the golden gate bridge toll plaza on this monday, july 16th, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning everybody. happy you could join us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. we want to get to our top story, a protest in san francisco that could cause serious problems for the commute. >> protesters speaking out against a deadly shooting. they plan to shut down muni starting at 6:00 a.m. this morning. mike inouye is keeping tabs on the roads and let you know how to avoid jams. to christie smith to find out what's behind today's protest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. we're at 14th and market streets in san francisco. this is one of the locations that demonstrators plan to gather and start to protest later this morning. according to the examiner, muni

is aware of this planned protest and has made adjustments that are necessary to help keep riders in place to get to where they need to be. event organizers are also targeting third street in the bay view district. that is another gathering point that's happening this morning. the mother of 19-year-old ken harding jr. shot and killed in an encounter with san francisco police a year ago is helping to organize this. according to the examiner, there are questions over where the bullet came from in that fatal shooting. but i can tell you that several light rail and bus lines could be affected. >> go as far as 22, then walk, and find a way. >> how much of an inconvenience would it cause? >> not serious. >> what would be your plan b to get around if they did shut down this intersection?

>> reporter: the protesters target muni but also targeting the san francisco police department, demonstrators say they plan to start gathering as early as 5:30 this morning. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> right now let's check in with mike inouye. he's breaking it down for us, some ideas how to avoid this disruption. >> teleportation was a good suggestion but also we have the option that in the same area where market street above ground you have the muni service, you also have b.a.r.t. underground as well. that's the multilevel access. the embarcadero station, for example. so b.a.r.t. could be an option though muni might have a problem. this is a planned protest so we don't have anything officially scheduled. we're going to follow that as well. if you're getting into the city now this morning the concern is the golden gate bridge. a fog advisory was issued overnight but things change, chp left that advisory there but a live shot shows you not so bad. the glowing lights and christina

has the forecast coming up. we'll look to the maps and show you one issue. the second of two accidents eastbound highway 4 between g and somersville road. it sounds like it's not a big deal over to the antioch, it might be slow. flashing lights but light traffic, guys. >> thank you very much. we'll keep checking. new developments in the placer county wild fire. this morning the roberts fire is about 30% contained. the roberts fire has burned more than 2400 acres near the towns of the foresthill and colfax. it destroyed one home and three other buildings since starting wednesday. a total of 11 firefighters have been injured so far and this weekend 200 area firefighters went north to join a crew of 1,000 to try to get this under control. >> we have this california mutual aid system. in the bay area the bay area fire departments have agreed to

send out up to 120 engines without drawing things down to the point where they are stripped. and right now we sent 15 of that 120 so we're still looking pretty good. >> firefighters say with such a mild winter things dried out faster this year, adding to the concern we may see more fires before this season -- many more, before this season is over. >> an east bay hotel room is a crime scene as police investigate a possible murder. employees at the double tree inn in livermore called 911 after finding a middle age man dead in his room sunday morning. investigators say there are no obvious signs of foul play, but they say they are treating the death as suspicious until they get results from the coroner's office. >> this morning a missing mother and her two young children may be here in the bay area with a man her family does not know. 24-year-old vanessa head told her family she was meeting up with her new boyfriend she met

online. she was seen getting into a car with an unknown man with her 2-year-old son and 9-month-old daughter. investigators say they are concerned because head has a learning disability and because her children are just so young. family was last seen july 7 in sparks, nevada. they could be heading toward vallejo, sacramento or las vegas. >> today the last day for convicted murderer to try to convince a jury to deny his children millions. hans reiser will present his closing arguments in a courtroom. reiser is representing himself against a $15 million wrongful death suit filed on behalf of his children for the murder of their mother. reiser says he has no money and cannot work in prison for medical reasons. he has agreed to sign over his business to his kids. >> this morning the fbi joining the search for the person who tampered with the wiring in a san francisco dispatch center. detectives say somebody broke

into the communications facility on twin peaks and cut several wires sunday morning but officers say none of the wiring was actually stolen. some of the city police and fire stations are dispatched from the facility but police say the vandalism did not impact essential services. anybody with information on this case of vandalism has been asked to call the police department anonymous tip line, we have that for you here. 415-575-4444. you can also text a tip to tip411. with a message starting with sfpd. >> four suspects are arrested for attempted home robbery in burlingame could be tied to a rash of break-ins across san mateo county. two suspects were arrested friday after a neighbor spotted four men walking into her neighbor's back yard on easton drive. two were arrested the next day.

