>> good morning everybody. it is 4:30. i'm marla tellez in for jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. a day away from the opening ceremony of the london olympics. >> our own raj mathai joins us live from the olympic park in london this morning. hey, good morning, raj. good to see you. >> hello from london. we made it. a 10-hour flight from sfo. we're here. a lot of bay area residents are here and most importantly the olympians are here. about 60 from the bay area descended on london for something that should be so special for the world. let me tell you where we are. we're in london but you think of london you think of big ben, buckingham palace, the tower bridge. that's not here. that's about five miles away. we're in east london, a place revitalized thanks to the olympics. i'll step out of the way. this is olympic park. they have done a great job in

transforming this place that was dilapidated for many decades. the site of tomorrow's opening ceremonies. should be pretty incredible. we have about three weeks of amazing competition and all of our local athletes, it has been so enjoyable not just the last couple days but weeks spending time with them and seeing and sharing their experiences that we'll share with you back in the bay area. so that's it for now. our first morning show live shot here from london. i like this. i've been up for hours waiting for you guys to wake up. i'll send it back to you. 4:30 a.m. bay area time. >> we'll have fun having you on the morning show. raj, we'll be back today all morning long. we'll see him again coming up at 5:00. thanks, raj. >> a nice clear shot from london. they have warm temps. christina loren is checking the bay area forecast. >> i'm taking a look at both.

let's start with london. good morning. one day away now. it's going to be cooler in most bay area cities than what they are expecting in london town. 80 degrees today, down to 76 tomorrow and there is a potential for a stray shower during the opening ceremonies. that's what we're watching for. about 30% chance. 67 degrees on saturday. for us today, temperatures mild in the 50s, your full forecast a few moments away. cooler weather today. >> we'll start with london traffic. they drive on the other side of the road. just a note. we're looking here on our normal traffic flow. this is an issue. construction blocks two lanes westbound 580 as you head over to the bay bridge, the toll plaza and upper deck. the traffic so light through the area it's not affecting the flow but there you go, the approach to the bay bridge. live look outside shows you also the golden gate bridge and the golden gate bridge has construction on the approach out of the waldo tunnel. the southbound direction traffic slows a tad bit down to one lane.

crews should be cleared in a few minutes. that might be why we're not seeing anybody, headlights on the top of the screen starting down the southbound direction. they may have cleared now. back to you. >> 4:33. prosecutors have filed new charges against a man accused of molesting girls as a daycare. turns out he got the job after being fired from another child care position. keith woodhouse is accused of molesting three girls. the families are suing woodhouse and the day care and now they added church on the hill in san jose to the list. woodhouse worked as a counselor there in 2007. he was let go after employees allegedly saw him molesting girls in a swimming pool. the incident was never reported. >> had the reports been done, had somebody just spoken up and said something to begin with, it's possible that these girls would not have been allegedly molested. >> the families are upset because a supervisor at the

church later gave woodhouse a positive recommendation to work at the day care. attorneys claim they failed to do adequate background checks. church on the hill and trace have not commented on the new allegations. >> san jose police released a picture of a suspect in a brutal double murder. this is 31-year-old pedro medina. police say he is wanted in the brutal murder of a couple killed in front of their three children. officers say medina has multiple tattoos including a grim reaper on his right lower leg. the shooting happened in the couple's home in the japan town neighborhood. investigators believe he is on the way or has arrived in a los angeles area, and may be trying to flee to mexico. 4:35. a bay area hiker has been found dead near the sequoia national forest. 31-year-old thomas hang seen here left sunday for what was supposed to be a day hike to the

summit. it's near the border of the national forest along highway 395. he was hiking with friends but split to hike to the peak. so far the circumstances around his death are not released but we will update you with new information when we get it. >> an alarming case of animal cruelty in monterey county. more than 100 kittens found dead. the ashes of 40 more discovered and 50 other cats rescued in terrible condition. a company that manages two properties alerted police and the spca. they seized 51 adult cats and found the remains of at least 113 kittens. the living cats were taken to the shelter to receive care. >> it took us about 6 or 7 hours from start to finish. it included the time here triaging all of the cats getting them medication, getting them in

safe living quarters. >> the cats are suffering from infections and pairrasites. >> a food recall is under way this morning all because of something the nbc bay area investigative unit uncovered and this morning we are showing you these exclusive photos of rodents and feces in the bay area company that prompted all of this. the chief investigator is back with new evidence of the infestation and the filth. >> good morning. it is our first look inside the san francisco herb and natural food company, a clear indication why our sources call it disgusting, why the state embargoed all sales and shut down the business. you're look at exclusive photos taken two months ago inside the san francisco herb and natural food company obtained by nbc bay

area investigative unit. disturbing pictures from inside the food distributor. bags of herbs, natural foods and spices infested with rodent droppings. >> he is the chief of the california department of public health. >> this is in all corners of the warehouse and in between and throughout so this has gotten to a point where again they have become to live and breed in the warehouse. >> a day after an nbc bay area investigation, first reported deplorable conditions in the plant, the company issued this nationwide recall of 16 products. the release says it's due to the potential contamination of filth. >> by definition of law the products sold in this facility over the last months are adulterated because of the massive rodent infiltration in the facility. >> two weeks ago after learning of an nbc bay area investigation t state posted this notice,

embargo that stopped the distribution of more than 1 million pounds of product in that wareuse. >> until they have successfully and completely eradicated that pest problem we're not going to begin the process to get them back in operation. >> the owners of the company declined our request for interviews and through an attorney issued a no comment comment. the 16 recalled products are primarily sold on line and we're told they are also sold at some local grocery stores and bakeries. right now on nbcbayarea.com you can get a list of all of the recalled products. go to our home page, click on the main story, and it will take you to that location. now, if you have any of the products, the company and the state urging you to destroy them immediately. i'm tony. nbc bay area news. >> let's talk about something more pleasant, the weather in the bay area.

