we talked to sunnyvale pd, they haven't given us information because they are too busy. we're here at washington and florence, not far from the intersection of washington and matilda. you can see all of the focus is on that house there with the white columns. you've got several law enforcement cars pointed in that direction, shining their bright lights on that home. we're not clear what's going on there but we know we've seen some officers with guns drawn. they also have the block on the other side of this home blocked off. we know that the situation is so serious that sunnyvale police which is running this operation, has had to call for more help. they have mutual aid help assistance from the santa clara county sheriff's office and the san jose police department and you have several squad cars here as you were mentioning we've seen some officers with guns drawn, we have not heard communication between police and whoever might be inside the home. right now the status quo this is

muni. i did check muni's website before i came on this morning, and it has a note to riders that service may be delayed and suggests that riders allow extra time. specifically in the upper market and bayview neighborhoods. but the agency is also apparently aware and making adjustments to help riders get around. this is planned on the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of kenneth harding. initially it was believed he was shot by san francisco pice but them a report suggested that the bullet may have come from his own gun. that is disputed by neighbors. his mother's group, mobilization of mothers or moms. >> we're not settling for the murders of our children by law enforcement and we're fighting back and we're sanding up and speaking out. >> reporter: the demonstrators have also targeted third street

as another gathering point and they plan according to their information on their website to start gathering at 5:30 or 6:00. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> we continue our coverage with the traffic anchor mike inouye, now mike, if muni is shut down how are people going to get around? >> they have to take probably cars or walk a bike f. you go through 13th and market. it would affect s, jt 22, the 37, a lot of potential effect there. market. also at koych so we'll watch for that and the effects. so far no delays. we'll look over to the maps, in the east bay we're hooking at live shot, through the same area north of 66 where there is debris reported. sounds like a car dropping parts. someone says at hagenberger that's what they see. back to the maps, approaching

the coliseum. we don't see slowing there. however, we do see slowing to the top of the screen ebpassing university and toward the racetrack. in the 50s just before the split. no incidents but i'll track that. we have construction, northbound 880 there is construction, may be a lane or two. 238 starts to show more volume. that's why we see the yellow to the right. we'll follow the castro valley y. >> with 5:05. new developments in that placer county wild fire. the roberts fire is 30% contained. one home and three structures have been destroyed since wednesday. 11 firefighters have been injured. this weekend 200 bay area firefighters went north to join

a crew of more than 1,000 to get control of the fire. >> we have this mutual aid system. in the bay area, the fire departments have agreed to send out up to 120 engines without drawing things down to the point where they are stripped. right now we sent 15 of the 120 so we're looking pretty good. >> with a mild winter things dried out faster adding to the concern we could see many more fires before the season is over. >> an east bay hotel room now a crime scene. employees called 911 after finding a middle age man dead in his room sunday morning. investigators say there are no obvious signs of foul play but they are treating the death as suspicious until they get results. >> a missing mother and her young children may be in the bay area with a man her family does

not know. vanessa head told her namly she was meeting up with her new boyfriend she met on line. she was seen getting into a car with an unknown man with her son and daughter. investigators say they are concerned because head has a learning disability, and because her children are so young. the family was junipero serra seen july 7 near reno. they could be heading toward vallejo, sacramento or las vegas. >> fourcts suspe arrested in an attempted burlingame home robbery could be tied to a rash of break-ins. two suspects were arrested friday after neighbors spotted four men walking into a neighbor's back yard. two others got away. they were arrested. the nen ripped off items, they were also driving a car reported stolen after a fairfield

break-in last week. >> a prisoner will appear in court charged with setting up a peninsula robbery from behind bars. prosecutors say jermaine nelson made arrangements from his prison cell to buy a $14,000 rolex watch off craiglist. an alleged accomplice took the watch. both men are charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. >> dozens of east bay parents trying to keep a school from shutting down. parents protesting across from lake view elementary in oakland, one of five schools saided to be shut down by the district. the rally was organized by the same who staged a sit-in last month. the protesters say the next move is to try to prevent the school district moving its offices onto the lakeview campus. >> last week we dealt with

a&m university will try to find a successor to the school president who resigned last week. the school president had been under fire since drum major robert champion was beaten to death during a band hazing ritual. champion's parents are suing the university for wrongful death. >> fresh off signing with the knicks the bay area legend facing charges of drunk driving. jason kidd arrested sunday after crashing his suv into a telephone pole in the hamptons. nobody else was in the car. kidd's attorney says kidd was returning from a charity event. he was treated at a hospital for minor injuries before appearing in court, one of the new york headlines said "slam drunk." he was arrested and released. >> you can have fun with the headlines on that. >> something is looming in the airline industry you might like. >> if you are looking for an

