that might demand the slow lane closed. there is quite of bit of activity and that's causing the slowdown toward airbase parkway. let's get a live look. there is the upper deck getting into san francisco, no delay on either deck. we have a smooth light drive out of oakland into san francisco and vice versa. back to you. >> thank you, mike. >> we lead off with decision 2012. president obama waking up in san francisco this morning following a very busy day of fundraising all over the east bay. >> a busy few days. air force one will be headed to oregon. christie smith is live at sfo with more on the president's visit. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. that's right. we're at sfo this morning waiting for that take-off in a couple of hours but a very busy schedule in the bay area for president obama including a hop to reno, then he came back, had three fund-raisers in the east

bay, then today he heads up to the pacific northwest where he's going to continue with more fund-raisers there. yesterday hundreds of medical marijuana supporters took to the streets outside of the fox theater upset with federal crackdowns on dispensaries. some right there in the neighborhood. anti-war groups also there. but there were also big crowds of supporters who paid $100 to $7500 to see and hear mr. obama in oakland. his first visit there as president. while he didn't talk much about medical marijuana, there was a couple of swipes at republicans and optimism to go around. >> we are a young nation. and we've got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe. you can see it here in oakland. no matter what the naysayers tell us. >> reporter: mr. obama also said it takes more than one term to restore the american dream.

earlier the president raked in an estimated $1.5 million for the obama campaign at a private dinner that was held in piedmont. president obama should be leaving the bay area around 10:00 this morning from here he heads to portland and then seattle. reporting live in sfo, christie smith. >> mitt romney is in reno speaking to the same audience the president addressed 24 hours earlier. romney will speak to the veterans of foreign wars and is attacking the president's views toward the business community. on the other side the president says romney just isn't ready to be the commander in chief claiming romney lacks foreign policy experience. romney is getting set for an overseas trip, the first stop the london olympic games, then israel and poland. >> a police stand-off ended in east oakland. officers surrounded a house in the 2300 block of east 24th yesterday afternoon. it was believed two suspects

want for shooting at a cruiser were hiding there. crews -- streets were closed between 23rd and east 23rd and 24th for several hours. >> san jose police are asking for help to solve a deadly double shooting near japantown. we brought to the you live as the scene was unfolding yesterday. a couple was shot to death while their young children slept nearby. witnesses reported seeing a gunman run away on foot but didn't get a description. the family tells nbc bay area thinks it's a jealous ex-boyfriend however police are trying to identify a suspect and a motive. in the meantime, a neighbor who did not want to be on camera tells us about the couple's children. >> devastating, to me i'm thinking these kids, poor thing. they are going to be traumatized for life. >> the oldest child 8 and the youngest 5. if you have information on the crime you should call san jose police. >> the legal process is under

way in the wake of one of the worst mass murders in u.s. history. james holmes accused in the movie theater shooting in aurora, colorado leaving 12 dead and close to 60 injured. the initial court appearance was yesterday. leanne gregg is outside the theater with the latest. >> reporter: the makeshift memorial keeps growing across from the theater, a day after a brief hearing to read 24-year-old james holmes his rights. the accused mass murderer seemed dazed, never looking any one in the face, as family members of some of the victims sat nearby. >> he does look fairly seems like demonic or something like that. his eyes are just crazy, kind of crazy looking, you know. just something wrong with that man. >> reporter: holmes, once a top neuroscience student recently dropped out of grad school. police say he spent thousands on weapons and ammunition, dressed up like a villainous batman character and opened fire in

this aurora, colorado theater. ten were dead in the theater. two died later. among them jessica ghawi. her friends called from the theater. >> awakened by the most horrific scream i heard in my life. i thought somebody was in the house stabbing my wife in the heart. >> reporter: the victims range from 6 to 51. there are many stories of heroism, alley says her friend stephanie saved her life. they made it out alive. >> we're laying there literally in the mouth of hell and when i say literally i mean literally from every aspect. >> i just remember opening my eye, i'm on the ground, blood everywhere, and i just heard her saying alley, get up. >> there is no word about motive. as holmes' past is examined an entire community is left to wonder what led to the killings and how this devastated

