some of the clouds lingering and we are seeing few breaks in the clouds. nonetheless, a few showers as well. it will be a hit and miss rain. not everybody will get rain today. you can see on the peninsula, this morning, a stray shower rolled through san francisco and that's not it. in fact, even san jose, we'd few sprinkles south near evergreen, so, yeah the rain is out there, all because of a big upper level low spinning across the pacific. this thing is on the move. so, today as it moves out, pick out a few more showers and thunderstorms but temperatures not too bad, in the 50s and 60s, 62, sunnyvale and san jose. if you live inland, north bay, east bay and south bay, expect 80s. closer to the water, 70s, san francisco, 69 degrees. overall, not a bad forecast. keep a plan b handy, garvin, in case you get caught with the downpours overhead. >> throw them in the car if you are heading out. thank you very much. new this morning, more than 1,000 people expected to attend the funeral for a bay area soldier recently killed in

action. u.s. marine captain matt minnekeon died last week during a mission in afghanistan. insurgents disguiseded a afghan police shot and killed him and two others at a security checkpoint. the 29-year-old was the son of a santa clara judge and state appellate justice h the memorial will be held at st. francis high school, mound rain is view. it begins at 3:00 this morning. we are also following a developing story this morning, the raiders preseason getting off to a troubling start a 30-year-old man shot in the face during the raiders/cardinals game t happened in the parking lot the city of glendale. police say two men got into a fighted and then gunfire erupted. the victim was rushed to the hospital. he is expected to survive. police arrested the suspect. the gunman says his gun went off accidentally. at this time, no word if the vict victim was a raiders or cardinals fan. a manhunt here in the bay

area, redwood city police are looking for a 34-year-old sex offender after he escaped from a mental facility. he is considered high risk. if you see him, you are asked to call 911 george care yamma spoke with neighbors on alert this morning. >> reporter: just a block away from the mental health facility is this quiet neighborhood of families, many with children. >> i didn't realize they still housed high-risk offenders over there. making sure our doors and windows were locked. >> reporter: nicole lynch is keeping her doors and windows locked because of this man, 34-year-old derek sanders. detectives are looking for him after he escaped friday morning. >> he found a way out. decided he didn't want to be there left the facility, walked down to a spot that is still to be determined. >> reporter: sanders is considered a high-risk offender with mental i issues. the san mateo county district attorney's office says sanders is a parolee with a history of violence, weapons and sex offense he is. >> the sheriff's office is taking it seriously, didn't assign just one deputy to go

northbound 680 in pleasanton before 12:30 this morning. the highway patrol says car ran into a ditch offside bernal avenue on the on-ramp near the alameda county fairgrounds. they are trying to figure out what led up to the crash. we are learning more about a suspicious device that shutdown a palo alto neighborhood for five hours. it was described as soda bought well a gauzy material with clamps around it. it was found on maple wood avenue in south palo alto yesterday afternoon. after examining the bottle, the santa chara bomb squad destroyed for safety reasons and examined it it was not an explosive, but something used to make illegal drugs. today when the weekly saturday search resumes for missing teenager sierra lamar, a member of congress will join the volunteers, giving the search a higher profile. jerry mcnerney's district includes parts of morgan hill, where the teenager lived. she disappeared march 16th on

stick around, anthony slaughter has the forecast coming up in just a few minutes. i will just say this, it is not your typical august forecast. so you will want to catch that. syrians continue to stream across the border to turkey as fighting rages in a number of cities. amateur videos posted on the internet reportedly show a strong military force in the city of ham ma. there are tanks, trucks full of soldiers and surface-to-air weapons, shelling of rebel-held parts of the cities hit in provinces close to the turkish border. mean time, the last united nations observers are leaving syria. their failed mission expires tomorrow. they were sent to the country to try to reduce the violence there. in pakistan, more violence. five security troops were killed at a checkpoint by a suicide car bomber. this comes after another attack yesterday. a suicide bomber carried out a deadly bus bombing. the bus was carrying shiite muslim studentsle. one person died, another was

