like -- i'll see what else i can show you. the golden gate bridge, a smooth drive. folks getting off of the bridge moving the cones, not a lot of surprises. that's today's. >> thanks, mike. >> it was a sad and tragic day at the track as it was the last race of the day at the alameda county fairgrounds. >> seconds after the starting gate a freak accident ended the life after 33-year-old race horse jockey. christie smith is live at the fair grounds with more on this tragic story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jorge herrera was fairly new to the racing scene. now the horse racing community is mourning his loss. he was killed when he fell from the horse he was riding here at the alameda county fairgrounds late yesterday. we have video of the final seconds just before the fall. 33-year-old herrera was on a white horse named morito. as he approached the first turn it looks like morito is clipped

by another horse and herrera tumbles off, falling to the ground. the fall happened during the first lap of the race within 30 seconds. >> it appears that one of either his horse or another horse stepped on him and he suffered severe head trauma. >> reporter: the incident is being investigated under review by the california horse racing board and herrera was taken to eden trauma center where he died two hours after the fall. a tribute is being planned in his honor and condolences are being left right now on the facebook page. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> 4:33. new details this morning in a tragic shooting a. 3-year-old boy has died accidentally killed by his father's gun. police confirm that boy is the son of a san jose police officer. the circumstances of the shooting are still under

investigation but police say the family was home at the time. we reached out to san jose police. they are not releasing the name of the officer at this time. investigators are looking to see how many firearms were in the home and how they were stored. we'll follow the story with a live report at 5:00. >> william lynch, the man in the spotlight, admitting to beating a retired catholic priest that says he raped him decades ago is celebrating this morning. a jury returning a not guilty verdict yesterday, lynch charged with felony assault and elderly abuse in the 2010 attack of father jerold lindner. the verdict stunning many including lynch who says he expected to go to jail. >> the jury made a statement basically saying that the way the current state of things as they are, are not acceptable and change needs to happen. i think their decision is a reflection of the social conscious now. >> lynch says he plans to create a nonprofit organization to give

other victims a voice and help end the cycle of sexual abuse in the church. father lindner was not in court for the reading of that decision. >> in san francisco court, two more people now facing charges in the murder of a man believed to be a pimp. parents both accused of killing calvin snead suspecting he was their daughter's pimp. his cousin and another man alfonso williams pleading not guilty to charges of also being involved in the june 4th murder in the bay view district. the d.a.'s office says it will try all four of them together, each being held on $2 million bail and will be back in court next week. >> 4:35. officers say a man who crashed his car after a chase on the bay bridge was drunk. officers say antonio robertson was speeding when he lost control of his car and crashed on the bridge early yesterday morning. both robertson and a passenger were injured in the crash.

officers closed down lanes for eight hours leading to miles of backup. robertson is on parole for false imprisonment and human trafficking. he is expected to face drunk driving and also weapons charges. >> a babysitter is expected back in court on child abuse charges. police say the 24-year-old is responsible for life threatening injuries to a 3-year-old boy who was hospitalized in critical condition. court documents reveal the injuries included head trauma, laceration to the liver and cigarette burns. the boy's father, stepfather and mother were arrested but later released. >> the charges turned your stomach. a horrible one in the abuse taking place in the south bay. 12 severely disabled adults have been found in a san jose home suffering from malnourishment and neglect. police found dozens of dogs, animal waste and no running

water. investigators say the victims were only cloned up when they had doctors appointments. >> the victims were taken to the doctors once a month, and only prior to the doctor visits would they be bathed and new clothes put on them. >> the five members of the family have been charged with abuse and operating an unlicensed care facility. they will all appear in court later this month. the wife of the suspended sheriff now coming to his aid. ileana lopez will fly back to testify at an ethics commission hearing. her husband ross mirkarimi now fighting to save his job after being accused of official misconduct. the charge stemming from mirkarimi's guilty plea to a misdemeanor false imprisonment charge in a domestic violence case the mayor, while he refused to pay for lopez to fly back from venezuela to testify, so now a latino organization is buying the ticket. >> the walk to school will be

