minutes ago referring to me that you would shake that bum out of bed. >> i didn't think you could hear me yet. >> reporter: i hear things. we have what we call a telephone line now from the bay area here to london. yes, i'm out of bed. we are ready to go. it's 2:00 p.m. london time. we got here on monday, it is now thursday, we got over our jet lag, we converted our u.s. dollars into british pounds and this whole city is ready. they have been preparing and hyping this for the last seven years and we're here. some of the final preparations in the olympic stadium are behind me if you listen you can listen to some of the music here. we heard cherries of fire, that song, which apparently will be part of tomorrow's opening ceremony. also we hear that sir paul mccartney will perform "hey jude." >> over there is the athletes

village. they won't have far to walk from the village into the stadium. that's tomorrow night. and we have about 60 bay area olympians, 60 of them, approximately, here in london competing for the next three weeks. we'll have our hands full and have great storylines throughout these games. coming up later we'll check win kerri walsh, the medalist from saratoga, not only dealing with beach volley ball but raising two young sons who got here today. she is worried about their bed time and sleep cycle as laura you can understand. >> as a juggling mom. should be fun. thanks, raj. >> raj is going to be back with us all morning long. we'll see him again coming up in five minutes or so. >> developing news for you in the south bay. san jose homicide detectives called to the scene of a fatal stabbing on east st. john and second street. job redell brings us the latest.

what do you know now? >> reporter: good morning. some new developments. this was the scene here at the trinity episcopal church where the stabbing took place last night. two friends of the victims crying, hugging, mourning the loss of their friend stabbed to death last night. they wouldn't speak on camera but did tell us they had just returned from the police station where they had been speaking with police. it's not clear how helpful they were in giving leads on a suspect. there have been no arrests so far and police have yet to put out a suspect description. authorities found out around 8:40 last night from 911 calls, people reporting a man face down in front of the church. police realized he had been stabbed at least once in the chest. the man who appears to be in his early 30s later died at the hospital. for whatever reason, police do not believe this was a robbery. again, there is no suspect

description. they don't know who did this and no arrests so far. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> 6:03. today the second most important day in facebook's life. the day it opens its financials to the public for the first time. scott mcgrew is live in menlo park and says many investors are holding their breath. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. i think somewhere some place the naysayers, the i told you sos, are waking up ready to say i told you so if facebook doesn't hit this number. $1.15 billion. this is the street expectation as to what facebook is going to make. if they do not they will disappoint a lot of investors. facebook remember, has been downplaying expectations. it released revised forecasts just before its famous ipo in may. constantly admitting it has a problem with mobile. here you see the highs and the lows in boy, it's a long time

since we've seen the highs with facebook down better than 20% from its ipo. if facebook misses its estimate it will be another day of bad press for the company as it's well off of its ipo highs. it has been sort of a bad week for tech stock in general. we saw apple miss its expectations and lost $27 off of its share price, then zynga saying it wouldn't make money and that got crushed as well. facebook, that's after the closing bell today. >> thank you, scott. new this morning five victims, three armed robberies. police warning people to be cautious after the same bank branch was hit. stephanie chuang is live with the latest. some of this is in broad daylight. >> reporter: that's what's surprising in all of this, in broad daylight also in a pretty

busy area. we're just down the street from the marina exit of 880 here at merced and marina. the latest of the holdups was tuesday around 8:00 when a 25-year-old woman says a man pointed handgun at her and she handed over cash. sunday night a gunman second in line pulled out handgun, he and an accomplice got 200 bucks from each of the three in line. two people held a man at gunpoint and taking his wallet. they are on loose and police are warning to be extra careful. >> careful when you go to the atm. >> i don't know what intention they have. have to take care with old people watching around and everything. >> reporter: maria rodriguez there works at the denny's. she says police are often in the area but is hoping they will increase patrols especially after the manager reportedly

warned of war break-ins in the parking lot. you see there is surveillance camera here at the atm, also somep at the denny's. police have been checking both we last year. the descriptions are pretty vague. but so far the good news is that none of the victims were injured and police hope to watch the people responsible so no one is hurt. >> in san francisco's union square a frightening ride for passengers on a cable car. a driver hit the car with riders on board, this happened near geary street after 10:00 last night. this is in the heart of the shopping district. we understand the driver may have been intoxicated, driving slowly, though, when she hit the cable car. no passengers were hurt but the cable car driver did complain of pain. the driver is in custody this morning. >> a sad end to the search for a missing bay area hiker.

