"today in the bay's" christie smith is live at oakland's children hospital with more on

this sad story. good morning. >> reporter: it really is a disturbing story. three adults are under arrest this morning and a 3-year-old boy is fighting for his life here at children's hospital in oakland. now police are asking for the public's help locating four other children with ties to that little boy that they feel may be at risk. and they say other family members aren't saying exactly where these four children are. now according to the tribune this morning, monday morning paramedics were called to a house on 63rd street in north oakland for a report of an unresponsive little boy. a baby-sitter said that the little boy was left alone and found facedown in a bathtub. when paramedics arrived the child was apparently dry with clothes on. doctors were able it to revive him after he was brought to the hospital, and police say old and new injuries were consistent with abuse. police arrested the sitter, the stepfather and the mother, but now they need to know where the

four other kids are. >> we want to make sure that we can verify that they are not harmed and have not suffered any type of physical abuse such as the 3-year-old. >> reporter: now, the missing children are 4-year-old paradise mahasin, 6-year-old antwan alexander johnson and 7-year-old zaniyyah johnson and 16-year-old alyajah marie johnson. they tell us that all four are african-american. reporting live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." an east bay mother is fighting for her life after a violent home invasion robbery. this is a follow-up to a story we brought you yesterday. a union city family says three men forced their way into their home on hanford court. the 62-year-old mother was shot in the chest, and her adult son pistol whipped when they couldn't open a safe.

the wounded woman's husband isn't feeling anger so much as empathy. >> they're hungry and they want to feed their family, and this is probably just the only means they know how. >> the robbers got aaway but may have left dna evidence. this was the second home invasion robbery within 48 hours in union city, but police don't think the two crimes are related. two people now under arrest in connection with with a suspicious four-alarm fire that damaged four homes and displaced ten people in san francisco. san francisco police say a woman was arrested late tuesday morning just hours after a 55-year-old man was arrested near the scene of the fire. both suspects now facing arson charges. nobody was injured in the fire, but one home is now destroyed and three others badly damaged. so far no word on the estimated cost of all that damage.

new this morning, a local filmmaker is using his talents to help out in the search for missing teen sierra lamar. we're live with morgan hill this morning with more details on the documentary. good morning. >> reporter: behind us here is the search center for sierra lamar, burnett elementary. ever since she went missing in march, almost every wednesday this is where volunteers meet and head out on searches. recently a bay area independent filmmaker began documenting these volunteer searches, and so far he's put together two mini documentaries about five minutes apiece. they just went viral. to give you an idea, take a listen. >> i have an 11-year-old daughter, and on saturdays she's at home knowing that i'm out here. in her 11-year-old mind she was able to say, daddy, i'm proud of you. >> reporter: joining us live in

morning is brian garcia, the documentary maker for neez two documentaries. thanks for meeting us this morning. >> no problem. >> reporter: so you're not related to the lamar family. what inspired you to make these? >> my inspiration was that i've had a history of making films about children's issues and struggles, so this is my hometown, morgan higan hill. i needed to come and make a difference and help the family out. >> reporter: they're very poignant. what's the message you hope you get out there? >> i hope the message is everyone knows this was random and could happen to any one of their daughters, and i want them to treat syria lamar as one of their daughters. i want more volunteers out here because they're not going to stop looking for her and still looking for her and have so much love for her. >> it does help to put a face to the search. we get to see who these volunteers are who are dedicating their own personal

including the ones you see right here. neighbors are ordered to stay inside their homes while officers cleared the house. fortunately, nobody was hurt. 5:07, this independent day holiday, some use a high-tech crime fighting tool to stop illegal gunfire and illegal fireworks use. "today in the bay" is live at police head the quarters with more on the crackdown. good morning, bob. >> reporter: you might want to reconsider lighting off fireworks in east pallilo alto and here in oakland, because police will be listened with their shot spotter technology. that's the series of microphones in different parts of city to try ang late the sound of gunfire immediately notifying officers of that location. turns out shot spotter works for phoenix and it distinguish between the two. between gain shot and let's say an m-80. fireworks are illegal in epa and oakland. police know people want to celebrate, but they encourage it be done without breaking the law. >> the larger concern is the

fire danger, and that's what we're really looking at. we remember the firestorm many years ago with the significant fire here in the city of oakland, and that's something that our fire department and the city works very hard every year trying to reduce the amount of fires and the damage that it can cause. >> reporter: here in oakland officers will be on specialized patrols today, later tonight in east and west oakland. those are areas where they've had problems with fireworks in the past. not only fireworks but celebratory gunfire which is more dangerous. those bullets fired straight up in the sky must come down somewhere, and sometimes that's on top of a person. if you have illegal fireworks, which is any kind of fireworks here in oakland, and you want to get rid of them, there are several fire stations in oakland accepting fireworks no questions asked. reporting live here in oakland, "today in the bay." we can tell you if you're looking to light up the night with your very own fireworks, there are a few places to do it