police say the men had items taken during another recent burlingame home robbery. they were driving a car reported stolen after a fairfield break-in last week. >> a big time boost for aids research, this morning -- actually yesterday. $2.7 million was raised. 20,000 marching in san francisco's 26th annual aids walk. congresswoman barbara lee among the celebrities who spoke. the walk originated in san francisco in 1987, and has since raised more than $77 million since its start. so people pouring out and huge support to make it happen. >> great stuff. let's check that forecast. look who is back. meteorologist christina loren. welcome back. >> hey, thanks. last week we were near record highs. just about all week long. this week, just the opposite. we're going to see gorgeous conditions, good monday morning to you. take you out there and show you

what we're experiencing. temperatures are comfortable, we're in the 50s, the upper 50s here in san jose. that means you don't need a jacket this morning. you can go straight to the short sleeves. temperatures are only going to break into the low 70s. even in the warmest cities across the bay. good looking forecast is going to maintain just about all week long. it works out like this hour by hour, city by city. 65 at fremont. about 55 at noon and your future cast tells the story. the light green shading, that's where the marine layer is going to hang out, coastal temperatures below our seasonal average. this is it for today. temperatures at about 64 degrees in san francisco, i think 62 in pacifica. low 70s in places like san jose. that means great weather, you don't need to use your ac, you can continue to give that a break and keep some of that money in your pocket. we hold on to these conditions. the seven-day forecast, though, reveals showers so stay tuned for that.

used to the price drops at the pump. it's because of crude oil, the biggest component of fuel costs. the costs of crude has been fairly stable since late june but the summer demand is still high. the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.41, down about 7 cents from three weeks ago. prices in the bay area are much higher. and san francisco, a gallon of regular is $3.84 that's down 33 cents from a month ago. in oakland it's $3.71 down from $4.07. and san jose it's $3.72. >> wild we're below four bucks. that feels good. >> it's sad. >> reality. 4:41. still ahead, let the mud slinging begin. president obama campaign attacking romney's business record and accusing him of lying to the american people. how romney is responding.

and investors start focusing more on earnings, we get 20% of the s&p 500 reporting starting with citigroup, later on from coca-cola, goldman sachs, bank of america, ibm, and google. though investors will watch ben bernanke he is going to testify on tuesday and wednesday. when the fed chairman speaks, markets listen. the dow on friday with the rally was up over 200 points to 12,777. talk about lucky numbers. the nasdaq gaining to 2908. the government today, a finalized plan to begin overseeing credit reporting agencies. consumer financial protection agency is going to scrutinize if firms are responding to mistakes. some say it's hard to get the errors corrected. sky rocketing tuition and the down economy are forcing a number of families to cut back on college costs. a new study finds that some are

just getting slammed with hot weather relentless heat. a ridge of high pressure that keeps us warm, it's over the central u.s. keeping things hot for everybody except for us. we've got another gorgeous week ahead. we've been enjoying many of these unseasonably cool weeks. 72 degrees in places like san jose. it's going to be really nice. cool conditions to start. area of low pressure is going to move through as we head throughout the next 48 hours. this is going to bring in showers tomorrow morning north of the golden gate bridge. make sure you're ready. looks like we'll see a little drizzle. 70s and 80s just about all week long. by this weekend the 90s return, we get some heat back. so enjoy the cooler weather. things start to change again, looking hot once more around here in the bay area. 4:00, tomorrow morning, we'll meet back here, likely tracking showers on the radar. i think most of this activity will stay to the north of the golden gate bridge, not making its way into the south bay or
