a group of federal special agents will be out here by the west open b.a.r.t. station to investigate last week's devastating fire. i'm live from the scene what they'll be focused on. claims of abuse and redemption. a man of accused of attacking an elderly priest out of revenge heads to trial today. why his lawyer says it's time to tell his story. egypt's disgraced leader fighting for his life in a cairo hospital. why he had to be placed on life support. taking a live look outside. beautiful shot of the bay bridge. you know what? summer arrives today on wednesday, june 20th. this is "today in the bay."

good morning. what time does she arrive today? >> who is she? >> summer. >> oh. i think it's this afternoon. this afternoon, right, christina? >> bring it on. yeah, it's 4:09 p.m., summertime. longest day of the year. really, really long day today, and it will be one of the warmest days of the week, but i love how you brought your summertime wardrobe. as you wake up to pick out what to wear, you want to dress cool for the warm day ahead with temperatures in the mid-90s. i'll go to that forecast. temperatures plummet by 20 degrees. lots to talk about in the weather department. first day of summer, how are we doing in the traffic department? >> we had a full closure. this should re-open. this is the antioch bridge. not a huge concern, but if

you're local to the area traveling between antioch and the north bay, it is a huge concern. you have to take highway 4 back to 680 and north heading up towards basically highway 12 and back through the area. a big reroute for folks. that will clear up over the next 20 minutes, but we have construction eastbound that has the freeway closed. you get on around summersville, and the westbound direction opened up. less folks traveling right now because the antioch bridge is closed. we have more in oakland coming up. thank you very much, mike. this morning federal investigators are on the scene of a massive fire that shut down cross bay b.a.r.t. service for 12 hours. >> the agents are looking for evidence that an arsonist set the blaze six days ago. we have more on why the feds are now involved. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this is the focus today. a 119-unit senior housing complex that had been under

construction that you can see was completely destroyed, a mangled skeleton of what is now $25 million in estimated damage. the west oakland b.a.r.t. station just behind that. where and how did this fire start, and, of course, is this a case of arson? a team of special agents with the bureau of alcohol, firearms and tobacco explosives will be here. they were here last thursday, but structural engineers had to shore up the integrity of the structure before investigators could come up. today is the first day to take a closer look with specialized resources. >> we have access it to accelerant detection ka necanin should we need them. we have access to a team of individuals within atf that have worked fire scenes. >> reporter: this has become a top priority considering thousands of people were impacted after b.a.r.t. was forced to shut down lines between san francisco and

oakland. one thing that's suspicious is a security guard said he ran from this site after three young men harassed him just before the building went up in flames. surveillance footage could play a big role in this. investigators are looking at footage from b.a.r.t. skurecuri cameras just behind this. they're looking aat the time of the fire. oakland police and fire are helping in this investigation. live in west oakland, stephanie trong, "today in the bay." 4:35. a man accused of pummeling a priest will see his victim today when they meet in court. the defendant claims he's the real victim. opens statements will begin in the trial of william lynch. he attacked the father in 2010. lynch claims the attack was justified because decades earlier the priest molested him and his brother during a camping trip. father linder denies those

charges, but lynch's defense attorney says it is well-documented the priest is one of the worst sex offenders in the catholic church. >> definitely take the stand. he's waited 40 years. he's not had a voice for over 40 years of his life he's had to live with this. everyone has ignored him. he hasn't had a voice. tomorrow he gets his voice. >> if william lynch is convicted, he faces up to four years in prison. happening now, crowds are gathering outside a cairo hospital where egypt's former president is clinging to life. we have a life look outside the military hospital where the associated press says hosni mubarak was taken off life support. he is now in a coma. authorities say he suffered a stroke while in prison. egypt's state-run news says the 84-year-old's heart stopped beating and he was, quote, clinically dead when he arrived at the hospital. mubarak is serving a life sentence after being found guilty for failing to stop

civilians deaths in last year's uprising. oakland police are working to identify the body found weighted down in the oaklandest ware. a fisherman spotted feet sticking out of the water on tuesday morning. we have confirmed the weights were attached to the body. investigators are looking at whether the man committed suicide or if there's something more sinister behind that death. this morning we know more about who will be testifying in the case to remove suspended sheriff. they met for five hour. they're considering to remove him from office permanently. he pleaded guilty in a domestic case against his wife. he called the case against him smeared sensationalism. >> everything against wall between what's fact.