community will recover. formal charges are expected to be filed monday. a decision on whether the prosecution will seek the death penalty will come later. leanne gregg, nbc news, aurora, colorado. >> 4:37. two men accused in the beating of bryan stow are expected back in court. a judge has ordered the two to return to court for a pretrial conference. during hearings witnesses described a brutal fight outside dodger stadium in march 2011 that left stow with permanent brain damage. sanchez and norwood pleaded not guilty. >> a second suspect in the murders of a father and two sons in san francisco four years ago will be arraigned today. wilfredo reyes had been hiding out in north carolina. he is accused in the deaths of anthony, michael and matthew bologna in 2008. his alleged accomplice, edwin ramos, was sentenced to life in

prison for the murders. >> a south bay community is coming together to help reunite a family separated by immigration law. local activists teaming up with church groups to bring back the parents of three san jose children born in the united states. the 14-year-old who is a junior and his two younger brothers have not seen their mom, dad and baby sister the past few weeks. they were deported to mexico after ice agents stopped them for a traffic violation which occurred more than a decade ago. >> it was supposed to be resolved and so to his surprise this traffic violation in minnesota 14 years ago comes back in this obviously disproportionate way. >> san jose's our lady of guadeloupe church have been assisting. they say the only way the parents can be brought back is through a court order. >> checking the forecast, meteorologist christina loren, see what's in store for tuesday.

your day's probably getting started. maybe a little toast. >> eggs and bacon and we're talking. >> i really like that. first, a little business news. another bay area company facing layoffs. for the rest of the news before the bell we turn to kayla tausche. good morning. >> good morning. layoffs after more for cisco systems cutting 2% of its work force or about 1300 jobs as part of the company's ongoing restructuring program. the move on top of cuts announced last year and after the ceo john chambers gave a bleak assessment of the global economy in may. the government is urging colleges and universities to adopt an easier to understand financial aid form to help students make smarter decisions. the department of education and the consumer financial protection bureau is unveiling a one-page shopping sheet that would provide students with information on the cost of

tuition, housing and other fees so they can decide where to go to school, how much to pay and what they will owe. futures are slightly lower after the dow suffered again from a case of the mondays. closing down for the past, get this, eight mondays, the first time that happened in a decade. stocks did claw back from a sharply lower open, the dow had been down as much as 239 points, on fresh concerns about europe and whether spain will need a bailout. no economic data today but we get earnings from at&t, dupont and apple. the dow losing 101 to 12,721, yesterday the nasdaq falling 35 to 2890, hopefully if these futures stay in the red we'll be able to climb out from those lows again today. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> there is no secret the economy may be sluggish but in some bay area counties home values finally bouncing back.

a new report out from real estate tracker zillow shows four counties have gone up. san francisco, leading the charge, increasing 4.7% to $680,000. santa clara county up more than 3.4%, that's $575,000. san mateo and alameda counties seeing increases but well, not all good news. solano county home values down more than 3%. >> the taxes are going to probably creep up too. i want to check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> temperatures are down today which is good news for the hot folks, the inland folks. i'm talking about livermore, concord, pleasanton. i could go on all day. we're looking pretty good. the good news is we're going to continue this throughout the remainder of the work week. if you like it hot, we're going to bring those temperatures right back in as we head into the weekend so up and down

swings continue. no consistency but hey, keeps my job more interesting. we're in the upper 50s this morning throughout the east bay, 57 degrees in concord, fairfield, 56 oakland. 56 degrees this morning here in san jose. so, the next 48 hours high pressure takes a hike to the south. cool air moves in. an area of low pressure is moving in so for us today we're talking about slight cooling, 3 to 5 degrees, then the low 80s. low seasonal averages through wednesday. so much cooler than average weather continues. the summer has been cooler than average. we'll keep that in the mix. 78 degrees in fremont. the east shore getting some of the most comfortable readings, 76 in oakland. about 69 in san francisco with clouds to start. 80 in redwood city and 70 in santa cruz. we'll be down to 84 inland tomorrow, continue that through thursday, and then saturday, sunday, we heat right back up. the good news is we're not
