanging on to power. defense lawyers for jerry sandusky called former coaches at penn state as character witnesses yesterday on his trial of sexually abusing young boys. the jury could get the case as early as thursday. asians have now passed hispanics to become the largest group of new immigrants to the u.s. a report finds asian immigrants rose from 19% in the year 2000 to 36% in 2010.

and watch this. a daring high-speed robbery caught on video in romania as thieves use a vehicle to pull up behind a moving truck and open its back door. it's like "mission: impossible" stuff. before members of the gang were arrested, they grabbed $400,000 worth of goods. and now here's an early look at one of your top health headlines on msnbc.com. a new study finds the combined weight of the world's human population is 316 million tons and 17 million tons of that is due to obesity. the study warns obesity could have the same impact on global resources as an extra half a billion people. the u.s. with just 5% of the people accounts for almost one-third of the world's weight due to obesity. and for more information on this and other health stories, you can check out the health page at msnbc.com. >> announcer: "early today" health is brought to you by vagisil wash with odor block.

the confident clean. and now here's an early look at how wall street's going to will kick off the day. the dow opens at 12,741 after losing 25 points yesterday. the s&p nudged up a point, while the nasdaq rose 22. taking a look at overseas trading this morning, in tokyo the nikkei fell 65 points, while in hong kong the hang seng was down 11. asian shares headed lower today over more concern over europe's economy. in greece, talks could produce a coalition government as early as today with its leaders hoping to negotiate less punishing terms for the international bailout. now the focus turns back to spain. with its borrowing costs surging higher, a bailout could be needed there as well. the federal reserve starts its open market committee meeting today with wall street hoping the european crisis and a slow job market will announce a new dose of stimulus. u.s. home builders' confidence increased in june to the highest level in five years, the latest in a series of

encouraging signs for the housing market. for an undisclosed amount facebook is purchasing face.com, the company that currently provides the social network with facial recognition technology. shares of oracle surged after the company reported better than expected quarterly revenue. as expected microsoft unveiled its new tablet called surface, which is designed to compete with the ipad. it will launch in the fall, but microsoft did not reveal the price. a new study says only half of millionaire baby boomers think its's important to leave money to their kids with a third saying they would rather leave the money to charity than their kids. and adidas has canceled plans for a sneaker with a shackle-like ankle cuff created by fashion designer jeremy scott. some critics say the hightop sneaker with the orange plastic cuff too closely resembled a symbol of slavery. well, coming up the yanks streak, a slugfest in chicago,

good morning. if you're just waking up, this is "early today." and in sports major league pitching legend roger clemens posted one of the biggest victories of his life yesterday. in court. here's nbc's fred roggin with an early look at all your sports headlines. good morning, and you can add another win to roger clemens' resume. the most decorated pitcher in baseball history was found not guilty on perjury and obstruction charges. jurors rejected the prosecution's case that clemens lied to congress in 2008 about using performance-enhancing drugs. the verdict is also a blow to the government who spent millions of taxpayer dollars to prosecute the seven-time cy young winner. so clemons is now a free man, but the question remains will the baseball writers forgive him enough to elect him to the hall of fame. clemens was the yankees' ace ten years ago. today it's cc sabathia. struck out ten for his first complete game of the year. mark teixeira and robinson cano both hit solo shots.

the yanks beat the braves, 6-2. they have won ten straight. who would have thought r.a. dickey would be this good. the mets' new found ace kept the orioles guessing with his knuckleball. he struck out 13, now pitched back-to-back complete one-hitters. art davis did the rest, ripped his first career grand slam in the sixth. dickey improves to 11-1 with a 5-0 win. a battle in chicago, and the white sox didn't even put up a fight. the wind was blowing out, and the cubs were hitting them out. smacked five home runs. they may have the worst record in baseball, but the cubs have bragging rights in chicago. they won it, 12-3. now to phoenix, diamondbacks' aaron hill hit a single in the first, a triple in the third, and came back with a double in the fifth. needing a home run for the cycle, and there it goes. the fifth cycle in diamondbacks' history. aaron hill single-handedly beat the mariners, 7-1. and, finally, can you imagine mike tyson accepting a tony award? it could happen. the boxer has teamed up with spike lee to bring a one-man show called "undisputed truth" to broadway. tyson said it will be raw and filthy and be a confession about

start an entire franchise all over again. andrew garfield and emma stone walked the red carpet in london yesterday for the premiere of the reboot of the "amazing spider-man." it opens here july 3rd. >> they'll make millions and redo it again. >> that's right. fresh off winning the "celebrity apprentice," arsenio hall is returning to late-night tv on a syndicated nightly talk show next year. glenn beck thinks "glee" is brilliant. he also tells billboard the things the show teaches high schoolers are, quote, horrifying, so he's developing a conservative anti-"glee" show. >> i thought they just sing. they teach? >> i've not actually watched the show. first paramedics are called after lindsay lohan misses work and fails to answer her door. she says she overslept blaming her grueling schedule and exhaustion and dehydration. the very next night lohan then parties till all hours of the evening at a swanky l.a. hot spot. >> she's working on a role. >> so her people put out a statement explaining that she's been shooting her film on the overnight shift for several days, so it's, quote, quite reasonable she's dining at 1:00 a.m.

well, a new exhibit at versailles has some wondering if marie antoinette would approve. what was once home to french royalty is now showcasing items like giant steel stilettoes and furry pink helicopters. it's the works of the latest in a series of contemporary artists being featured to show versailles as a place that an talk about contemporary issues, not just past ones. one man in iraq is realizing a childhood dream of opening a zoo -- sort of. with the purchase of three lion cubs he's well on his way, originally forbidden to keep wild animals under the sadam hussein regime, his home is a popular place for children. he's says if the government grants him land, he plans to add an elephant, tigers, giraffes, and bears, oh, my. passion isn't all that burns

for a pair of lovebirds in england. taking a break from the olympic torch relay, one man handed off the fiery beacon and got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. at eight months' pregnant she happily accepted as they embraced and she slipped on the ring. with the crowd delighted, he then resumed the trot with the torch as an engaged man, and she was just sort of left with looks like, wait, do we celebrate? what do we do? >> she had a maternity dress of all maternity dresses. it was a flag and -- she was looking good. >> it was themed. it's time for now for an early look at some of the stories we'll follow throughout the day on nbc. attorney general erik holder is expected to meet with house committee chairman darrell issa. they will discuss a deal to avoid a contempt vote against holder. at issue, subpoenaed documents related to the justice department's "fast and furious" gun-running operation in mexico that have been withheld. in england, the five-day