how did a street performer in san francisco end one steve jobs' personal i mad? we are learning it wasn't magic. kenneth can, known as kenny the clown, says he got it from a friend and used it to play songs while he performed at pier 39 that friend is 35-year-old kareem mcfarland. police arrested him earlier this month for breaking into the late apple co-founder's home in palo alto. he is accused of stealing a bunch of apple products from jobs' home as well as tiffany jewelry and jobs' wallet. as for kenny the clown, he says he had no idea the ipad belonged to jobs or was even stolen until police showed up a had the his door. many of us are increasingly attached to our smartphones so when they get stolen it san increasingly bigger inconvenience. but now a silicon valley startup has a way to find your phone and

the person who took it. a mobile security startup called trust go has a kind of candid camera software that snaps a photo of the thief as he or she tries to use your phone. >> the thief tries to unlock it using a password, get it wrong three times, the e-mail is general wratd their pit generated with the picture and their location. >> the sound is muted when that e-mail is sent so the thief doesn't know the picture was taken. they hope to have a version for the iphone soon. cyclists in sunnyvale have were new protection on the roads. they have a new legal tool against aggressive drivers. bob redell explains how it works. >> reporter: bicyclist anti-harassment ordinance that goes into affect in sunnyvale makes it a civil offense for a driver to menace a bicyclist. harassment can range from an actual assault to trying to run

a bicyclist off the road to making a threat. much of that is clearly already illegal in the criminal sense. by making a civil offense it makes it easier for a cyclist to take a driver to court n civil court, much easier to prove wrongdoing since the burden of proof there is lower than it is in criminal court. this new ordinance also gives the judge the discretion to triple the amount of damages awarded to the cyclist. >> i don't think it's a big issue. i've never been harassed myself by any drivers. i don't see it as a big problem. >> probably not necessary. i think most drivers are adapting to having bicyclists on the road. >> anything they can do a better job of raising consciousness and awareness of sharing our roads is important. >> reporter: sunnyvale is not the firstity? bay area to enact such an ordinance. berkeley enacted its own bicyclist anti-harassment ordinance this past february. and prior to them, it was los angeles. here in sunnyvale, bob redell,

welcome back to the program. 7:39 the time. anthony slaughter tells us if you haven't seen showers this morning, they are most likely clearing up that is good news. well, some good news and some bad news for bay area tech companies this morning. cnbc's tyler mathisen gives us a look at the business news headlines from this past week. >> stocks rose for the sixth week in a row this past week sparked by string of solid earnings reports. tech stocks rallied thanks to strong numbers at cisco systems. surprisingly so, really. other reporting gains are home depot, target and the gap. different story for shares at

facebook. those shares shrank to halves of the initial public offering. markets hit the nation malls last month. retail shares up a surprise .8. everything from cars to furniture, clothes, sporting goods seeing a bit of bump in sales. americans are carrying more debt on their credit card, an average of around $5,000 per borrower. but we are also paying off more of what we owe and we are doing it on time. london-based standard charter bank is going to have to pay $340 million in fines for scheming with iran to launder hundreds of billions of dollars through its new york offices over the past six years. they settled those charges. and the attorney general of new york and connecticut issued subpoenas to seven major banks, including citigroup, jpmorgan

slaughter. we are tracking potential for showers. you heard me correctly. odd this time of year. hey it happened this morning, in the north bay, seen showers, fairfield, even near sonoma and petaluma, now those showers have begun to dwindle but sometime do have a few that will pop up throughout the day. one shower making its way just east of san mateo across the bay. this is going to continue to make its way toward oak land. heads up throughout the day. keep the umbrella handy. on and off showers expected throughout the day. you can expect t more showers making their way through, all the way from the south, pulling into the north. so again, all the way from really about l.a. up toward san francisco. we are going to be looking the that chance for showers through the day. 55, santa rosa, 60, napa, 63, concord, up a degree from the last time we spoke, 63, sunnyvale as well. we mentioned you can see the showers again streaming in from the south, all because of this big area of low pressure this thing has been sitting across the pacific the past three days and finally starting to move out and because it is starting to move out, it has tapped into a little bit of that pacific

