>> good morning everybody. it's just before 4:31. >> lots to get to this morning. let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> good morning. that is my name. i've got a good looking forecast. another picture perfect day making for three consecutive gorgeous days in the bay area. 56 in livermore. 57 to start, to start, in san jose. we're headed toward the low 80s yet again. things change over the weekend. the full forecast. mike's following a serious crash. >> it's a deadly accident, unfortunately. we have to start the morning with that news for the south bay. we have live pictures that are off of nortech parkway and first north of 237. it's dark, tough to see but police found a motorcyclist on the ground when they arrived lying in the street. high speed might have been a factor. it's not really clear whether alcohol played a role. they are still investigating the

scene. no word on t rider but we know the scene is closed for one or two blocks. this is sort of an industrial area, a number of churches north of 237 on nortech parkway off of north first. the human factor, we'll watch this and report developments as they pertain to the morning commute. >> we're just hours from the supreme court ruling that will affect millions of americans. the justices will announce a decision on the affordable health care act which could be the president's legacy or downfall. christie smith joins us live in san francisco with what it means to the bay area. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the affordable care act was signed into law by president obama in 2010. as you said in a couple of hours the supreme court is expected to rule on a challenge to that law where one of the main questions is can congress require americans to buy something when it comes to health insurance,

the challengers include 26 states. under the law everyone would have to have health insurance or pay a penalty. many call the law obamacare. the argue summit that health care reform was passed in part because 50 million people lacked health insurance in 2009 and the cost of caring for those without insurance was spiraling out of control. even after the ruling, many predict the health care crisis will continue. >> people who come into health care today it's a great frustration for doctors and hospitals and so forth to not have resources associated with insurance to help take care of people. >> reporter: the supreme court could do a couple of things. it may uphold it, strike it completely or decide to allow parts of the law to stand. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you. stay with nbc bay area and nbcbayarea.com for the health care reform decision. the supreme court will issue the decision at 7:01 our time. we'll have a special report. >> happening now in colorado,

firefighters still trying to get the upper hand on a massive wild fire near colorado springs. we can tell you more than 30,000 people have been forced from their homes, dozens of houses up in flames. a fire along the air force academy there, there had been some evacuations but so far no reports of damage. meantime, two new wild fires burning more than 1,000 acres in utah. firefighters say those flames have burned down one building since sparking near the town of new harmony yesterday. a total of six wild fires are burning in utah. devastation in colorado and utah a reminder for all of us here this is fire season here, so firefighters in one east bay county are saying they are not prepared now to deal with this threat of wild fires on sunday three fire stations in east contra costa county will be closing and 15 firefighters will be laid off. this is happening because voters

rejected a partial tax that would have cost $197,000 a year. >> last year we handled a little over 6200 calls with six stations and now we're going to do that with three stations. >> i think it's pretty serious. there are only so many stations around here and response time is always a concern. >> east contra costa fire will keep 27 firefighters at its three stations, the county is considering a plan to bring in volunteers to help fight fires. >> with little fanfare, governor jerry brown signed a new state budget in sacramento overnight. the spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year is meant to bridge a gap. the governor has not released details of his line item votes. we know the budget relies on voters approving brown's tax initiatives on if ballot.

if they fail, drastic cuts could be expected in a revised budget plan as well. >> california college students have a reason to celebrate the budget deal reached in sacramento. how about a tuition freeze. uc leaders say they will not recommend a tuition hike if voters approve the tax increase come november. regents were considering a $730 increase but the budget includes funding to avoid increased fees. this is all contingent on voters passing the tax hike. a crime scene tape, flashing lights in san francisco as officers investigate an early morning homicide. neighbors in san francisco say they heard at least eight gun shots around 12:30 this morning at the intersection of house street and mount vernon avenue. neighbors say they saw paramedics trying to save the victim before covering the body with a blanket on the sidewalk. no word on suspects or arrests. >> a gunman who shot an east bay

teen in the face is still on the loose. police thought they had the suspect surrounded at an apartment complex yesterday but after a search no one was found. investigators say the suspect fired from the passenger side window of a green bmw suv. the victim remains in critical condition. >> an oakland raider in court trying to tackle off-field legal problems. wide receiver derek hayward bay facing dui charges. he was pulled over in april after the chp says he was driving erratically. officers say he failed a breathalyzer test at the scene. >> today san francisco's suspended sheriff will testify in front of the ethics committee in the hopes of saving his job. the mayor is trying to have ross mirkarimi permanently removed from office for official misconduct in the wake of his guilty plea in a domestic violence case. mirkarimi admits bruising his wife's arm during an argument new year's eve.