>> he's expected it to testify next week. the commission is also expected to decide if the videotape of low pose showing a friend a bruise on her arm is allowed as evidence. a stern warning for oakland mayor, miss a deadline and face a potential fine. published reports say the city's internal affairs department is investigating complaints stemming from "occupy oakland." they have to complete the investigations in a timely manner because after one year state law prevents any legal action against officers of found of wrongdoing. the judge says if deadlines are missed the city and mayor himself will be fined. this morning volunteers gather in morgan hill to search for sierra lamar. at the time a high-tech crime unit has launched its own search for the culprit in a high-tech hoax. silicon valley's react task force is trying to locate the person who hacked spew the missing teen's social media accounts. a post appeared on the internet

monday night claiming to be sierra saying she was held in him of saratoga. they think her account may have been cloned. cyber experts say it's not hard to do. >> find pictures of them online and create a face profile and add some information about them that simply isn't true. >> sierra lamar's facebook and twitter services have been hacked since her disappearance in march. one was tracked to a hacker ft philippines. blame it it on love. a santa cruz jailmate said that inspired him to make a run for it while being booked. he is back behind bars after detectives reached him by phone and talked him into surrendering. while he was being rebookd for a probation violation he told a local tv reporter he escaped because he's in love sxepted to see his wife. >> my actions were wrong, and i need to take responsibility. i did it for love. i wasn't trying to hurt anybody

in the dmunt, and santa cruz is awesome. >> souza slipped aaway during a slip change dressed in civilian clothing. souza has a long history of drug on orchss and has been jailed more than 20 times before. san jose soccer players have a new field to play on, they play next to the favorite professional players. city council has approved a deal for a new adult and youth soccer complex. it will open in two years along coleman avenue west of mineta san jose international airport right next to san jose earthquakes practice field and the site of the new stadium. soccer fields are expected to generate about $1 million in revenue. natural good for the community. >> perfect day to get out there and toss balls, kick it, bounce it off your head, whatever you do. >> goals. boom. just when you least expect it. >> good morning to you. yeah, today is warm. first official day of summer. and then tomorrow temperatures tumble, and we entered into this

coliseum. taillights just outside of our range now from our camera. we had chp traveling back and forth snaking across the roadway, basically a rolling traffic break. they're slowing traffic down because the crews north of here at 23rd are clearing from the roadway. you see that's at the bottom of the screen, the construction indicator there. roadwork towards 580 and 80. we have construction around ashby and 24 at finch wrench, but none block the highways themselves. we have a roadblocked right now, telegraph avenue between 40th and 42nd. at 41st just before 4:00 we had a structure fire over there. our crew got over there and checked it out. they say the fire, they're mopping it up. the roadway is still closed. telegraph is just off 24 and 580. another live look across the bay shows you the golden gate bridge. an easy drive. a little smear to the lens there. i don't think that's reflected in christina's maps. it's just our lens. you can see the lights all the

when asked about one accuser's claims he called for help while, sexually assaulted in sandusky's basement, sandusky's wife of 46 years says she never heard a thing. >> rarely is it the case that a wife brings anything to the table beyond her mere willingness to testify. >> now, the judge telling jurors he expects closing arguments thursday morning and then jury deliberations to begin that afternoon. 4:46. leaders of the world's top nations have reached an agreement to keep europe away from economic disaster. president obama says it will something that will affect our economy and the november elections. tracy potts has the story. >> the g-20 is backing europe's plan to better connect its banks to avoid bailouts like greece. >> we're encouraged by what we heard from the european leaders today. >> reporter: back home mitt romney argued we may be on the same path. >> the american people don't want to become like europe with

a bigger and bigger government and more and more taxes. >> reporter: president obama admitted what's happening across the atlantic could have a ripple effect here, especially in november. >> all these issues, economic issues will potentially have some impact on the election, but that's not my biggest concern right now. >> reporter: the g-20 agreed governments must spend more and cut less to promote jobs. president obama promised not to let tax cuts expire and massive spending cuts kick in at the end of the year. there was some agreement on the economy, but there was little on syria. china and russia want the violence on to end but won't back a plan to remove the country's president. >> i wouldn't suggest that at this point the united states and the rest of the international community are aligned with russia and china in their positions. >> reporter: on the economy now the world waits for more concrete steps when the european union meets next week.