last night rescue teams found the body of thomas heng. the 31-year-old left for what was supposed to be a day hike. friends with him say he had split from the group to climb the peak of the mountain. >> a horrible case of animal you'llty. the carcasses of 100 kittens found in monterey county. a company alerted police and the spca. they found cats in deplorable condition. they were shane to the shelter for medical exams and receive care. >> the cats are suffering from respiratory infections and parasites. the investigation is ongoing. as of now no arrests have been made. >> 6:08 now.

i want to get a look at the forecast with meteorologist chriina loren. >> we have a great looking day ahead. good morning to you. starting with this live look over san francisco, mostly cloudy conditions. the marine layer is lowering. back in the distance we have the golden gate bridge getting socked in. i think the fog will be most dense between 7:00 and 8:00. not a lot of difference here in the sky. you'll find mostly cloudy conditions to start. the temperatures are downright crisp. perfect conditions for early morning outdoor activities. we're at 56 in san francisco. a little chilly in the north bay. it all works like this. your hour by hour detail. comfortable at noon but might get too hot for a jog later on when we hit the low 80s. 60s at the coast. hot weather days away.

>> welcome back. time for a check of the day's top stories. san leandro police are looking for two men holding up people at the same atm. there have been three holdups at a wells fargo and a denny's parking lot across the street near 880 and marina. days apart from each other. police say the men are armed and have struck in broad daylight. >> facebook investors holding their breath as the company prepares to report its first earnings as a publicly traded company. facebook needs to report at least 1.1 disease bi$1.1 billio. shares are about 25% off their ipo price. >> a church has been added to a lawsuit brought by the parents of children allegedly molested by keith woodhouse.

his former employer church on the hill allegedly failed to report abuse incidents there, then gave him a recommendation to work at a daycare center. woodhouse is facing charges involving three girls at a daycare facility. >> the countdown to the london games is winding down this morning. it's a bright thursday afternoon already in london. a live look over the city as it enjoys the calm before the competition. our own raj mathai is live in london overlooking olympic stadium. there are some security scares under way. >> reporter: we're just in the last few minutes learning about this. obviously security is such a big concern, not just in london but every city that hosts the olympics. right here at olympic park there is a shopping mall called the west field mall. it's the biggest shopping center in the entire united kingdom. in five or ten minutes we heard the mall has been evacuated by british officials. we don't know why. hundreds of people were taken

out of the shopping mall sent out to the streets as the mall was closed down for a brief period. a short while after it was reopened so it's okay but there was some sort of scare. it's not just any shopping center. like i said it's here at the olympic park, also the central hub to a lot of subway stations so a lot of concern right now, a day before the opening ceremony about security. from security we're going to talk politics. this is how it works president president obama and republican presidential candidate mitt romney they know the deal once the olympics begin tomorrow, air time is, well, for them comes at a minimal so they try to get their message across as much as they can before mr. romney playing it pretty well. he here is in london, a few moments ago arriving at 10 downing street. the home of david cameron. meeting a lot of high powered british officials and very familiar with the olympics and how it works. you might recall in 2002 he

headed the salt lake olympics, in utah, this begins a week-long overseas trip. for mitt romney we go to a controversy on the soccer field. as you might know the women's soccer tournament here has be n begun. last night there was a mistake with the flag. the north korean women's team walked off because they were upset because the officials at the stadium put the south korean flag up on the jumbotron so the north koreans walked off the field. about an hour later that graphics mistake was fixed. they put up the north korean flag so the north koreans came back and played their match and won their game. some hiccups to start but hopefully tomorrow for everyone considered there will be no more. we're just learning a few minutes ago that the west field mall was evacuated for a brief

time. back to you in the bay area. >> security has been heightened there as well. we'll enjoy checking back with you again, raj. >> carrying on with the olympics now, an olympian competing for greece has been kicked out of the games because of twitter. the olympic committee banned the athlete from the competition because she posted a racist tweet allegedly. now fans have started facebook groups asking the committee to reinstate her. sports psychologists say some treat their accounts like a journal. >> a lot of athletes are private but it's interesting when they get on their phone they feel i can say what i want. it's a way to express all of that emotion they don't have an outlet mor. >> social media is such a huge part. there are four a pages of guidelines for athletes. >> some of the good things they post as well gives you that

