province. the men turned their guns on the americans inviting them to a n dinner to discuss security. >> happening now, police at the scene of a stabbing in east san jose, a man found suffering from serious wounds there, this is near the intersection of mcglauf lin and ingmar court. mclaughlin is shut down by the police activity. so far police not saying too much but we will keep you posted and monitor the situation. >> new this morning 49ers and santa clara county agreed to share millions in redevelopment money. that agreement settles a lawsuit between the team and the county. back in june the county seized

the money ear marked for the stadium. >> there is a warning from police in the south bay, be on the lookout for stolen apple products on line. police say thieves broke into frye's after midnight yesterday morning and they stole $163,000 of ipads, iphones and ipods. police think they will end up on sites like ebay. >> 6:06. they investigated the bp oil spill, now the same team is in richmond trying to get to the bottom of the refinery fire. the board will inspect the unit working along side chevron and the state to figure out if it's safe to enter and when

always worry heading across the water. a live look outside. how things are for san jose. the 101 direction, southbound light with the taillights. again around this interchange, back to you. >> thank you. on to a big story unfolding, the operators of a california charity for veterans facing a lawsuit. the state accusing the operators of diverting donations to finance their stiflisle. marla tellez is in the newsroom with a lawsuit asking for millions in men ats. >> this called help hospitalize veterans based in southern california. according to the sight it's primary mission is to provide hospitalized and home bound veterans with therapeutic arts and crafts activities. according to the attorney general's office the group is also helping its present and board by squandering millions so the ag office is suing.

a watchdog group says only 35% of the group's funds go toward programs designed to help veterans. the industry standard is 65%. the complaint says this man here, president michael lynch, overpays himself spending thousands on perks including $80,000 in golf memberships. the former president here, robert chapen is named for his salary and a $2 million pension plan. the state is calling for the current leadership to be ousted. it wants at least $4.3 million returned to the charity. >> we'll let you know where you should take your resume. >> going to hire you on the spot. what's different about this year's outside lands festival?

>> time for a quick check of the day's top stories. the u.s. military says three soldiers have been killed by a man in an afghan uniform. military officials say it happened after a joint dinner and security meeting. the military says the attacker was an insurgent disguised as either a police officer or an afghan soldier. this is the third attack on u.s. forces this week. >> the state attorneys general office filing a lawsuit against a charity group for veterans accusing the group of misusing funds. the suit claims board members received lavish pangs plan and golf memberships. the state wants the leadership ousted. >> the team that investigated

the bp oil spill in the gulf is now looking into the chevron refinery fire in richmond. the u.s. chemical safety board is inspecting the unit where monday's fire happened. the team will determine whether it's safe to enter and when it's safe to resume production. >> one of the bay area's biggest music events kicks off today f. you don't have a ticket, you are out of luck. christie smith is live at golden gate park where music fans are excited but the neighbors not so much. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. happy friday. this year's outside lands is completely sold out in advance, they expect 65,000 people a day to come here between today and sunday. they have an amazing lineup of musicians. i was checking one of the online blogs about insider tips, folks who have been here and the number one tip seems obvious is do not drive. we had a hard time getting in. they have fences around golden gate park.

for neighbors, though, not always feeling the joy. we have video from last year. this benefits parks and recs in the city. i was checking out the blog, some of the complaints, the traffic, the packed buses that blow by because there are so many people on them. one man wrote that it took him 2 1/2 hours to get home and he lives in san francisco. i checked the outside lands website and they have a number of tips, a complaint hotline set up. suggestions for getting around and they say they have got two dedicated truck. amazing lineup. if you were lucky enough to score a ticket more than 100 artists, six stages, beer lands, they have food and drink and comedy. six stages, big names, stevie wonder, norah downs to name a few. i was reading the guide suggesting that biking is actually a good option. for today alone, they have fitz

that's a new record for a women's soccer match in the uk, it was phenomenal. team usa, 2-1 over japan. alex morgan with an assist. she has been having a great tournament. the americans amentioned their loss. they beat the cap knees team 2-1 for the gold in soccer. we were joined by one of the stars, rachel buehler, the former stanford student. >> incredible night, playing in front of 80,000 people, it was like a dream come true. it was unbelievable. >> you've done this, you won gold in beijing and in london. show us and tell me what's going through your mind and why is this one difference? >> earning a gold medal is such an honor. to be able to represent your country at this level. something to dream about as a kid. there is a lot of pride. we're such a close team.