4:47. all eyes on the fed chairman this morning as he testifies in washington. for more on that and the rest of our news before the bell we turn to jackie de angelis live at cnbc world headquarters, good morning, jackie. >> good morning, laura. the futures are slightly higher at this point as investors aawait the fed's decision today. many economists thinking that the fed may be prompted to announce new measures to boost the sluggish u.s. economy in the face of disappointing jobs in retail sales data and has europe's debt crisis poses threats to growth. the decision comes out at 12:30 p.m. eastern time followed by aa news conference by fed chairman ben bernanke at 2:15. the asian markets were higher overnight. european markets were flat this morning. in the u.s. stocks closed at five-week highs on tice on the back of upbeat housing data. the dow rose and the nasdaq up 34 to 2929. and u.s. companies and employers posted the fewest job openings

in five months in april. that's a signal that hiring growth may remain slow with 12.5 million people unemployed in april, that means 3.7 people are competing for every available job. in a healthy job market the ratio is 2:1. microsoft may be basking in the glow of unveiling surface on monday, but today could be more important for the company in the short run. they're discussing the future of the windows phone. they get a sneak peek at the device. it includes a payment app and skype. laura, back over to you. >> thanks so much, jackie. we are talking about the first day of summer here. it's going to be a nice one. >> it is going to be a nice one. i don't know if you enjoyed yesterday inland. >> it was pretty nice. at least until we the hit 4:00, 5, 6:00 when things got a little too warm, but today we're only tacking on an additional 3 to 4 degrees, so not much of an increase but feeling like summertime. as we head through the next few

days starting tomorrow temperaturing tumble. we bring back the marine layer, and as a result we stay mostly cloudy for the first part of tomorrow and seeing drizzle as well. the weather in other words, is going to dramatically change over the course of the next 24 hours. 54 degrees in oakland and 59 in concord and we're at 55 degrees in san francisco. no need for a jacket, and san jose at 60 degrees this morning. as we head throughout this afternoon, the jet stream stays to the north. it will drop off as we head through tonight, and that will usher in a stronger onshore flow, more low clouds to start and much cooler weather as a result. the 70s returns and then the low 80s expected in the warmer cities across the bay like gilroy that hit 94 today, 91 in fairfield and 81 in san jose. your seven-day outlook tells the story. we have a full deck of clouds to start, becoming sunny throughout tomorrow afternoon. friday into the weekend we hold onon to that abnormally cool weather. pool day is possibly sunday, that's the warmest day of the

weekend. overall staying nice and cool so we lose that great beach weather. however, it's much more comfortable inland and you can give your aac a big-time break. >> pool day at christina's house. thank you so much. good news at the gas pumps this morning. gas prices have dropped for the tenth straight week. according it to aaa the nationwide average price of a gallon of regular fell to 3$3.4 on tuesday. that's down from $3.76 a year ago. here in the bay area the average price for a gallon of regular in san francisco in $4.01 in oakland $3.99 and in san jose $3.97. analysts say the price drop is due to the declining price of oil and a weakened global economy. up next, a rough night for the giants. the angels get the upper hand on barry zito early on. we'll have the highlights, next. we're looking at a drive, a smooth one for 880 now that the construction through oakland has

this is "today in the bay." good morning to you. here a live look. that's a nice shot. san francisco sparkling on this first day of summer. your time now is 4:54. the giants got a smackdown against the angels in anaheim. barry zito having a rough time in the pitcher's mound. in the last two starts he's allowed four home runs. he pitched just three innings before being relieved with the bases loaded. shot to center, and he can't make the catch. you're going to see it. can't do it. cleared the bases to put the angels up 8-1. giants rallied late in the game, but damage was already done. giants fall 12-5. better day for the a's and pitcher brandon mccarthy. oakland scored three runs in the first frg alone and that's where the score stayed for the rest of

the game. a's get the win there, 3-0. they're seventh shutout of the year. well, internet music player pandora is getting more competition. spodify is adding a free radio feet feuer in the udz. the service is available through apple's app store for use on ipads and iphones. like pandora, the users of the free service have to tloiven ads. users that pay get commercial free users. they have 10 million registered users worldwide compared to pandora's 150 million. >> almost as many fans as mike in oakland has. >> we'll consider sponsorships. i'll wear a patch. we're looking at 85 over at el camino. that off ramp is closed right now because of overnight construction. not a major, dramatic effect on traffic flow, although we see slowing through the construction zone which is present there and

also around stevens creek for 85. the rest of the south bay is not a problem. here's a commute. 280 is up underneath the 880 interchange, very light volume and few cars so no real slowing in the area. we see how things shape up aacross the bay. look at that beautiful view. the lights like red, and it looks like the golden gate bridge. that's the bay bridge over treasure island. golden gate is on one span. you know that. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. a herd of animals stampeded through a town in china. >> it's not the type of herd you would expect. a bunch of donalds here. look at these pictures from eastern china. cameras caught a farmer herding 5,000 ducks to a pond to feed. what a sight. the ducks weaved in and out of traffic through the town. the farmer has done this routinely for six months and he only uses a cane to keep the ducks in line. >> that's amazing.