where a crash, a car crashed into a house on cooley avenue not far from ikea. we have pictures coming in. take a look at this as a tow truck is going to have to pull this car out. early reports indicated that the car crashed into a room of an infant child, a baby that was in a crib. the good news to report is police say that the child was not injured. no one was remarkably injured. there were at least four people in this cadillac that fled the scene. police continue to look for them. we have a reporter live on the scene. we'll have updates throughout the morning. >> the stock market has just opened for business and trading and facebook has begun, trying to decide if there will be news they will like as it reports profits this afternoon. for more insight on this let's check in with technology analyst rob enderly joining us in our

newsroom. good morning, rob. thanks for waking up with us. >> good morning. i'm not really awake. >> we'll get you some coffee. facebook is a young company we all know this, how big of a deal is this really in the long term? >> it's pretty big. in other words, we've had a number of disappointing returns come in as companies reported and facebook is one of the bellwethers of the internet. they did just form an industry association we're hoping will offset bad news but advertisers are nervous about the company. >> facebook says they have not figured out advertising on their mobile site. that's how they make money. what can they do? >> they have to talk about the solution, they have to acknowledge that they have got it and acknowledge it publicly to investors and talk about a plan what they are going to do about it. right now their biggest problem is conversion rate. they put up a lot of ads, not clear people see them. it's clear that a lot of people don't buy from them so.

whatever is ahead for facebook. facebook trading down right now. moving on, south bay police continuing their search for a suspect who stabbed a man near the corner of east st. john and second street. bob redell is live with an update on that investigation. >> reporter: that man was found on the sidewalk in front of the trinity church. this is the oldest church building in downtown san jose, not too long ago two of the friends of this man came back to the scene, they were hugging and consoling each other mourning the loss of their friend stabbed to death last night around 8:30. they wouldn't speak on camera but they just returned from the police station where they were speaking with police. it's not sure how helpful they were on leads. there has been no description and no arrest so far. police found out last night from

it rammed into a street and a house here in east palo alto. you can see the skid marks there this morning as we look on bell street and cooley. to give you a reference here, this would be about a block away from the ikea, about a block north. there you see some of the firefighters, very minor damage to this car at 2176 bell, or coolly avenue rather. it did run into a second house but again, minor damage there. some brick work. early reports that said there might have been a baby in a nursery right behind that window. thank goodness those turned out to be untrue. we don't know exactly what happened. this scadillac runs into the house. by the time the police get here there is nobody here and a car in a home. again, nobody hurt here on the corner of bell and cooley. i'll tell mike i don't think this is going to affect traffic. this is a residential area.

olympic village. you see that's the olympic stadium there where the opening ceremony will be. the athletes' village is here and here is a major shopping center t west field mall, the same brand we have back in the bay area. they have a huge mall here, it's the largest mall in all of europe. just a short while ago the mall was evacuated for a brief time. the police are not telling us why they evacuated the mall. not a good way to start with a major security scare near olympic park. we're talking about our local olympians, kerri walsh from saratoga, you know her story. we've been around the world with her from athens to beijing and now in london, back-to-back gold medals in terms of beach volleyball. she has two boys. she sat down with kerri. she is excited but of course a concerned mom. she is worried about bed time

was the ceo, he commanded and headed the salt lake city games back in 2002. we talk about the torch relay, a great symbol of the olympics an it's making its way through the historic streets of london as we speak. it's great to see that torch. it has been on the run, on a helicopter, on the streets for the last several weeks, even three people from the bay area had the honor to carry that olympic torch. it's winding through the streets of london and will end up here at the olympic stadium. so a lot going on, most very positive. one security scare. to dampen the mood it seems impossible. we've been here for the last few days now and it's so excitable. everyone is waiting and home is the big day. we know that will and kate arrived today. is this right?

their friend. they tell us they had just returned from the police station where they had again peeking with police. no arrests so far and no description has been put out. police found out about this around 8:40 last night. people reported this man dying face down in front of the church think be maybe he was hit by a car but they realized that was not the case. he had been stabbed at least once in the chest. the man in his early 30s later died at the hospital. police do not believe this was a robbery. here in san jose, bob redell, knob. >> thieves are busy in one bay area city. robberies at the same atm and car burglaries across the street, all of that has police busy. >> live at the scene with more on this. good morning.