safer for students in the south bay. caltrain is giving more than $48 million to state-funded projects that will help provide safer routes for school children. each were awarded $450,000 that will pay for new sidewalks, bike lanes and speed signs to remind drivers to slow it down. caltrain hopes that the project will encourage more kids to walk and bike to school. >> 4:38. very nice seems to sum it up outside. another nice one? >> it is. but we've got a heat wave coming up, guys. temperatures are going to soar as we head into next week. this morning, nice and crisp. 53 degrees to start out in livermore. we have a comfortable day shaping up. plenty of sunshine. we're dealing with quite a bit of fog already this morning. and partly cloudy conditions even here in the south bay. as we head throughout the afternoon the temperatures will climb into the 80s and the 90s return as we head into next week. so, it works out like this for

dumbarton bridge. a smooth drive on that route. a look at the san mateo bridge to the north you see easy drive over from the peninsula with the headlights, it's eastbound. westbound about the same and no problems for visibility. you can see the high rise in the distance. >> a heads up and warning if you plan on driving on the peninsula this weekend. caltrans will start work to build auxiliary lanes along 101 between university avenue in palo alto and embarcadero road. these lanes are all being added up and down the peninsula to try to make it easier to merge onto the highway. the construction will close down the south bay university tonight from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. then northbound tomorrow night, 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. >> still ahead, new unemployment numbers come out this morning. analysts making grim predictions. how the news could affect your stock portfolio, next. >> also, how soaring temperatures across the country could affect your next trip to

expected to have ticked up in june after job growth slowed in may. we only added 69,000 in may and that was very, very disappointing. this time forecasts call for companies to have added 100,000 new jobs. the overall pace is still too sluggish to have made a serious dent in the unemployment rate which is seen holding at 8.2%. stocks slips on thursday after data showed a drop in the u.s. non-manufacturing or services sector last month. and as central banks in china, england and europe took action to stimulate growth. the dow lost 47 points yesterday to close at 12,896, the nasdaq up a fraction, to 2976. another week, another record low for mortgage rates. freddie mac says the average rate on a 30-year fixed loan fell to the lowest since rates were first tracked in the 1950s. the 30-year has been below 4% since december.

rates have dropped with the yield on the 10-year treasury bond. amid concerns about the global economy. federal drug store and supermarket chains are suing pfizer for allegedly confiring to delay sales after cheaper version of lipitor. it's the best selling drug of all time but pfizer lost its patent last year. the suit claims the company signed deals forcing retailers to buy more lipitor. pfizer, however, denies the claim. this is far from over. back to you. >> thank you, courtney. have a good friday. >> investigators in colorado working hard gathering up clues and now say they know where the deadly fire near colorado springs started. after going through more than 18,000 charred acres they located the point of ignition but at this point they have no idea what sparked that fire. the waldo canyon erupting almost two weeks ago, forcing nearly

35,000 people to evacuate. the colorado springs area, that was a mess. it destroyed more than 300 homes and killed two people. the fire, the good news, finally 95% contained so they are getting toward the end but not without a lot of damage. >> over in south carolina, as far as north milwaukee, record breaking heat felt across the country. chicago, wow, setting a record yesterday, temperatures soaring to 103 degrees. you can count on a bunch of humidity out there. in texas, extreme heat blamed for buckling pavement, the lack of rainfall and severe heat also impacting the crops of corn. in the last three weeks, the price of corn increasing by almost 30%. having a tough time. >> the temperatures going up, up, up. we're going to hit higher temperatures this weekend. >> they are going to cool off next week and then we are really going to heat up. this weekend, though, should be okay for outdoor plans without getting too hot. next week, we're talking triple

digits. we have a heat wave on the way but this is the reason. we've been so nice out there. that natural cooling coming off of the pacific. the low clouds. that's what's going to keep us nice today. we broke into the 70s, that was it in san jose yesterday. today, more of the same. a touch warmer in some cities. here is a look at san jose. completely clear to start you out on a friday morning. 53 degrees in livermore, 57 san jose, 51 degrees in santa cruz. you made it to the weekend, maybe you had most of the week off because of the fourth of july. happening on a wednesday. which weekend was the fourth of july weekend. it's your weekend to celebrate we're going to have conditions that will warrant great outdoor activities. fog today, probably a factor till about noon at the coast. same for the bay. inland we'll clear by about 8:00. warm conditions as high pressure is to our south. that's going to bring in monsoonal moisture. what that means is that sticky feeling will be back in the bay area. not just yet.