paid the client would get very rich. the problem is you need someone to take the bet on the other side. they are accused of convincing more clients to take that side of the bet, like giving a race horse sleeping pills, then betting against him. you still have to find some suckers. in its decision the justice department said prosecuting over this was quote not viable. a separate senate investigation into the matter ended with senators concluding much the opposite. >> shares in yeah who are fell after the ceo there said the company may not give its shareholders billions of dollars made when it sells its assets in china. they wonder what the new ceo plans to do with the money instead. certainly buying a big company is a possibility because we're talking billions that won't go

silicon valley. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. look around and you'll see projects like this one behind me going up. when the epic apartments, that's what they are called, are complete, they add another roughly 800 units to the area supply of housing. according to analysis by the "mercury news" developers tib south bay are building new apartment complexes at a record pace. san jose, 7,000 new units are on the way, 4,000 of which will be completed by this year, that's a 20% increase in the supply of luxury apartments. more than 2,000 units are headed for milpitas, that will double the supply. 1700 in mountain view, a 30% increase. there is a lot of demand for new apartments for two reasons. one, more people are renting because it's more difficult to buy a home. and two, the surge in hiring. silicon valley added more than

30,000 jobs over the past 12 months. the east bay expected to add more than 1,000 apartment units over the next couple of years. not as robust but that region hasn't seen as much growth. new this morning u.s. regulators tell five of america's biggest banks they are on their own, no more bailouts even if the economy turns sour again. scott mcgrew says we've heard this before. >> we have, just before they bailed everybody out. this time the government means it according to secret negotiations uncovered by reuters. the news agency says the u.s. government has told five banks they need to be ready to defend themselves next time. and they have to have a plan in place in case we go through another credit crisis. the retail banks which have been marned jpmorgan chase, bank of america and goldman sachs,

morgan stanley got the same warning as well. the banks were lent money in the first bank bailout and each bank paid the money back to the. go in fact, the government made money on the deal but this morning saying never again. >> interesting. thank you. 6:33. it's also the height of the summer travel season. that means millions of passengers in and out of bay area airports. while passenger numbers are on the rise so are the number of thefts. what is happening and many times it's right before your eyes. >> we requested crime data and a decade of data from the tsa on missing items. what we found may have you keeping a closer eye on your bags. >> london and sfo, nothing came out. >> after a long plane ride from

london becky drew arrived at san francisco international airport without her luggage. she's like thousands of other travelers of bay area airports who had bags and items in that luggage disappear in the last half decade. we looked at five years of crime data from law enforcement at the three major airports and the most reported crime here is theft. >> the biggest challenge is access. >> sfo tells us with 1500 cameras scattered throughout the airport they are on the lookout for suspects. >> in most cases it's a passenger or someone who had lawful business for being here. and put it this way. a lot of times it's a crime of opportunity. >> if you are going anywhere don't leave things in plain sight in your car, lock your car. >> randy cook says you are actually safer at an airport than on most city streets. >> you have law enforcement there, and large numbers, you

busy out there tracking all of the bay area olympians competing. raj, bay area women no doubt helping team usa, huge in soccer and water polo. and now they have the gold. >> reporter: it's been fun. we had an active morning, a lot of bay area olympians flashing their gold medals enjoying it. now the final 48 hours here so people really starting to get that excitement back in the sense that looking toward the closing ceremony. first things first, not just a party in london but back at home in lafayette. the viewing party at the cheese pizza, a full house. everyone there to cheer on the steffen sisters, jessica and maggie, team usa water polo, and their good cheers were heard all the way here in london. the pool here was all about team usa. the americans defeat spain 8-5 to win the gold medal. would you believe maggie steffens, 19, scored five of the eight goals.
