another golden day for team usa. with victories on the field and in that water. >> another magical night. the women's soccer team and women's water polo taking home the gold with help from some of the local athletes. raj mathai catching up with them after those victorious evenings. >> reporter: good friday morning to you. can you believe it, it's almost over here in london. we're going to be packing our bags and coming back to the bay area. coming home with us a lot of olympians with a lot of gold. we start in water polo. the stephans family from danville dominating the pool. maggie stephans and jessica, how about this, jessica with the assist, maggie with the goal. maggie scored five times as team usa beat the spaniards 8-5 the final. their first gold medal in olympics history. you see the celebration in the pool. they love it. >> nothing can explain it. i watched water polo in the olympics ever since i was little and it's been my dream.

breaking news out of afghanistan where an afghan commander and several of his men killed three u.s. soldiers. we're told the men turned their guns on the americans after inviting them to a dinner to discuss security. nato says the attack appeared planned and carried out by rogue afghan forces, this makes the third attack by afghan soldiers training to take over security after u.s. forces leave in 2014. >> we can tell you one of the biggest most anticipated music festivals kicks off today. we're talking about the outside lands, it is sold out and will offer 60s pop to rock. christie smith is live at golden gate park where all of the music is coming in. >> standing in front of what i would like to be my entrance. i do not have tickets but we're talking three major head liners, 100 performers, 65,000 people a

smith, "today in the bay." >> 4:36. an oakland family is mourning a double tragedy a. 15-year-old aspiring firefighter was killed, now his 16-year-old cousin's life is cut short. tatiana turn er, was out with friends when someone opened fire on a crowd, also injuring a 23-year-old man. turner's family is devastated. >> she had dreams to go to college, to raise her daughter, you know, but somebody decided to take her life. at 16. she didn't deserve it. >> turner leaves a baby daughter. her cousin was shot to death a month ago. the 15-year-old just landed an internship with the oakland fire department. the team that investigated the bp gulf spill is -- they will

inspect a unit in the blaze. they first need to figure out if it is safe to enter, then determine when production might resume. in all five investigations will be done. because of the fire analysts say gas prices could reach at least $4 a gallon this weekend. >> how about an unusual disguise for a stockton bank robber. there are pictures here from bank of the west where a man walks in dressed as a woman yesterday afternoon and then he held the place up. a teller ended up giving him cash after he handed her a note demanding the money. witnesses, well, they lost him when he walked into a mental health clinic across the street from the bank. >> 4:38. let's check that forecast with christina loren. we keep saying how hot it's going to be. >> the talk of the town. good morning to you. temperatures yesterday just soared. look at some of the highlights of yesterday. i'm talking about high temperatures. near record heat. we did not break records but

we're still on par to do the same today. so 104 in brentwood yesterday. it was so hot out there. gilroy hit 103. 102 livermore. and walnut creek and san ramon hit the triple digits, 102 degrees. so as you head throughout the afternoon it's going to be another scorcher. it's really a tricky forecast because we're getting a little more onshore flow that means your coastal cities by the water will be a touch cooler, however, that marine influence will not reach the east bay. we're starting out so mild i'm not going to be surprised if your temperatures exceed the highs that we saw yesterday. so, at noon today, 87 degrees in livermore, you round out the day at 103. so this is the kind of heat you do not mess around with. if you work outdoors, if you'll be outdoors for sporting events you want to stay hydrated. we'll keep talking about that all day. it's a spare the air day as well. 4:39. >> we'll go to the south bay where we have your construction

10 points thursday to close at 13,155, the nasdaq edging up 7, to 3018. as you mentioned apple store employees are reportedly being told to offer discounts on the iphone 4 and 4s matching price cuts by others but to get the discount you have to specifically ask for it. and cite the lower price of competitors. the news was reported by the blog. apple isn't publicly advertising the discounts. it's speculated it's in advance of apple unveiling the new iphone 5 expected out next month. early look at headlines, back to you. >> thank you very much, hampton. >> 4:46. we can tell you a new wild fire is burning in southern california. the chihuahua fire burned 900 acres caused by lightning strikes. no mandatory evacuation orders have been issued a reverse 911

alert has gone out telling residents to prepare to evacuate. authorities believe it may take several days to contain the fire. >> got to flex that power, maybe use the appliances later. it's going to be hot. >> it is going to be hot. you need that air conditioner in places in the east bay where it's a spare the air day, if you suffer from asthma, you want to limit your outdoor activity so yes, it is safer for your health to be inside with that ac on later this evening, however, we can flex our power. there are ways to stay cool. close the blinds before you leave and then once that sun starts to set after 8:00 tonight, you open up your windows in your home and get a nice breeze. the air quality will be at its worst bat 5:00 p.m. during the evening commute. temperatures today are going to be even hotter in some cities than yesterday. also our south bay air quality is a little bit worse off than this time yesterday morning as well. you want to keep that in mind.

we'll get more of an on shore flow for sunday. that means we'll probably get more moderate air quality. 56 in san francisco to start you out. san jose, 62 degrees, 62 to start means hitting the triple digits in the warmest cities across the bay. high pressure has strengthened, it's moved closer to the bay area. and this is the kind of heat you do not want to mess around with. this heat wave came on strong, came on quickly and 103 degrees again. livermore is dangerous. the hottest time of the day between 4:00 and 5:00 when you really want to start drinking that water. on the flip side, fantastic coastal conditions. those giants, they're coming home to some very comfortable readings. taking on the rockies, 7:15. clear conditions, you want to switch over between the olympics, get some world class giants action as well, you can do so. it's our sister station. 100 on sunday. 96 on monday. a little break from the heat

plenty of action at the olympic stadium today including some bay area track stars. >> that is right. we're talking about jenna competing in the 400 meter relay. she made headlines when she tied with allyson felix for final spot in the 100 meter dash. she conceded that spot but she will now today chase that dream for the olympics. >> also today, san francisco's shannon rowbury competes in the women's 1500. she has been training physically and mentally, bringing her sport psychologist with her to london. you can catch those races tonig tonight. our coverage starts tonight at 8:00 right after olympic zone. >> if you've been staying up late to watch the olympic action, chances are, somebody stopped me to tell me how tired i was. thank you very much. if you are feeling maybe a

little more tired than usual, though. >> according to sleep experts a lot of people suffer from sleep deprivation. either from getting up early to watch the live events or stay up late to watch the highlights. experts say that can lead to irritab irritableability. >> if you are not feeling too tired you might be feeling more motivated to hit the gym. a survey of club members of 24 hour fitness gym finds 89% are motivated by the olympic games, they say watching the athletes do their thing gives them that fitness routine a boost, encourages them to live the healthier lifestyles. they'd like to see more of how the athletes warm up and practice for the competition. >> i would too. hey mike, what sport are you taking up? >> maybe archery because you can just stand there and do it. but i'm not sure.
