looking forecast for today bay side and the coast. another hot day inland. this morning, temperatures are rather uniform from san jose to san francisco, holding on to the 50s headed to the 90s. today we'll peak in terms of warmth and cool off. 4:31. first, let's see how the roads are shaping up. >> folks are shaping those roads, the road crews, that's the only big thing through oakland. no major issues. a tad bit of slowing. in yellow that is at 60 miles per hour from fruitvale to fifth construction on the northbound side. a live look why it's not a problem, light volume of traffic. past the coliseum, no slowing in either direction. across the bay our view of the san mateo bridge as you get off to the foster city side. not much over the bay right now. a smooth flow. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >> yes, more good news from london. those medals are adding up for

team usa thanks in part to wins from our bay area. >> one a gold medal for swimmer nathan adrian, he won the 100 meter freestyle. >> reporter: did see the race? nathan adrian wins by this much, likely the closest race in a sport we see. we show you this fantastic finish. nathan adrian beats out the australian swimming star just barely. he outtouches him at the very end. here is that fantastic finish. for nathan it's his third career olympic medal. this one certainly the best. the gold in the 100 free, and even he couldn't believe it when the race ended. >> don't know if you can see it but i looked up and glanced and thought i saw a 1 next to my name, then i was like wait, did i really win? then i kind of double-checked.

lo and behold there was a one. >> the soft spoken says he wants to be a doctor but let's put med school on hold. the other story, we'll go back to the pool, synchronized diving. christian inson went to stanford and he wins a bronze along with his partner they are thrilled. now the thrill for christian, not just winning a bronze but going home and working in his family pizza restaurant. they have a few in the east bay. maybe they are going to have a new recipe. >> could there be a special pizza in the offing for this, to celebrate this? >> that's a good question. i need to talk to my dad. you can ask him. maybe. that would be amazing if there was like an olympic sort of pizza. maybe that would bring in new custom customers. >> reporter: a new pizza. they said yes, the phones have been ringing off the hook. that's the latest from london.

>> reporter: good morning. it's another warm one out here and shadow cliff lake is open but what happens is they do weekly testing of the water out here and they found that this time it does not meet state standards, that's because of high bacteria counts. so swimmers are advised not to swallow the water. probably easier said than done. after you swim they advise that you shower and dry off completely. the east bay park says water testing done on july 23 found high level of bacteria that could cause illness if swallowed. a spokesperson for the park says when it's hot it's not unusual to have high bacteria readings, even so, it wasn't enough to trigger a complete closure. reporting live, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> police this morning looking for the people responsible for a double shooting last night. this all happened at the intersection of warm springs

drive and minidoka avenue. two men believed in their teens were shot around 8:30 last night. their injuries, good news, not considered life threatening. no arrests have been made. >> new details on the colorado theater shooting suspect james holmes. the report says six weeks before the massacre the psychotherapist holmes was seeing at the university was apparently so alarmed by his behavior she notified a campus threat assessment team. but no further action was taken. holmes is accused of killing 12 people, injuring 58 others at a theater in aurora on july 20th. the university is not commenting citing privacy laws. >> san francisco's police chief continues to appeal the right to arm his officers with stun guns. he believes a recent deadly shooting involving one of his officers could have been avoided

if they had tasers. police shot and killed a man after he stabbed a co-worker and turned on an officer with a box cutter. the chief talked about acquiring stun guns during last night's meeting, but others lined up against the idea. >> to express my deep disappointment that the police are exploiting his death for a political purpose to try to get tasers. >> i'd just like to save a life or two. >> sur is the fourth san francisco chief to ask the commission to green light stun guns. >> i want to switch gear, get a look at the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. it is thursday, so close to the weekend now. and temperatures are going to be comfortable. thanks for waking up with us. 56 in oakland, 58 in concord. in sunnyvale 56 degrees there. throughout the afternoon it will start to separate. we'll see quite a difference.

if you're looking for cooler conditions hit the beach because temperatures will be close to about the century mark in most of the inland cities and the perimeter cities. so i'll take you through the forecast coming up. let's find out if the fog is impacting your drive. >> so far speeds are okay but i'll take you along the water. a giants game, that will cause congestion and also road work off of the bay bridge toward 101 in san francisco. looking at the bay bridge, a smooth drive on the oakland side, easy flow down the freeway, fog will play a factor later on for some of these drivers, that fog is going to hit pretty hard. out to another live shot for fremont the east bay. a smooth flow. 880 under the mission boulevard overcrossing. 680 a nice flow as well. the south bay, under 680 as

well, we're below 680, a smooth drive for 101 with the headlights. back to you. >> thank you. 4:38. bay area job market taking top honors for growth thanks to the surging tech industry. >> santa clara county's job market the strongest in the nation according to the labor department. from june 2011 to june 2012 the south bay posting a 3.8% increase in jobs. the next strongest areas were the san francisco, san mateo/marin area with a 3.6% rise. the houston sugarland area a 3.3% increase. >> up next, facebook investors are not happy about their share prices. they aren't the only ones losing money. why the stock prices could end up costing every taxpayer in the state. >> an olympic apology.