without breaking the law. the so-called safe and sane fireworks are on sale in 15 cities throughout the bay area and santa cruz county. gilroy is the only city in santa clara county to allow them. they do not fly or explode. you can think maybe sparklers, fountains and smoke bombs and snakes, laura. they can be bat at 16 authorized booths across the city in gilroy. >> this booth vendor sells the fireworks here. they pay a fee for the city to put an extra fire engine company on duty as well as 12 extra police officers. the purpose is to patrol the streets for illegal fireworks. >> practicing safe fourth of july practices. safe and sane fireworks can only be used in that city where they're bought and only in designated locations. there's a long list of ways it to enjoy all the fireworks

evening, and a lot of people have come into town just for the fourth of july. they are going to get quite a treat when it comes to our weather. you've probably been listening to this newscast. a lot of cities had to cancel shows because of high fire dangers. we see temperatures in the 90s today in some cities across the bay area. you want to play it safe. as you know, it's been a very, very dry spring and, of course, the start to summer has been unusually dry. as we head it throughout the next couple days, we're going to slowly start to decrease the temps today. we will peak and starts off nice and mild, 50s all across the board. throughout this afternoon, we see fog to start but it clears quickly. i stop the clock on the future cast at 8:00 a.m. this is all that's left by san mateo to san francisco. holding onto the clarity about all evening long the fog will roll back in tonight. i'll talk about when in my next report. stay tuned for that if you watch the fireworks from oakland and san francisco, you're interested in the next forecast.

welcome back. fourth of july. we have the oakland coliseum lighted up with our live shot here. another nice day outside and perfect for whatever you have planned for the holiday. tell you about it coming up. it's 5:15. a brush fire that ripped through the hillside in palmdale knocked down this morning. the three-alarm fire flaring up before 9:00 last night. l.a. county firefighters say no buildings were in danger and no evacuations were ordered. in all about 200 acres burned, more than 200 firefighters had to help out to put that fire out. in syria a city at the center of the 15-month uprising and sill under siege. government forces have rained shells on homs. large explosions. look at that. it went through the downtown area yesterday. at least 48 people have died across syria in one day of fighting. in the meantime secretary of

state hillary clinton will be in france for more on talks of the syrian conflict. in france the government continues its investigation of former president nicolas sarkozy. police raiding his home as part of a probe on suspected illegal campaign contributions. investigators say a donor gave sarkozy more money than is legally allowed. sarkozy denying any wrongdoing. in spain strong winds and hot temperatures are fueling a raging wildfire. tens of thousands of acres have been scorched, and thousands of people have been evacuated. the fire has claimed the life of a pilot when his helicopter went down. this is called a major milestone in the fight against hiv. the first ever over-the-counter home test for hiv now fda-approved much it's called oraquick. this test is about 92% accurate and will hopefully prevent the spread of hiv. the fda also says the test should be used as a screening tool.

a positive test should then be confirmed by a doctor. it's a new kind of baby boom. over 5 million babies have been born using assisted reproductive technology like ivf over the past 30 years. it was presented this week at an annual meeting of human reproductive experts. the procedures are much more common and started to be covered by insurance. they still 350,000 so-called test tube babies are born every year. the u.s. and japan performed the most procedures. it's 5:17 right p now. we have the weather grill going good. >> indeed. i don't know if you saw this. cha-ching. good morning to you, yeah. i certainly am a patriot, and this is one of my favorite holidays. i have gone above and beyond to get your forecast as accurate as possible for today. a lot of people will be outside, and it's one of those days where

before the city's ethics commission considering official misconduct charges that could leave her husband without a job. he was suspended by the mayor after the sheriff pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor domestic abuse charge involving lopez. lopez may have to testify via live video. a brand-new documentary on sierra lamar is quickly becoming viral. "today in the bay" is live in morgan hill right now with a look at the bay area filmmaker who created it. marla, good morning. >> reporter: jon, good morning. it's been almost four months since sierra lamar went missing. there have been dozens of searches and many volunteers and many organized by volunteers who would meet right here at burnett elementary in morgan hill. now, this is their search center headquarters. within the past month a grad student at san francisco state who is getting his masters in cinema took it upon himself to start documenting the volunteer

searches and already brian garcia has produced two documentaries titled "help us find sierra lamar." any just went viral, and they really give us a look at who these rovolunteers are. >> i'm from belmont, california and i'm a volunteer here at the sierra search center. i have kids of my own. i just want to tell sierra's family that i love them, and i'm not going to give up. >> reporter: garcia is not related to the lamar family. he says he just wants to help keep the hope alive for sierra. >> i'm shooting these little by little to get it online and get people to keep coming, donating or volunteering. >> reporter: garcia has produced two documentaries.

