13th. for the month of july, "today in the bay." >> yes, i did say friday the 13th. >> i remembered it was friday but not the 13th part. >> don't be scared. it's 4:31. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. i think we've got a lucky forecast. i want to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda in for christina. >> air quality is going to be fine. our temperatures pretty nice. you might notice we have the sea breeze and the temperatures out there we're looking at a lot of 50s and the breezes blowing into fairfield, winds up to 25 miles per hour. look at our day part forecast. 80s inland. 70s around the inner bay and 60s on the coast. with that sea breeze we're watching for fog and drizzle which could slow your commute on the coast. >> good warning. highway 1, we had problems, around devil's slide. that accident and traffic

control looks like it's cleared. here you'll have slowing getting off of the bay bridge over off interstate 80 onto 101 at the curve there, reports of a disabled vehicle partly blocking one of the lanes. and chp heading out there. that will be a distraction. no slowing off of the skyway over to van ness. rob was talking about clouds and drizzle but the visibility okay so far from san francisco to the bridge. you can see all the way across. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >> we start off with that hans reiser civil lawsuit which continues. >> the emotional and kind of bizarre trial could be in the hands of the jury later today. christie smith has more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. happy friday. it's been short but dramatic just about every day, at one point yesterday hans reiser compared himself to moses, he also went on to explain how he

killed his wife. today t judge said it's possible that we could move into closing statements. reiser yesterday acknowledged he would have never led police to the body of his wife had he not been found guilty of murder and offered a lighter sentence to do that. reiser is being sued by his two children seeking more than $15 million in damages for the loss of their mother. he is in court representing himself. asked why he didn't answer his kids' questions about their then missing mom in 2006, he said the purpose is to protect the children and for the same reasons moses thid body in the nd. he suggested he killed her to protect the kids but she made up ailments about them but also admitted she never hurt them. >> she never did anything to harm the children, then explain to me, mr. reiser, why you decided to choke her to death and bury her in the hills. >> he's not a lawyer but even as somebody representing himself i would give him a d-minus at

best. >> reporter: reiser was ordered by the judge several times to stop speculating on claims about his wife's alleged disorder. the kids' attorney said outside the court the more he talks the more he digs himself deeper in a hole. reporting live, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> the city of oakland reeling after seven murders over a single week. now the mayor and police chief say they have a plan. chief jordan says he is working on ways to do more with less, restructuring by moving his investigative and gang task force units out into the field. he's also looking at ways to redeploy forces into the most violent neighborhoods. >> as a department, we have to be more pro active and not reactive. we're pretty reactive because of our limited resources. >> there are two academies filled with prospects, hoping to have more officers on the streets in two months.

>> a scene reminiscent. hundreds of occupy protesters thursday night. the lapd says it was caught offguard by the crowd of 200 people that threw bottles and rocks at officers. not clear if all were part of the occupy l.a. movement. two officers were injured. >> a bomb scare aboard a flight out of jfk forcing evacuation of 200 passengers. a passenger reported strange wiring in the bathroom on a delta flight headed to madrid. an hour after takeoff the plane ended up returning to jfk where it was met by a bomb squad and fbi agents. no explosives were found. but officials do say the wires did not belong on the plane and at this point they don't know where they came from. >> it is 4:35. the controversial project connecting b.a.r.t. to the oakland airport is marking a visible milestone. the oakland airport connector project was launched almost two

years ago. today, girders will be placed between the columns. once finished trains run on a three-mile line replacing the air b.a.r.t. bus system. the half a billion dollar project is set for completion in 2014. >> the sex assault case against pablo sandoval is in the hands of the d.a., the sheriff's office says it found insufficient evidence to charge sandoval half a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her at the sea scape resort last month. now the matter moves to the district attorney's office. >> the case has been submitted to the district attorney. they will make the ultimate decision on what happens with regard to the next step in the case. we don't have an indication from them. pablo is focused on the second half of the baseball season and i know the district attorney will be reviewing what the sheriff's office has done and we'll wait to hear on that.

>> according to geffon the encounter was consensual. >> a hero's memorial for a marine who died for his country six decades ago. 19-year-old tech sergeant james sisney had been missing since world war ii. his remains you see here arrived at sfo yesterday. today he'll be buried at golden gate national cemetery with full military honors. >> they call them the veep stakes, they are heating up in the gop campaign with a local name getting a lot of play for a potential vice presidential spot. stanford professor condoleezza rice reportedly emerging as a front-runner to be mitt romney's running mate. the former secretary of state said she's not interested in running for political office. but her name now among several potential candidates. no comments yet from the romney

campaign or rice herself. >> now accused of making death threats against first lady michelle obama. we've learned mrs. obama was never in any immediate danger. authorities in d.c. say the unidentified officer told fellow officers that he would shoot the first lady. the unidentified officer worked as a motorcycle escort for the white house officials but has since been reassigned. >> it's certainly a wake-up call. hacker style. online security breach at yahoo! may be more widespread. as many as 450,000 names may have been exposed. we're learning the stolen information includes gmail, aol and hotmail accounts. the hacker group claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was warning about what they say are holes in yahoo! security. yahoo! says less than 5% of the