meteorologist christina loren has a look. >> a little more pleasant. good morning. a great looking day shaping up. temperatures are cool to start. it's refreshing. in fact, we're holding on to 60s in some cities, sunnyvale, being that city on the map as you can see here, temperatures are on the brisk side. but we're going to warm up quickly and temperatures overall will be comfortable. if if you did have to use your ac yesterday, you won't have to today. we're taking the temperatures down by about 5 degrees. in san jose you might have to, in the east bay with 82, 83 in livermore today. so, as you head throughout the afternoon, we're going to see comfortable conditions, slight cooling, mainly sunny. 10 to 20 degrees spike as you head through the next 72 hours. take a look at this. beautiful conditions for late july. 77 in san jose. and 82 in livermore. your full forecast in moments. let's check the drive first. >> to the south bay, traffic moves smoothly in the northbound commute direction, but as we

the olympics starting ceremony, we're a day away now. we'll have live reports all morning long from raj mathai. 4:44. >> most kids who decide to run away from home don't get very far before they change their minds or a parent catches up to them. that certainly was not the case for an 11-year-old british boy. he ran away during a shopping trip. he made his way to the airport and managed to get through security and on a plane. it wasn't until the flight to rome was off the ground that staff figured out he was alone and had no ticket or boarding pass. >> certainly not proud of what's happened and that's why we and the airline are doing an investigation, as you think about what security is like at this time of year, there's lots of families traveling on holiday. >> passengers and the public are rattled about the state of britain's airport security. the boy, though, is safely back home with his family this morning. >> no doubt got a good talking

to. the markets bracing for more earning reports especially facebook. time to check in. good morning. >> hi, good morning. futures off of their lowest point this morning after comments from mario dragge in the european union. the dow breaking its three-day losing streak on positive earnings from boeing and caterpillar. apple putting a dent after its earnings missed wall street's forecast. there are red arrows in europe starting to reverse. we'll get earnings from exxon-mobil and united technology. the dow rising to 12,676, the nasdaq losing 8 to 2854. shares of zynga plunging in trading to an all-time low. the stock is down 70% from its

ipo price, the maker of games reported disappointing earnings and slashed its target people are spending less time playing its games, facebook stock fell 8%, it gets about 12% of its revenue from zengga. "the wall street journal" reporting that the auction site may let kids under 18 set up accounts to buy vintage clothing, jewelry and school supplies. ebay lets teens use its paypal debit card with parental supervision. >> thanks for the update. >> now walmart has another class action lawsuit on its hands, this time from disability rights activists. the suit claims the retail giant refuses to make payment machines accessible to customers who use wheelchairs or scooters.

it even claims that walmart knowingly placed the card swipe machines beyond disabled people's reach at dozens of its california stores. walmart leaders have yet to comment on the suit filed in u.s. district court in san francisco yesterday. >> environmentalists are vowing to fight governor brown's plan for a tunnel. the u.s. interior secretary joined the governor for the announcement wednesday. the 37-mile, twin tunnels would carry water from the sacramento river to the state's aqua ducts. the governor says it would make the water supply more stable and protecting fish. >> we know about climate change and with the faster snowmelt that these loves can be overwhelmed. we know the levees cannot be fixed in a way some of the critics recommend and we know the seismic threat is real.

our own raj mathai, he is there, going to be providing us live reports throughout the morning and throughout the olympics. looks like a nice day there. it is 4:53. >> stories about the victims and survivors of the horrible colorado shooting continue to be told. one victim began to blog about her ordeal from her hospital bed. the words she wrote reached a bay area ceo. the executive stepped in to help. >> reporter: in the midst of the theater shooting, carly richards, seeing the movie with her boyfriend when she writes on her blog, they were hit with tear gas. and then she was hit with gunfire. >> it was already something that i -- impacted me greatly. but to find out one person who was very close to us, it really brings it home. >> the ceo of san francisco based zivity, a website where models from all over post photos of themselves they can sell to

fans. carly richards posed for a photo shoot in colorado before going to the theater. >> i'm looking forward to that photo set she submits to us. at the same time it's just a profoundly sad thing, you know. the clothes she was wearing in the photo shoot she did for our site she won't retrieve. >> she paid richards' medical bills action then start a fundraising effort to help. >> i thought it would be right for us to step in and help pay her bills, so we filled out the remainder amount that they claim they need to make sure that she gets all of those needs met including psychological care. >> richards hospitalized the night of the shooting will be okay. and what happened to her will now, thanks to a bay area ceo, help other families affected. >> amazing how the internet brings people together. >> a touching story. mike inouye joins us now with a look at the traffic. >> you know, the east bay, there

is a lot going on but no major slowing. now we're looking here to 880. there was an earlier accident, a tow truck that was towing an escalade got hit. they are looking for the car. the activity has been moved off the street. no slowing and no drama up into san leandro. despite the construction that i marked northbound side we have construction, between 23rd and 980. the southbound side has lanes blocked. it will move in the next 15 to 20 minutes. i'll let you know about delays. more crews for 580. heading to the maze. westbound. also westbound 24 at fish ranch approaching the caldecott. the slowing eastbound. no incidents in the area. i'll let you know if there are problems heading over there. a live look outside. we'll send to you the north bay, looking at the flow southbound with the headlights around the curve heading into san rafael. north i told you in novato a