>> welcome back everybody on a thursday morning. how about that. a nice shot there live over san francisco. the sun still waiting to come up. christina loren tells us it's going to be the warmest day of the week. it's 4:43. >> facebook stock continues toed slide. it could cost you even if you didn't invest in the company. the state of california predicted facebook stock could be worth $35 to $45 a share by november. they predicted that and based on estimates but the stock closed yesterday under $21 a share. if those numbers don't pick up the state winds up with a bigger hole than what lawmakers had banked on. >> the right way to do it is not anticipate funds until you see the money.

we can walk around and say gee, i'd like to make x amount of dollars, i'm going to assume i am. that doesn't go very far. >> tech analysts say facebook would have to make drastic changes such as hiring more talent. >> the fed decision to step up and do nothing about the stagnant economy now weighing on markets. for that and the rest of the news before the bell let's turn it over to jackie deangelis. good morning. >> good morning, jon. good news to report, futures are higher after stocks closed in the red on wednesday following that fed decision. as expected the fed didn't take new action to boost the economy but did promise to step in the conditions don't improve. investors turn to the european central bank. last week ecp president gave the markets a jolt when he said he would do whatever necessary to protect the euro and its member countries. the european market is slightly

higher. we'll get data on unemployment and factory orders in the u.s. and we saw the dow close yesterday 37 points lower to 12,071. the nasdaq falling 19 to 2920. retailers report july sales today, total sales forecast to rise about 1.4%, that's driven mostly by discounts to clear out spring and summer merchandise. july could also provide an early ready on the back to school season t the second biggest shopping season after the christmas holidays. toyota is recalling 780,000 rav4 suv and lexus 250 sedans. the recall affects the 2006-2011 model on the rav4, and the 2010 model on the lexus. toyota received reports of nine crashes and three minor injuries. >> jackie, thank you. we'll check back in with you. >> right over to christina loren who has a look at our forecast. >> good morning to you. you know, we're still in the

heart of the summer. it's going to feel like summertime across the bay area. if you wanted to get your beach on you can go ahead and do so. make sure you apply that spf. our days of sunshine are numbered. fall is around the corner indicated by all of the back-to-school shopping. you want to work on your tan safely, the spf, get it done early. change is on the way next week. today we'll peak, 58 to start in san jose headed to about 85 degrees in the heat of the day. yesterday we hit about 83. a touch warmer. tomorrow we cool you off. not as hot for friday. sunshine remains, then this weekend we're going to get quite a bit of cloud cover each morning. comfortable afternoons, more than it has been. high pressure is still in control. we've got this area of low pressure just to our north. this is going to start to impact us as we head through saturday and sunday, dropping our

for a cheating scandal. >> appearing on chinese television yesterday. they were disqualified for trying to lose their matches to get a better seed in the tournament. one of the chinese players announcing she is leaving the sport for good. after that disappointing finish in team finals on monday the men's gymnastics team, team member danell leyva comes back, jumping from 17th place to grab that bronze. >> feeling very excited, very happy about the results. i didn't really have the exact routine i wanted. but it gave me motivation to have fun and enjoy the olympic experience. >> he was awesome in that finish. the gold went to japan, the favorite coming into the competition. he walked off with it. marcel nguyen takes home the

silver. leyva was able to brush off the nerves and take home the bronze. >> today the u.s. has another shot at gold in the women's gymnastics all around final. coming off a huge victory in the team competition tuesday night. winning the gold with a 5-point lead over russia. >> just need to control the serves and fix up my beam and floor. if i do that then there's also come back. >> a face off. ryan lochte and michael phelps will race for the gold in the 200 meter individual relay. you can catch that race along with women's gymnastics. also watch for cal swimmer jessica hardy in the finals of the 100 meter freestyle.

and anthony ervin for the freestyle semifinals. >> safe to say must see tv. mitt romney's wife is going for the gold at today's olympic games. >> she's not competing but the horse she owns is, rafalca will compete in the dressage competition. it's horse ballet. dressage is when riders with top hats ride their horses through a series of precise maneuvers. we're told ann romney will be cheering from the stands. mitt romney will not be there, he is campaigning in colorado. a little bit. it's unclear if he is going to backtrack on his claim he will not be tuning in to watch on tv. >> still ahead, it's not exactly the road trip he planned. how a driver, look at this, landed his rv right in a

we'll check the forecast coming up. 4:53. >> right now a little lesson how it new park an r.v., from brockton, massachusetts, what is going on a 30-foot motor home ends up taking a nose dive in a pool. the driver, i guess he was backing out when he says his foot got stuck on the accelerator. the rv careened into the neighbor's pool. the neighbor came out and like what happened? actually came to the rescue, pulled him from the water. as you might guess this wasn't easy to get out. a crane and several wreckers took four hours. we report the pool and vehicle suffered some damage but we're happy to report the driver is going to be okay. mike said earlier, free car wash. how about this, teetering on the edge in new york city. this massive sinkhole opened up

wednesday in the brooklyn neighborhood. a close call for one family who just parked their car before it was partly swallowed. a broken sewer pipe is to blame for creating the hole. crews say this swoon going to take all week long to close it up. >> imagine calling the insurance company. you're never going to believe this. >> let's check with mike. >> 15 by 20, that sinkhole is bigger than those amounts we talked about in san francisco a while back. looking over to the south bay where traffic is flowing nicely. road work to prevent problems, northbound 85 we have construction between cupertino and mountain view for the northbound direction. southbound is clear. the connector off of 280 to 85 also has that connecter closed.