biggest on a friday the 13th. the markets ended mixed. investors are going to turn focus to earnings. we're going to get nearly 20% of the s&p 500. citigroup is out this morning, bottom line was better but the revenues light. later on we're going to hear from coca-cola, bank of america, intel, ibm, and big old google. they will also watch fed chairman ben bernanke who testifies in front of congress tomorrow. the dow on that friday the 13th rally up more than 200 points to 1 12,777. bp is reportedly close to a $15 billion settlement with u.s. authorities over that massive 2010 gulf oil spill. the company hopes to unveil the settlement by steept resolve all

criminal and civil penalties. bp paid out about $37 billion to cover most of the costs including a charge under the clean water act. and nokia cut the price of its windows phone in half to $49.99 with a two-year contract. the smart phone was just launched at at&t stores in april. the phone has taken a hit after it learned that it won't be eligible for an upgrade to the new windows 8 software later this year. you weigh cheaper phone and not the newest software. >> thank you. bertha mentioned google. the question whether larry page will be in the conference call after that company reports profits. page is back at work after being sick for several weeks, he reportedly lost his voice. but we know very little else. we have absolutely no reason to believe it's terribly serious,

throughout day temperatures are going to stay on the cool side with an area of low pressure dropping in from the north. if this sits and spins to the north of the bay area, north of the north bay even, we are going to continue to see the onshore flow, so lots of cloud cover today. just about all day long in the city by the bay. we'll get partial clearing but more or less sun and clouds. we'll get clearing in the east bay and the south bay as we head throughout the second half of the day. lots of sunshine for san jose and livermore as we head throughout this afternoon. we stop the clock on futurecast, we're going to get showers as a result of this area of low pressure sitting to our north as we head throughout tomorrow morning. we meet back here, likely tracking showers on the radar. most of the activity will stay to the north of the golden gate bridge. enough to slow down your commute. mike and i will be here to guide you through it. temperatures in the 70s. really comfortable day shaping up. 75 in san jose, 67 for oakland. and temperatures that we typically see in the fall,

there an easy drive to the dublin interchange. a light volume here all the way over toward the castro valley y, the golden gate bridge, you see the glow to the lights. all the way across the span from the north bay so low clouds but fog is not as much of an issue. san rafael, we're looking to the north, 101 very clear sail but we do see more cars so the volume building out of novato. slowing down to the san rafael bridge and continuing to the tunnel. >> 5:22. only in berkeley, the place where b.a.r.t. meets art. how artists are giving an old station a makeover. >> this guy is no genie but stuck in a bottle. how a skunk played some bad head games. i'll have the $4 everyday value slam with... bacon.

>> that's right. >> going backwards. thank you for joining us. the time is 5:30. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. we begin with breaking news that we are following out of the south bay, this is where police have shut down a couple blocks in a sunnyvale neighborhood. bob redell is live at the scene with the latest. bob, new information for us? >> reporter: we're hoping for that. good morning to you, marla. police tell us they are sending out a captain to speak with us to give us a better idea why they shut down part of this neighborhood. we're not far from the intersection of matilda and washington where they shut streets cliding part of florence on washington. you can see that house with the two white columns where squad cars have turned their wheels, parked in front illuminating it with headlights and spotlights. whatever is going on it's serious enough that they call forward mutual aid, they called in backup. we've got can to clara county

sheriff's department, los altos police, at least maybe about ten, 12 squad cars on this street alone. more squad cars blocking off the street down the way. there's also an officer with a canine, a dog, it's not clear if the dog is being used to search or to secure the location. in spite of the fact law enforcement has been here we spoke to a neighbor a couple doors down and found out what was going on. >> i just got dressed and came out my house and i seen a bunch of police lights. i don't know what's going on. didn't hear anything. >> reporter: how is this neighborhood? >> very quiet. >> reporter: it has been quiet with what's going on here. we haven't heard any sounds from police in terms of communication, if there is somebody inside we have not heard them yelling out as we've seen in other situations similar to this. it's not clear if there is someone inside or what connection the house has.

to be. event organizers have also targeted a third in the bay view as another gathering point. the mother of 19-year-old kenneth harding shot and killed a year ago in a shootout is organizing this. police were chasing him for fair evasions. there are questions where this bullet came from. several light rail and bus lines could be affected. >> go as far as 22, then walk. find a way. >> how much of an inconvenience would it cause? >> not serious. >> what would be your plan b to get around if they did shut down this intersection. >> teleportation. >> the protest is targeting muni but also san francisco police and we have seen several officers starting to gather. so muni running as usual about protesters saying they are going

today is more like an american invasion at heath row airport. olympians expected to arrive in london including the bulk of team usa and their families. some 16,000 athletes are due to arrive over the next couple days. 90% of those will be traveling through heathrow. >> how exciting. a change of heart means a stanford athlete will compete in the olympics but not for team usa but for nigeria. morton will run the 400 meter hurdles for his home country. his mom tells the "mercury news" she is surprised because her son threw away his passport and would never go back. morton says he is proud to represent his mother's homeland. he has an unbeaten season. the first round is scheduled for august 3. >> this one is a major international event and they are