moisture around eventually going to collide with some cooler air aloft. basically, the collision of those two atmospheres, you get thunderstorms, expecting to see a few thunderstorms across the higher elevations, the east bay today and even across the north bay. again, this is going to be brief action. so, not going to be an all-day event and really, going to be very hit and miss. not everybody will see the rain today. you don't want to be one of the unfortunate ones without the umbrella. 82 sunnyvale. 80, san jose, a good mix of sun and clouds there off to the east bay, where the greater chance of showers and storms exist, 78 in the castro valley, 86, walnut creek. not bad, as far as temperatures go even very comfortable as far as san francisco, 68. wine country, close to 80 in many location, keyword here, umbrellas. you don't want to be caught with your wine with whining because it is raining. same tomorrow, cool and breezy in the coastal areas, if you live in san francisco long enough, what they say the

bicycle coalition. peninsula is celebrating man's best friend in a couple of hours from now. san matay yeast peninsula humane society will host the 18th annual mutt strut fund-raiser. hundreds of dog owners and their pets are expected to take part in the 3 k walk. organizers say the event will help raise money for shelter donations. mutt strut will take place at coyote point park in san mateo. you can drop by and register for the event beginning at 9:00 this morning. the 3 k walk starts at 11 a.m. the police department wants to help students in need and today, they are holding their annual stuff the cruiser event. organizeders are asking the local community donate school supplies. specially marked cruise letters be in front of livermore's walmart and office max location. on sunday, you can also drop off supplies at the cvs store. the event runs through sunday. san jose's gay pride celebration also rolls into town this weekend. it kicks off today at noon at discovery meadow at west san carlos street and was way. the day opens with a traditional as tech ceremony.

a woman in utah bought a vintage camera with some access source. what she didn't expect to find were undeveloped rolls of film. now shah she has the finished photos, she wants to return them to their rightful owners. courtney orton has this developing story. >> a set for $20 for this vintage kodak camera. >> reporter: 20 bucks for all this. and this woman got much more than a camera to add to her collection. >> i opened the bag and amidst all the other awesome things like a light meter, there was all these undeveloped slides and undeveloped film. >> reporter: slides and undeveloped film she couldn't help but think belonged to someone. >> i mean, somebody didn't get rid of these on purpose. i think it was an accident. >> reporter: when she looked closer. >> pretty good photographer, you can see a lot of them really well. >> reporter: she could see the

slides contained special family snapshots, snapshots we can actually see, since she had them developed. the images contained shots of a new baby, a couple, family members surrounding a man in uniform, and shots from a wedding. there's also one more clue. handwritten on the inside of the camera case. >> there is a name in the case, verle t. jacobs and the address. >> reporter: in hopes the address would lead us to the clues about the camera and contents belong to we came to the address but it brought us here, a construction site. there's another roll of color slide film inside the bag. >> can't develop it anywhere but one place in the whole united states, which is in colorado. >> reporter: but for now, she just hopes someone, anyone, will recognize something. getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the big show in town is always a thrill but for one group of children in san jose,

it was an encounter as well. a dozen children from the center of the blind and visionally impaired got a tour of the big white tent on highway 101. >> laura and kate and stephanie and tatiana are all riding big gray horses now. >> the show's performers took the kids into the practice ring and the stables to feel, hear and smell what the show is all about yesterday. they not only got to touch the horses but also listen to their heartbeat and their breathing through a stethoscope. the blind and visually impaired kids also learned about what goes into maintaining the horses from is horseshoing to feeding the animals to the special saddles the acrobats use to perform their tricks. this maybe the best interactive live streaming video ever, countries and cats in an animal shelter in los angeles. the shelter installed a system called i pet companion and a live camera and remote controlled toys that can be manipulated by users online.