he's in the midst of making his third documentary. you can find his finished work on youtube. city leaders in the south bay coming to grips with a new fiscal reality this morning. melpedes has a budget shortfall. the public works department took the biggest hit. a private colorado-based company will maintain the 29 parks. many residents are worried that the outside company won't address problems as quickly. >> trees are going to blow down and things, they don't get the response they're used to. all of a sudden everyone will go what happened? >> the city manager says it's unfortunate it had to off so many workers, but ned no college. city college of stf has less than a year to clean up its act or face being shut down. the stunning news from the commission. the xwhigs says city college failed to fix serious,

long-standing problems. they could vote next june to yank the school's accredition. it's a large college with more than 90,000 students. a big win for the 49ers. $30 million in redevelopment funds are frozen while a south bay court figures out where the money should go. they say the voters earmarked the funds for the team's new stadium. that money was handed over to the county this year after local redevelopment agencies were shut down statewide. the county said it would rather spend the money on education. the 49ers say the county does not have the power to take that money away. 5:36 right now. i imagine all over the bay there's cool beverages on ice and probably some steaks and chicken being prepared. the question to christina loren, is it good for grillouts and fireworks? >> as your yoo-hoo gets nice and cold for you, you have a

great-looking day. it's a day where it will be hot, and it's kind of dry out there. you might not sweat as much if frp humid, not aware how hot your body is getting. when you start to sweat, that's your body's way of cooling down. our temperatures approach the 90s today, and we start out nice and mild already. we're at 54 in san francisco and three degrees warmer in san jose. almost uniform conditions and a full deck of clouds along the coastline. it moves as far inland as oakland, and that's it. concord, livermore and ant yoke staying nice and clear all day long. same goes for here at san jose. we stop the future cast here, and we get coastal fog. it doesn't hang around long. by noon today getting that clearing and we stay nice and clear just about all night long. some fog will rogue back in along the marin county coastline in particular starting at 8:00. you get the best view of fireworks trying to get to san francisco.

"today in the bay's" tracie potts is live in washington, d.c. she's out east this morning, and tracy no longer in the comforts of your studio. you're out on the streets in the city. how is the weather today? >> reporter: they threw me out here to see how hot it might get. fortunately i work the morning shift and it's that hottier. we know better and seen the forecast and it's going to get really hot. it's tough for utility crews trying to help. mother nature isn't necessarily

we'll show you the future cast at fog. stop is it at 11:00, between 9:00 and 11:00 some fog will creep in along the ma principle county coastline. looking nice and clear from san francisco to oakland to san mateo and palo alto. the peninsula will not be a fog-out. foam morning it looks like the fog is thick we get a little drizzle. that will keep us cooler as we head through tomorrow and the upcoming weekend. 62 degrees out in san francisco. be ready for na and bring a light sweater or jacket with you, and 63 in danville when the sun goes down and the fireworks light up the sky. i talk about a temperature between 72 at 9:00 p.m. down to 62 at 11:00. once the sun goes down, temperatures drop like a rock. 87 degrees by thursday, and friday temperatures level off 88 degrees, saturday into sunday. great beach weather but no dog days or triple-digit heat yet, guys. we know it's coming eventually. >> let's keep it how we have it. thank you very much.

now to the road to the london olympics. as you can see from the clock right above my head on the upper right corner of your screen, we're 23 days away from the opening ceremony in london. if you're already counting down to the 2022 olympics in lake tahoe, reset that clock indefinitely. the olympic committee officially dropping lake tahoe as a proposed site for the 2022 winter games. it would have been great, but the committee would rather consider tahoe for the summer or winter games two or four years later. vail, colorado, also out of the running for 2022. so far norway is the only country to announce it will continue its efforts to bid for the 2022 games. >> do you mind p if i use your countdown clock for this one? >> go right away. >> badminton is an olympic sport, and a team from the bay area represents the usa in the summer olympics in london.

they're now training at the california badminton academy in fremont and freeted like rock stars out there with young fans wants their autographs on racquet covers. this attention is humbling for bach who started his career at a san francisco ymca. >> to be able to show the youngsters, you know, how tough it is to, you know, set your mind and set a goal and try to achieve it and make the olympics and represent your country. >> check this out. the pair admits they're a long shot, but they'll give it their all. by the way, bach has competed in the olympics two times during the 2004 and 2008 games. his partner won the gold in 2000 for indonesia. the olympic torch is lit in dramatic it fashion at london's olympic stadium. >> it will be cool, but the relay to get the torch there has its share of dramatic moments like this one.
