temperatures cooling off behind that cold front that caused all the storms yesterday. behind that cold front we're going to see that cooler air from canada drop in. highs only from the mid 70s for minneapolis and chicago. storm seg farther to the south here into the southeast, chance for showers and storms some of the big cities friday into saturday, that will be that chance for some storms and lingering showers on saturday. and then we're going to see these temperatures cool off even into the northeast. daytime highs into the mid 70s. we're going to see readings into the low 80s in louisville and kansas city and the southeast, mid to upper 80s, when it could easily be well into the 90s in some of these spots. we're going to see a chance for some showers and thunderstorms with a front that's just sort of hanging around here in the gulf coast states, and we're going to continue to clear out throughout parts of the northeast. it's going to be still relatively cool throughout much of the midwest. we just don't have that rain that is so desperately needed right here in the middle part of

and we are cooking with our pal curtis, chef curtis stone, that is, who's here to help bring in kathie lee's birthday. >> i hear you're about to make some of my favorite dishes. >> i sure am. >> crab cakes and bonafi pie. oh, my goodness, it's good to be the birthday girl. >> i'm going to start off with the mango chutney that goes with the crab cakes. you caramelize the sugar. so you just throw the sugar into a dry pan and let it turn brown like that. turn into a liquid and then it turns brown. then you throw in your mango which i've just diced up. a little bit of vinegar. and a little bit of lemon juice. okay? and you just let that -- it will sort of crystallize and it will come back together. >> you just leave that on the flame? >> leave that. >> now we're making the crab cakes. >> crab cakes. so i've got a beautiful sauvignon blanc from new zealand, down in my neck of the woods. >> all right. i'll be gracious. go ahead. i mean it was a chardonnay. chablis.

>> yeah, exactly. >> you can't have everything on your birthday, kathie lee. >> i've got a case of maso canale downstairs. >> i've got some skal kronz. all your favorite ingredients. ginger, lime zest, cilantro, chili pepper. a little bit of fish sauce and a tiny bit of sesame oil. an egg. all this stuff goes in together. you throw it all in. mix it up with a bit of mayonnaise. and then you throw in the panko bread crumbs, which is what makes it super, super crispy. >> people are using those more and more, aren't they? >> they're the japanese style bread crumbs and they're really dry. they go super crispy. so when you're doing something like a crab cake and you want that crunch -- >> keeps it all together, too, so nicely. >> then you get this stuff. and you turn it into like a little ball or you throw it into a cutter if you've got one of those and you can push it down. and you make your crab cakes like that. you take your crab cakes, pop them into a hot pan with a