stolen data had valid passwords. experts recommend people change their passwords. >> you should do that on a regular basis. >> it's 4:38. we check in with rob to look at what's going to happen today and for the weekend. >> we're finally here and just in time. the ocean air conditioning kicked on yesterday. you'll notice it this morning. low clouds inland and our temperatures are back in the comfortable range. we're starting off in the 70s, you can see the numbers, 50s across the board around the bay, and look at the winds if you're traveling into fairfield or crossing the benicia bridge watch out for winds up to 25 miles per hour. and all of that wind does have good news. it's not a spare the air day so. we're getting a better stirring of the atmosphere around the bay area with good to moderate air quality straight through the weekend. we have clouds to the south, again those showers will stay across southern california and the southern sierra today. the main type of clouds that we're going to watch will be the low clouds and stratus, hanging

out on the coast today pushing locally inland again as we head to this evening. and notice our temperatures here, hour by hour, nice and comfortable. kind of jacket weather throughout the day around san francisco and the coast. what we're seeing is going to be around for the weekend, a little warmer appropriately enough there on sunday throughout the weekend. >> we'll take it, rob. looking here, we have a disabled vehicle. this time in the south bay. this is on northbound 280 around the meridian exit. chp making quick work. by the time you get there probably not an issue. i want to warn you in case that's at the beginning of your commute. 85 with stretches as well. bottom of the screen, the almaden expressway ramp blocked. then a stretch between 101 and 280, in the southbound direction, heading down to stevens creek, a little slowing. and there is construction blocking a lane or two at times. no big drama for the south bay. out to eastbound highway 4 as well as you travel through

antioch. there's no slowing but this will be a delay. add five minutes east out of pittsburg. off at lover ridge and back on. you get off and onto the freeway. a look at the golden gate bridge as traffic flows through the area. the clouds are high enough you can see the lights but you see the glow, a lot of moisture in the air. rob has been talking about potential for drizzle and maybe fog so a note for drivers through the north bay and the coast. >> mike, you know how it can get on i-80 heading to tahoe. if you are headed that way as a lot of people do, take note, a wild fire is still burning out of control in masser county. new details. cal fire officials say at least 150 homes are threatened. it started wednesday afternoon, scorching 800 acres. it's said to be 10% contained. more than 1,000 firefighters

congress twice as lawmakers investigate the massive losses. some analysts say the number could rise even higher. >> the good news it's friday t bad news for some it's friday the 13th seen as an unlucky day. wall street is praying that's not the case after falling stocks have gone six straight days. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to cnbc. good morning. >> that's right. good morning to you as well. futures are high are after stocks fell for a sixth straight day, the longest losing streak of the year. investors were fretting about the global economy and a number of companies cutting earnings forecast. we get that out on producer prices and consumer sentiment so watch for that. in terms of how the markets closed yesterday the dow dropped 31 to close at 12,573, the nasdaq losing 21 to close at

2866. it is friday the 13th, but that's not always bad luck for wall street. historically stocks average small gains, they ended in the red for the past four friday the 13th, in april the dow, nasdaq and the s&p all fell more than 1%. it might be time to hit the reset button. video game sales dropping in june, the seventh straight monthly decline. analysts say that's due to a lack of compelling new games, sales of consoles fell about 45% as consumers continue to wait for new versions of the play station, the nintendo we and the microsoft xbox. i'm waiting for the wii. >> keep us posted how much you enjoy that one. we'll talk to you in a bit. >> bowler, tennis player, who knows. there is one thing democrats and republicans are agreeing to, they are disappointed that team usa olympic uniforms are made in

china. the uniforms which were designed by ralph lauren were unveiled. today harry reid said that uniforms should be burned. the house minority leader nancy pelosi's response was more tempered. >> we take such pride and they work so hard, so excellent and beautiful and they should be in uniforms made in america. >> team usa will wear the uniforms at the opening ceremony in london on july 27th. >> interesting. burning is a little extreme. i understand keeping it all usa but with folks on the games, and some weather now, rob, what's happening? >> nothing unlucky about the forecast. friday the 13th. yesterday was the last of the hot days around the bay area. this morning you'll probably notice you'll have an extra blanket of low clouds to wake up to as we show you some of the temperatures outside. what a change we're seeing in livermore. it was this time yesterday we were still close to 70. so right now we're in the upper

50s, that's a good sign. it means that the ocean air conditioning is pushed all the way into the altamont pass and into the delta through fairfield where the winds are cranking up. especially if you head across the benicia bridge, probably breezy conditions around the richmond/san rafael and bay bridges through the morning. there you see the wind speeds up to 25 miles per hour. that is good news for the air quality. it's not a spare the air day but you might notice smoke over the bay area. that's from fires toward mendocino county drifting to the south. air pollution, we're not seeing much in the way of ground level ozone levels. we have the giants game. first pitch time around 62 degrees, breezy and cool. no worries about rain for us as the system that brought unusual shower activity across southern california scoots off to the north and the east. around bay area now to the weekend, the sea breeze is going

to keep temperatures down. 70s and 80s through the weekend. the temperatures we're going to see today, same story, saturday into sunday. low 80s around san jose. 70s and 80s out to the tri-valley. it's a little chilly toward san francisco, pacifica and the coast where you may not see much sun as the marine layer thickens up. through the weekend, a little warmer toward sunday but then early next week we're going to turn cooler. cool for this time of year. monday into tuesday, as we kick off the new week. >> thanks so much. >> everybody's tech savvy here but the odds are you probably never heard of nomophobia. >> i looked it up. i think i have it. >> probably a good chance a lot of us have it. >> it's the fear of being apart from your cell phone. i don't know it's a fear. 66% of people surveyed say they have it and they will go to extremes to keep their smart phone close.