that's when mirkarimi's wife, siding with her husband, telling the court that ross has never hit me, punched me or batter immediate or beat me. if i were called to testify the above would be my testimony. lopez also issued a statement criticizing her neighbor for reporting the incident to police. mayor ed lee will testify tomorrow. >> oakland families with special needs children will not have to worry about cuts to their education during yesterday's school board meeting both parents and teachers pleading with board members to save special ed funding. the board agreed to reverse a previous decision which would have slashed more than $4 million. the members originally wanted to cut staffing and create larger special ed classes to try and help close the budget gap. >> what a week weatherwise. simply amazing. >> yeah, you know, hopefully you have been able to give that pg&e bill a break. temperatures have been perfect. not too hot, yesterday was the

warmest of the week. today we're going to come down a touch but very nice yet again with a lot of sunshine, good air quality and temperatures just a little below their seasonal averages for today. yesterday was picture perfect. i have to admit i had to turn my ac on at about 4:00. 56 degrees. i'm kind of a wimp though. 57 in san jose. that's a perfect temperature for any outdoor activities you want to get done early even if it's walking the dog. lots of sunshine and things change into the weekend. we lose a lot of that sun. so you want to seize the day and embrace that beautiful weather. 73 at noon, temperatures are going to be a little on the warm side bat 4:00, bayside, though, another picturesque day holding on to the 70s in san francisco. and of course we're coming off of a big win sweeping the series against the dodgers so a lot of celebrations happening in the city today. and the giants are back at it. we'll have the forecast coming

up in the seven day. here's mike. >> hey, folks i told you about the deadly motorcycle accident so north of 237, i want to put it on the maps again this is a serious situation as far as that accident. not for the morning commute. north of 237, not affecting the flow of your commute traffic which is early. circle it on the maps here. it is also a concern because this is the second deadliest in the overnight hours, just after midnight 101 an accident there, of course no traffic now but we're following this and we don't want that to be the morning trend. we have our eye peeled. 85 to the left we have construction south of 237. here the golden gate bridge, lights across the bridge so a smooth flow. heard about delays around midnight approaching the city getting out to the golden gate. no problems detected so it may have been construction delays. >> in my sleep.

in fines to regulators after admitting that traders and executives tried to manipulate interest rates tied to loans and financial contracts around the world during the financial crisis, in response to the admission barclay's ceo and top executives are going to forego their bonuses. it pledged to cooperate with investigations into individuals and rival firms. we could see more. the futures point to a lower start but the main event today is going to be the supreme court decision on president obama's health care overhaul that's expected mid morning. there also is that summit that has invest gers wondering what is going to happen in europe. european markets have been in the red for most of the day so far, wednesday was the best day for the dow and the s&p here in the u.s. in a week, the dow closing 92 points to 12,627 t s&p up 11 to 1331 and the nasdaq

tracking your weather all year long. it's been gorgeous. another beautiful seasonal day with temperatures in the 80s. i'm talking about the low 80s. just perfection. embrace it because things change as of this weekend, we're going to drop temperatures off, bring in a few more clouds. then next week starting to heat up, the dog days of summer. we'll be back in time for the fourth of july. 54 in san mateo, 51, good were montgomery in santa rosa. 56 in livermore. a little more eager to do the forecast on a thursday, you almost made it to friday and we've got a great looking weekend shaping up for outdoor activities. get out and run. or maybe a couple hours without getting too hot. especially by the water with temperatures only maxing out in the upper 70s in the warmest cities across the bay. we'll hold on to the 80s. a little drizzle tomorrow morning with a little bit stronger onshore flow. this morning we're looking really good. 79 degrees to start you out. in san wh jose, where we're hea, just perfect.

through sunday, 76 degrees. starting to get hot in here on monday, 87. tuesday into wednesday. celebrating the fourth of july, our nation's birthday with beautiful conditions on track with our seasonal averages so not too hot yet. but as we head through thursday, friday, saturday next week, we could be bringing back the triple digits. so i want to point out enjoy this beautiful weather while it continues. back to you guys. >> thank you. i think i'm going to have to skip running with christina. you go for a couple of hours you are a warrior. a piece of history in the glacier off the koefs alaska. the military confirming wreckage near anchorage has been identified as an air force plane that crashed during the korean war. all 52 on board that flight were killed back in the 1952 crash. officials say evidence has been sent to a central identification laboratory in hawaii for further analysis. >> if your car is showing signs of its age, you're not alone.

according to automotive 11 years was the average age of the 245 million vehicles registered in the united states in the first quarter of the year. two reasons for the age. the sluggish economy, the other that cars and trucks are built to last longer so americans are choosing to keep them longer. >> many calling this a first for north america. a housing community for the deaf. the city of montreal building the community which opened earlier this week. it's constructed specifically for individuals born deaf or hard of hearing. close to 90 people live in the complex of 60 apartments and there is a waiting list in the city, hoping to build more of this kind of housing. >> it's 4:50. coming up is the reagan library now the happiest place on earth? we'll explain just ahead. >> challenge from mickey. plus, bouncing their way and somersaulting to glory. representing team usa, boing.

the trampoline title. >> a cool competition. the trampoline championships at the convention center had all of the excitement and thrill of the summer games. in the end, 22-year-old steven glaksin from new jersey and 17-year-old suzannea vinson from louisiana won that competition. >> these letters on my chest and on my back and it makes me proud and to live and train here in the greatest country on earth and i get to represent it. >> i'm honored to be representing the united states and can't wait to go to the games. >> the alternates will be announced today. >> i just -- how do they do that. a peek at the swim trials. we'll look at the 200 meter free style. phelps just nips the .05 second. both of them punching their tickets to the london games.
